Everything was way better than what her parents had told her. Josephine couldn’t stop smiling since she got in the train. Her brothers kept making fun of her excitement, but she didn’t care. She knew it was their way of trying to make her be less nervous.

Once they arrived, they parted ways. She follow the other kids, unable to stay put. Even during the boat ride, she kept looking at the water, her eyes looking for some movement. Her parents and brother were always telling her stories about Hogwarts. However, none of them prepared her for the view of the castle. Neither for what awaited for her inside. The Aitken Mansion was a beautiful home, but nothing compare to Hogwarts. It was astonishing, breathtaking. She loved it the second she set eyes upon it.

The Great Hall, once they entered, was also amazing. She looked up and her smile grew even wider. That entertainment lasted not long enough though, as she saw the Sorting Hat. Her heart beat faster as they approached. Her father was a Slytherin and her mom a Hufflepuff, and her brothers were Ravenclaws and Gryffindors. She wasn’t scared, she knew it didn’t matter the house. What mattered was to be loyal to it and to make her family proud.

She was on of the first to be sorted, as her last name started with an A.

Aitken, Josephine.”

Quickly, she moved to sat on the little stool. Then, the Hat talked to her.

“Hmmm… I see the hardworking soul of a Hufflepuff in you, the ambition of a Slytherin… The desire for knowledge of a Ravenclaw… But you’re too much fire for them” he whispered, but it didn’t look like the crowd heard him. Only her. She looked up and the Sorting Hat made his decision: “GRYFFINDOR”

She smiled and got down the stool, then ran to her table. She couldn’t wait to tell her dad. They were going to have a lot of fun making jokes about each other’s house. Josephine found a free space and looked at everyone around her. “Hi!” She said, excited. She couldn’t wait to start making friends!

Had she not made her father recite the process over a hundred times, Enya might've felt more nervous. Follow the rest of the kids who look nervous and wait until they call your name; go up to the hat and get sorted. Easy. Both of her fathers had recounted the times that they had been sorted, and how nervous they were. Enya didn't feel any of that.
She had been lucky enough to make a friend even before boarding the train, maybe if she got lucky the two of them would be in the same house. It wasn't likely, her and Elliott definitely had clashing personalities, there was no way they'd be in the same house, right?
From the four options, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw, she had no clue which one would be the best fit for her. She wasn't very bright, so definitely not Ravenclaw, and she certainly wasn't "cunning and ambitious" like a Slytherin. So, that left the question, was she more Gryffindor, or Hufflepuff?
Well, she wasn't very brave, nor very hard-working- did she even belong in one of the four houses? Her thoughts ran back to her dad, who had claimed, "Gryffindor is the best house, Ennie, I hope you're in that one!" Her other father had said, "Gryffindor is good and all, but Hufflepuff is definitely home-"
"Mae, Enya."

The thoughts burning through her mind had left her nearly unable to register that her name had been called. She nervously coughed into her scarf, before pushing ahead of the crowd. Though she could barely make out the faces, there were so many staring at her. She was the next student for any of the houses, after all.
"Well..." Enya's thoughts were cut short, and from the sound of snickers arising from the crowd, her eyes must've been wider than she thought. She had known the hat would talk, but why did it feel like it was coming from inside her head?!
"Let's see... Ah, not so intelligent, are we?" The hat mocked, shifting a bit atop her head.
"Well, I'm aware of that- no need to point it out so bluntly." Enya tried to look around the crowds, but her eyes could only find so much. Silence happened to be the only response to her snappy comeback, but it didn't last for long.
"Gryffindor!"
A thought ran by her again, as she made her way over to the table lined with red, what was that line the hat had sung?
"You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart."

Well played, hat.

Katie was stressed. How will the ceremony take place ? What's going to happen ? She asked herself a thousand questions. Katie was scared. She entered the castle. Katie was amazed and in awe of the beauty and grandeur of this school; she had never seen such a thing in her entire life. Her heart was beating quickly, very quickly and she was shaking from head to toe. Katie made out four large tables that were filled with students chatting.

The headmaster was talking but Katie didn't pay attention to him she was so obsessed with her ideas. When he had finished his speech she heard another voice, it was the voice of a hat! She couldn't believe her eyes, but she heard what he was saying.
" A thousand years or more ago
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of
Whose names are still well known:

Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.

For were their such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

United by a common goal,
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along their learning.

Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones, they had to teach.

While still alive they did divide
Their favorites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When were they dead and gone?

Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!

Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell where you belong!

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've got a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends. "

once the song has finished Katie waited impatiently for the Headmaster to say her name.
She was waiting thinking a lot when she heard :
- Newson Katie.

She was very scared she started to panic. She slowly walked over to the stool and sat down. She looked around, there were lots of people, she was sure she was going to be humiliate. The Headmaster put down the sorting hat rested on his little head and after a few minutes of reflection the sorting hat screamed

¨ Ravenclaw ¨

And there was a lot of clapping and screaming coming from just one table Katie walked over to it and sat down happily. It was definitely the happiest day of his life. These students are now her second family

Sorting Ceremony 2021-2022
September 1st, 2021 - Evening

As she made her way into the Great Hall for the very first time, bumping her way through the mass of first years around her, she tried to catch some faces, trying to remember them. She played a game with herself all the way from the Hogwarts Express to the Castle and continuing through this very moment where she would attempt to guess the House of the student whose eye she caught. The real trick was not guessing, but remembering the face for later to see if she was right after that Sorting Hat did it's job.

For a moment, though, another face drew her attention as it welcomed her and her classmates through the large doors and into the Great Hall. Solomon Lear - a name she already knew and a face she recognized vauguely from newspapers and books she and her parents had skimmed prior to her departure from home. The Headmaster of Hogwarts. She was confused to see he was covered in armor - as if he was about to go in to battle. She wondered if that was a uniform, or if he simply chose to wear heavy armor all day, or was this a special occasion outfit? Did he think a first year would try and stab him perhaps?

He seemed kind as he greeted her and she moved along into the Great Hall, all the way to the front of the room, where a small chair sat front and center. A chair she was sure she would be seated in, however briefly, soon.

As she waited in the long line of first years for her name to be called, she grew nervous. It was clear the Headmaster was not going in alphabetical order, by first or last name, it just seemed a random spray of names one after another. She assumed, logically, that they would be called by name. But now she had no idea when her name would be announced, she was not able to prepare for that moment, since it could come at any time.

And just as she suspected, it was a surprise when the armored man yelled for her. She felt her stomach drop. She was not nervous about the hat or House itself, but she was not too keen on sitting in front of the entire school.

Mireia had thought for hours about which House she might be sorted in to. She had no particular preference. She only had muggle friends back home, so she would be alone for her incoming to Hogwarts, and so she was not wishing to be in the same House as an existing friend. To be honest, she did not see much difference between the Houses. Yes, Ravenclaws always seemed to be smart, but that did not mean a Gryffindor could not be smart. Perhaps a lot of bad wizards and witches were once Slytherin, but there were bad ones who came from other Houses as well. Maybe their dorm rooms looked different, but how would she know either way? She would not be allowed in the other dorms and would never see them.

She tried to think on her family history, as sometimes it seemed families would be assigned the same house generation after generation. Of course, she knew, this was not applicable to every case. But this, neither, helped herm her father was a Ravenclaws, her mother a Hufflepuff. And further, her uncle was a Gryffindor and her grandmother a Slytherin. This is not including most of her mother's side of the family thelat attended an entirely different wizarding school entirely.

She then thought of the House colors. She did fancy green, she thought. But the Ravenclaws blue was also very pretty and would go well with her dark hair. She enjoyed the red of Gryffindor, but didn't particularly enjoy it paired with the gold. Yellow of Hufflepuff was cute, but almost too bright sometimes for her taste.

She sighed aloud to herself. The thought process frustrated her. From her parents stories, they knew and wanted a particular House and then got it! She seemed the only one who was not sure. Looking on the bright side, though, not having a favorite might be a good thing as she would not be terribly disappointed with any decision. However, on the flip side, she would also not be particularly excited about any decision either.

Mireia let herself dwell on these thoughts, a banter she had had with herself many times over the recent months after he letter had arrived. She let it run through her mind one final time as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head. She closed her eyes, thinking about this, rather than the hundreds of eyes on her as she sat at the front of the large room. While she wasn't particularly afraid of crowds, she was not partial to all eyes on her at once.

She listened, too, as the Hat spoke to her inside her head, debating on what House to send her too. This choice that would decide her housing, her friends, her classes, even her style for the next many years.

