The library was never really Vienna's thing. She had heard stories about how libraries were wonderful places of imagination and learning. She didn't really see it if she was gonna be honest. Maybe reading was the real problem. She didn't really see all the hype about reading.

But the library could be used for other things. Doodling, napping, planning elaborate revenge plots. Or Vienna's favorite pastime, sneaking up on unsuspecting book readers. And so that was what Vienna was doing that fine afternoon.

The weather had been a bit gloomy, much too rainy and cold to do her usual weekend adventuring. So she'd just have to come up with alternatives. She sat a table, her upper body sprawled across it as she tapped her fingers on the wood. She sighed, groaning as her eyes gazed around the library. She really hated the feeling of being bored. She felt as if she had freetime at all the wrong moments. Where was this boredom when she had piles of homework to do?

She looked around, watching as people flipped through their books. How did they find little words on a paper so interesting? Vienna begged for the ability. It would be so convient to have the ability to whip out a small, portable book when you were in need for entertainment. Vienna's preffered methods entertainment were much harder to find, and very much not portable. It was usually setting things on fire.

But as her eyes were mindlessly skimming the library's inhabitants, her eyes fell upon a certain somebody. Well, not exactly. More like the book. Then the person.

Vienna had always had a thing for animals. Sure, she was exposed to them that much. Her grandmother hated them. She made sure there were never any animals in the vicinity of the Goodwin household, so perhaps she couldn't really be talking. But from her experiences with the colorful songbirds that made their way into the manor's household or the small mice that would run through the walls and cracks of the house, she felt an instant connection. They interested her, the topic drawing her in like a moth to a flame. So she decided to approach the boy.

She made her way towards his table, creeping up behind him. He seemed concentrated as he read his book. Perhaps the topic interested him just as much as Vienna. Possibly even more. Finally, she spoke. "Whatchya reading?"

Felix let a scowl bloom across his unfairly pretty expression as he manually shredded the remains of his father’s letter, standing in the centre of the now deserted owlery. Resisting the urge to throw the pieces to the floor and stamp on them like an ill-behaved child, he scrunched the remains in his fist and stomped down the stairs with unnecessary force in each of his footsteps. Now, Felix could usually hold his temper, but when it came to his father, that was another story.

He paused only to swerve to the left and stride down the corridor before turning into the library. It would have been nice to say that the peaceful atmosphere of the library reduced his anger right away. However, Felix continued to fume his way to the back of the library, where he sat down, picked out a few books, and leaned back in his chair. In fact, it was only about half an hour later that his anger seemed to almost completely subside, and he found his ears had returned to their normal milky-tan complexion instead of a furious red, and his head was pounding a lot less now that he’d sat down. His vision slowly unclouded and for a brief moment, he blinked at the textbook he was reading. What the actual fuck was this? Ancient runes? Why the fuck had he picked this up? He temporarily remembered shouldering a bunch of random books from the shelf in his previous foggy anger and stood up to go dump them back to their respective places and look for something nice to read, now that he had calmed down.

Plants and animals were felix’s secret pleasure. He’d often spend a detrimental amount of his time researching various species of flora and fauna alike that interested him. Nobody knew of course, and for several reasons. Why if his father had so much of an inkling that his son spent his free time reading books on flowers, Felix didn't really know if he’d end up buried underground, or in a country on the opposite side of the world. Another reason why his love for such an unusual and soft thing was not to be broadcasted, was the fact that Felix was notorious for such cold hearted behaviour. He didn't smile, nor laugh. He never stopped to help people, he never spoke to them either. Unless it was to irritate them half to death. Felix liked it that way. He was confident and cocky and he didn't put up with such weak-minded people. He vaguely remembered how fellow first years had tried to talk to him on his first day. Unpleasant. He’d made sure they didn't bother to try to talk to him again. Harshly. It was clear that Felix hated people. His unhealthy amount of confidence and high ego meant that he couldn't let anyone know he had such an immense love for such a simple and soft thing. ‘Plants and flowers’ and ‘Felix Jeong’ rarely went together in the same sentence. How could something so lovely be associated with someone with such a foul attitude? The only thing lovely about him was how unquestionably handsome he was. He was indeed a beautiful sight to see, and many people had told him so.

Due to his tall stature, Felix had no problem grasping the few books he needed from the top shelf. He inwardly cringed at the dusty covers and brushed them off whilst holding them the furthest possible distance away from him as he could. Today it was mythical sea creatures. Sauntering back to his table, he spread his possessions as widely as he could, and laid back in his chair, his shiny hair flopping over his face as he intended to take up as much space as possible- hopefully deeming himself unapproachable. As he delved into the book, any outsider could have agreed how soft and peaceful he looked, pretty and, well, normal. No scowl, no smirk, no foul attitude or expression. Yes, when Felix was reading, it was a rare moment where he looked at peace, he looked happy and maybe that's what made him look so approachable at that moment, despite his efforts to keep people away.

