Crafting Table
The wooden stall that had been carefully constructed in one corner of the courtyard, right by the entrance doors and surrounded by tables and chairs for students who would care to rest their feet from the dancing and merriment of the rest of the celebration, would not be a quiet place necessarily, but it would certainly be one of the most relaxing places in the outdoor area, away from the frenzy and excitement of the bonfire, with the merry music of the quartet all the way across the courtyard and fading beautifully into background tunes.
This would be a place for artists, for dreamers, for those for whom imagination cared to run wild; instead of dancing with feet or talking with faces, the craft corner would be a place to work with one's hands, creating out of the pre-provided supplies beautiful accessories for students to wear around the festival. Of course, this place would not nearly be as quiet as perhaps some would expect a craft corner to be — not with Aly Salinger at its helm, as she would bustle about chattering to just about anyone who would listen as she finished setting up. An older student who had volunteered to assist her in the craft corner, promising that he would stay all night to let the Ravenclaw enjoy the festival as well, would roll his eyes, already tired of the younger girl's talk. The two would work together as the celebration began, finishing organising the supplies into beautiful table decorations in their own right.
And oh, how many supplies there would be, with all of these possibilities of creations that would stretch out before the students' very eyes!
First and foremost, what kind of a celebration would this be without the opportunity to hide one's identity from the prying eyes of others? The mask supplies would be there to resolve this issue, with normally-shaped eye masks to hide only the top half of one's face to dozens of different animal shapes from which those in need of facial privacy would be able to choose. These colourful masks, with all their choices, would not simply be plain and universal for all; no, glass jars filled with decorations would be found round the piles of masks, everything from feathers to small jewels to, of course, flowers and flower petals galore. Small bottles of a sticky Muggle contraption called "glue" would be nearby as well, for use in sticking these decorations to the masks. Anyone in need of a disguise would have the opportunity to decorate a mask as they so chose and wear it as necessary around the rest of the celebration.
The other portion of the craft corner would be Aly's personal favourite, as the table would be stocked high with flowers of all varieties. Front and center would sit various centerpieces of the visiting schools' nations' national flowers: roses for Bulgaria and the United States, mixed with cherry blossoms for Japan, surrounded by chamomile for Russia and the French fleur-de-lis, and, of course, topped off with Scotland's own thistle, its spiky lilac blooming beautifully amidst the other petals. Dozens of other blossoms, from white daisies and moly to violet bluebells and multicoloured tulips, would crowd the table until they were practically spilling off the booth's surface, each with long stems that would be able to be masterfully woven together to create flower crowns for one's head or chopped off to tuck behind one's ear. Aly would stand by at the ready, a few stems in her hand, for any who would need assistance in weaving these crowns.
All in all, this would be a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the rest of the celebration and enjoy a few quieter — or perhaps not-so-quiet — moments creating with one's hands. Aly would bounce up and down on her toes as students would begin to flood the courtyard, excited beyond belief for all of the creations she would be bound to see over the course of the afternoon...

OOC Information
At this booth, you may make yourself masks, flower crowns, or any other crafts you can think of with the supplies listed above (blank masks, mask decorations, and flowers). Creating things at the booth is an action, but you can make as many crafts as you like in the same action. This thread will only be moderated as needed.
For the masks: there are regular masquerade masks, and then there are animal-shaped ones. You are welcome to state that there is a blank mask for whatever animal you desire, with the exception of dragons — there are no dragon masks at the booth. You are also welcome to state that there are any decorations you desire, though the three that have already been stated are as follows: feathers, small jewels, and flowers.
For the flower crowns: you are welcome to say that Aly or the older-student-NPC help teach you how to weave a flower crown if you desire. For the purpose of this activity, you are welcome to say you find whatever flowers you want at the booth which you can use.

