Having finally finished his letter, after what might have been his 47th draft, Simon Kincaid made his way up to the Owlery that afternoon. It was a Saturday and as he walked up the stone steps toward where the owls were he could see many other students out on the Grounds, enjoying their day of freedom. It was days like this that he wondered what he would do if he could go out and enjoy the sun as freely as others could.

He arrived in the Owlery and pulled the letter from the envelope to reread the words he had written one last time before sending it off. He was looking for a typo or perhaps an incomplete sentence but to his horror he discovered that he hated the entire flow of the letter. Why had this sounded acceptable to him just moments before back in the Hufflepuff Common Room? He let out a long sigh as he crumpled it up quickly into a snowball sized ball.

That didn't make him feel any better and he looked down at the paper in his hands and stretched it back out to straighten it out and then began to rip it into several different pieces. Something about physically destructing it instead of just maiming it felt better to him. Why was writing to this man so difficult?!

Emily was in her dorm writing a letter to her cousins that wrote to her. Emily is always happy whenever her cousins wrote to her. After she finally finished her letter she read over it. Deciding it was good, the young Gryffindor left her dorm and her common room. She then walked peacefully to the Owlery.

While the young girl was walking she was thinking about what her summer would be like. She wanted to go to Japan to spend her whole summer break with her cousins, so in her letter she asked them if she could join them during the summer.

After a while of walking Emily finally reached the stairs to the Owlery. The young girl feeling energized, ran up the stairs. Once she reached the door she stopped to catch her breath. After she caught her breath she went into the Owlery and looked for her family's owl. Once she found it, she walked over to the owl and tied the letter to its feet and it flew off.

Emily looked out the window for a bit and she continued to think about her summer vacation with her cousins. The young girl hoped her cousins will let her come and see them in Japan during the summer.

One of the bits of paper fell to the ground and Simon leaned down to pick it up, placing it, and the others into his hand securely into the bag around his shoulder. The owls didn't need to think his failure on paper was food and attempt to eat it and get sick from it. That's when he noticed the girl there.

He saw she was sending a letter off and wished he could so easily do so, but then again, who was to say she hadn't written 75 versions of hers? She seemed carefree enough though. "When I was out here the other day, quidditch practice was going on. The golden snitch flew in here and caused quite the commotion for the mostly sleeping owls. Feathers were absolutely everywhere. Found a couple on my cloak even the next day when I swore I got them all," he said as a way to break the silence that was there.

It had been a crazy day in the Owlery but luckily this one seemed far more calm - at least for the girl and at least for the birds. He still had yet to find his calmness. Simon then saw he had a roll there from the Great Hall earlier from meal time and brought it out, breaking it into small pieces to scatter for the owls. They could have a snack when they woke. A few that were already awake enough perked up and flocked over to the places where he tossed the treat. "I'm Simon. Simon Kincaid. Who were you writing to?"

While there was silence Emily was daydreaming about her summer, but when she heard a voice she jumped and turned around. Emily than saw the boy. She didnt know what to say, so she stayed quite until the boy introduced himself.

Emily decided to tell the boy the truth about who she was writing too, but she was also going to introduce herself.

"I'm sending a letter to my cousins who are in Japan. Also, I'm Emily. Emily Flower." Emily said answering the boy known as Simon's question.

Emily didnt want to tell Simon why she was sending the letter. She was only going to tell him if he asked, which she was fine if he did.

Emily didnt know what else to say, so she just stayed quite. She went back to daydreaming, but she was still listening just in case Simon spoke again so she won't jump like she did the first time he spoke.

Emily realized that she was a little bit hungry, so she took out a box of strawberry pocky that was in her cloak pocket. She then opened up the box and took a stick out and ate it.

While eating her treat she remembered the memory of her and her cousin Senri in her room talking and eating pocky. She smiled at the memory. Between her and her three cousins, Kaname, Yuki, and Senri, she was closer to Senri because they both love pocky.

Unsure how to approach the situation, so letting @Emily Flower have her peace

"That's cool to have family in Japan," he said, but realized that was much further away from the Scottish Highlands than London was and he wondered if that made Emily more homesick than he felt at times. She seemed pretty quiet, and ate her candy, or what he assumed to be candy, without saying much more so he figured she probably didn't want to talk.

He let silence fall again and felt silly for intruding and interrupting her thoughts and broke up the rest of the bread to feed to the owls before securing the bag over his shoulder. Simon was very much an extrovert but one that cared immensely over other people's feelings so he didn't know how to really approach or navigate quiet people.

"Well, best wishes to you and your family in Japan, Emily," he said with a kind smile. Simon then headed toward the entrance to the Owlery. He knew that their interaction had been short, but she seemed preoccupied and he didn't want to be rude and disrupt her more than he already had. He'd leave her to her thoughts and the Owlery was probably a good place for that as it wasn't overcrowded with people like the Grounds were.