"Whatchya reading?"

Felix jumped and spun around, jolting violently in his seat and smacking the unknown person in the face with his textbook.

Of course Vienna's plan backfired.

A smack to the face was never really all that enjoyable, but Vienna had surprisingly endured quite a few in her lifetime. Most of the time it was people getting sick of her. But this one was specifically unpleasant, thanks to two factors. One, it was a textbook. Textbooks were hard, full of useless pages that were full of meaningless words. Two, it was quite surprising. Vienna often knew when she was going to get hit. After spending years of pissing people off, she had learned to recognize the look people gave when they had enough. At least then she could brace the impact. But not this time. The book had come hurling at her in the blink of an eye, shooting a burning pain up her face, specifically her nose.

She winced, her hand immediately whipping up and clutching her nose. She swore quietly to herself, furrowing her brow. "Ow, ow, ow," she repeated, rubbing her nose. When the pain finally subsided, enough for it to be bearable, at least, she turned to her attacker. "Awh, what the hell mate? Is your immediate response to surprise just smacking people in the face?" She asked. Her tone was a bit more on the lighthearted side, but the tinge of aggressiveness couldn't be helped. She was just smacked in the face after all.

"Can I at least get an apology? That seriously hurt," she frowned. As she waited for the boy to respond, she took a moment to observe him. He looked about Vienna's age, maybe a bit older? A second year, perhaps? Yet, she didn't seem to recall seeing him around much. "Are you a second year?" She blurted, her curiosity getting the best of her. "What's your name?" She continued on with her wave of questions. She seemed to have a problem with that, not shutting up. Eh, she could worry about that later.

Before the boy could even answer, she proceeded on to the next topic. This time, it would be about his book. "You a big fan of sea creatures?" She asked teasingly, raising her eyebrows with a grin. "Mermaids and stuff?" She really didn't know what she was getting at. She enjoyed the topic just as much as this boy, yet, she found her tone a tad bit teasing.

"Is your immediate response to surprise just smacking people in the face?"

Felix couldn't believe the nerve of her to ask him such a question. He half shouted at her incredulously.

“Hell fuck no, you should be the one apologising to me you absolute prick. Do you find it entertaining to sneak up on people and scare them half to death. Not that I was scared, but in general.” Despite the malicious words he was spitting at her, the tips of his ears were flooded with colour, and his cheeks were dusted rosy pink with slight embarrassment.

He squinted his eyes at her as he noticed her stare, she was observing him. He opened his mouth to tell her to fuck off when-

“Are you a second year?”

“I should be.” He left it as that, no doubt entertaining her curiosity even further. Felix folded his arms over his chest, shooting her a vexed look. Why the fuck was he even bothering to respond to her. Maybe another slap with the textbook would send her away.

“What's your name?”

Felix huffed at the question, turning around fully in his seat to look at her.

“Felix.”

He didn’t bother to ask for hers. He didn't realise that as he’d turned, he’d exposed the pile of books he’d been buried into.

Once again, she bombarded him with another question. Felix felt like he was being cornered. Especially since he was sitting down, he couldn't establish his tall stature, he felt like she was looming over him and fought the urge to shove her away as his rosy cheeks stubbornly refused to fade. Fuck off. He was usually the person on the other end, he should be making her flustered, not the other way round. He didn’t like being on the receiving end of the teasing.

"Mermaids and stuff?"

If Felix’s cheeks had been tinted pink before, he was now sure they were crimson. He stood up abruptly, knocking his chair in the process as he scrambled to shove the books behind his back and out of sight. Since she had been practically looming over him, he quite nearly butted heads with her when he abruptly rose from his seat. He was in close enough proximity that he felt her breath fan over his face. Or rather, his neck, since he was about a head taller at the least. He prodded a finger at her, pressing it into her forehead, scowling, his teeth grinding against each other in the slightest.

“Mind your own business you-” and he let a string of colourful curse words leave his mouth before gathering his books and attempting to push past her. The problem was, Felix had chosen quite a desolate and small corner of the library to sit in. The confined space left him nowhere to move unless he picked up the girl and threw her a good few metres away. Felix inwardly groaned, annoyance clearly etched on his handsome features.

“Move. Now.”
and although the words were threatening, there was still an embarrassed tinge to them.
