Broom racing held a special place in the flying Professor’s heart and it wasn’t just because she had to teach it. Miriam had been a professional broom racer for 15 years and only left the position to come teach at Hogwarts. Only weeks after she came, Hogwarts started up their first-ever broom racing season with a weekend in January. Professor Stube attended that race and was quite disappointed with the number of people in attendance to cheer. In her opinion, cheering was a critical part of the game that boosted the team’s morale. Also, cheering acted as a way to show your support for a team and show that you care about the team. Since broom racing meant so much to Miriam and she wanted more people cheering at the next race, she decided to hold a poster and more decorating activity.

It was Friday, April 8th and it was the day before the second broom racing match. In Miriam’s eyes, it was the best day to hold this event because the students could have the topic of broom racing on their minds and then could attend the match the next day. After the last class of the day finished, Professor Stube quickly walked to the great hall where everything for her activity was already set up by a few helpful house-elves. The two middle tables in the great hall had been covered fully in table cloths to reduce the mess.

On top of the tables, students would be able to see stacks of blank posters, banners, and stick flags in all colors. If a student had an idea of another cheering material to make, Miriam would try her hardest to make that a reality for that student. In between the stacks of blank cheering materials laid dozens of sets of art supplies. Markers, paintbrushes, paints, pencils, glitter pens, and more found their way onto the tables. More than likely, if a student wanted a material, it was there.

The whole goal of this operation was to get students excited about broom racing and prepared to come to the races. Professor Stube would make sure that every student that walked into this room knew that they should go to the broom races this weekend. Once students started trickling in, Miriam made sure that each of them knew what they needed to do with this activity, “Welcome, welcome! With the upcoming broom races this weekend, it’s time to raise some support for the sport! Grab a seat and get crafting, the goal is to make cheering materials that you can use to cheer with during the races this weekend!”

Clair loved Broom racing, far to much but what was there not to love? You were allowed to be violent, you were racing on broom at top speed and you could die! That made it all the more fun!
She also loved crafting, so it was the best thing ever when Clair heard about the errand, walking into the hall, her steps were full of purpose, of course she had a plan already, it would not make much thought for her to think of what she wanted to make, of course she wanted to make something for her epic team!

Sitting down in one of the seats she go ready to craft, finding as much blue stuff as she could(for her house of blue) she started by getting a big sheet of poster board, and covering it in blue paper, perfect! Sticking that one with some tap, she next drew out the rough shape of a eagle, (it was not perfect, she was not a famous Artist!) and then cut that out, putting that aside she got some lighter weighted paper and made a few origami birds, they were swans, but oh well close enough to eagles! Glue-ing them on around the poster board she made sure that they looked amazing, and then she glued the bird cut out on the side, next she tried to find the best markers settling with blue and a Bronze one that looked a little shiny, and in her neatest (but big) writing she wrote "Go RAVENCLAW, YOU KNOW YOUR THE BEST!" did she really need to remind everyone? No everyone knew that already, but that was ok, she would make sure they knew, and this race her team would win! She knew that as a fact, because who else could win? The only reason they had lost the last race was because Simon Kincaid, had been far too good, but tomorrow she would be racing along side her team against the lions, which would be rather fun, they had come out the victors of their race, but surely the eagles could beat them? Clair shook the thought away, no she HAD to think good thoughts or her nerves would get to high!

Sophia was relieved.

Walking into the Great Hall on a whim - it was still a bit chilly outside to consider studying out there, and the library would just distract her, ironically- she saw something marvelous.

Crafting supplies were scattered throughout the hall and students were buzzing about like bees working with them to make, well, something.

After her gawking was finished, Sophia noticed the one who seemed to be in charge was Professor Miriam, the Flying professor. Also the only professor whose class could make Sophia cry before every class despite her still being nice. The Ravenclaw really didn’t like heights.

Thankfully the professor was kindly instructing the students as they arrived, so Sophia knew what it was about. Broom racing!

Sophia had missed every broom racing match so far because of her own irresponsibility.

Struggling with sleep at night, she often inadvertently caught up on that sleep in the mornings and evenings in the Great Hall. She sometimes had a tendency to miss key announcements.

But not this time! Now she was fully aware of the race tomorrow, and, not only would she be there, but she would be there representing her house with golds and blues!

Speaking of blues, she scanned the students in the Great Hall until she saw a student in the elegant blue of her house and made her way over to them.

She had one more hill to overcome: her lack of creativity. But she was positive that two eagles putting their heads together could solve it.

“Hello,” she said when she reached the other girl, subtly peeking at her poster board, “I’ve seen you around the common room, but I don’t think we’ve talked. I’m Sophia.”

