2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 6

Julian nodded his acknowledgement when Atlas said she'd try to take the blindfold off, and fell back to his spot, fingering his wand nervously as he wondered whether he should've offered to help her. He was still pondering this fact when he realised that the opposing team were getting ready to cast and he raised his wand instinctively to match them.

His spell failed, once more, to connect, but he didn't have much time to dwell on that as he realised that both the spells the opposing team had cast had met their target, and while Atlas was no longer blind, the blindfold had done its job and she was now on fire.

"Are you alright?"

Dmitri inwardly cringed as the next sequence of events played before his very eyes.

Julian must have pissed off some kind of deity of fortune or some other being responsible for his fate—he simply suffered the most. Though he was able to perform a standard feat of Extinguo, both Flipendos from Alec and Rose hit him squarely in the chest, knocking him airborne for a few seconds.

It would seem that the boy could still go on fighting—if the sign of movement from his end was any indication. However, in a strange twist of fate, the thundercloud above his head gave a sharp peal of thunder before striking the boy down in a flash before he can even get to his feet.

Atlas, wholly preoccupied with her own fiery affairs trying to douse herself out, could only stand and watch as her partner gave one last twitch before succumbing to unconsciousness.

"Medics! Assistance is needed over here." Dmitri would call, visibly cringing at this point. Like, who is this unlucky?

"With that being said, the show must go on." The older boy would then proceed to raise his hand before quickly bringing it down after the medical team was able to carry Julian away in a stretcher.

"Continue."

Alec was surprised when he noticed both Rose and him had been able to hit Julian. Not only that but the earlier weather spell came in handy. Julian was knocked out and officially finished with his part in the duel. Alec of course felt bad, but it wast as if he was going to throw a dueel for the sake of his conscience. Alec nodded toward Rose affirmingly before turning back to the duel. They could do this.

Rose and Alec both sent knockback jinxes towards Julian, and both of them hit. She winced a little bit. That had got to hurt. Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, the cloud she had summoned earlier struck him with lightning. As he fell to the floor, unconscious, Rose knew he wasn't going to be bouncing back from that. Dmitri stopped the duel and Julian was carried away.

Just one more.

It appeared as if what happened to her partner shocked Atlas Rey badly enough to freeze her in place. The audience would just be able to see her staring blankly at the spot upon which Julian Pritchard once stood.

However, it did not take too long for reality to come rushing back in—in the form of a Flipendo, courtesy of Rose Moon. What would have been a missed spell hit the motionless form of the Hufflepuff duelist, making her stumble a couple of inches back.

Alec Mason seemed to not be immune to the distraction Pritchard's elimination produced—instead of hitting where he intended, the boy's Blindfolding Spell homed in on his own ally, wrapping the poor girl in a tight blindfold just moments after she successfully hit her target.

In a room full of duelists in the heat of battle, there is no room for distractions. It seemed these... children still have yet to internalize that fact, Dmitri thought.

"Alright, continue."

Perhaps Alec hadn't been focusing as well as he should have. When casting the blindfolding spell his aim may have been slightly... okay... very off. Instead of hitting Atlas, the spell went an etirely different direction, and Rose was now blindfolded. Oops. Alec frowned, “sorry,” and took a deep breath. Whatever had just happened there could not happen again. He wouldn't let them lose a duel over his own mistakes.

Getting into a better standing position, he prepared himself for the action he would take next.

Rose sent a Knockback jinx towards their remaining Hufflepuff opponent, and it hit it's target. She smiled. It seemed like they were winning, which was a good feeling.

Rose pushed down the memory of the feeling of loosing. It was fine. The Hufflepuffs we're strong, they would persevere.

Then a blindfold wrapped itself around her eyes. "Hey-" she started, but didn't finish. She hadn't even seen the spell coming. Alec murmured an apology and she shook it off. "It's okay," she said.

Forfeits
For a bit, the duel seemed to proceed as it always has—slow and steady. Both Gryffindors clutched their wands tighter as they prepared to cast another volley of spells, while the lone Hufflepuff seemed to be frozen in place where she stood. Looking closely, she seemed to be looking directly at him—for askance or for help, he really does not know.

Nor did he care, to be honest.

There wasn't any Immobulus that Dmitri could remember being cast during this particular duel, so it definitely wasn't the reason why the girl was motionless.

However, it quickly became clear to the Slytherin where her attention lay.

Unbeknownst to him or the participants of the duel, the stormcloud that has been rumbling aggressively since the start of the game has slowly been folding upon itself, increasing in intensity as the students below continued to battle for the win.

Eyes plastered onto the mildly-interesting duel, neither he nor the audience took particular notice of the dark, eerie stormcloud—until it shifted itself directly overhead Dmitri.

The Slytherin only got a millisecond to react before a bright flash exploded overhead.

"P-Protego!" A beam of lightning struck the newly-formed shield, shattering it in an instant and bringing the boy to one knee.

"Fuck! What the hell was that?!" Dmitri could hear a few people in the stands clamoring to leave the vicinity. "Meteolojix Recanto!"

In an instant, the once aggressive stormcloud collapsed in on itself and disappeared with an audible sucking noise. At that, the Slytherin captain would turn a smoldering glare at the remaining duelists. "This is what you get when you let inexperienced children duel. I swear I don't get paid enough for this!" With a glance, Dmitri can confirm that the storm did startle the lone Hufflepuff enough to break her. She stood there, glassy-eyed and unresponsive.

"You know what, I am calling this duel off for everyone's safety." He said as he dusted himself off. "Through professional judgment, I am going to declare Gryffindor as the winner of this duel, with the audience as my witness." So help me Merlin.

Dmitri would grumble as he stormed off, cursing all the way.

If he was only a millisecond slower, he would have been the next one to be carried out on a stretcher. Fuck no. He still had his own duels to win.
