It had been quite an exhausting day for the young Ravenclaw. Ever since the other magical schools had arrived for the Hexiwizard Tournament and Blossom Ball, the amount of people had only seemed to increase her growing stress. On top of her classes, she also had the club she had started to run, friends to hang out with, her siblings and cousin who also went to Hogwarts to support, and on top of all this she still wanted to try to sign up to play a sport for Hogwarts. She wasn't sure how she managed it all without falling apart.
The day was now slowly transitioning into the evening as Selena walked down to the Great Hall. The ball was in just two days now, and though there wasn't anyone she was going with, she was still looking forward to it immensely. It would be an opportunity for her to connect and make new friends with people from all over the world. It was an exciting concept to her and from the chatter around her dorm, it was exciting to the others as well.
As she neared the entrance to the hall, she noticed a figure standing a short distance away. His back was turned to her, but his figure seemed all too familiar. Selena remembered a summer trip to Massachusetts. A treehouse deep in the woods. Getting lost, but at the same time found. Her heart leapt in her chest. If this was who she thought it was, it would make her day.
She walked slowly up to the boy. "Grayson?" she asked uncertainly. "Is that you?" She held her breath in anticipation as she waited. The two had kept in touch through letters ever since Selena had left, but hadn't seen each other face to face in quite some time. She worried that he might have lost the friendship they had before, after all they were only kids. At the same time though, it might be as if no time had passed and they could pick up right where they had left off.

Grayson was not having a good time at Hogwarts. Considering he had gotten ganged up on by a bunch of angry Durmstrang students and tossed into the lake before he even stepped foot in the castle, he was beginning to think the trip had been doomed from the start. And now, two days before the ball, he had absolutely no plan. He had no idea why he thought it was a good idea to come anyway. Did he seriously think he could land a date, or something? Yeah, the whole decision was insanely stupid.
As he walked into the Great Hall for dinner that evening, a scowl was unmistakenly plastered across his face. Hands stuffed in his jacket's pockets, he contemplated what he would be doing the entirety of the ball. Hide in his cabin all night? No, that would be boring. And lonely. The library, perhaps? That sounded quite fun. Grayson wasn't really the reading type, but he'd get really invested in a book if he had to. But would the library even be open? After all, wouldn't the librarian be chaperoning at the ball? Damnit, next plan of action. Should he sneak in?
He groaned. A whole lot of time would've been saved if he didn't decide to come on the stupid trip. He could really be enjoying his time back home at Ilvermorny. How much could he miss out anyways? Suddenly his thoughts were cut short by a voice, a very familiar voice, calling out his name.
Grayson didn't really have many acquaintances, much less friends, from any of the schools, including his own. The only person he really expected to ever call his name was Millie, but the English accent tainting this voice was unmistakable. He hadn't made many Hogwarts companions either, with the exception of one that he had made before he even began attending Ilvermorny. His mind immediately flashed to his last summer in Massachusetts, a summer spent in a secret treehouse. Nobody was allowed in, nobody even knew about it. Nobody but one person.
Grayson whipped around, his eyes meeting the ones of a familiar brunette. "No way," he muttered under his breath, trying to keep a grin from spreading widely on his face. She had grown a lot older since he last saw her, they both did, but his childhood friend was unmistakable. "Selena? I- you're here? At Hogwarts?" He stuttered, barely able to get his words out. "No way I'm not dreaming," he said, laughing.
While the two had kept in touch through letters, it had been a while since they last saw each other in person. It almost felt ethereal seeing her again. "I- how are you? God, it's been a while."

The boy stopped, but didn't turn around for a moment. He seemed to be in deep thought while she stood a few feet away behind him hopefully. She worried that it may not be him, that she had been thinking about him, then saw someone who looked like him and immediately assumed it was him. At the same time though, she knew she would recognize him anywhere, even if his back was turned to her at the moment.
When he finally turned around, Selena's eyes met his and she saw his face for the first time. There was no doubt about it, it was most definitely Grayson. She smiled brightly once she saw him. "You're not dreaming," she said softly. "And neither am I. You go to Ilvermorny? I- I'm surprised to say the least, I didn't think I'd see you again for a long time. Especially since our parents didn't know we met each other that summer."
That was one of the biggest reasons she hadn't been able to even visit Grayson. She hadn't told her parents that she had met a friend in the woods in a secret treehouse because it sounded like a fantasy almost. She assumed he hadn't told his mother either, seeing as his mother didn't know he was in the secret treehouse and it would have been hard to explain how he had met her.
"I mean, a lot has changed, that's for sure." She thought about all that had happened since she had seen him in person. She had a slight nagging in the back of her mind. He didn't know that since she had last seen him she had turned into a monster in the form of a wolf. She found herself hesitant to tell him. She didn't want to scare him away like she had so many others. "How have things been for you?"