She waited for a response, plopped her Potions textbook onto the table, and grabbed her own poster board and a royal blue marker, tapping it thoughtfully against her chin. She needed ideas.

James walked into the Great hall. He enjoyed watching the Broom races. It was quite fun to watch. He would never do it himself though. No, he was more a sports watching person rather than a sports playing person. The last race was a total bummer. Not many people came to cheer. Hopefully creating the cheer objects would make cheering more fun for other people.

James saw a few other students in a variety of houses sitting along the two middle tables which were covered with crafting materials. Luckily there was a table cloth underneath. James sat down at a seat and began to craft some things. He made a banner for his house that read.
LET'S GO HUFFLEPUFF!!
In big block yellow letters with an orange shading on it. He made a similar one for Slytherin with two hues of green, Ravenclaw with two shades of blue, and Gryffindor with a shade of red and a darker maroon colour. Each had a different phrase on it. James stacked them on top of each other to get them out of his way. He grabbed two posters and thought about what to do with them. He rolled a poster into a cone shape and talked through it quietly. It made his voice a bit louder. He taped the poster in the shape it was in. DIY megaphone type things. That's a mouthful. Shouters. Yeah lets go with that. James did the same thing to another three posters colouring each one a color for a certain house writing the house names one each one in neat slanted letters.

James looked around to see if there was anything else he could use to make things. He took a few of the stick flags and taped them together. It could be waved back and forth in a circular motion like a baton. He tried to see what it would look like. He spun the baton through his fingers tossing it up into the air behind his back and catching it. Yes, If people wanted they could do a little performance with these for their favorite team with a cheer James smiled and continued to work.

He took some scissors and cut of strips from the flag sticks and tied them together. Pom poms! He waved them around slightly.

Dialogue: Liana - #09621b
Mentioning: @Vale Ashwood | @Avery Chen | @Maggie Hawkins
Outfit: School robes
Broomsticks, flying, and heights in general were not Liana's thing. However, it so happened that about half of her friends were into broom sports. They were even enlisted in Slytherin teams - Maggie and Avery in Quidditch, Vale in broom racing. She despised Quidditch for its lack of rational rules and the importance placed on a single player. Even knowing two of her favourite people were in the field couldn't force her to come and spectate the games. She had lent Maggie the Silver Arrow for use in practice and during the matches, and that had to count as sufficient support. Racing, on the other hand, was far less ridiculous in its rules, even though it was seemingly more brutal (was that what attracted Miss Ashwood to the sport?). It was bearable to watch, since there weren't any possibilities of some lucky guy swooping in and scoring enough points to negate the effort both opposing teams put into the game. There was still a single winning player, but at least everyone had the same role and worked together for their teammate to reach finish first.

Yes, Liana would come to watch tomorrow's game, at least the one with Slytherin in it. She wasn't sure which house they would compete against. Not Gryffindor, since their last match was against it. Eh, she'd find out once she got there. For now, it was enough to know that Vale would be one of the players. Having heard about the activity organized by Professor Stube, the redhead decided to join - if only to make sure that her house did not end up receiving the least cheers.

At the entrance to the Great Hall, she nodded a polite greeting to the professor, before averting her eyes and quickly moving off to find a seat. Not being among the best in that one subject - Flying - was still a cause of embarrassment for her. An E average? That was pitiful. Liana was getting steady Os from all the other subjects, but couldn't achieve a single one in Flying. She hoped Miss Stube did not dislike her for it.

The amount of art supplies provided was overwhelming. After surveying the tables laden with decorating tools, the first-year opted for something simple - a plain white poster, some dark green paint (for increased readability) and a paintbrush. First, she wrote down the text in large, neat letters:
GO BRISK BASILISKS!
VALE FOR THE WIN!
That sounded appropriate, right? In truth, she didn't have any experience with cheering and how it worked in sports. She just aimed for a statement that was loud enough to inspire her friend, but not so brash as to enrage the fans of the other team. And given that she only really knew one member of the Brisk Basilisks, it shouldn't be taken as an offence by anybody that she only mentioned Vale by name. Probably. Slytherins were a prickly bunch, after all. Not centering the poster around anyone specific may have been the most tactful option, but she wasn't about to scrap her work and start over.

Next, Liana painted a few long serpents circling the text, adding ornament to the empty white edges of the poster. Her drawing skills were not spectacular, but a snake really wasn't a difficult animal to depict. She felt quite happy with the result. The words should be visible from a long distance, and the rest of the space was nicely filled but not too crammed. For a one-time-use item, it looked good. The paint was still too wet to just roll the paper up for comfortable carrying, though. She decided to leave it there for the time being - in a few hours it should be dry enough to be portable; she'd come and pick it up then. After casting one more proud glance at her work, she got up from the bench and walked towards the exit.