Some stories should never be told...

| ── | Perhaps it was a bit silly, but Draven had grown fond of making things with his hands. The hours spent carving a staircase into his bed for Deimos had proved as much. He'd ached all over after, but it had been a good kind of pain. His back hurting meant he'd brought beauty into the world, his fingers stiff and cold signifying he'd done something useful. It was a real, tangible proof of his time, of his effort. More than a mark on a parchment paper, more than a well written essay on the gargoyle wars.
So when he found himself wondering towards the crafts table, it was with a brief sense of excitement. Something in his chest was glowing warmly as he sat down carefully, unbuttoning his coat so it wouldn't look weird. He worked slowly. Painting the mask black, giving it several coats so that there would be none of the monotone gray peaking through at the end. By the end of it, several dirty brushes had been lined up neatly beside him. All different sizes of course. The flat, large ones for the front and the fine ones for filling in the tiny details. Getting the black paint in all the mask's groves and ridges. As a kid, he'd spent many hours marveling at the way his mother painted. Sitting on the floor of her art studio, watching as she captured life onto a canvas. Some said that Iris Mirador could trap your soul onto paper, that with every stroke of her brush she stole away a bit of your heart. People from all over the world bought her paintings for astronomical prices. Her art hung in museums and galleries. Draven couldn't paint like that. It was a foolish expectation really, the boy was only 12. But he could at least try and do a neat job. So he sat there. For hours. Painstakingly gluing black feathers to the mask, brows furrowed in concentration, lip caught between his teeth absentmindedly. He was bent over the table, sleeves carefully pulled back least paint would get on a 50g Heather Gray coat. The mask wasn't amazing at the end of the day. But it wasn't terrible either. When he shook it, nothing went flying off. Whatever noxious fumes had emanated from the paint, they'd dissipated in the fresh afternoon air. It was amazing, how calm he felt afterwards. Whatever thoughts had been clouding his head had vanished, leaving nothing behind but a sense of peace. He felt...happy. As dusk was settling over the courtyard and stars started blinking in the sky. Working quietly, watching the mask take shape under his hands...there was an easy sense of satisfaction that came from that. Reducio ![]() |

They moved from the people-packed Great Hall to the quieter Courtyard, straight to the Crafting Table. Marius was not the kind of person who was good with their hands or interested in art and craft, but earlier today he had got the impression that Annie really would like to pay a visit to this table, and he did not want to be selfish. He himself had no idea what they should do either way, so really, there could be no harm spending some time in the art area. He figured that even if later he could not find anything interesting to create, he could just sit there and have a small talk with students who may be there.
As they approached the table, Marius could only see three kids. There was a boy who seemed rather familiar and two teenagers whom the Hufflepuff assumed were volunteers responsible for the specific area. The first year hoped the boy at the table would be available to chat with, and so to show his initiative of talking with him, Marius gave him a friendly smile.
Guiding Annie to the chair, he was ready to offer her any help she might ask. After she was settled, his soft brown eyes would survey the table, deciding if there was something he could try to create. At the end, he was settled for a wreath he would give to Danielle this Easter holiday. "She'd love it," he thought. "I'm sure she would, even though she can't say it to me."

