Lightning
ReducioLamik: [d20: 2], failure
Everly: [d20: 20], success
Effects: Everly takes 50 + 5 x 10 = 100 damage.
Despite the momentary confusion that Everly's unexpected self-sacrifice had caused, the duel did not pause or falter.
Lydia had clearly decided that her spells were too unlikely to hit in this smoke, and instead readied herself in case the Gryffindors tried to take advantage of her vulnerability. Instead, both Lions aimed their wands at Lea, possibly not wanting to risk a repeat performance of Lamik's previous spell while they figured out why Everly had felt compelled to protect Lydia in the first place.
Lamik's fire spell went off nicely, shooting across the stage faster than Lea could manage to dodge, hitting her leg and leaving her aflame. Everly was not as lucky; perhaps still distracted from what had happened just now and the flames eating at her sleeve as a result, her spell fizzled for a short moment at the tip of her want but went out. Not catastrophic failure, at least.
Lea was holding her own well enough, starting another attempt to disarm Lamik, whose fire spells were already laying destruction to both opponents and allies. Yet the smoke made it difficult to see the boy's form, and he was far too nimble to be caught by a spell aimed by approximation.
At least the smoke was clearing, Dee noted, blinking into the haze. It was easier to make out what was going on again... just in time to watch lightning streak down from the thundercloud above the Gryffindors, striking Everly before she likely even realised what was going on. Dee winced. Ouch. Not a great start to the duel for the Gryffindor girl.

If the previous attempt hadn't worked, it made sense that it wouldn't this time as well. At least, that was what Lea decided to say to herself as the disarming charm flew through the air into the smoke. The smoke also provided a good excuse for why she hadn't dodged the flames in time, only noticing once the spell was far too close to get out of the way. Wow- that hurt, a lot. She winced, wishing that she could also get people on the other side of the platform to take the spells instead. But it seemed the lightning had done that for Lea, making the hufflepuff feel bad about her wish.

Things were looking grim. They could have been worse, but not by much. While his spell hit, and he managed to avoid being hit himself, Lamik noticed how his partner was fairing- that is to say, how poorly things were going for her. The fire must have hurt quite a bit, that was for certain, but what hurt more was probably the lightning. Descending from the sky faster then one could blink, it struck her. Ouch. Not only that, but her spell failed to even cast. She was probably distracted and in pain, and a part of Lamik wanted to run over to her to make sure she was ok. No time now, however. "Breathe, Everly. Whatever it is that's going through your head, it doesn't matter. You know you're good at this."

"I don't know!" Everly would look desperately back at her partner after his outburst, considering she'd literally just ran into his spell. Her hand shook ever so slightly as she told herself to snap out of it. The next round wouldn't wait for anyone. And it didn't, with Everly so distracted, she wouldn't notice that her spell had failed when it had. She looked down at the walnut wand, crestfallen. She'd been distracted, again, while everyone else's spells had gone off without a hitch. Then, simultaneously, the large thundercloud above the Gryffindor's head would strike her. She wasn't exactly in the best position.
One.
Two.
The smoke had cleared, their line of defense gone. Everly had wasted it. She shook her head at herself, trying to clear her thoughts and focus. If their duel continued this way, she'd never let herself let this go.

The smoke that was covering the platform was making things hard for Lydia to see clearly; if she were to cast, her spell might miss their opponents, or worse, she might accidentally hit Lea. So instead she braced herself and tried her best to stay vigilant, ready to avoid whatever spell Lamik and Everly might direct towards her... but they never came. Instead, she saw how flames flew in Lea's direction and started burning at her, and moved closer to her duelling partner. "Are you alright?" she checked in on her, before she noticed that the smoke was finally going away. Luckily for them, Everly didn't manage to cast her spell in this round; Lydia wanted to share a hopeful smile towards Lea, but in that moment a lighting struck Everly, and left Lydia speechless. Of course she knew how the spell worked, and what it was supposed to do, but she had also never seen that happen, and inside she felt almost guilty for having cast it.
But of course this was a duel, and everybody knew what they were getting themselves into, so Lydia shook her head and concentrated back onto the duel.Action: Doing as strategised