James thought about making something he had heard of. They were called bam bams or boom sticks. He grabbed to things of paper and rolled them into cylinders taping them in that shape. He cut out circular pieces to tape to either side. However before he taped the closed completely her balled up some small pieces of paper and shoved them into each cylinder. He taped them shut after this. He banged them together lightly. They made a loud thump sound. That was good. He shook them and listened as the paper shook inside of them. Awesome. Now students and adults can use them to either bang together or shake them to make some noise

James smiled and started to make more banners. Each with a different phrase then the first time. One reading 'BRAVE AND DARING GRYFFINDORS! LET'S DO THIS' another reading
'WISE AND FULL OF WIT RAVENCLAWS CAN WIN'. He continued making replicas of the other things he made. There was still quite some material left though. What else could he make?

James looked around to see what other materials there were to use. Maybe he could tape flags to the banners. He did that. It looked pretty cool so he taped more to every other banner. James looked. He thought he had done quite enough and decided to leave the rest of the materials for the others. He didn't want to overuse anything. That would be very selfish of him.

Quidditch was a superior sport to anything, but broom racing was okay. It was another broom sport that involved flying and crushing the hopes and dreams of people from the other team as you win the game, so Juniper didn't mind it. Not to mention, she had a lot of friends on that team. Her cousin, Judy, was also on the broom racing team, so therefore, she had to be the number one fan. When you're best friend and a member of your family needs some cheering, you have to be there. Do some good and put your things down. So that's what Juniper did; she
set her homework aside and got ready for the crafting session. Just like quidditch, crafts had a place in her heart since she was only 5.

Crafting was her calm place because she was good at it and she didn't need to stress over other people not doing something right. Her current earrings were a craft made of polymer clay. On the left, it was a cute slice of bread with peanut butter on it (and cute little eyes) and on the right, it was a cute bread with jelly on it (also with cute little eyes) They were her favorite earrings as of late, but she had loads more that she made before. Besides, if she was getting points out of this, it was going to be SUPER fun.

When she arrived in the Great Hall, the flying professor kindly gave them instructions on what to do. Juniper personally liked the new professor, although she didn't have much of a chance to really meet her. But she was a cool, strong woman who was REALLY good on a broom. so Juniper liked her. She wasted no time in heading over to the two tables that held the supplies, brain storming what she could do. She grabbed a poster board and found a glittery blue sharpie-like marker. In big words, she wrote "FLY EAGLES FLY!" She took some gold and drew it around the border-line of her poster, trying to make it stand out. Grabbing a paintbrush, she dipped the tip into some brown. Pushing the paintbrush to her post, she drew a handle then
a broom. She rinsed the brush off and dipped it into blue, making little lines to indicate the broom was flying.

She put the paintbrush to the side and inspected her poster. It needed some more things... taking a black marker, she drew a simple yet cute stick figure with round eyes and an open mouth. A little speech bubble read "Omg Ravenclaw is sooooo fast" She also wrote, "zoom zoom" behind the broom stick. She chuckled at it and put it to the side. She took a stick flag and wrote "KICK BUTT" on it in bubble letters, coloring the letters in with multiple different patterns. They needed to be colorful, people needed to KNOW where her loyalty was, with her house. And always her house. Sure, Draven was in Slytherin but he wasn't a broom racer so she could care less. Even so, she still loved the people on the broom racing team.

The people!!

She took 3 more poster boards (smaller than the last) and grabbed a handful of markers. One said "LIN'S SO HOT-
SHE'S EVERYTHING YOU'RE NOT!!!" With a bunch of smiley faces all around it. She stuck froggy stickers and rainbow stickers all over. The next one said,

"HE'S SPEED, THAT ARI
SOMEONE YOU CAN'T BEAT
SORRY NOT SORRY
LOL"

With lot's of glitter.

And last but NEVER least,

"WATCH OUT FOR JUDY
SHE'LL TOTALLY KICK YOUR BOOTY"
With even MORE glitter and stickers. Perfect. She was finished, she couldn't wait to use these.

There were a few thing Clair loved to do in the magic world, that you could never doin the muggle world, such things included Broom racing.
You could never shoot spells while zooming around on a broom with everyone including the track trying to kill you in the muggle world!
Maybe danger was not fun for other people, but Clair found it fun she enjoyed the danger, mind you her mother would be rolling in her grave if she ever found out!
Clair moved that poster aside and was just pondering if she should make another when a fellow Ravenclaw plopped down beside her "Oh hello there!" Clair welcomed the girl with a smile.
"Nice to meet you Sophia, I'm Clair! I think I have seen you in the common room, but I don't recall ever chatting with you before." She decided to do a banner this time, rolling two sticks on each side of the banner she looked at it, "hmm it needs something more.. Do you wish to help me?" She offered to the other Ravenclaw, "I was thinking of including some things such as birds, 'cause we're eagles right? And maybe some brooms, because we are a broom racing team, and my thoughts were that we could have two people hold this, one on each end, and wave it around?
I would be one of those people, but of course I can't!" She smiled, it would be weird to do that, seeing as she would be sitting on the broom at the start line (and hopefully the finish line too!)
Getting some glitter (because GLITTER is the best!) she sprinkled it on a small eagle cut out that she had found sitting on the table, it would work just fine and dandy!
She glued it to the end, so it was perfectly fitting.
"you have any other ideas?" She asked, before she began to wo der what to write.

