2022, Stage 3 Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 1

Nobody wasted time in casting the first spells of the duel. As agreed upon, Henry attempted to hit Prince with a blindfolding charm. The Ravenclaw dodged it, but Piper cast a quick Flipendo in an attempt to salvage the situation. A brief wave of confusion rolled over Piper as Prince turned and dodged that too. Piper knew her aim had been true; what had happened? It was almost psychic.

Unfortunately, Piper did not have much time to think things through further, as a double water jet shot pristinely from Stavrou's wand and impacted Piper and Henry simultaneously. It reminded Piper of the powerful pressure washer at home as she momentarily stumbled backwards. That bruise would hurt in the morning, but Piper was much more distracted by the crafting of the spell. How did it hit two targets at once? The caster's concentration had to be massive. Would she learn to do that in fifth year? If so, that was one reason to look forward to coming years. While she wanted to win, the Slytherin definitely saw value in learning from others' skills, as well as appreciating them. Not that she would say anything about it out loud, of course.

As if it weren't bad enough both of the Slytherin spells missed, Prince cast Henry's spell back onto him, this time successfully. Though it obviously wasn't a good thing, Henry seemed fairly unfazed, commenting on the predictability of the spell. In all fairness, Piper agreed that spell was quite predictable, and indeed seemed to be a Ravenclaw favorite. She nodded to address Henry's question and adjusted her face into a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Never been better!" The second year appreciated having such an encouraging partner; skillful and elegant as Astrea had been, she hadn't been one to talk much. Then again, neither was Piper. But talking wasn't the end goal, of course, so she reoriented her focus and prepared for whatever may come next.

The ongoing duel was exciting but also a little concerning, because simply watching it confirmed that the Ravenclaw team was way out of the Slytherin pair's league. Phadra would cast a Flipendo, but her aim seemed off and despite the blindfold Henry had been able to step out of the spell's way. If by sheer luck or confidence, Alan couldn't tell for sure. Dee however managed to hit the blindfolded boy with a nice Ventus, that would deal some damage and impair the Slytherin some more, even after Piper had taken off the blindfold. Henry himself would attempt to cast the fog charm, however to his surprise the spell would manifest right in his face other than planned. His sight was once more as impaired as if he had never taken off the blindfold in the first place.

"Didn't say that," Dee replied, her eyes shining with amusement. How would there ever be a too much of water, as long as it was directed at their opponents.

Henry's words pulled her attention back to the other side of the stage, her eyebrows rising. Phaedra next to her burst out into unapologetic laughter, which coaxed a giggle from Dee's own throat. Yes, now that she thought about it, blatant hyprocrisy was something she remembered from Henry. At least that hadn't changed since then. "Remind me, which spell did you just try to hit me with?" she replied, her grin turning into a very self-satisfied smirk. "Don't be jealous because I can actually aim."

Which she proceeded to prove with a well-placed Ventus, although granted, hitting a blindfolded opponent wasn't the biggest challenge she'd ever faced. Especially when that opponent was so off-center that the fog he conjured (that was a spell Dee hadn't yet learned, she noted with a tinge of envy) ended up enveloping himself, which... surely hadn't been the intention?

"Do you think he's trying to prove how unpredictable he is?" Dee asked her partner, the scepticism clear in her voice.

A nod toward Piper severing as a reply, eyes flashing ahead toward their opponents of blue and sliver.

His ears perked up at the usual sound of Hanako words of romance and banter with his opponents. Henry heard that his dorm mate's opponents were two studends he knew and admired, a part of him was glad thay he wasn't dueling the pair but another part of him preferred dueling them over Prince.

The teen felt himself stumbling to the side, unawarely avoiding a spell but was hit by the wind jinx. Feeling the blindfold pulled off, the teen nodded toward Piper and softly spoke"thank you, now shall we roast some birds?"

Henry looked ahead at his opponents but his mind imagining Hanako getting slammed onto his back or face, either would cause him to smile.

The ravenclaws enjoyed their banter it seemed. Henry felt his eyes flash toward Piper, his words loud enough for both sides to hear as he spoke"how sweet, they think we're jealous of getting second place," the teen couldn't watch the other duels to but wager that Santario and Illowy's duel was going well and then there are three more after all.

Henry knew the birds only managed to come close this year from the second stage where hufflepuff was dominated again.

The teen aimed his wand, two of his favorite spells and quite honestly his signatures. Ventus and Nebulus. Two spells that never failed him as he aimed and muttered, "Nebulus, " only thing this time something went wrong and instead of firing away from them. The smoke surrounded their side.

"bloody hell," Henry softly cursed as he swatted away a bit of smoke cleary not pleased with the events nor the words coming from the ravenclaw's mouth.

"How predictable, laughing at another falters but then again didn't Alec laugh at yours," Henry called out keeping his banter friendly and light as he turned his focus to a important element and person that day.

"Piper, Status?"

A short phase as he squinted through the eye irritating fog perhaps this eas a good thing, now he could see how it affected others. How it affected Nicky. Henry pushed the thought away, still beating himself over casting at his friend. The teen loathed last stage, loathed how he won a duel because he cast and hex his friend. A part of him thought he deserved this.... thought he deserved to lose and suffer the way that he made his friend suffer.

