Despite the slightly messy actually office space turned storage, the main desk in the classroom is quite tidy. Farron might be found here working on the next lesson plan, grading, or reading to pass the time. During her office hours the door to the Astronomy Tower would be unlocked and open for any student to come and talk to her. If she was unavailable outside of the office hours the door would be shut and locked (and no, a simple unlocking charm will not unlock it). These office hours also function as extra study hours for students, however they still had to be in their rooms by curfew.

Students would have to check in with Farron as they arrived for extra study, just so she knew who was there and could keep track of everyone who had been in and out of the tower just in case anything ended up broken or missing. If the students wanted to use the study area as a quiet and cozy place to study for other subjects that was also fine, but she would be a lot less competent with helping with those subjects. During these office hours she would be available for curriculum help, questions about her, questions about astronomy in general, really the sky (or the galaxy really) was the limit. There were expectations that cushions, desks, books, anything that students used during their time there would be returned as they left to help Farron keep the space ready for classes. This was not a place to practice spells since she can't directly supervise that, rather a place for book studying and essay writing.

For any student that would approach Professor Farron they would be greeted with a wide smile and a "You alright there? What do you need?" If they needed a private space to talk she would take them to the back of the room if other students were present. For reasons to approach her, it can be about class, Hogwarts, her past, Astronomy in general, wanting to ask advice, as long as there is a conversation topic in mind you can talk to her about anything really. It doesn't have to be course related.

☽︎ OOC RULES
 • Any thread with Professor Horne must be dated after 23 March, 2022 as that's when she became employed by the school.
 • Only one student posting in this thread at a time. There will be a clear indicator in this post at the top whether the desk is open or closed, and at the end of the interaction it will be clearly stated that the desk is open again.
 • If a student hasn't posted within a month of my post, it'll be said that they left and the desk will open again.
 • If you'd like to meet with her outside of office hours, please owl me for a separate thread. This is for posts that occur only during her office hours.
 • Pets are allowed during office hours so long as they are not disruptive to the environment or instruments. If you know they'll wander and cause chaos, please leave them in your dorm.
 • Feel free to use the hours at the top as a reference for when you'd like to RP in the Astronomy Tower to study, you do not need to post here to check in with her if that's what you'd like your thread to be. In your studying thread, you're allowed to lightly godmod Professor Horne checking you in (no dialogue).
 • If you have any questions about RPing here, please feel free to owl me!

Logan slowly made her way up the steps to the Astronomy tower. She had heard earlier that there was a new Astronomy professor and was excited to meet them as Astronomy was one of her favorite subjects. It was a long walk from the Hufflepuff common room to the Astronomy tower, but Logan needed her exercise for the day anyway.

Carefully the girl walked into the Astronomy classroom, smiling softly at how quiet yet beautiful the room was. Astronomy was something that was a large part of the Hufflepuff's life and she enjoyed school so she wanted to make a good impression on the new professor. Glancing around the room, she spotted the professor and made her way towards her, tugging softly on her sweater sleeves as she went. She had changed out of her school robes and was now wearing a simple sweater and jeans to keep herself warm in the cool night air.

The brunette was not expecting for the professor to ask her what she needed and she smiled softly. "I just wanted to welcome you to Hogwarts. I'm Logan Baird ma'am," she introduced herself with a soft smile on her face as she hesitantly held her hand out for the professor to shake if she really wanted to. She was not sure if the professor would shake her hand or not.

Farron wasn't expecting many people to show up to her office hours at first. She was new and scary and the students still needed to get used to her. It just gave her extra time to continue to tinker with the classroom setup and work on reviewing the lesson plans that had been previously outlined. There was a steep learning curve to becoming a professor at Hogwarts, but she knew it would be and she was only excited by the mental challenge.

