Sharing letters with @Emily Flower
"No, not a fan of it at all or any sweets really. Unless you consider lemon drops sweet which I guess they sort of are," he said and opened his bag back up and pulled out a cellophane baggie that was pretty full at the moment. There was something about most sweet tasting things that was just very offputting to Simon and maybe that was the dhampir in him.
"I don't know," he said softly, thinking about getting help. Maybe it would be good to get help from someone he didn't know because then he really didn't have to feel bad if she judged him. "Guess we could give a try...." he glanced over to the side of the Owlery where there was a sort of workstation with a long table that served as a desk with many chairs, parchment, envelopes, ink wells full of ink, and quills.
"I'll warn you though that it's a bit complicated. I've seen him once in my life and we really didn't acknowledge, maybe even perhaps didn't know yet, who each other was. He came to my home last Summer looking for my mother but she passed away many, many years ago. He had this box with him of items - a sort of memory box. I think he was hoping to reconnect. When he found of her passing he left quickly and left it behind and that's how I discovered his name and eventually tracked down his address."
Simon sighed and pulled out the letter he had written to his father and then the one in response he had gotten. He was trying to write a follow up now, about meeting over the Summer. "If there's any other information I can give to help you help me, I'll try my best to make it make sense."
He handed the letters over to Emily one by one.

Dear Mr. Hawthorne,
I’ve written this letter to you nearly a hundred times before. Once it was sent, only to come back by Royal Mail marked address unknown. I found myself at the Royal Mail West End Delivery Office, where I brushed my hand against Post Office Box 14040, a box that I believe you were once familiar with; a box that you have visited before; and the box that let me down in trying to contact you. This was the forwarding address given at the Delivery Office and it is my hope that this letter finally reaches you.
I initially got the first address from some letters found within a box that you unintentionally left at my doorstep in South Kensington on the night of July 14, 2021. If you’re still reading at this point, something tells me you’re beginning to understand the direction in which this letter is heading.
I imagine I know who you are and I am quite certain that you know who I am.
And yet - This is a subject that I feel would be better addressed in person, as I always seem to fall short to put into words what I’d like to say in writing. Hundreds of crumpled up pieces of parchment would bear proof to such failure.
This is a conversation to be had that has been a long time coming; nearly thirteen years in the making. I have recently returned to school from just having Winter Holiday but perhaps we can meet over my Spring Holiday or even out towards Summer.
If this letter reaches you, and you feel the inclination to return my correspondence, I do ask that you please use the alias of Professor Nicholas McKay. He is the Director of the London College of Music and I believe that my aunt will most certainly forward any mail from him to me in an expeditious manner.
Hoping this letter finds you well as we enter into the new year,

S. E. Kincaid,
One can scarcely fathom what an insurmountable task your correspondence must have been for someone at the youthful age of thirteen. This response is overdue but do realize that time is needed for the written word to be absorbed wholly at the convenience of the reader. The reader must correctly interpret each nuance as to elucidate the message so that one can begin to clarify and deliver a response. It is then, and only then, that the written word can transcend from mind to parchment, physically revealing itself to the world.
Ink across the page to deliver a message, yes? Your words explored the prospect of a meeting and it only seems appropriate that such an introduction should take place. The written word can be one of the best mediums of communication because it gives one time to reflect, allows one to choose precise words, and yet the written word's message can be muddled in the course of interpretation. Your request to meet seems both reasonable and logical.
A trip to London is predestined.
There is much to convey concerning your future,

Emily once again listened to what Simon was saying. When she found out he didn't like sweets, she was fine with it. She did consider lemon drops a sweet because they're sweet to her and her cousins. Emily decided to speak again saying,
"That's fine if you don't like sweets, not everyone likes sweets. But I do consider lemon drops sweets because they are sweet and yummy too!"
Emily fell silent again because she wanted to know what Simon's answer to her question would be. When Simon answered, Emily, listened carefully. When Emily heard that it'll be complicated to get the right letter, she grinned. But she was still listening. After Simon finished speaking again, the young Gryffindor thought about what else to say. She finally decided will saying,
"It's fine if it'll be complicated! I love a good challenge! I'm also very good with challenges too! I'm sorry for your loss, Simon. I don't think I'll need any more information from what you've given me so far, Simon."
When Simon handed Emily the two letters she read through them carefully. After Emily read through the letters a few times she finally asked,
"Did your father ever really reply to you? I'm sorry if that sounded rude. I just kinda need to know. You don't have to answer if you don't want to."
Emily really hoped that she didn't offend Simon in any way with what she just asked. Emily realized that if she can't help Simon on her own she could always ask her cousins for advice. They'd always help her in any way if she needs the help of course.

