Smiling widely, Bailey rested her book on her lap. She loved the smell of the library, and of old books.
Another reason Bailey was smiling was she felt like she had just made another friend.
A friend who shared her love of books and small habit of rambling on.
When Emma said that she liked baileys perspective on magic, Bailey’s grin grew a little. She liked having a positive outlook, and loved when it impacted others positively too.
When Emma laughed a little, Bailey joined her. She was Trying to be quiet and respectful, but still she was having fun.
Them Enma hushed that she was full of good ideas when Bailey mentioned carrying around a notebook to write down book titles.
As Emma changed the subject to sports and in particular, the three at Hogwarts Bailey had to laugh a little. She was horrible at anything that included a broom, so be default dueling was her favorite.
“I have to say dueling… I really don’t have a preference but I am horrible at anything that has a broom involved, so…. I can be a bit clumsy and me and brooms just don’t mix.
I do enjoy doing Taekwondo. I got my third degree before I came to Hogwarts and I continue to train occasionally. What about you? Do you have a sport you like to watch or participate in?”

Emma was really enjoying their conversation and hoped that Bailey was feeling the same. She was such a sunny person and sometimes Emma could only look on the bad side, or got lost in her head so having someone with that different perspective to kind of bring her out of it was really nice. Especially since she couldn’t seem to do it herself most times.

Emma grinned at Bailey’s laugh, not really knowing why she laughed, but still enjoying it. “Oh! Cool, I’m actually the same. I don’t know what it is but have me try an organized sport and I usually end up injured in some way. That goes double for anything related to brooms. I much prefer dueling because of it. How did you find flying classes?” Emma was curious to see if Bailey had had a similar experience to her with the flying classes.

She had heard of Taekwondo but did admit that she was clueless as to what it all entailed. But still, that sounded like something one would be proud of, so she decided to go with the safe praise. “That’s awesome! You must be able to protect yourself quite well then. I’ve been exploring since arriving at Hogwarts, and I think Archery is quite interesting. I’ve joined a club and I’m working to improve my aim. Have you tried archery before?” Emma giggled a little at thinking how most if not all of her arrows had missed the target that had been set up in her first few times of shooting. She had managed to improve to the point of hitting the target almost every time now which she was counting as a win.

Emma was a great person to talk to- and Bailey was currently enjoying their conversation. Emma was very interesting. And she also seemed to be enjoying their conversation, so Bailey felt happy talking to her.

When Emma grinned at her laughing at her own clumsiness, Bailey smiled sheepishly. Then Emma said that she had a similar problem, so Bailey felt better. When Emma asked what her problem with flying was, Bailey sighed at the memory and then laughed a little. She replied

“I… tried my hardest to get the broom to listen but it… just didn’t cooperate. It’s like… they know i don’t want to do they didn’t cooperate. And I also tripped over the broom… that might be part of it.”

Then Emma mentioned joining the archery club. Bailey found that interesting and said “That’s really cool. I have heard of that club but I am part of so many other clubs so… I always have something conflicting. What clubs are you a part of- besides the Archery Club. And who is in charge of the archery club? That’s a very- well non magical thing, so I find it curious. Is it fun? Did you ever do it at home before coming here? Sorry if … this is too many questions.”

Emma knew how to laugh at herself, and she could tell that Bailey seemed to be the same type of person. It was always good when someone didn’t take others themselves too seriously or were able to laugh off their incidents. Though Emma knew at the time that could be hard to do, and for her at least it wasn’t until later that Emma could laugh about situations like that. Emma knew she was awful and if she had pursued sports extensively, she probably would have been disappointed because it would have been a failure to suck at them, but since she had other strengths and she had not felt the need to join any sports teams, Emma felt no sense of failure about not being good at any of the sports. She was hoping that dueling would be different as it seemed to be more knowledge based, then active running around and dodging so hopefully it was something she would excel at if she ever made the team.

