Hadashi winced. This was the make or break it part of repairing a relationship. Shimizu-kun had aired his feelings. What he actually thought. And, it would seem that Narumi-kun had a lot to answer for. Just up and leaving Shimizu-kun like that without even trying to talk to him about it was... pretty negligent on his part. And he could very easily see how Shimizu-kun would feel abandoned.Still Hadashi Hitoshi.
However, Hadashi was also keenly aware that the relationship had still deteriorated to this point. Which meant that Shimizu-kun didn't take initiative himself either. And if it deteriorated in this way, it was due to neither of them taking the step to mend the damage.
While Hadashi was relatively sure that the falling out was started by Narumi-kun, and no measures taken by him to resolve it, Shimizu-kun was just as guilty of letting the friendship fall apart.
To Hadashi's minor disappointment, Narumi-kun did not vent his thoughts on the matter. Hadashi thought it likely that he would be the type to quietly take things like this in the same way he did blows in quidditch. This... presented a minor problem.
Hadashi's plan, if it were needed, would require a bit of fine tuning. And while Shimizu-kun had tinged his rant with a good amount of venom, he could not hide the hurt he felt from Hadashi.
Then again, hiding anything from Hadashi was notoriously difficult.
He wondered briefly if the two of them would find his -hopefully well veiled- attempts to help to be invasive and honestly, a bit controlling. But, he quickly realized that he did not care. If he did nothing to help rekindle a friendship like this, consciously ignoring this situation knowing that it would most likely just sit there inside them and slowly poison them, he would regret it for years at least.
Even if they lost all respect for him, Hadashi had to at least try. Would some parts of it be slightly underhanded?
Well... that would depend on who you asked.
Hadashi hoped that this plan would not need to be used. Best case scenario is that both of them seeing where they both went wrong, and attempt to fix things on their own. And then, Hadashi could simply nudge here and there to help. But if he had to act a bit manipulative to at the very least TRY to salvage a friendship so that Shimizu-kun would have a real friend again, and maybe help Narumi-kun get his grades back, and that Narumi-kun would help Shimizu chill out a bit, then he'd do it.
Yes. Hadashi was one to make sure people followed rules. But, he also knew the difference between following the rules, and being so stiff and rigid at all times that everyone avoids you because you're a buzzkill.
He greatly appreciated Shimizu-kun helping to keep order, but he also needed to have fun sometimes.
Hadashi realized with a start that he had gotten lost in his own thoughts again. Thankfully, he came back just before the next pair of spells started flying.