"A very colorful family line, child." It spoke. "Blood of many hues, foreign blood too." She assumed it was speaking of her mother's family. "Why, with your history, any House would do for you. But which would be best?" It asked itself as only it knew the answer.

"Hmmm," it hummed in her brain, then shouted aloud for all to hear, "Ravenclaw!"
Mireia exits the scene. Please send an owl if you wish to interact with her, we can start a Ravenclaw table thread, or something similar.

Nick was happy to finally be in the hall that he had been dreaming about ever since his mother first told him about the school he'd one day attend. It was a dream for all young witches and wizards, to attend school and for many, Hogwarts. Nick was no different, he had already read up on the school many times, learned of its history, the wars fought around it, the knowledge held around it and as he swiveled his head around on his neck his mouth was open in amazement as the thought “I'm actually here” flowed through his brain.

The trip itself was amazing, walking through a wall and boarding a train on his trip to the castle grounds, the boats that were taken by the kids to make their way to the castle, led into the massive room with four huge dining tables full of students from the four houses, looking side to side he saw them all, gryffindor, hufflepuff, ravenclaw, and slytherin. Nick had already imagined in his head where he would end up thousands of times, he had ruled that it was fairly likely he would end up anywhere. He held major qualities from all houses and honestly could even care where he ended up, he was just happy to exist at that moment in time where he was.

Walking in line with his new school robes, and his hat, casually clutching his wand that he had acquired very recently time flew by as his mind was in a daze. Sitting by and listening to every word he would remember it all, even if it seemed like a dream he was bound to forget. But nothing from the lights above or the scent in the room would escape his memories. The only forgettable part to the boy was the song that was sung, it was not exactly the most skillful singing, but the words meant everything to most of the new students.

The kids went one by one, Slytherin’s, Ravenclaw’s, Hufflepuff’s and Gryffindor’s were called out one by one until his name was called.

“Nick Lemond” Nick made his way up to the chair and plopped down, his mind in a daze as he felt the hat rest upon his head.

“MMMM you are a hungry child, maybe too much so, willing to do anything are we?” The hat rhetorically asked, already knowing the answers that Nick didn’t and even Nick still knowing this fact himself responded.

“I would never hurt my par-”

“GRYFFINDOR” The hat shouted, cutting the boy's thoughts off.

An erupt of cheers came from the Gryffindor table as Nick got up and made his way over before taking a seat next to some of the other first years. He was ecstatic, not because of where he was placed, but because he was in the building.

Georgiana was in the long line, along with all the students that still remained unsorted. The waiting was making her anxious, she had started biting the black polish off her nails and rocking on her feet, leaning back on her heels and then on the balls of her feet.
It wasn't that she was particularly doubtful about it. She had a hunch about which house she would be sorted into. She had had it for a very long while. Even tho she loved her parents, she knew she wasn't a Ravenclaw like her mom; nor a Gryffindor like her dad, either. She just hoped he wouldn't be too disappointed once he found out...
"Rees, Georgiana Hailey!" a voice announced.
George could feel her heartbeat stop for a second. Involuntarily, she bit her lip so hard it began to bleed. She wasn't precisely excited right now, even when she had been since the moment she received the letter. Finally, the moment had arrived, and she no longer felt ready. Either way, that didn't matter anymore. Head up she walked straight to the Sorting Hat as if nothing was disturbing her. The lip was starting to hurt. A professor placed the hat on her head, and Gia felt suddenly disconnected from reality, although she could see the whole Great Hall hubbub.
"Mm-hm..." the Hat whispered at Gianna's brain. "I see you have a clue about the house you belong to... You can feel the power and you believe you should own it, isn't that true?" It wasn't necessary for Georgiana to give a reply. "Yes, I see it... you would do anything to get back what you own..."
"I wouldn't do anything." Gia protested. "I have limits when it comes to-"
"You don't know what you're capable of yet. But you will discover it soon. Things like that don't remain in the shadows for too long." George suddenly felt a huge weight laying on her shoulders, and looked down.
The Sorting Hat continued either way.
"I see a lot of pride in your heart... if it's not measured, I'm afraid it will lead you to some serious consequences. But if it's in the right proportion, you'll be able to reach the top. You should watch your selfishness... And be aware of it: your not immortal, nor invincible. You are truly intelligent, but it's not wise to consider yourself as a genius." Georgiana frowned, sceptical. She strongly disagreed. "Your ambition and leadership will get you far as long as you recognize where you are standing. And may I advise you; don't ever hate your enemies, it affects your judgement. Having said that, I think we both already knew that you belong to... SLYTHERIN!"
Georgiana felt reality slapping her face as the hat was removed from her head. Had her own soul just betrayed her father? Jacob Rees never had any kind of prejudices against any house, but still, she felt as if her worst nightmare had come to life. Because she remembered very clearly the day when she knew she were a Slytherin. That has been the bigger betrayal after all. What if she turned out to be an evil wizard? Her dad... Oh, man, no. She couldn't think of that right now.
Applauses from the Slytherin table could be heard in the whole room. Gia saw herself forced to stand up again and walk to join them and sit right beside Aura while the next student got sorted. Everyone around Gia gave her smiles and congratulations, and even when she didn't want to, she felt welcome. She felt at home.