Emma couldn’t help but giggle at Bailey’s story about flying. “I mean that makes sense from what the flying professor said in the first class. But I will say that tripping over the broom is completely understandable. Especially when you’re so focused on getting it to come up without getting hit in the face. Hopefully you didn’t strain anything!” Emma was clumsy enough that she knew the most innocuous of moments could cause some sort of sprain or strain.

Smiling happily, Emma nodded as Bailey spoke. “That would be difficult, especially the choosing between things. Sometimes it’s so hard to make a decision when there’s some sort of conflict in the schedules. Do you find it difficult?” Emma asked, knowing not everyone found it hard to make decisions like that. Emma could go back and forth about decisions she was attempting to made forever in hear head. “Ummmm…let’s see, there’s the Archery Association, the First Year Study Group, Calli Club, I think that’s it for the moment. I’ve seen a couple of book clubs, but haven’t gotten up the nerve to join yet and I’m always keeping an eye out for anything else interesting. Ummm…I think the leader is….Calypso…starly? no it’s starling. Calypso Starling. I’ve never done archery before so it’s been an adventure. So you mentioned you were in a lot of clubs, what all are you in, if you don’t mind me asking?”

Bailey was glad that @Emma Wynn felt as comfortable laughing at herself as Bailey did. Sometimes it made others uncomfortable, and Bailey hated doing that. Emma seemed to understand her pretty well, and they seemed to be in the same boat, at least in some ways.
As Emma giggled at Bailey’s story about flying, Bailey did as well, a blush just barely creeping on her face. It was not her finest moment, but it was funny. When Emma mentioned hoping that she didn’t get a strain, Bailey felt the need to reassure the girl and said “I did not strain anything, thankfully. I did end up with a bruise on my shin, but that’s normal for me.”
As the conversation turned to clubs, Emma asked if she found it difficult having time for all of them. Answering her, Bailey said “I do.. I am part of so many clubs, sometimes it’s so hard. But I don’t do Quidditch, Dueling or broom racing, so I have more time them. Do you do broom racing, Quidditch or Dueling?
And the archery club sounds like a lot of fun! I might check it out if I have time! I would love to be able to do archery, as long as I don’t hurt myself!”

Emma grinned happily after the giggling, happy that Bailey understood her and seemed to have a lot in common with her. “Do you sometimes randomly find a bruise and have no clue how you got it? I sometimes wonder if I might be hitting my leg or arm off my bed in my sleep but usually my bruises would come from random accidents or me just tripping over my feet or something silly like that.” Emma shook her head slightly, remembering the last time she had tripped on her way to class. She managed to trip up the stairs and hit a very painful part of her knee that had had her in tears for a moment as she waited for the pain to pass.

“How do you keep track of everything?” Emma couldn’t believe at how well Bailey must be able to keep up with everything and keep her schedule straight. “I’ve signed up for dueling as that just seems to be an excellent skill to have, and the least need for athleticism, but I’m on the waiting list last I saw, so hopefully next year!” Emma smiled happily, glad that she had introduced her friend to try something new. “You should! If you can find time in your hectic schedule though. And don’t worry. They’re very safety conscious there for good reason. Nobody wants to end up with an arrow in some body part and as far as I’m aware that hasn’t happened thankfully.”

@Emma Wynn asked her if she ever got random bruses and such, and it amused Bailey. This happened to her soo often, she was glad when she learned how to make the Bruise Removal Paste.
Bailey now carried around a spare bottle of it, and now she spoke saying “I do! It happens so often!!! I now carry around a bottle of Bruise Removal Paste. Do you have some? I have a few more bottles in my dorm, so if you need some I can give you this bottle. I struggle with clumsiness and am always happy to help someone else who is!”
As Emma tried to convince her to join Dueling or such, she also asked how bailey kept track of everything.
Bailey smiled and said “As I mentioned I was homeschooled so my mum taught me how to keep track of all of my work and such and it has became especially helpful with all of the clubs I am in!”
She paused for a moment, and then she spoke again. “And if I do join something, it will be dueling. It sounds like fun, and I think my reflexes will be helpful to some extent. Right?”