Narumi was right. That darn 10 degrees' worth of offset was enough to make the flames merely graze Narumi's sleeve. Akira swore under his breath. That boy was so tiresome; an undying virus that knew how to continuously plague Akira -- one that would perpetually remind him of his existence and their history together. One that continuously brought back memories of the old, joyous days that they had, making it a stark contrast to the darker days of today -- those of singular, lonesome struggle.
Akira took a deep breath and his own words spilled forth, unleashing his thoughts and feelings, unloading the blame. Over a years' worth of bottled up feelings swept the air between them. Somehow, it felt slightly cathartic to let go of his innermost thoughts and the resentment that he held, laying his feelings bare in a venomous outpour.
His dark gaze honed in on Narumi, wondering how he would respond to those accusations. Surely, he would join in on the volley of emotional outpouring, and explain himself in return? Perhaps, he would apologize for at least some of the pain that he had caused? If he did not regret his undying commitment to quidditch, or regret neglecting his studies and wasting away his academic talent, surely he would at least acknowledge Akira's feelings as a former friend who once understood him completely? Surely, he would have some mercy and show some compassion in light of the bond they'd once shared?
Akira listened closely to what Narumi had to say for himself. The apology or barrage of returned blame was coming, any moment now.
"Nice one Akira! Still though, like we discussed you gotta imagine the flames being a lot hotter, otherwise they'll die off too quickly." And that was it. Akira balked. Narumi had nothing more to offer, nothing else to say in response to the heart and soul that Akira had just poured out in front of him. It was like the boy hadn't even heard a single word. It was as if he was telling Akira that his feelings never mattered at all. The navy-robed boy stared in shock, brows furrowed in confusion and hurt, which quickly turned into anger like an igniting cinder -- a feat that often came quickly and easily for Akira and often showed, no matter how hard he tried to hide it.
"Tarantallegra," he incantated, rage building his magic. It was surprising that the spell even succeeded at this point; he was so close to losing his concentration. The barely-successful spell shot forth in a flurry of sparks, but was unfortunately off-center due to poor aim in the heat of the moment. As Akira watched his spell skim past his opponent, as if in slow-motion, his confidence wavered in more ways than one. In a split second, it seemed that he lost all respect from his former friend, who wouldn't even acknowledge his feelings or his existence; he lost his reputation as a person who always hit his target and struck mercilessly during duels; he lost the tiniest belief that he could ever make amends with Chikao. No, they had gone in too deep, and Narumi's blatant disregard was the last straw.
At that moment, the Knockback Jinx struck him squarely in the chest, and Akira didn't fight the force that came with it as it pushed him backwards, almost causing him to stumble with a fall. He grasped a hand to his chest, and gave himself a moment to take a few heaving breaths to settle his emotions, which hurt with every inhale, doubled over. Somehow, the physical pain was almost a welcome relief compared to the emotional pain.
"Narumi, you self-righteous bastard," he muttered with growl, dark hair falling over exceedingly wild eyes as he clutched his heaving chest, glaring up at his opponent. "You have no regrets, do you? You think you were right to give up and drop down to lavender, that you were right to leave me alone, and you never regretted it. You think I can't see right through you? You're just too afraid to admit it to my face," he snarled, unrelenting, like a wolf who only knew how to fight fear and pain with aggression directed at everyone and anyone at all.
Little did he know that Narumi distanced himself to protect Akira's reputation. There was simply no way that 11-year-old Akira would've been able to ignore the diatribes and jeering of their fellow students as Chikao had, or allowed his own grades to slip as the eldest son of the Shimizu family.
All he knew was what he felt, and nothing more. So it was out of pure anger, resentment, and hurt that he cast his next spell.

Chikao patted away the flames, the burning sensation started to hurt but he decided to just pull through. They swiftly died out a lot sooner than the last time Akira had cast that same spell. Chikao was beginning to build upon hope that perhaps the two of them could be friends again; thinking Akira was showing mercy from that shot. Well, that was his thought at first till Akira began to spat his venomous words once again at Chikao. Chikao hadn't realized (and still didn't) that his response was the wrong one to have given. He should have spat anger back at Akira, he should tell Akira that he was suffering just as much... but how could he? Chikao held back his hatred, he held it back against others. He wanted to repent for his misdeeds as a blue robe. Perhaps that was the reason he left. As he looked at Akira and listened to his hurtful words, Chikao was reminded of who he used to be. The anger Akira showed was very similar to how Chikao was. Chikao sometimes threatened students with the most measly of comments if they were directed towards him or Akira in a negative way. Chikao protected his friend back then, and even now he was going to try his best to do the same.
Chikao has grown and has chosen a different side to life. However, he could tell that the road he chose was filled with nothing but pain for himself in both the past and future. If he wanted to survive, he had to keep moving... alone. He couldn't drag Akira with him, and he couldn't explain why he stopped speaking with Akira. It was painful to keep his mouth shut as Akira yelled at him, he wished he could yell back. Chikao had to endure, and he wasn't going to back down.
Chikao stood still and was about to take the dancing feet spell. The spells that Akira lashed at him were justified, and Chikao was willing to accept each one from his friend as an apology. However, just as the spell came close at hand Chikao did an immediate swift sidestep to dodge it. Looking at Akira, feeling his rage, and reminding Chikao of who he once was had caused something to spark in him.
Chikao worked hard to become a lavender robe. Going from blue to lavender was incredibly harder than going the other way for him. Chikao wanted to do what he wanted, but he felt the rage build up inside of him; he soon began to feel his old self come back to mind.
He looked at Akira and gave a look he rarely had anymore. A look that students who remember Chikao as a blue robe saw often. A look that somehow looked calm and enraged with a hint of disappointment. Chikao began to feel like his old self again, a side that was rarely that kind: "Hey Shimizu-kun, why don't you just shut up already? If you keep letting that disgusting temper of yours take control again, then I'll finish this duel by burning that blue robe that doesn't even suit you. Or perhaps we should trade? When news gets out that the grand Shimizu-kun lost in a duel to the lazy Chikao, I'm sure that robe won't be fitting for you." Chikao's voice ran rather cold, and wasn't in a yelling tone. This was also the first moment in the duel to which he referred to Akira as Shimizu, and even used "kun" rather than "san."