Ana got into line alongside the other first years, thankful for the fact that her name put her near the beginning of the List. Her parents had told her there was nothing to worry about. That she would be fine regardless of what house she ended up in. Only... how would they even know? Neither of them had gone to Hogwarts. The thought crossed her mind that she'd never actually asked them what their school experience was like. She'd have to ask them that next time she went home for vacation. Or maybe she'd owl them, since Christmas was still ages away.

Before she could get too far into her thoughts, her name was called and the weird singing hat was placed on her head. It felt strangely as if the thing was rummaging through her brain. Ana felt somewhat uncomfortable at the thought. Hopefully it wouldn't mention the things it found to anyone else.

"I certainly will not, my dear. Don't you worry."

The voice seemed to echo in her brain rather than in her ears. She froze in her seat, too startled to respond.

Now let me see... I haven't had anyone from your family before. But I have just the place for you, child. You are proud and hardworking, but also creative. And that thirst for new knowledge! Yes I think you'll be perfect for RAVENCLAW!"

There was a flurry of clapping, polite from three tables but more exuberant from the fourth. That must be her new housemates. She hurried to join them, a big smile on her face. This was so exciting! She wondered what other strange Traditions Hogwarts would have. Maybe her housemates would tell her about them. Or maybe she'd just have to explore the huge castle herself. She had never even seen a building this large before, let alone entered it. She would have to write her parents and tell them all about it. But first, she'd be meeting her new friends!

Graham raced up the steps, doing his best to chance the noise of the other students. It wasn’t his fault he had been too eager to be the first out of the boats and had instead splashed straight into the lake. It wasn’t his fault it had been too dark to see the difference between the water and the ground at least. A teacher had helped him up and into a dry cloak, but there was nothing to be done about his wet shoes until he reached his dorm. Of course it happened to me, he groaned inwardly. He was fairly certain other students would have made the same mistake in the past. He couldn’t have been the first. Maybe not so much certain as hopeful.

He squelched up the staircase, and tried to duck past the very tall man standing at the doors to the great hall. It was hard to duck past someone when you were the very last, but he did his best. “Sorry I’m late,” he muttered as an apology. Then his mouth dropped open as he realised who it was he was speaking to. The headmaster himself. Grey had dreamed of this day and yet now here it was and he had wet shoes forming little puddles around him. And his mind was blank. Not a single clever thing to say. Instead he whirled around and rushed into the great hall, hoping once again to catch up to the rest of the first year students and no stick out like a sore soppy thumb.

The following events happened in a blur to the skinny boy at the back of the crowd. Unfortunately, his name wasn’t far from the start of the alphabet, and he needed to push through everyone else to take his place on the sorting hat’s seat. He muttered his apologies as he passed.

The boy wasn’t particularly certain which house he wanted to be in. He didn’t mind really, as long as he could be at the school and learn magic. His father had been in Hufflepuff and mother in Ravenclaw, so there was a slight disposition to those he supposed. His older brother followed in their father’s footsteps and landed himself in Hufflepuff. So Grey was quite surprised when the hat instantly blurted out “Gryffindoor!” Just like that, his fate was sealed. He had yet to know what it could properly mean, but he walked with a beaming grin to his new family’s table. He knew without a doubt that he would do his very best to make his house proud, soggy shoes and all.

