The "Good Enough" Compartment Closed

"I'll send him an owl then," June smiled. She laughed at McCarthy's confident reply. "Well then, we'll just have to be sorted the same way."

June's face flushed a bit. They had only been on the train for less than an hour, and June was already dozing off. It wasn't even noon yet. This is ridiculous, June thought, stifling another yawn. But however much she tried, she couldn't deny it. The soft, rhythmic rumbling of the train, the scenery whizzing by out the window, the excitement from her last days at home, all of it had caught up to her. She was in dire need of a nap.

"Really?" June smiled sheepishly. "Alright, if you're sure. Wake me up if you want someone to talk to, okay?" She took the manuscript that was on her lap and handed it to McCarthy. "For the rest of the train ride, if you need something to do." June lay on the plush bench, settling in. "I'm serious though, as soon as you're bored, wake me. Okay?" She smiled, closing her eyes. "I'll be upset at you if you don't..."

As she began to doze off, June was filled with a deep sense of contentment. Shawn McCarthy was officially the first friend (at least, she hoped they could be considered 'friends' now) she had made on her own. No pushing from parents, no external force shoving someone into her life. She had done it, and done it all by herself. Perhaps she had found the perfect compartment, after all.

Shawn smiled at Selwyn's insistence that Shawn wake her up if he was bored, if he was being quite honest. He had no plans of waking the girl up no matter how bored he got. She was clearly tired and he didn't plan on disturbing her if he didn't need to.

"Thanks, I'll be sure to read this right away." Shawn looked over the book in his hands slowly, scanning the pages quickly. As he looked up to ask Selwyn a question, she already began to fall asleep. Shawn smiled a bit to himself and decided to let her sleep, she most definitely needed however much sleep she could get right now. Shawn looked out the window one final time with another impressed face. He thought to himself for a bit, he had made his first friend at Hogwarts. June Selwyn seemed like a great person, and was quick to reply to Shawn's cockiness well, this impressed Shawn a lot more than he would admit. He was excited that she was his first friend, and to see where this would go.

As Shawn laid down resting his head against the wall he smiled to himself before opening up the book June had given to him, he hadn't read a book for pleasure in a long time, and was very excited to do so. He sighed contently before diving into the book, reminded on his new friend every time he turned the pages.