Any hope of these two settling things simply evaporated. Narumi-kun was simply being petulant at this point. Shimizu-kun was letting his emotions out, to start the healing process, and here Narumi was still just brushing it off with silence and a taunt.
Maybe he thought he was being stoic; Hadashi saw it as him being bullheaded and selfish. There was absolutely no reason Narumi-kun could possibly come up with that would justify this response. Perhaps the first step in his plan to reignite the friendship between these two should actually be to send Narumi-kun mandatorily to the counselors at Mahoutokoro. Bottling your feelings led to nothing but problems.
Shimizu-kun seemed to feel similar about this. Voicing his clear disdain for Narumi-kun's short-sighted decision.
Hadashi himself had to suppress an angry look. But suppress it he did. He was to be the neutral judge.
And then, Narumi did it. He somehow did the only thing Hadashi could conceivably imagine being worse than brushing off Akira's emotions. Talking down to him about them, almost berating him for expressing them, and then threatening him. In fact, Hadashi caught that he used "kun".
Hadashi narrowed his eyes. He would be having a talk with Narumi later. After punishments, naturally. There was banter and dialogue in duels, but then there was flat out disrespect. Which was something Hadashi would not stand for.
What the hell could possibly be so difficult about giving the reason for his departure that he would go to such lengths to avoid it?
Hadashi filed away a mental note to consult his network in Mahoutokoro about this. Narumi was hiding something. And Hadashi would uncover it, come hell or high water.

Aaaaaaaalright! Last round was a major upset! Lets see how things shake out this time!!
Akira Shimizu casts Flipendo (DC=9) at Narumi!
10+7=17! The spell succeeds!
Hey, anyone remember the Sorcerer's Stone game for Gameboy Color, where Flipendo was classified as a Wind element spell? Never understood why they did that. Flipendo Tria was even a tornado.
Mm? Oh right, the match.
Akira Shimizu's Accuracy: 15+8=23 vs Chikao Narumi's Evasion: 1+0=1
............Wow. After the awesome attack you landed, you follow up with THAT?
Akira Shimizu lands a direct hit!! 100+5APx10=150 damage to Narumi!
But now, Chikao Narumi counters with a....Flipendo. (DC=9)
Hey, come on. Maybe he has limited options. He IS a Quidditch player.
Hm? Never you mind how many spells Dan has. Don't worry about it. (puts massive spell list away)
18+7=25! The spell succeeds! By... a lot. Whoa.
But the cast means little if you cant land the hit. Can Narumi land two in a row?!
Chikao Narumi's Accuracy: 4+7=11 vs Akira Shimizu's Evasion: 16+8=24
It was over twice the accuracy score. You get an awesome one. Rule I made up as soon as I saw this one and wanted to use it.

For a moment, he stared back in surprise as Narumi shot him a look he could barely remember. It was an icy cold stare that could turn its victims to stone, so very different from Akira's own fire. It was a look that one remembered only because they wished to forget it. It was the look that Chikao had when the easy-going water that represented Chikao Narumi finally froze over when he was irritated to the point of anger -- something that didn't seem to come often for Narumi these days, from what Akira observed.
And then came the merciless words and taunting that one would expect after receiving such a glare. "Hey Shimizu-kun, why don't you just shut up already? If you keep letting that disgusting temper of yours take control again, then I'll finish this duel by burning that blue robe that doesn't even suit you. Or perhaps we should trade? When news gets out that the grand Shimizu-kun lost in a duel to the lazy Chikao, I'm sure that robe won't be fitting for you," Narumi said. What? Did Narumi just call him 'Shimizu-kun' before he told him to shut up? Akira gritted his teeth at the boy's insolence. How dare Narumi -- a lavender-robed student -- address him as such? This seemed worse than Narumi calling him 'Akira', as he had always done until now. It was as if the boy was blatantly trying to disrespect him now, instead of innocently sticking to an old habit. Somehow, this irked Akira more than Chikao's threat to burn his navy robes or demote him down to lavender.
He was determined to fight Narumi's ice with a blast of personal fire. With considerable rage, Akira cast his Knockback Jinx. He watched as his sparks sailed past Narumi's own jinx, then dodged Narumi's incoming spell effortlessly. To his satisfaction, he watched the full force of his spell hit his opponent dead-on. Somehow, it was as if Narumi wasn't even trying to dodge. Well, whatever his opponent chose do to or chose not to do wasn't his problem. All that mattered, of course, was that Akira should win.
"Narumi," Akira said, dropping honorifics in response. It was his right to do so as he pleased, anyway. He was the superior navy-robed student between them, after all, and he had no inclination to be polite or accommodating after Narumi dismissed everything he said and blatantly disrespected him. "Are you giving up already? You're making this easy for me, aren't you? You're right, I don't think these robes suit me either," he paused and allowed a brief smirk. "That's because I want to be wearing gold. So, let's see if you can actually set these robes on fire," he spat back with a taunt of his own. If Narumi could even touch him.