Vienna had to admit. She was a bit relieved when Edme agreed to head over to the crafting table. She needed a break from the crowd. Though she was quite the social butterfly and extrovert, crowds got overwhelming sometimes. Plus, it would be nice to get some fresh air and spend some quiet time with Edme.
Before the two left, they continued to converse. "Yeah, I can tell," she laughed as Edme spoke about their fondness for the color brown. "It suits you though, don't worry. It really is your color. And trust me, I mean it," she smiled. She continued on about the school's decorations, making a comparison to muggle schools. "Oh, really?" She laughed. "I never went to muggle school. Or any school, really," she shrugged. "But I'd take muggle school over my homeschooling lessons any day. We didn't have any parties," she scoffed. "But yeah, floating candles are very interesting," she nodded, giggling.
Vienna nodded as they agreed to leave for the crafting table. However, before they left, Vienna attempted to get a look at the chaos enduring at the celebration. Were they having a food fight? Vienna's eyes widened with interest. That looked fun. Unfortunately, she'd have to resist. Gen would kill her if she got even the slightest stain on her dress.
They finally reached the crafting table, Vienna's eyes taking a moment to observe all the supplies. She looked up, surveying her surroundings. The area seemed pretty empty, other than a few other students, including the two notably older volunteers. Vienna looked back down at the supplies. There were plain masks, masquerade ones and some animal ones, decorations for said masks, and flowers. Vienna paused, wondering what she should craft first. Masks were tempting. They were pretty cool, the animal ones especially. But the thing that really caught her eye was something else.
Running her hands through the flowers, Vienna was hit with nostalgia. She remembered the peaceful afternoons in the Goodwin Manor Garden, weaving flower crowns with Theo. She was only five, but she could remember how much she enjoyed it. After she lost him, she continued on with the tradition, weaving flower crowns under the shade of the big oak tree. But lately, she had been falling out of the hobby. Perhaps now was her time to engage in it again.
Reaching out, she grabbed a handful of white flowers. She was no expert in flower types, but she didn't really mind. They were all equally as pretty and good smelling. She began weaving them together, the movements practically engraved as an instinct in her brain. She finally finished, holding it up. She nodded, a look of satisfaction on her face.
She turned to Edme, the crown clutched tightly in her hands. "Hey! I made you this," she showed her with a grin. "I thought it matched your dress. And blazer. There were no brown flowers but I thought the white complimented it," she shrugged with a smile.

Crafting Table
Annie was hit with a happy and relieved sigh as soon as she was met with the fresh, not tense or humid air of the ball room and instead the nice breeze of the Courtyard. She'd let out a content hum just before a cold bit of wind hit her and her arm hairs spiked up. O-kay maybe they'd just do something real quick and head back inside if this chilly weather kept up. Then again you couldn't blame the weather as it was only the beginning of April.
She let out a small smile noticing the quietness besides a bit of fiddling with scraps around her signifying other people were also at the table. Feeling the chair in front of her get pulled out she'd step to the side as to not have it jam into her hip. Feeling the armrests, she'd lower herself into the chair and get comfy. Annie clasped her hands together and turned to where Marius had taken a seat next to her, hearing the shifting in his posture.
"Alright, I am going to make you a flower crown with whatever materials my hands touch. You better wear it with pride no matter how ugly it looks!" She'd scold him, wagging a finger in front of him, a smirk playing on her lips. Her hand reached out to the table, feeling a bunch of feathers in front of her and taking a few small ones she'd intertwine them in a circular twig based crown already formed in her. She went with the twig base versus perhaps a stem or leafy base which wouldn't made his head look like a bush.
Annie laughed lightly at the thought. She paused and lifted her head lightly to peer over at Marius. "Tell me something about yourself, your family, how you are faring with school or what not." A small interested smile appeared on her lips, wanting to actually get to know her so-called date instead of just dragging him around for the night. She'd continue to work on the flower crown .Her hand reached out to grab some flowers in the center of the table, tucking dried bundles and winding them into the crown. The brunette's face would scrunch up in concentration and finally she'd choose two bigger flowers to place in the center of the crown. Running her hand lightly across the flower crown to not crush any of the work she had just done. She'd nod her head in approval before turning to Marius' direction or at least where he should be.
"Alright mister lower your head, let's see how it looks on you." She'd wait for him to do as she said, a smile tugging on her lips. "It feels like I'm crowning a king." The brunette laughed lightly. "Did you make anything, perhaps for a special someone?" She wriggled her eyebrows playfully before she contemplated making one for herself.