On this day she was rearranging her desk for the... well, to be honest she had lost count of how many times it had been rearranged at this point. It didn't do her any good as it only made things harder to find during class. She was wearing comfortable but professional clothing. She walked around a lot during class and didn't like to have her movement restricted. A white sweater was tucked into a light pair of jeans, paired with navy oxford shoes. Her curls were half pulled up, leaving the rest to bounce around her shoulders.

She almost looked shocked when she heard someone walk into the office, eyes widening in delight in surprise. She met the young girl in the middle, not wanting to make her walk all the way up to her desk area. The poor girl probably wasn't expecting the intense handshake she received, but Farron was a person that expressed her joy outwardly, sometimes at the expense of other people's arms. "Well aren't you a sweetie. I'm Professor Horne, but you probably knew that already. Or Professor Farron if you'd like, I really don't mind either one." Her hands came up to rest on her hips. "Feel free to look around the room, the books and all that while you're here. Let me ask you, actually, is there anything you feel like is missing in the tower? Anything you wished was here? A student perspective might help my redecorating."

The room had been altered to remove the desks and have the cushions as the main seating for the class, knick knacks filling the shelves, bins full of comfort items for students at the bottom of them.

Everly let out another puff of air as she made her way up the Astronomy Tower's steps. Figures that it would be heavy to carry herself, her bags, and her cat up, she thought begrudgingly. Perhaps she should've thought this through before making such an abrupt decision, but it was Friday night and she was in the mood to study under the stars. She hadn't personally met Hogwarts' new Astronomy professor (well, new in the sense that it'd been well over a month since she joined) before, either, so it was a win-win.

With a grumble, she finally spotted the top of the stairs and the entryway into the tower. Everly supposed it made sense that the Astronomy Tower would be so high, but she never enjoyed the climb. It had been well over a year, and she was still not a fan. The subject itself was also not among her strengths, though she wasn't exactly failing. Either way, Everly had never really formed an opinion on Astronomy. Her past Astronomy professors were a blur of names and faces, as she'd never made a huge effort to talk with them before. This was a first.

"Finally," Everly said as she dropped Tzahala, who let out a sudden yelp, meowing at her owner distastefully, before stalking over to some pillows, on which she curled into a little, furry ball. She glanced around the room, finding an empty desk that looked suitable. "Good evening, Miss Professor Farron!" she said cheerfully as she spread her books over the table, making a mental list of the homework she had yet to finish. A Potions essay, she noted, as well as—ah, perfect for the occasion—some Astronomy homework that she'd left unfinished. Everly had done about half of it before heading to the Great Hall for dinner, figuring it could wait. Then, it had gotten lost among the rest of her books and papers as she shoved it carelessly into her bag. "How was your day?" she'd say, some mindless chatter that came with new greetings as she reached for her inkpot.

Farron had been working on grading some homework as students came in and out during the study hours. There still weren't many that were attending, but there were a few and to her that meant the effort was a success. It also gave her extra dedicated time to work which she could sometimes struggle with. Now that she was a Professor there were other students relying on her getting her job done in a timely manner so they could know how they were doing. Late returns simply wouldn't do.

Her attention was pulled by hearing the yelp of a cat. She didn't allow pets during class, but during study hours they seemed to be helpful for some students in their effort to study. Having a non-judgmental companion could do wonders. Farron's personal pet, Stinkbug, was skittering around her office area that she had turned into a ferret den. She watched as a new arrival took her place at a desk and Farron grabbed the sign-in sheet before walking over to the girl.

"Good evening to you! And Miss or Professor is just fine. No need for both titles. Makes me sound too fancy." As the girl pulled out her inkwell she put the sign-in sheet on the desk, a sneaky way to get student's names without having to ask. "Mind signing in for me really quick? As for my day, it's going fairly well. Getting work done just as same as you. How are you? What are the plans for homework tonight?" Her eyes glanced over to the kitty who had happily curled up. "And what's the cutie's name over there?"