Chikao endured the next attack from Akira, and could feel his breath get knocked out of him a bit. His breath became a little raspy and a little uneasy. Akira was a roaring fire that seemed like it wouldn't die down. If anything, it merely kept rising and Chikao was the one fueling it. At this point, the two boys were more like complete opposites. Chikao was a force of water, calm and flowing with a powerful physical force that could be seen as a waterfall. Yet, he could also become frozen and solid with little mercy for those that tread upon him, breaking and freezing those around him. Akira, was a pure flame, a fire that roared and raged and burned everything around him. Chikao lifted his head, and gave a smirk and a slight laugh, "Hehe, please Akira. I don't give up, and you know that. I fought multiple students at once to protect you and your damned robe. Even now we both knew I was at a disadvantage from the start, and yet here I am still going." Chikao was taunting Akira a bit, and he decided to continue with it: "Gold robes?! Do you really think you can achieve gold robes? You'd be a deep purple right about now if I didn't help you on some of the tests and exams we had. Besides, a gold robe would have done what I asked. I said 'knock me down,' and you still haven't. Also, your perfect match has pretty much been sullied. A gold robe student wouldn't have been hit by any of my attacks. You were close, I'll admit. But a gold robe would have ended this match a while ago. Even Hitoshi-kun-" Chikao bit his lip in his small rant. He didn't use the correct honorific, and he knew that was gonna cost him another hour or so during his punishment. His anger towards Akira really was making him blind and miscalculate. Chikao was acting like his old self but was still at war inside his head. He decided to finish what he was saying: "Had gotten hit," he said more calmly. Chikao lifted his wand, and held it in a fist, "And of course, I've been going easy on you. If you wanted me to be serious, I would have finished you in 1 hit with my fist."

Ooooh boy. Shimizu-kun was pissed now. This, Hadashi had noticed upon seeing his duels, was a very unfavorable position to be in. True, Shimizu-kun's anger was something one could exploit to have him make mistakes, this was also a double-edged sword. Because if he didn't make the mistakes, you were probably about to be in for a rough ride.
Shimizu-kun went on about how he wanted to wear golden robes. This was not something that Hadashi was unaware of. It was a goal shared by Hadashi himself, in fact. And one that he was very VERY close to achieving. Hadashi would alter his plan again, making an effort to ensure that both of them helped each other with their individual goals. Though... if Narumi-kun did not want gold robes, Hadashi silently admitted he had no idea what his goals were. So, he would need to look into that first.
...........Ex-fucking-scuse me?"A gold robe student wouldn't have been hit by any of my attacks. You were close, I'll admit. But a gold robe would have ended this match a while ago. Even Hitoshi-kun-...... Had gotten hit."
Narumi, on top of using an honorific denoting Hadashi as equal to or beneath him, had the sheer gall to imply that Hadashi was inadequate compared to a gold robe because he had gotten hit by an attack? That he had no need or reason to prepare for? That only had even targeted him because Narumi's form and aim was shit?
"Sakki nani te itsu ta no? Gaki?"
(What did you just say? Kid?)
This... was not a voice people often heard. This was not a Hadashi people often saw. This was not the generally cool and collected Hadashi. It was not the happy, I-am-enjoying-myself Hadashi. He and his voice still seemed cool and collected, just as normal on the surface. But one could very clearly hear (and feel) the sub-zero chill in his voice. See that the stare he affixed upon Narumi was one that caused freezing terror to most who were unfortunate enough to see it. A look, voice and posture that communicated unimaginably malicious and cruel intent.
Delicacy and serenity that would not disturb water, combined with intensity so powerful that one could feel it in all corners of the room.
That is what this Hadashi was.
He started walking very, excruciatingly slowly toward Narumi's side of the duelist platform.
"Perhaps, Narumi-kun, I should show you exactly what one worthy of gold robes is like. I think that would be very.... educational, for you."
A smile spread across Hadashi's face. The kind of smile that makes most want to escape the room with it in it as fast as they could.
"Oh what fun we will have. Wouldn't you agree-"
His head moved slightly toward his shoulder, regarding the one behind him without taking his eyes off Narumi.
"...Shi-mi-zu-kun?"
Dawn of the Ninth Round.
1 Round remains.
Dear oh dear... Seems like Narumi just made an enormous mistake. Lets see if he can wrap this duel up before Frieza- I mean Hadashi's other side decides to have a turn.