Emma could tell that Bailey understood her predicament just by the look of amusement that came across Bailey’s face. Emma truly had no idea how she even got some of the bruises that just seemed to appear. Sometimes she didn’t even notice until she caught sight of some discoloring out of the corner of her eye or felt a stab of pain when her clothing or bag or something else pressed against a certain part of her body. It was always surprising but it had also become normal so Emma didn’t do much more than just shrug it off. Shocked, but also wondering why she was shocked, Emma asked “Wait, there’s a paste that removes bruises? That’s a thing.” She paused and shook her head. “I don’t know why I’m so surprised, the magical world seems to have a lot of things that haven’t been figured out in the muggle world yet or can’t be for whatever reason. Where do you buy it? I know you said you have some extra, but I don’t want to have you be low on it for some reason. Plus it would be nice to have some on hand myself.” Emma smiled, trying to show Bailey that she appreciated the offer but she didn’t want to take advantage of her new friend. Hopefully that came across and she wasn’t being ungrateful.

“I can imagine. Organizational skills just seem like an enormous benefit. I’m working on it but it doesn’t always work.” Emma grinned happily, even knowing that if Bailey did join dueling, they’d be facing off against each other at some point but still, that could be fun as well as neither took it too seriously. “Oh for sure. Definitely helps with the dodging. Though we’d be facing off against each other in duels if that’s the case. That could be fun.”

Bailey understood Emma’s predicament with the unusual bruises- this often happens to her as well. Why do I have to be so clumsy??? Why can’t I just be graceful like … I don’t know. A normal girl!
Then Bailey remembered that she was far from normal. A third degree black belt, a witch, a homeschooler and a muggle born. Far from the traditional English school girl.
Handing Emma the paste, Bailey tried to make the girl relax- she clearly didn’t want to seem like she was taking advantage of her, despite the fact that she had been the one to offer.
“They truly are! I wish mine were as good as my mums though.” Bailey spoke about their conversation on organization skills.
Then the conversation turned to Dueling, and Bailey thought it would be fun… I should look out for the openings. Maybe next year!
“It does sound enjoyable! I think I’ll look out for an opening in the Ravenclaw ranks, though I might wait for next year. I also have been considering trying to be a prefect. What do you think? I think it would be fun, but slightly stressful. I might wait till some of my clubs that I run or am in die down a little bit. Would you be interested in being a prefect?”

Emma regretted not bringing a bag even more, carefully taking the paste and tucking it safely onto her lap, making sure one hand remained to keep it steady. It would be horrible to drop it on the floor and have it break. It seemed like it would be an excellent tool to have on hand. Maybe she could learn how to make it at some point, and that would likely be more cost effective as well. She'd just have to make sure it was well hidden in her bag, so the twins didn't find it and try to figure out what it was by using it on everything. That would be just like them to do.

Emma nodded, knowing what it was like to wish their skills were better than what they currently were. "To be fair, your mom has had more years to work on it, I assume." Emma shot Bailey a bit of a cheeky smile, chuckling slightly at her words.

Emma grinned happily, adding "I'm sure you'd be great at it!" She was always encouraging others, while thinking the wort for herself. Honestly, it was something she needed to work on but she struggled with it all the time.

"I think you'd be a great prefect, very understanding and helpful." Emma nodded, her forehead crinkling, knowing that it certainly wouldn't be perfect. "Yes, I could see that. Giving detentions alone makes me shiver. Could you imagine? But I think the good would outweigh the bad. Maybe I'll be chosen one day, but being a prefect in first year might be even harder because you don't know much about the whole spells, dueling or anything like that. I'm sure there will be people who don't want detention or whatnot."