Edme held the dress up a bit above her ankles, trying not to step on the flowy skirt as the two made their way to the crafting table.
"Thank you- And I'm not just saying the green looks good because of your house. I mean, not to say you had suspected that, I just mean- y'know, Slytherin? Green? I don't know." The Ravenclaw realized quickly they were rambling, and shut up to let the other speak. "Oh, yeah, it wasn't much. Just Christmas parties and such."
Edme took slight notice of Vienna's either intrigue or surprise- they weren't quite sure which- at the chaos that persisted in the Great Hall. She hoped silently that it wasn't a burden for the other to take a detour over to the crafts table, but really who didn't enjoy a bit of tranquil crafting?
The table held fairly standard crafts items, hence the name, though with Hogwarts it was difficult to tell what was usual and what was a little more abnormal. The few people that were lightly dotted around the area were clearly more focused on their own activities, some of their creations quite impressive. Supplies were strewn out as neatly as possible, flowers that seemed more natural than those you would find in nature, and all the kinds of tiny to big decorations were piled tidily into glass jars.
Vienna was quick to get to work, setting off a reaction from Edme to find something to do with their hands. Flower crowns were simple and sweet, but as the Ravenclaw had found before, she couldn't help but go a bit over the top with the provided art projects the school often threw at them. Piling up a few green flowers, white gems, and a bit of light green tulle, she began trying to piece together a creative yet maintained flower crown.
They had only learned to weave together the stems a couple of summers ago, a younger foster sibling taking the time to sloppily teach the older how to make a quick dandelion chain. It was only now that they had to wrack their brain for that knowledge to come back.
After working her hands for a few moments, they looked up at Vienna's words and looked at the nice flower crown admiringly. She carefully took it into their hands, ogling it. They were, admittedly, quite touched. "Wow Vienna, it's beautiful." she smiled, placing it carefully on their somewhat collected hair, "You got that done quickly. Thank you, I really appreciate it. It's lovely."
Edme looked down at the flower crown falling apart below her, a messy pile of failed green flowers. "I uh- wanted to give you this but it's..." they searched for the right words, "hit a bump."

"I'd certainly treasure it," Marius responded to Annie making him a flower crown. He did not, however, make any promise to her about wearing it. For him, flower crowns were for ladies; the mere idea of him putting it on was enough to make the first year blushed. All right, maybe it was cute for little boys as well, but at twelve he definitely was no longer a child.
Admiring how the fourth year's sensitive fingers touched the soft materials and thoroughly weaved them into a crown, the younger Hufflepuff was in such awe that he could not speak for a brief moment. Once overcoming the surprise though, he agreed to fulfil the brunette's request. "Alright, I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours as well," he said with a smile. He trusted his senior to keep that as a promise, and thus began telling her some general information about his family.
"Mum and Dad are both full-time farmers," he told her. "I'm the eldest kid in our family. My first brother, Alberto, he's one perfect boy. He's so well-mannered, and everyone can see how handsome he is I sometimes think it's unfair. There's also another little brother, Max. He has hair as black as a raven, the colour of Alberto's. We have a baby sister too, Danielle. But she left us last... July." A slight pause, and then Marius added with a slightly-forced gayness, "We're expecting another, though. But everyone decides to wait until the big moment to find out if it's a girl or a boy."
Turned out, it was not long before Annie finished her flower crown. She asked Marius to lower down his head so she could put it on his head as if she crowned a king, resulting in his laughter. He obeyed, even though he quickly took it off again; he regretted not having a satchel with him where he could store the new crown. He was careful enough not to make any sound, for he did not want her to hear it and felt hurt.
The fourth year asked if he too was making something with the flowers and other materials, so he honestly answered, "I'm making a wreath for Danielle. I want to... give it to her this upcoming Easter break. I imagine she'll happily play with it even if we can't see her doing so." He did not know why suddenly this made him sad, but he did not want to spoil this night - a night that was supposed to be a gay one. The young Hufflepuff thus fell silent, hoping that he would not shed any tear if he spoke nothing more about his sister.