It hit Sophia like a brick.

Clair was on the racing team. She'd seen it on a roster list on the bulletin board, but it had completely slipped her mind. She would have noticed sooner, had she managed to make it to an actual race, but she only had herself to blame for missing the previous race. Oh well. Now was her chance to show some much-deserved support.

"Which House are you guys racing against tomorrow?" she asked Clair as she scanned the banner, "If it's Slytherin, maybe we could, like, draw an eagle eating a snake? They do that in nature, I'm pretty sure."

Sophia just assumed that Clair was an artist, based on the girl's creativity thus far. It was actually quite impressive. She would be proud to help the other girl to finish the banner, but finding a second person to hold it would be a real trick. She wasn't exactly a master of social interactions.

She pointed to a spot just below the eagle Clair had glued to the banner, "Like, right here? Maybe we can just draw an unconscious snake under the eagle with some brooms on the border?"

She definitely wasn't very creative, but it was very fun to brainstorm ideas. It got her heart pumping and filled her with house pride. She was excited for what was to come. She didn't know exactly what to expect at the broom race, but what could be more exciting than a bunch of daredevils bursting by at high speeds and avoiding obstacles in an adrenaline-filled competition?

Oh gosh, it was going to be so much fun.

"What's it like, racing brooms?" she asked Clair as they worked together on the banner.

Emma had practically run from her last class to the Common Room, itching to get out of her robes and into something a bit more comfortable. She had heard that there might be a crafting event in the Great Hall, and she was interested. While Emma wasn’t very creative, she still enjoyed making things. It was fun even if things didn’t turn out exactly as planned. Changing quickly into a pair of loose jeans, and an old but comfortable t-shirt with a faded logo, she debated a hoodie as it was still quite cold, but considering the potential for mess, she left without one.

Rubbing her hands up and down her arms, Emma quickly stepped out of the Common Room, walking quickly in hopes of upping her temperature a bit as she made the short trek to the Great Hall. It took only moments to get there, and she peeked around the entrance, hoping that there weren’t too many students yet. Emma was a bit tired of people but could handle some more time in a noisier setting before she would feel the need to go reset and take a break but still, she’d rather, having arrived towards the beginning, be able to make a couple of things and then leave before it got too crowded. Not to mention, she wanted to make sure they were actually crafting things rather than anything else.

Catching the last words of the Professor’s speech, she realized it was for Broom Racing. Emma was all for supporting the other Hufflepuff’s, as long as it did not require her to mount a broom. She had very little interest in flying. It caused her stomach to do weird circles and jumps, and she was always nervous that she would just fall right to her death. She had missed the previous Broom Race but from the sounds of things there had been lots of action, and Emma could appreciate it while also being glad that she hadn’t been the one taking fast turns, doing aerial acrobatics and dives.

Emma, now certain that she was in the right place, moved through the doors, looking around for a spot she could grab that had plenty of supplies. Spotting a spot, she picked up some yellow and black construction paper as she walked by several of the tables, figuring she could ask for any other supplies that weren’t near her chosen spot.

Deciding to start small, she grabbed to of the banners, before grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting several of the construction paper sheets into medium sized, diagonal strips. She placed glue on half of the banner, carefully lining up alternating strips of yellow and black. Covering the other half in glue, she continued the pattern until the end and then trimmed the edges off.

Carefully considering the markers nearby, she leaned over and grabbed a silver but couldn’t find a black. Looking down the table, she moved to her right, coming across a few other students. Clearing her throat, she said quietly, ”May I have that black marker?” Emma was planning to write Go Hufflepuff Go, with the first Go written in block letters at the top of the banner with Huffle in a nice handwritten font below, and the second Go at the top of the second banner with Puff on the bottom. She thought that conveyed her thoughts appropriately.

She also planned to create a larger banner with a hand drawn Badger (hopefully she could pull that off even if it’s just a black silhouette). Then include the words Hufflepuff is the Best! She had debated adding Forget All The Rest but that seemed mean, and she didn’t want to be mean to other houses while supporting her own. That would not make her feel great.