Eyes ahead as his wand aimed forward, the teen for a moment was preferring the first duel where he faced Dealla as he turned toward Piper but spoke loud enough for both sides to hear, "who knew that birds had a massive ego, honesty they could bored us to sleep with their banter." The teen nod toward Piper with a sly amkle before it faded ans his eyes looked ahead, counting the seconds down in his mind as he wanted to watch the others. Particularly Hanako'a still wishing to witness him knocked on his back.

The next round did not go as planned, as per usual. At this rate, Piper was unsure if planning ahead was even worth anything since it never seemed to fall into place. She moved to remove her upbeat partner's blindfold so he could see, but this proved to be pointless as his next spell went dreadfully wrong. Fortunately, Stavrou missed Henry despite his previous blindfold. Prince made a jab at Henry's previous comment on predictability. Piper chose not to say anything, though when asked about her status she was forced to evaluate herself. She felt fine, a bit tired from her previous hits, but nothing really ached. "I'm doing good," she responded almost automatically. She was miffed, however, at whoever had done the matching because her team was at a clear age and experience disadvantage. It helped knowing that one day she would be equivalent to that much experience and be able to lord it over second years too.

Phaedra scoffed, disappointed that her Flipendo had just barely missed Knight. What was it with her and easy targets? Every duel, the initial blindfolding was almost never an issue, but it seemed as if opponents always became more agile afterwards—perhaps since able to refrain from their spellwork. Regardless, it annoyed her immensely. “I think he's learned a new word and wants to show everyone. He certainly likes saying that, doesn't he? Like a parrot.” What a shame. The starting banter had been so exciting.

There wasn't a lot of tension going on, so Alan wouldn't mind their bantering and he couldn't help but grin occasionally at some especially witty comebacks and jabs from the Ravenclaw side of the piste. He also somewhat felt pity for the vipers who were clearly outmatched and yet still tried to desperately convince themselves they would come out on top of this situation. So far the Ravenclaws hadn't taken a single hit, whereas the other side had taken hit after hit. But Alan would continue to watch, nothing happened in which he had been forced to step in or interrupt the duel. Phadra would cast a beautiful water spell, which's jet would blind Henry. A wonderful spell, one that Alan was quite fond of himself. Henry decided to spend his action to heal Piper, perhaps he had accepted the fact that it would be too late for him this duel? It was difficult to see him within all the fog and wind, so Alan couldn't read his expressions well. But he looked like he could drop any second, which was a shame. But if it would happen, Alan was ready to get him out of the danger zone. Dee would cast the tickling spell and though it seemed like there was a little struggle to get the spell to succeed, her experience and expertise helped her along and she managed to hit Henry with it. Which must be somewhat the most humiliating spell she could have chosen in the moment, as the boy would be forced to lose his composure as laughter erupted from him. Burst of giggles and painful wheezes alike. Piper with a similar idea in mind tried to cast the very same spell at Phaedra, but she seemed troubled with water that restricted her view and instead missed Phaedra who managed to avoid getting hit. Luckily or unluckily for her, she blinked away any leftover water drops that had bothered her, leaving her with an unobstructed view just moments too late. This was truly interesting to watch, but also just slightly painful. He wondered if there would be much more banter.

Despite Henry just being the vague shape of a person enveloped by his own fog, both Dee's and Phaedra's next spell hit without an issue, and Dee leaned forward a little, her smile sharp.

Henry, meanwhile, cast a healing spell on Piper, which... Dee didn't really understand, from a strategic point of view. Maybe his main goal really was being unpredictable? If so, he was doing a fine job of it, because Dealla hadn't foreseen this. On the other hand... "You wanna know something else that's predictable?" she called across the stage. "I predict we'll fulfill Phaedra's promise soon." Certainly, she didn't think Henry would be able to remain standing through another hit. He'd taken a few already.

Henry Knight is both a pessimistic and realistic. Choosing to see the darkness over the light, he doesn't have much esteem in himself to recognize his good qualities or positives.

Since the beginning, he knew that they would lose this duel. He wasn't going to alter the fact or have faith when there wasn't anything else his mind would allow him to see. The one good thing is that the birds have been focusing on him this whole time meaning Piper hadn't been hit. He might be a failure but maybe he could spare Piper of being the target for the duel this stage.

"Reparifors."

A flick of his wrist, Henry cast a healing charm over Piper wanting to give her as much strength that he could manage.
A nod over toward her as he spoke"Better?" A glance and through the fog he felt himself hit with another jet of water followed by the stinging sensation of the tickling charm.

Biting the inside of his cheek, containing himself from laughing as the sensation pulled at his limbs and ached. Forcing himself to focus as he looked over toward Piper, ensuring she wasn't hit as he spoke"you got this, breath and focus. You got this." A low whsiper of confidence for his younger parther who he feared for. Not wanting to fall, not wanting to leave her, not wanting her to be the target of the birds.

A look across. They continued to speak. Henry could only hope that Hanako was feeling as much discomfort as him, to imagine the dorm mate succeeding where he failed omly made the moment worse.

"How cute, they think their actually going to win the championship this year," Henry replied back to the ravenclaw duo's banter. 6 duels. Not every team could win them all... well not in multiple stages that is.

A nod toward Piper followed by a smile of encouragement before it faded as the lad looked across the stage, squinting through fog at the two ravenclaw girls as he called over, "enjoy second place again this year while we celebrate the trophy for another year."