Hunter thought of his family before he crafted his mask. He told Judith a wolf mask was probably the most interesting idea he could come up with. Still, though, was a wolf really that unique? Hunter looked around and witnessed a couple of students leave or be in the middle of crafting rather bland or flamboyant-looking masks. A few rabbits, cats, and a couple of wolves. Even though the wolf had a unique relationship with Hunter's family and he had a liking for wolfsbane, it didn't seem unique enough to him.
He tried to think of ways to put a spin on his mask, but he wasn't quite sure. Perhaps a more unique style in art... Well, Hunter wasn't the best with creative drawing. His artistic skills had improved tremendously while he spent time at Hogwarts, but he wasn't that great of an artist. The majority of Hunter's drawings were anatomical and drawn based on his own observations. Being creative and free-thinking wasn't his strong suit. He gave it more thought and tried to come up with fun ideas.
His mind ran for a bit, and it came to the thought of his pet lizard, Fenrir. The tiny lizard was back in the Ravenclaw common room, but Hunter named the tiny lizard after the Norse mythological wolf. Fenrir was known to be a child of Loki, the trickster god. He was also noted of being massive in size, and would one day eat Odin when the world would come to an end. Creating a mask with Norse symbols sounded interesting, but then another idea came to Hunter. Speaking of Norse gods, what about Egyptian gods? The history and myths of beliefs in certain gods and pantheons were so interesting to Hunter. He hadn't thought much about the Egyptian pantheon, but the thought of creating a mask that resembled a jackal sounded rather fun (In honor of Anubis). Grabbing a black mask Hunter then proceeded to tear the petals of multiple colored flowers. Gluing, tearing, rearranging, and cutting multiple petals to fit the shape/decoration of the mask.
After the mask, Hunter still had to create a flower crown for Judith. Looking around, he could see that many other students were offering and creating crowns for each other. The question was what colors and flowers to use. Giving it some thought, he decided upon white roses since they were the color and flower that they talked about before. However, would white be that great of a color? Would it match Judith's dress and would it have that much meaning? Hunter searched for a bit and came upon some flowers that fit perfectly for what he intended. With some help from an upper student, he began to weave a flower crown for Judith. The only issue, was as he left out one flower before completing it.

Was there some hesitance to Marius sharing about his family? She had just tried to start a conversation and alas her attempt was poor. Having her lips sealed in a tight, hopefully content and not awkward look she'd nod her head listening to his words. Pausing she'd ask him a few small questions. "Oh your family is Muggle-born? That's quite cool." Annie replied before her heart stilled as he explained his brothers and his sister who had passed. The color drained from her face rather quickly and she'd reach out to grasp his hands in hers, swiping her thumb over his knuckles. Crap! I'm sorry I didn't know- there was no way I would've known- Annie you are such an idiot!" She scolded herself mentally, or what she thought was mentally but it came out in a harsh whisper, an angered look on her face as her brows creased in thought.
Her thoughts got broken out as Marius replied to her previous question about if he was making anything and he replied a wreath for Danielle, his sister. A small smile graced her lips, it was one of sorrow but it was genuine. "That's really nice of you Marius, I'm sure she will appreciate it." She held onto his hands still, giving them a light squeeze under the table.
To break it up she'd remove her hands lightly from covering his and let out a long sigh. "Alright, I'll keep my promise and tell you about my family mm?" She raised a brow. "Let's see where to begin.. Well I'm a Half-blood. Mom's a witch, dad's a muggle. I live in Bray, Ireland it's a bit far so I don't always visit during the breaks. Lots of small little shops around with cool stuff in them, maybe if you're nice to me I can bring you something back." Annie laughed lightly, an attempt to relieve tension. "Oh right, got sidetracked.. I don't have any siblings so that's cool I guess? And if you are prepared for a long story I can tell you how I became blind, yes it was family related so I'm not going off topic again."
She grinned lightly, a pang deep in her gut about sharing her life-changing event with another person. A few knew the whole story but mostly she just referred to it as an accident if others asked, which it technically was. Rising from the table, she pushed back her chair and offered her hand to Marius. "Let's find a good place to store our little gifts and get back to the ball, I can tell you there while we awkwardly wiggle to some weird music." The brunette hummed, hoping to redeem herself and get rid of the lingering thoughts Marius or herself might have.

