2022, Stage 3 Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 1

The quickly-cast Levitation Charm sailed past Piper as she jumped aside for dear life. She was not so lucky when it came to Prince's Ventus, which unexpectedly blew back against Piper, leaving her breathless. Once again, even though it was slowly knocking her out of consciousness, the second year was inspired by the advanced spellwork of the upper years. Another thing to be excited about for next year. If only the two Ravenclaws were in her house; maybe then she could work up the humility to ask them for lessons. Not that her own work was subpar -- she would never stand for that -- but broadening her scope of spells seemed useful in hindsight. The Slytherin shook her head and prepared once again, ignoring the words of the Ravenclaws. She had been wrong about the banter; her focus seemed better off when she wasn't wasting time on witty responses.

It didn't surprise her, but Piper resorted to dodging for the round. Phaedra's levitation charm shot past the second-year harmlessly—an anticlimatic end to what was her first time using the spell in a duelling environment. Dealla, however, was more successful. With a powerful Ventus, she both pushed the cloud away and Piper a bit off her feet. “Nice one.” Phaedra had to give her compliments where they were due.

The duel had become a lot more simple to follow along, up until the moment in which Piper began conjuring up a whole bunch of smoke, that enveloped pretty much everyone. The crackling thunder did not strike this round to her luck. However both Dee and Phae hit her, which caused Piper to be both disarmed and floating about a meter off the ground. Now this was just like a cat playing with its prey... it kinda reminded him of Tiger going on hunts and Tiger was pretty adorable, so who cared? This was a game after all.

"Thanks," Dee pitched back with an easy, self-satisfied grin. It was rare that spells felt that perfect, that powerful, but oh, when they did...

Phae's choice of spell had been a surprising one, as Dee knew for a fact that it was not the most effective choice in Phaedra's repertoire for the current situation, but perhaps there was a reason to that? They had wiped the floor with Henry quite efficiently, so she supposed they could take it easy for a while.

So going along with that, throwing out her well thought-out, merciless strategies, what should she do next? A thought sprang to her mind, and Dee grinned, mischief sparking in her eyes. Assuming Phaedra made another attempt at levitation, there was a way to very effectively render Piper harmless. It would limit the Ravenclaw's options, too, but with the advantage on their side, it didn't really matter. Certainly, it was kinder than pummeling Piper with spells.

"Expelliarmus!" Dee called, then squinted when the stage started filling with smoke before she could determine the success of her spell. She thought she could hear a clattering sound somewhere, a wand on the stage, perhaps?

Phaedra had indeed gone with the levitation charm again, and Dee squinted at the billowing smoke. It looked like there was an awkwardly floating humanoid shape in the haze. "You got her?" Dee asked for confirmation, already relaxing a little and twirling her wand around her fingers nimbly. "I think I managed to disarm her, so..." The rest was left unsaid, seemed obvious enough.

She straightened up, rolling her shoulders casually as if they were not on a stage in the middle of a duel, then pointed at Phaedra, jutting out her lower lip in a slight pout. "You have to teach me that spell splitting thing. Honestly. It's so cool, and I still don't really manage. Only the occasional split wind jinx."

Out of gut reaction, a fume of smoke blew out of Piper's wand, covering the entire piste. Although it blocked Prince and Stavrou's sight, it unhelpfully also blocked her own. Out of the thick smoke, Piper's prized wand flew out of her hand and before she could react, she was in the air. How did they hit her with so much precision? She floated awkwardly above the Ravenclaws, trying not to flail her arms, almost wishing she were unconscious. "Well played, I guess. So uh...how's it going?" she asked nonchalantly, crossing her arms and thinking of any possible way to get back on the ground.

Phaedra wasn't the only one to pull something unexpected. Perhaps inspired by some of that Ravenclaw creativity, Dealla rendered Piper defenseless by ripping her wand away. Such was a perfect time to reattempt the levitation charm, and though she had to squint through fog to locate a silhouette, the hit had landed with precision. “I did,” she nodded, gently swaying her wand to support Piper's weight.

When Dealla casually turned to speak, unthreatened by the entire situation, amusement dominated Phaedra's features. How unfortunate for Slytherin. In her opinion, there were few things worse than complete disregard, but they were merciful, at least. “Me?” Phaedra asked. It was not the first time she was requested to share the knowledge of spell spreading, but her lips had always remained sealed for those other than her house. “Well, I must warn you. I have very high expectations for my pupils.”

The fog was appearing to thin already, but it still formed a somewhat hefty cloak around Piper. They would just have to wait for it to fully clear. “But it's nothing you cannot handle. Ah, one second, captain.” In the meantime, Phaedra directed her voice overhead towards Piper. Perhaps she could even feel Phaedra attempting to rotate her laterally. ooc: Up to you. “We're fine. I'd ask about the view, but...”

The fifth year had not anticipated such a sudden change of pace and style of duelling. It was now more of a cat and mouse game and the cat was winning. Piper dangled in the air helplessly and was unable to do anything but wait for her cruel fate to end, Dee really had nothing better to do than be her sarcastic and somewhat bragging self, which was quite entertaining. The only one who effortlessly put any effort into this duel was Phaedra keeping up her enchantment. The cloud of thunder still crackled above Piper, but once more decided to do no harm.

Dee flashed a bright grin at Phaedra, more than a little pleased with herself and the situation in general, and not least with her older partner's assertion that Dealla could handle her tutelage. Which, duh. Of course she could. "I'll hold you to that," she promised cheerfully, spinning her wand in her hand, once, twice.

Piper's voice sounded surprisingly casual out of the smoke, and Dee turned towards it - or an approximation of her location, as her sight was still somewhat obscured. She agreed with Phaedra's assessment. "Can't complain," she chimed in. "How about you? Hanging in there?" Not one of her best jokes, but wonderfully appropriate.

Humming slightly, Dee turned around, glancing at their audience. "I'm getting a dry throat from all this chattering," she called casually. "Does anyone have some tea for us by any chance?"

Hand on her hip, Phaedra effortlessly maintained her Levitation Charm. This was leagues more enriching than a silly feather—though she imagined Piper at the other end of her walnut wand was not feeling similarly being disarmed and all. While Dealla turned to the audience to entertain them further, bad jokes aside, Phaedra hummed in agreement and locked her eyes on the Slytherin.

The fog was now fully cleared and would remain that way barring any surprises. It felt around half-way for the duel if she were to wager a guess, certainly doable in what she was attempting. Suddenly, Phaedra would call out to Piper beneath the clouds with her own strange mix of an apology and yet a brag. “It’s nothing personal, really. Just trying to set a personal record. I can see it in the books already—world’s longest levitation. I think it’d be rather neat.”

"So do you guys have any plans for after this duel? You don't seem to be in a rush", the Gryffindor commented as he watched the duel go on. There was still a storm cloud brewing above Piper, who once more found herself unable to do anything. Upon Dee's request, a house elf disappeared only to reappear in a matter of moments, a kitchen elf apparently with a tray of boiled water and a couple of tea cups. And of course English breakfast tea and Dee actually had the nerve to start brewing some tea! But who was he to judge if there was tea being brewed? After all there was really not much else going on in the duel this very moment. "May I have a cup?" he asked grinning. Tiger too must have realized that there was no longer any danger and had as such deemed the duel to be over, heading over to the pair of Ravenclaw to demand some attention. Alan at first considered to call the feline back but why bother? Phaedra still mastered the control over her spell and thus there was really no risk in letting the Tiger prowl a little.