June hesitated for a moment outside the door of the Astronomy Tower. She looked down at the small bouquet of flowers clutched in her left hand, and the book in her right, both wrapped with thin gold ribbon. The flowers did look a bit pathetic in June's opinion, she had picked them earlier in the day and they weren't as perky as she wished they were. But the flowers were the first thing she thought of when she decided she wanted to thank her favourite professor. The Tales of Thundelarra, her father's first book. His own imagining of the founding of the Australian quidditch team and the town that didn't believe in them. The story was a tad cheesy, June would only admit to herself, but the descriptions of the protagonist flying through the night sky were truly captivating. Phinehas Selwyn's strength truly was in writing action and adventure.

Her grasp tightened around the book. It seemed appropriate to gift her Australian professor a book set in her own country. June wondered if Professor Horne sometimes missed home. June certainly did, and her home was only in Newcastle. Being a whole ocean away from everything familiar... It sounded terrifying.

June took a deep breath, stepped inside, and walked up to Professor Horne.

"Good evening, Professor!" She held out her small gifts, slightly embarrassed. She hadn't thought this far ahead in her plan. She rocked back and forth on her heels for a moment, unsure of what to say."Um.. These are for you."

With summer coming up, Farron felt a bit overwhelmed with trying to get everything wrapped up properly and making sure her students were prepared for the final exams and essays that were impending or already in progress. Her hair which she couldn't be bothered with had been thrown up on top of her head wrapped in a messy, but still professional, bun. Stacks of papers seemed to exponentially grow and pots of quill ink were constantly running dry. She truly did miss muggle pens on occasion.

Her doors were still open for study hours however, and she tried to keep the stress wrapped up neatly underneath the anxiously beating heart. Her head popped up at the sweet greeting of a student. "Good evenin' to you June!" Farron took an extra beat to realize the flowers and wrapped gift she had, those didn't look like study materials but perhaps it was for Herbology? But much to her surprise, they were for her.

"For- For me?" Her hands reached out and gently took the objects. She couldn't help but be slightly bewildered. In a time where she was piling on the work on the students it seemed bizarre to give a gift. "You're such a sweetie, my goodness. The flowers look beautiful, I'll have to find a nice vase for these to be put into."

She set them aside to gently unwrap the ribbon from the book, treating it as if it could shatter at any moment. "The Tales of Thundelarra? By a... Phinehas Selwyn? Would you two happen to be related?" At this point she had a good amount of first and last names memorized, thank goodness. She thumbed through it, excited to read it no matter what it was about. "Thank you so much June, I appreciate you thinking about me." Her cheeks might just fall off from how wide she was smiling.

Embarrassment? No, not quite. June couldn't quite find a word for it, but it's the same feeling one has when people sing "happy birthday" to you. An awkward sort of happiness or pride that has no outlet. June stood there, rocking on the balls of her feet as Professor Horne took and opened her gifts.

"You're welcome! It's just..." June took a deep breath. It wasn't like her to be flustered like this. Pull it together, Selwyn, she's just a professor, it's not like you're talking to the Minister of Magic or something. In, out. June shook her head softly, as if to physically clear out her thoughts.

"You've been such a wonderful professor while you've been here. Your homework is always thoughtful and helpful, you make learning fun and inviting, and your classroom is by far the prettiest. But I suppose that isn't entirely up to you," June laughed softly. "I just wanted to thank you, that's all. This class has made my year a lot more bearable.. ."

A wide grin speed across June's face as Professor Horne flipped through the book. "Yes, we are! He's my father, this is his first book. It's about the Australian quidditch team, the Thundelarras Thunderers? I had an extra copy with me, and thought you would enjoy a little taste of home. Do you miss it, home? Sorry, I suppose that's a bit of a personal question. Anyways, the book is quite good, but it's not his best work. Ooo, please don't tell him I said that. Still, my favourite chapter is when the lead character is flying through the night sky, and my father has the most beautiful description of the stars, and then-" June caught herself rambling. "Sorry, I guess I shouldn't give away the whole plot of the book if you're wanting to read it." She could feel her face flush, she wasn't sure if this was better or worse than fumbling through her words.