Crafting Table
✿✿✿
The crafting table was bustling now, Aly's pride and joy filled with all sorts of students of varying ages and Houses who seemed keen on constructing lovely accessories for their outfits. From a feathered black mask that resembled a crow or perhaps a raven to a flower-covered black-and-gold jackal mask... a blue-and-white flower crown with spiky gold sprigs, a crown of white roses, another of more white... Aly was so engrossed in watching her peers weave their own creations that she nearly forgot to make one of her own.
Nearly being the key word there.
The curly-haired Ravenclaw had composed a very specific look for the Midspring Celebration, all based off of the gown she'd been able to acquire from Hogsmeade earlier in the year. It was some new release from Gladrags called the "Gown of the Seasons", and apparently, it changed colours and looks every season - and since it was spring at the moment, the dress was this lovely shade of light pink, with a halter collar around her neck and corset laced around her waist. Of course, the best part - in Aly's opinion - was the constantly falling cherry blossom petals from the hem, leaving a trail of pastel pink petals wherever she moved. Seeing as how she'd known the theme of a spring masquerade quite a bit ahead of time, having been one of the planning students, Aly had also acquired her mask ahead of time so as to not spend much time making it here at the craft corner - it was a lacy metallic pink, with some gaps open to reveal her pale freckled skin and green eyes underneath, but with others covered underneath by a darker pink silk. It molded perfectly to her face, and Aly had accessorized with lines of tiny pink daisies and petite sprays of baby's breath woven into her curly hair, which had been half-pulled back to keep it out of her face. Finally, the look had topped off with low pink heels that were so pale so as to almost be white.
Aly had never really worn heels before, only flats - but she was thirteen now, nearly fourteen, and she'd managed to persuade her mother Hesper to send her a pair by reminding her that Hesper had likely begun to wear the more "grown-up" shoes at her age. The real reason, auspiciously left out of her carefully penned letter to her mother, was that Aly's date to this shebang was quite a bit taller than her, and a pair of heels was the perfect solution to that problem.
Her date.
She still couldn't believe she had a date to this; her friend - because he was still her friend, even if she had recently realised she was harboring a bit of a fancy for him at this point - Aaron had asked her to go with him, even though she was part of the planning committee and so... therefore... would already have been going. The gesture had been inordinately sweet, and now whenever Aaron's face slipped into the Ravenclaw's mind, it was always met with a skipping of her heart and a rising of a rosy blush to her cheeks - even more so than usual. He fancied her, too. It was more than she could have ever hoped for for her first real crush. And now she was going to meet him, here, as his date, somewhere in the courtyard, as they'd promised.
Which meant that - even though she already had woven flowers into her hair - she still had to make her crown, and quickly, so that she'd have time to meet her date.
Aly scanned the table for what seemed like the millionth time to assess the flower situation. They truly had just about every blossom and bloom known to man, from roses to hyacinths to daisies that matched the ones already in her hair, and the number of combinations running through Aly's head was likely higher than the numbers of individual flowers on the crafting table - nay, in the courtyard in its entirety. What do I wear to say, hey, I fancy you, can't think of you without my heart skipping, care for a dance? Eventually, her hands moved forward as if they had minds of their own, setting down the flowers she'd been holding in case anyone needed help with crown-weaving, her fingers reaching for pink roses of two different shades - sweetness, admiration, perhaps a crush, not that he'll know the meanings... hopefully - as well as a handful of white daisies (innocence - that one's an easy one) for an accent. Skillfully, her years of practice showing, Aly kept their stems long, braiding them together into a flower crown that she then settled softly onto her head. None of the roses perfectly matched her dress or her shoes, but that didn't matter. The fact that Aly was wearing pink and not blue was a miracle in and of itself.
At the last moment, Aly snatched an extra pink rose off of the table and tucked it loosely between her crown and head for easy access. Sweetness and admiration were exactly what she felt for Aaron, and giving him a flower representative of those qualities was sure to bring that handsome smile to his face.
Glancing at the older student who had volunteered to help her at the craft corner, Aly gave him a sheepish smile. "Not to leave you here, but I've got a - er - a friend to meet," she apologised. "I'll be back later, I promise - I've full faith in you to run this thing!"
With that, she hurried off, eyes scanning the courtyard. Surely Aaron would be around here somewhere...

For Paragon of Health purposes, Aly's "allies" throughout the ball are defined as @Aaron Jones and @Dealla Prince. Just in case!Action: making herself a flower crown
Free Action: leaving thread, heading into the rest of the courtyard
