Following behind Pax, they both entered the courtyard, and Adelaide had to take a moment to marvel at all the decorations. There had clearly been a lot of time and effort put into decorating this place. She took note of the place where you could seemingly make flower crowns, or masks, and she couldn't help but think that would be fun to do. She nodded as Pax spoke, "It is quite beautiful," she agreed.

There were multiple other activities too, but Adelaide didn't have much time to look at them as Pax had started making a beeline towards the massive, roaring bonfire. Of course they would go straight to the slightly dangerous part of the festival, Adelaide didn't know why she was surprised. Really, though, the bonfire reached quite an enormous height that the blonde was slightly shocked it had been approved to be allowed at the ball. She shook her head before reluctantly following.

Standing beside Pax, she had to agree, "It is quite nice," when she had got close enough, she realized that someone had cast the Flame-Freezing Charm on the bonfire. Well, luckily someone had took some safety precautions. She nodded, "I have had s'mores before, and they are really delicious. There's also some sticks there that we could make torches with," she nodded towards the bundle of sticks, "I also saw a corner back there were we could craft flower crowns or masks, which seems fun," she shrugged before sarcastically saying, "and yes, I do actually find things fun, surprisingly."

The Russian boy followed the Ravenclaw girl to the Courtyard, with Edward wondering so many things about her on the entire route. Like, how would he be a better boyfriend to Clair? How would he even be a good boyfriend? What was her favorite food? Her favorite activity? What was her biggest pet peeve, did she hate anyone? Perhaps she really hated that Ravenclaw broom racing co-captain she was talking about. Maybe it wouldn't harm anyone if a little murder was done. No one- wait- NO! HE MUST NOT THINK ABOUT MURDER.

He tried to avoid it the entire time and now appears to suffer. Suffer meaning that he is constantly quizzed about what the word was that he said, back the day of the Samhain Ball.

"Fuck- I don't know. I don't think I've been to such a nerdy- uhhh- g-great... place. Yes- the library is totally... great." Edward said, stuttering out the words, trying his hardest not to offend Clair.

"I really don't think kids should be allowed to go to the Ball." Edward said, not realizing he was talking to a first year, who was probably in her elevens or twelves by now. Well, he knew he was talking to her, but subconsciously not realizing it.

Edward really seems to be struggling anymore.

Sage seemed a bit more distracted than she let on.
Gemima followed her gaze to a pair of people in the distance. She squinted too, honestly unsure whether it was the other half of their group or not.
While Gem stood pondering, Sage's flower crown caught her eye. It was a delicately woven wreath of delicate branches, russet berries, and snow white baby's breath. Her eyes widened. Sage looked like some sort of woodland fairy.
"Where did you get that?" Gemima wondered. "It looks beautiful on you."

“Um. Thank you for earlier," The taller girl said suddenly. "I did not expect that from Kim."
Gemima nodded, grimacing as she recalled his prank.
"It was no problem. Someone needs to keep him in check! she remarked. "You know, maybe it was my ears playing tricks on me, but I thought I heard explosions coming from the Great Hall. Hope that wasn't him too."

"Boy's been very rude. He's not gon' get away with it, that's for sure.” Sage said.
Gemima raised her eyebrows. "He definitely deserves a little disciplining," she agreed, smirking to herself. "Don't rough him up too badly, though."
She was starting to like Sage.

Just then, there was a resounding whoosh from the direction of the effigy.
Gem turned round just in time to see the great dragon burst into flames. The fire crackled heartily, and licked up at the last remaining rays of sunlight. It looked magnificent. The smell of burning wood and grass filled the air.

Gemima sneezed at the scent, but that didn't stop her from watching the spectacle in utter awe. She stared wistfully at the dragon, everything else forgotten for the time being. Tears pricked at her eyes again as she remembered the words she had pinned to the walls inside.

I wonder where the wishes are going...

Clair laughed "Crow got your tongue?" She had heard him tripping over his words, nit that she really minded, everyone did it once and a while.
The Ravenclaw was pretty much a nerd, other then the fact that she liked people.
"The library is a great place, why don't we meet up tomorrow sometime and I'll show you around the place." She Looked at Edward, "Unless you don't wish to, but I mean we should set a time to see each other, before you leave." She grinned, "You can't get rid of me before you say good bye, don't even try." She was determined to be a perfect Girl friend, which might include a lot of questions to Simon on the subject, seeing as she did not have any knowledge in the matter.

she nodded "I agree, The balls themselves seem stupid. People get badly hurt, there are two many students who don't bother to use their brains, and to many staff." She sighed "Lives would be so much safer, if These Balls did not exist. I die not go to the last one, had no partner, but I'm glad that I had the brains to stay away." She had spent a long time thinking of why she was even going to this ball, she felt like if would be no better then the last balls.