Emily stopped eating her pocky when she heard Simon speak again. She waited a while before she realized that she probably blew her shot at getting a new friend. The young girl didnt have that many friends. All of her friends were vampires and their all in Japan with her cousins at Cross Academy.

Before Simon could actually leave, Emily said, If you thought I was homesick or if you thought I lived in Japan, I'm not homesick, and I don't live in Japan. My cousins and all of my friends are in Japan because they go to school there."

Emily thought about what else to say, but yet again nothing else came to the girls mind. If she actually lost her shot at getting a new friend she'd start yelling at herself in her mind, she didnt care if she actually did that, she just wants friends at Hogwarts and not only have friends that she can't even see everyday or whenever she wants to. She was allowed to before she got separated from her cousins and her vampire friends because she got accepted into Hogwarts and they got accepted into Cross Academy all the way in Japan, while she's in Scotland. But at least she could owl them and they could owl her back

Talking with @Emily Flower

"Ah," he said, still not fully understanding but trying to. To him, he still seemed to think she seemed to miss her cousins and that alone was a form of homesickness. "You write with them often?" he asked. He wondered if someday he and his own father would write frequently to one another and it wouldn't take over three months to get a letter back as he questioned whether a letter was coming at all.

One of the owls came over close to him but eyed him carefully before taking a bit of the bread into his beak and began to eat it. Simon wasn't a big animal person and that was pretty apparent as the years went by but birds and owls just seemed different. They were disconnected somehow, like, thankful that he was there and giving them bread but also not really wanting to truly give him the time of day. It was a sort of disconnect that some might not like but he enjoyed. Maybe someday he'd want to get an owl - but then again he still had Rascal and Hogwarts did only allow you one pet at a time.

Hogwarts was Rascal's home. He'd have to wait to get his owl.

Emily seemed to notice that she and Simon are completely different. She just had a feeling that they were completely different, like opposites, kinda. She doesn't know what the right words are yet, so she's going to continue trying to find the right words. She decided to stop thinking and to answer Simon's question by saying,

"Ya, we're really close, me and my cousins. But I'm very close with the one that gave me this box of pocky."

When Emily said pocky, she took the small pink box out of her pocket again so Simon could hopefully know what she was talking about. She didn't want to ask too many questions but yet again she was curious as to why Simon was in the Owlery if he wasn't going to send an owl. But, she also didn't want to ask because it might not be any of her business, so she decided to not ask.

Once again Emily fell silent, but not without anything to say. She had a question that she was going to ask Simon, but she decided its best to not ask him the question she wanted to ask. The young Griffindor went back to thinking about her summer. Emily actually realized that she hasn't been to Japan before, but from what she's heard from Senri, she'll be able to eat all of the pocky she wants!

A little more conversation with @Emily Flower

"Ah, pocky. They sell that in some of the stores by my house back in South Kensington," he said of his area of London. "My friend Gabe always liked the chocolate and the strawberry kind," he said but he shook his head, silently indicating that nope, it wasn't for him. "Probably can't find that at Honeydukes, huh?" he spoke of the candy shoppe in Hogsmeade. No, she probably had it sent from her cousins or something.

"I was trying to send the impossible letter," he said and smiled, a bit because he found it so damned frustrating than actually finding it amusing. "It took forever to write the first letter to my father and it was sent back due to it being an outdated address. Found the correct address and then it took him forever to get back to me and now I'm once again taking forever to write him. It really shouldn't be this hard and yet, here I am."

The Gryffindor probably couldn't care less about what he was rambling on about and he leaned down to pick up another piece of bread and brought it over to the owl to pick at. The owl seemed to enjoy that piece too.

Once Emily heard Simon speak again, she stopped thinking and decided to listen. After Simon finished speaking, Emily thought about what she should say next. After a little bit of thought, she replied with,

"Do you not like pocky? It's not for everyone, obviously, but I was just wondering if you like it or not. They sell pocky where I live too! Also, from what I heard from my cousin they also sell pocky in Japan. I can't go to Hogsmeade yet because I'm still in my first year, so I have no idea, but probably not. My cousin sent me a lot of boxes of pocky for me to snack on."

Emily fell silent again because Simon started to speak again. When she found out that Simon was trying to send a letter to his father, Emily frowned.

"I guess it's not always easy to send someone an owl." Emily thought to herself.

She didn't know what to say next, but this idea popped into her mind. She was going to try and help Simon write the right letter to his father, only if she could even help him. But, she'd just have to ask to see if she can help, so she decided to ask saying,

"I can help you try and write a letter to your father if you'd like me to. It seems that I'm good at writing letters. Or maybe it's cause I'm close with my cousins, I have no idea. But, I can still help you, if you'd like my help that is."

Emily had no idea how Simon was going to reply to what she said, but she hoped that she wouldn't regret offering her help to him. But she'd just have to wait and see what he's gonna say next.