But can he bring it home?!
Chikao Narumi's accuracy: 18+7=25 vs Akira Shimizu's Evas-

5+8×0.25=5+2=7. Final evasion score before roll: 15.

He listened to Narumi's retort. Of course, he knew that Narumi wasn't giving up; the boy hardly ever gave up when he set his mind to something, even if it meant taking bludgers in quidditch or punches from your usual schoolyard bullies once they ever decided to get into a scrap with Akira and Chikao. If he had to be honest, Chikao knew how to give everyone a good fight if he wanted to.
Narumi continued onwards with his taunts. There was no rest for the weary. Time was almost up, but his words were even harsher. "I don't need you," Akira began. Again, here was Narumi, trying to dig into him by bringing up the past, even though he had no willingness to address anything else Akira said. "If I get to gold all by myself one day, it wouldn't be because a lazy lavender-robed student with wasted talents helped me get there." No, it would be by his own determination and will. He knew not to rely on the likes of anyone else by this point.
'Hitoshi...-kun'? Akira wondered if Narumi was getting tired and his words had slipped. However, he looked as serenely calm and icy as always. No, he surely had a clear head on his shoulders, though it was obviously damaged by Akira's standards. It was blasphemous to drag an experienced duelist like Hitoshi-senpai into this fight. No one would willingly get on Hitoshi-senpai's bad side.
Akira was going to warn Narumi to leave Hitoshi-senpai out of this, but it was too late. Their senpai's cold voice was edged with bitterness and threat that could make any normal underclassman cower. It almost brought a sweat to Akira's own brow, but he forced himself to focus on the duel at hand, deftly side-stepping a brutally well-aimed Knockback Jinx.
His ears perked as he noticed Hitoshi-senpai saying his name, and his gaze shifted to see his senpai's terrifying smile. Was Narumi going to be blasted to smithereens? To be honest, it seemed like Narumi was asking for it, so he deserved something. This boy and his loud, unstoppable mouth. "Agreed," Akira responded pragmatically. However, did he really want to see his old friend being used to wipe the floor by the best duelist on their school team? Somehow, it was a bit difficult being implicated as one of Narumi's executioners. Why was that? He couldn't quite explain it himself.
Perhaps he still had some age-old sense of mercy for that blasted boy.
"But, Hitoshi-senpai, I would request that you still leave a piece of Narumi-san for me," he responded, giving the upperclassman a small smile, wondering if the upperclassman could see through his conflicted feelings. Knowing his senpai, he very likely would, even though Akira didn't wish for it. Our boy didn't like to admit any weakness, after all.