JUNE SELWYN

Date: September 1, 2021| Solo | Dialogue: X

June was practically bouncing on her toes. In fact, not practically, she was bouncing on her toes. She had raced to the front of the group as they entered the hall, earning a stern look from one of the professors up front. She slowed her pace, choosing instead to focus her attention on the enchanted ceiling. The stars were shining bright, not a cloud in sight. June was able to pick out Cassiopeia from amongst the sea of white dots. She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. Focus, Selwyn, she thought. Your name will be called any moment.

Her name was not called out the next moment, or even the moment after that. Or the one after that. In fact, it felt like nearly an hour had gone by, filled with nothing but Headmaster Lear droning on name after name. June had heard the names of the four houses so many times that she'd nearly gotten sick of them. Her attention wavered, she almost hadn't paid attention when her friend Shawn McCarthy was sorted into Slytherin. There weren't any other students in her year that she was curious what house they would get into, so she started inventing more interesting scenarios in her head to keep herself engaged. Perhaps someone would burst out in tears over their house, perhaps someone famous would be in her year, or perhaps the Sorting Hat was also so incredibly tired of these same four houses that it would invent a brand new one. June liked that last thought the most.

"Selwyn, June."

June's eyes lit up, at long last. She briskly walked to the stool in the middle of the hall, her excitement from the beginning of the ceremony rushing back. She was finally able to take it in, the Sorting Hat. It was quite old and worn, and yet had an air of life and new beginnings around it.

June sat on the stool, and felt the fabled hat be placed on her head. It was quite large and heavy.

"I'm much more than that, mind you." June jumped in her seat ever so slightly. Of course, the Sorting Hat could hear her thoughts. Sorry, Mr. Sorting Hat.

"A Selwyn, haven't sorted one of you in a while. Well-mannered, I see. But stubborn, yes, quite stubborn."

That was a bit rude.

"You want to prove yourself, prove your worth. You're willing to work hard, but only when you feel it's worth it. You're studious, but only when it matters to you. Tricky, tricky..."

June took a deep breath. The suspense was killing her, June started wondering if the Sorting Hat was currently creating that new house June daydreamed earlier. This was boring, this was stupid, wasn't there surely a faster way to do all of this?

"If you really want to get this over with so badly, then I'll go with... SLYTHERIN!"

Relief washed over June as she hopped off the stool, finally. She rushed down to her new house's table, sitting down right next to McCarthy.

Slytherin... June didn't have a preference of house until now, but in that moment, June knew that this was exactly where she was meant to be.

Ravenclaw. It simply had to be Ravenclaw. Leon wasn’t nervous in the slightest. Why should he be? The thing that defined him the most was quite literally the main trait for a Ravenclaw. He wasn’t even close to brave enough to be a Gryffindor, and he wasn’t particularly kind like you would expect of a Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, well… the boy didn’t exactly consider himself to be very ambitious. He had goals, in fact, he had far more than he could count, but they were all easily achievable. Simple things. Things he had no doubt he was capable of. And cunning? No. Leon de Luca was many things, but a liar - let alone a good liar - was not one of them. No, Ravenclaw was the only plausible answer here, he was certain of it. Plus, their emblem was a bird. He had never been the superstitious type, but that had to mean something.
So with that in mind, when his name was called, Leon confidently walked up the stairs and took a seat on the stool as the Sorting Hat was placed atop his head. He expected it to be instant, his house shouted across the Great Hall as soon as the fabric brushed against his hair. Of course, that was not what happened.
The voice that spoke to him now was more than a little jarring. It took him a brief moment to realize that it was coming from the hat, audible only to him.
“Hmmmm. Interesting…”
Interesting? There shouldn’t have been anything interesting about it. He knew what he was, it was just a matter of hearing the words out loud.
“Awful confident, aren’t we? Leon could’ve sworn he heard the hat laugh, but he wasn’t entirely sure. “You know exactly what you want.” Of course he did. It wasn’t even that he wanted to be a Ravenclaw, it was simply what he was. Right?
Wrong. After a short moment of silence, the hat shouted out, ”SLYTHERIN!”
…What.
The hat gave no explanation as it was lifted off his head. Leon stood up, confusion flooding his brain. That just didn't make sense. He barely heard the cheers from the emerald house as he silently moved to their table and took his seat, running through every possible reason he could think of as to why he was here. The hat was never wrong, or so he'd been told, so there had to be some clue. All of these thoughts remained firmly in his brain, though, hidden behind his ever-blank expression.