The dragon flared to light as fire splashed onto it from the tip of Flash's wand, and Aly clapped excitedly, watching it begin to crackle and burn in the late afternoon light. The effigy was aflame, the champions had likely been announced (judging by those bushy statues that had formed all around the courtyard, though Aly recognised none of their faces at first sight), and her date was going to show up any mi-

"Aly," said a very familiar voice from behind her.

Aly spun excitedly to face its owner, a brilliant smile spreading quickly across her face. What was the point of a masquerade mask if anyone could recognise her - though, she supposed, this was one person she wanted to be able to see her from across a crowded room. Aaron had finally arrived, looking no less than stunning in a pastel pink suit jacket that matched her dress in a perfect shade, a white shirt, and black pants and shoes. He held flowers in his hand, and Aly flushed at the sight. Pink roses. Exactly what she had for him.

Great minds think alike...

"Wow, you look amazing - er, beautiful. Both, really," the Hufflepuff in front of her stammered, and Aly flushed as pink as her gown at the compliment. She'd never been called beautiful before, and she knew it showed on her face; she couldn't help but smile. He was too sweet, really. Why had she ever doubted that he'd show? "I'm so sorry I'm late, I almost forgot to bring this. I hope you haven't been waiting long."

"N- no, not long at all! I had things to do at the craft corner anyway," the Ravenclaw insisted, looking down to what he was offering to her. It was the cluster of flowers he'd clutched in his hand - only, now that he was holding it out, she could see more clearly that it was no bouquet or boutonniere, but instead, a little bracelet of three pale pink roses, tied together with springs of leaves and white roses. A corsage. She'd seen these before, on the wrists of other girls at other balls, but now, it was her, and it was this ball, and- "Where did you get this?" Aly gushed, delicately holding out her left hand and allowing Aaron to slip the beautiful floral accessory onto her wrist. "It's lovely! You're lovely! Er, I mean handsome. Er-"

That had slipped out too fast, whatever little filter Aly Salinger had on her lips banished by her excitement to be receiving flowers. This was the second time in a row Aaron had done so; he really knew how to speak her language, didn't he? (Even if he didn't necessarily speak flower language, but since pink roses meant varying tones of sweetness, admiration, and perhaps even a bit of puppy love, Aly wasn't going to complain about his choice of corsage.) She blushed a bit brighter, then reached up to where she had tucked another pink rose into her crown just earlier over at the crafting corner.

"I mean, thank you," she said softly, reaching out and tucking the rose into Aaron's suit jacket pocket. "I have one for you, too. Not to replace your pink roses with pink roses, that is, but..."

Aly trailed off as her stare trailed away from the pocket, up Aaron's shoulders and neck to his face. His dark eyes reflected the firelight, turning them into pools of molten gold as she gazed into them, suddenly at more of a loss for words than normal. She had never been on a date. What was she supposed to do, other than stand here and compliment him and watch how the firelight danced in his irises?

Wait just one second. That's too much firelight.

Aly whipped around to face the rest of the courtyard, her eyes skimming over the scene before her; there was the bonfire over there, and the effigy was burning there, and - oh no! One of the champions' shrub statues was on fire!

The Ravenclaw shrieked out a horrified gasp. Why was it that at every Hogwarts celebration, something just had to find itself on fire? She whipped her wand from the pocket of her gown - handy that there had been one of those - and darted away from Aaron, shouting an apology to him over her shoulder. "I'm so sorry! Let me take care of this - I'll be right back, I promise!"

Then she came to a screeching halt in front of the burning statue. At this rate, she couldn't quite tell who it was supposed to be - the champion from Mahoutokoro, perhaps, or Durmstrang, or Beauxbatons? No matter who the shrubbery was supposed to represent, it was not supposed to be on fire! Aly trained her aspen-wood wand upon the fiery fiasco in front of her, then drew a small, precise arrow-shaped movement in the air. "Extinguo!"

Willow's eyes flashed between Marion and Flash. Who was Victor? Flash set him on fire? Surely for a good reason. Flash wouldn't do that just... to do it. He was above that. He wouldn't do that. It made her a horrible liar, whoever she was. She'd have to ask Flash about this later. Despite her spell brutally missing, the girl screamed and ran off crying. A horrible liar and actress apparently. Willow had half a mind to chase after her and shake her down for answers but Flash grabbed her first. She leaned back into him, trying to help keep him upright after a shocking encounter. "Flash, just take deep breaths. We're okay, you're okay." Willow glanced back over her shoulder at where Marion once stood.