Something was clearly odd about this duel, and Dee could only watch the unfolding events in increasing confusion. It wasn't her place to step in, not yet at least, there was nothing for her to do but observe and take notes.
On the Hufflepuff side, things were rather normal. They were holding up well, perhaps at this point a little frustrated, considering they had yet to land a hit this duel, unless you counted the sharp lightning strike from earlier. Lydia's next spell didn't fare any better, the blast of wind that had come from the tip of her wand missing Lamik by a wide margin, although the smoke was all but gone at this point. Lea was for the moment more concerned with not getting burnt even worse, and extinguished the flames that were still licking at her clothes.
On the Gryffindor side, the Lions seemed to have decided that finishing this duel sooner rather than later would be in their best interest, and had both chosen the perhaps strongest attack spell there was, a pure blast of force. But that was where things went oh, so wrong. Everly had perhaps not quite found her focus again from what had happened earlier, and while her previous spell had simply failed, this one failed much more spectacularly. Instead of fizzling out, it rebounded on her, the impact knocking her back a step. Meanwhile Lamik repeated his impressive stunt from earlier, splitting his spell in two to target both Hufflepuffs. He had better control of his aim this time, too, both projectiles heading where they were meant to be... and then Everly started moving again. Wand in hand, still staggering from her backfired jinx, she once again stumbled into the line of fire between Lamik and Lydia, the spell slamming into her with force. She was thrown onto the stage, unmoving. Perhaps a result of the confusion, but Lea was able to duck out of the other projectile's path.
Dee started forward, moving even before she found her voice. "Stop- Stop!" she called, the first word coming out a little hoarse, taken aback, before she repeated with more force. "Wands up, Everly is out!" She waved the nearby healers forward to transport the Gryffindor girl off the stage, her own gaze caught on her. What had just happened? Dee had, on occasion, felt slightly bad about knocking out her opponents (not she had done so all that often so far), not least Lydia herself just a few months ago, but never to an extent where she would willingly catch a spell for them. Not even if she were facing a friend; possibly not even for her partner. Had it perhaps been an accident - had her own spell sent Everly stumbling into Lamik's attack? It seemed unlikely, but which explanation didn't?
Taking a deep breath, Dee refocused on the duel. And what a curious duel this was; perhaps she had misjudged both side's chances of winning... but then, who could have foreseen this?
"Continue!" she gave the signal to the remaining duellists.

Having failed to hit twice already with the same spell and on fire, Lea decided that the fire was more important- she was a lot more likely to actually cast and hit unlike the nimble lions. The Extinguishing Charm was relatively easy, a quick cast to dissipate the flames without more harm to the hufflepuff. And this time the smoke wasn't there to stop Lea from noticing the spell headed her way. She ducked the spell, a smile at her success before the second year noticed what all had happened.
The spell had been heading towards Lydia, right? She was sure of it, and yet it seemed as though Everly had taken the full blow instead. It stunned the duellist- especially when it was called by the referee, verifying what she had seen. It was a success for the hufflepuffs, sure, but Lea had no clue how they had gotten it. Still, she couldn't let herself get distracted- the gryffindor had spell spread, a really powerful ability that leveled the playing fields despite being a 2 v 1. Just- keep going. The hufflepuff could find answers later.

Everly was cursed. Or jinxed. Or hexed. Or poisoned. Or drunk. Or all of them. She simply had to be for anything to make sense. Her spell backfired on her, she was hit by a small bolt of lightning, and then she jumped in front of Lamiks spell again. What in the hell was going on?

Despite the smoke being gone from the platform, it seemed like Lydia couldn't hit Lamik with her spell; a small groan left her lips as she saw Lamik dodge out of the way, as she started feeling frustrated with herself. During the summer she would really need to improve her aim skills, otherwise duelling would become quite difficult.
Of course, Lydia knew that Lamik was a strong opponent, and not just because of his skill of dodging spells; once again she saw him casting a spell towards her and Lea, but once again she didn't have to worry about dodging, because Everly jumped in front of the spell for her right after accidentally hitting herself with her spell. Lydia stared at the scene in front of her with a surprised look on her face, not expecting for that to happen again any time soon, let alone in the very same duel; perhaps Everly was more susceptible to her Veela charm, who really knew?
What mattered was that they were now facing "just" Lamik, and hopefully things would have kept going well for her and Lea; they needed to stay focused, and give it their best.Action: Doing as strategised

For a moment after Everly was taken off the stage, the duel seemed to slow down a little. Rather than damaging spells, both sides chose to attempt to influence the field in their favour; some with more success than others.
Lydia attempted a spell that Dee herself had learned that year, and she raised a hand to shield her eyes, expecting a blinding bright light - but none came. She blinked, frowning. The cast must have gone wrong, perhaps the spell not quite mastered yet. Meanwhile, Lea targeted Lamik with a well-cast levitation charm, attempting to inhibit his movement. It was a close one, but once again, Lamik proved too slippery to get a hold of.
Finally, Lamik repeated what Everly had done earlier, covering the stage in a cloud of smoke that made Dee sneeze and her eyes water. It also made it terribly hard to see, and she wondered how Lamik himself managed to get an advantage from this. But then, some people seemed to be eerily good at navigating even with their sense of sight impaired (a skill she dearly envied).
Dealla hummed to herself, nodding. Just because he was now one against two did not mean that Lamik was to be underestimated. It was going to be a tough fight, either way.