Chikao could feel the burning eyes of Hitoshi-senpai approaching him. The gates of hell were open and Chikao had already accepted his fate. His laid-back and calmness that he worked hard to achieve had slipped through his grasp in this fight. He wanted to let go of his past self, but at least bring some things from the past with him. He originally hoped to relive a bit of the joyful past with Akira without Chikao having to act like an angry madman. Chikao was standing frozen and refused to look at Akira or Hadashi. He listened, waiting for what Akira was about to say before Hadashi would do something. "Agreed." With that, the chains of hell wrapped and clasped upon Chikao's arms and legs. His fate was sealed by Akira's words, and Chikao could only accept it.
His head still faced downward, he tried breathing. However, it was off-tempo and he was having difficulty. His grip on his wand got stronger, and if he were to go any farther he would most likely have snapped it. He worked hard to get where he was, and he felt truly sorry that Akira had to go through so much without him. Still, Chikao took pummels and lectures. He enjoyed the moments of rest and sleep, the tranquility that surged through his body. He hated who he use to be, and he hated he was seen as a beast by so many people. He bullied anyone who offended his friends when he was in both a blue robe and a lavender one.
As he thought about it, he recalled that students gave him a nickname. It was one that he used to embrace but typically hated now: "Oi Akira, you still get harassed by students... but haven't you noticed it's kind of lessened a bit lately? Some rumors have spread that you have a yokai that follows and protects you. Now you're saying you don't want protection?" Chikao's voice was extremely stone cold and he was all out of kindness. "Don't you remember what they use to call me?" Chikao began to say a little poem that only first years would sing about at Mahoutokoro. A little poem that only those who knew Chikaos rage would sing:
"Lock the door, blow out the light;
The hungry Oni haunts the night.
Hide and tremble, little one;
The Oni wants to have some fun.
Hear it scratching on the door;
See its shadow cross the floor.
The rising moon has a slash;
Till morning comes, beware the Oni's wrath.
Chikao use to be called an "Oni" amongst the first years. His use of the giant language, his horrible temper, and his unique strength for a pureblood made him odd. Some thought he actually was a living yokai. He tried to leave that life, and he really wanted to. Still, though, so many blue robes wanted to drag him back down to that state. If they wanted an Oni, then they'll get an Oni. Chikao lifted his face at Akira and the rage he held could be felt by looking at it.

Duel or no duel, such insults and dishonor would not stand. He readied his wand to cast a spell, to rain hell upon Chikao Narumi. He would-
Oh boo. There would be no time to save him some."Agreed, but, Hitoshi-senpai, I would request that you still leave a piece of Narumi-san for me,"
In the back of Hadashi's mind, he knew not to breach dueling protocol. This was a sanctioned duel, and the referee was not allowed to interfere with combat. He had to wait until the duel was concluded to mete out proper vengeance. But, Hadashi was patient. He could wait.
Hadashi thought for but a moment, and knew exactly what he was going to do. Narumi-kun would get what he had earned.
Hadashi turned and looked directly at Shimizu-kun.
"Shimizu-kun. I will let you have your duel. I am not to breach a duel. Not without proper reason. We will properly deal with Narumi-kun after his and Shamsi-kun's punishments."
Hadashi began thinking of various things to do in addition to what he had planned. And though he settled on one; one that would cause him significant additional pain in his feet, there was no reason to do it. I mean, not unless Narumi did something else...
Dawn of the Final Round
It's the end, baby
And here it is folks, the final round! Yeah, it SAYS 12 rounds on the duelist page, but we all decided on 10. I dunno why... But I did a little future peekey, and its not gonna matter anyway.
Akira Shimizu uses Flipendo(DC=9) on Narumi!
10+7=17! He succeeds!
But does he LAND the attack?
Akira Shimizu's Accuracy: 14+8=22 vs Chikao Narumi's evasion: 20+0=20!
YOOOO A NAT 20 BOYS! Narumi got a- Oh... wait... He got hit anyway...
Shimizu lands the hit! 150 damage to Narumi!
Now, Narumi's turn! He uses-
Wait a second. Narumi... throws a punch?!
WHOOOA whoa whoa! Party foul. Absolutely not.
Physical violence is not allowed. You can light each other on fire, cause snot bats to fly out of your noses, infect each other with the flu, and make each other literally vomit slugs, but throwing a punch is where I draw the line.
They both agreed to allow an autohit, and I'll allow the damage calculation, and will add at a slightly later date, but this is an instant disqualification for Narumi.
Final Standings:
Akira Shimisu: (will add here)/600 hp. Winner by Disqualification.
Chikao Narumi: 410/1000 hp. Disqualified.
I will post Hadashi's reaction and immediate disciplinary measures later. Feel free to make a final post.