From her research about hags, Marion fit none of the boxes. She appeared well kept. She didn't have the time to count her toes, but still Willow wasn't one to doubt her brother. If he said she was a hag, she was a hag. She certainly was a hag in attitude. Her voice came out almost quivering with notes of a horrid curiosity, "I thought the hags were all gone." This wasn't really an assumption with any proof, but was mostly based in a hope that the hags were behind them. There wasn't much time to ask more questions as a familiar, unwanted, face approached the both of them.

Jack Burnett was always someone that Willow had mixed feelings about. He was rude, hated death sentences friendship bracelets, but helped her during a panic attack alongside Ruka. But still... he was a bad taste on her tongue with bittersweet notes of possible manipulation. The separation of them leaning together left her side feeling cold, a faint shiver running down her spine at the cool chill of spring. She really should have brought a jacket or something.

Willow sheathed her wand back into it's holding place, holding Flash's hand with her other arm coming over to rest on his forearm. More contact meant more comfort. "Long time no see, Jack." With a terse smile she nodded at him before walking beside Flash to the effigy. She didn't get a chance to put a wish into the dragon.

As they stood there watching the flames ascend to the sky she laid her head against his arm, being far too short to reach his shoulder. "I wish for us to be happy again, even just for a moment." Her voice was barely above a whisper. Burnett would have the chance to hear it depending on how far away he stood. Feel free to make the judgement call.

"Don't fight her. She's a hag. A hag!"

"Flash, just take deep breaths. We're okay, you're okay."

When Jack came upon them, he could hear Flash and Willow exchanging words and gave them some space, watching the fleeing Marion depart. At least no real damage seemed to have been done - not physically, anyway - even if Flash seemed the worse for wear. Not long after, the English teen spotted Jack and gave a greeting, releasing Willow from his half-hug.

"Burnett... hello."

"Long time no see, Jack." Willow added.

Giving a weak smile, Jack raised a hand in his own greeting to the pair.

"Come join us, I was about to set the dragon alight."

Ah, yes. The dragon. Jack followed after Willow and Flash at a good pace, glancing between them. Soon, Flash ignited the effigy and said dragon was on fire. Jack observed the smoke rise from the flames, his expression solemn. Then, so quietly he almost didn't hear it, a wish left Willow's lips.

"I wish for us to be happy again, even just for a moment."

His gaze fell to her and he sighed heavily. Me too, Willow, he thought. Me too. And I'll do whatever I can to make that happen. He looked back at Flash. But first things first. And sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better.

"You know...seeing you light that dragon reminded me of something someone told me fairly recently," Jack spoke up, studying the back of Flash's neck as he walked closer, moving to stand on the side of his roommate that was opposite of Willow. He kept his hands in his pockets as he did so, casually tilting his head to peer at the other boy. "Flash...would you happen to know what became of Victor Moore?"

Of the six beautiful shrubs in the courtyard, magic so immaculately precise that one could recognize a face among the leave, only one of them had been set on fire. Perhaps art imitated life, since the child was having fire-related issues inside. Ironically, it seemed like all of this fire, on either side of the door, was coming from Durmstrang wands. Maybe they liked fire, maybe it was a compliment? Whether it be for the honor of Durmstrang, to support what was right, or to save the plant life, girls were lining up to stop the unsanctioned blaze.
Aida casts Fire-Extinguishing Charm on Shrubfim (WDC 8 )
Aida's cast: [1d20:5] + 10 = 15 (success)
@Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood was a Durmstrang fan, as it turned out, and would attempt to scare Charles Alluring (@Henry Knight) off. With @Eun-ji Lee Hunt and @Aly Salinger closely behind, this soon became three admonishing sisters against one punk brother, and that was an unwinnable match. It would have been nice to see this level of enthusiasm for fire safety on the champion in the flesh!

With the intensity being drawn outside and quickly doused by the lack of a crowd to heighten the confusion, the drama would instead be mostly internal, between close friends. Something about writing ones dreams down, and being out under the big open sky made one think about things. Their lives were moving forward at a dizzying pace, and friendships, rivalries, and even love would come and go through the years. The natural question then would be, what will stay with them? Nights like this were memorable if only as a step away from the mundane and the habit, so might as well go wild.

That, or go to bed. This was a party that promised to go into the night, and as of then, it was past everyone's usual bed time. Some of them would start to feel sleepy, while others would feel exhilarated by the access to nighttime freedom. Regardless, there would be no more major surprises or events. Many would escape this ball unscathed, surprisingly. Don't forget, it is not too late to catch more things on fire. I mean, look at all this fire around you. No? Fine.

Judith felt kind of stressed about what Hunter was about to answer if he was about to answer. She was scared she might scare him of, ruin their friendship and be left all alone, but on the other side she just knew Hunter wouldn't just leave her there, he was kind and caring, not just someone who would leave her alone standing there.