Trying to explain the problem to @Emily Flower
"Yea, yea, that's him. - I think," Simon paused as he looked over the letter. "I mean, I told him to use an alias because I didn't think my aunt would transfer a letter from some random guy to me so I had it like it was from one of the local colleges about music so I told him to use one of the professor's names." He didn't like being backhanded like that to his aunt or seem dishonest but she didn't need to get into all this. She wasn't even from the magical world and so things like this would simple affect her all the more.
"So I want to meet and he mentions London so I want to agree to that. I just don't know how to say it. I don't know what it is when even when we met face to face I had a hard time speaking with him. It was like there was this force, this bond that drew me to him but at the same time compelled me away and every time I put ink to parchment I feel that same push and pull. It's like, something is drawing me to him and yet something's telling me to stay away."
This was a lot to drop on someone he just met and Simon glanced down, feeling a little foolish.

When Emily heard Simon speak again to answer the question she very much regretted asking, so she listened to see what his answer will be. Emily was surprised when she got an honest answer. But she decided to talk again saying,
"Ah, I see. That makes sense. Does your aunt know your father or no?"
Emily didnt even know why she was asking these questions. She probably knew the answer, but she wasn't sure. When she heard Simon give her more information, she listened. After Simon finished speaking, Emily took in all of the information she was given and thought about what else to say. After a few minutes of thinking, the young girl finally said,
"OK. I feel like I know what feeling your talking about. Also, I could probably ask my cousins for help, of you'd like me to. Or I can just think about how you should write back to your father from the two letters I just read. How does that sound?"
Emily is very good with taking in a lot of information. Shes also very good with using the information to solve her problems. But, Emily just hoped that she could solve this problem with the information she's gotten without giving up or asking her cousins right away.

Moping a bit to @Emily Flower, apologies
"No, she's never met him," he answered her question about Aunt Maggie and whether or not she had met Adrian Hawthorne. That had been a rather quick romance on behalf of his mother, her sister, and she hadn't gotten an introduction. No, pretty quickly on his mother would declare to herself that Adrian Hawthorne was not a man that she wanted to associate with any longer for one reason or another and broke off contact with him. She would do this even before realizing that Simon had come to be.
"Besides, even if she had met him I don't think she'd appreciate me trying to contact him. I don't think she'd appreciate me trying to contact him now even not knowing him. She knows OF him now," but Simon couldn't really reveal the most important part to the girl in the Owlery with him and that was that his father was a vampire and that surely would make any muggle like his Aunt Maggie leery. It could make anyone so.
"I just don't understand in his response how anyone can write so many words and yet be so......vague. It's like he used this entire piece of parchment just to say nothing at all. Maybe he's trying to send a message that he doesn't care; that he doesn't want to meet. Maybe I need to give up."

When Emily heard Simon answer her question about his aunt meeting his father, Emily listened to the answer then said,
"OK. That makes sense. If your aunt had met your father and if she found out you were trying to contact him I wonder what she'll say. But again since she's never met him I still wonder what she'll say if she finds out your trying to contact your father."
Emily technically respond to his full answer since she didn't really say anything that wasnt in the answer except for the wonder part. But she is always wondering so she hoped Simon wouldn't be confused or mad when he heard that.
But there was one thing that Emily couldn't stop thinking about. And it was strange to Emily since she's never solved a mystery like this before, so she said in her mind,
"Will I ever be able to help Simon to write the perfect letter to his father and actually get a good response from it?"
She was worried now, but she didn't show it since she didnt want Simon to know. She just hoped she could do it. And hopefully she could.
While thinking about this, Emily heard Simon speak again. She listened realizing that she could help Simon with the idea she just came up with. So, Emily said,
"I agree. Its very strange how he replied to your letter. I've never seen anyone reply that way to someone before. Don't worry tho, cause I have a plan. I'm pretty sure it'll work, so I need you to not give up."