As soon as Hunter gave his answer a big smile appeared on Judith's face. She felt pure joy, not even sure if she had ever felt so happy before. She was wondering if Hunter accepted her request, because he genuinely wanted to go out on a date with her, felt the same way about her as she felt about him, or did he just want to do her a favour. She smiled, not really knowing what to say. "That's settled then!" She said and smiled. "It's getting a bit late tho, would you like to do another dance or just head back to the common room? Im' not sure if ill rock another of those energic dances tho, I'm usually not one to stay up late" She said and laughed, very happy with the evening and how her day turned out.

Aaron was relieved that Aly wasn't upset by his tardiness. She explained that she'd been working at the craft corner anyway, and he nodded in understanding. "Is that where you made your mask? It's really pretty," he complimented, his eyes breaking contact with hers to focus on the flowers surrounding them. Since he had noticed her from the side where her recognizable (at least to Aaron) hair and stature could be seen, the mask had not hindered him in knowing it was her - especially because he'd been looking for someone likely covered in flowers and wearing a pink dress. But the mask definitely did its job, and most people probably wouldn't know who she was from a distance.

The fourteen-year-old was also glad that she seemed so pleased by the corsage. He was trying hard not to come off as nervous or flustered, and so far he felt like he had managed to keep from being obvious about it, but that little bit of skin contact when he placed the corsage on her wrist made his face feel a little warm. He quickly dropped his hands to his side once the flowers were in place. He tried to avoid thinking about the fact that he'd actually be holding her hand and be in much closer contact if they were to dance, and instead focused on the question she asked. "I got it owled from home," he told her with a smile.

He had received his pink jacket and the corsage after owling his dad at home earlier that week. Last year, Aaron had made the mistake of owling his mother about the dance and that he was going with a friend, Eun-ji. But she had immediately overreacted and thought it was a date and sent him all sorts of unwarranted advice that made him embarrassed. So this time, now that he was actually with a date, there was no way he was going to tell his mom. He had told Chae-rin to deliver this letter specifically to his dad, and in the letter itself, he had not only asked for a pink rose corsage and a pink jacket, but he had also warned his father not to mention a word of it to his mother. Aaron even owled his mother separately about there being just a potluck event - hence how he had arrived at the Great Hall with those boxes of her Korean food.

"I'm glad you like it," Aaron said, a little pleased with himself for the idea. Her comment calling him lovely - handsome, even - is what finally prompted a visible reaction. He blushed a bit, and to distract himself he reached up and ran a hand through his hair which had been slicked back a bit for the ball. It was an unfamiliar hairstyle, but he thought it looked nice, and was appreciative of Aly for complimenting him. She followed it up by tucking a pink rose into his jacket pocket, and he thought it was pretty cool that they would match. Great minds think alike.

"Thanks," Aaron said, his eyes going from the rose on his jacket to her again. It felt like she was closer than before, since she had placed the flower on his jacket. His eyes lingered on her face, dazed for a moment as he admired her mask and her freckles and her eyes and her everything. The boy was completely charmed by her in that moment. "Do you-"

Suddenly, Aly turned away from him and towards something else. Aaron felt like he was snapped out of a trance, and he looked in the same direction as her. His brown eyes widened a bit at the sight of one of the champion hedge statues on fire. Aly launched into action and rushed off to help, telling Aaron she'd be right back. The Hufflepuff hesitated to join her, knowing that he was not so great with his spellcasting. But after a moment, he followed her. Even if he couldn't help with the casting, he could offer support! There were a couple others helping to extinguish it too, and Aaron barely made it behind Aly before the fire was contained. She hadn't needed to cast after all.

"Ball planners always have their hands full," Aaron said as he stepped up beside Aly. "These events always seem to have something go wrong, big or small. I learned that the hard way," he explained, looking down and over at her. He was referencing how staff had cancelled the blossom ball during their first year, but Aaron and company had taken it upon themselves to put together a secret ball instead. And it ended with a mosp attack. Aaron had learned over the last couple months hanging out with Aly that she hadn't been there, but he had filled her in on the details. He had carried a lot of guilt for what happened, but it seemed to just be a curse that Hogwarts events couldn't happen without something going wrong. He'd really been hoping that Aly's event would go seamlessly, though. "Hopefully this is the worst that happens tonight. Probably someone jealous of them?"

Aaron offered the brunette at his side a sympathetic smile, then his eyes traveled back up to the champion shrubs they were now standing in front of. He only recognized Howard, but this shrub that had been partially burned seemed familiar somehow. He'd probably find out later who it was, but for now he glanced around to see who had set it on fire. He didn't immediately see the perpetrator, but he did recognize Aida nearby, and also Eun-ji. Upon making eye contact with her, he offered a smile and waved. He was glad to see that she had decided to come and enjoy the festivities as well.
