2022, Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 6

Lucia aimed for her again and Samantha couldn't help but giggle when the spell missed. The chance of her team winning became bigger with every passing round and it lightened her mood a lot. Though she knew she shouldn't celebrate too early. Phaedra's spell hit, but Samantha's didn't, and as soon as she noticed that the brunette stopped giggling. Bridget reminded the duelist that the duel was almost over. "We can do this," the second year told her partner, before focusing on the duel again.

Reminder: You have about 34 hours to post and send in actions. Failing to post means your action is void and failing to give actions means your team does nothing but passively dodge.

A trio of Flipendos erupted across the stage. Sure, it may not have been the most creative strategy, but Phaedra didn't mind getting to the point. Both teams had the idea to dole out as much damage as possible in the remaining time, but only one was partly successful. Phaedra hummed when her spell connected, vaguely aware of Samantha's voice when Bridget called for the nearing deadline. Whether Lucia stayed standing or not, it had been an honourable duel.

A WIN FOR RAVENCLAW

The last seconds of the duel would see no more creativity in spell choice, but that was understandable. With such little time left, why risk running out of time trying to come up with a unique spell choice? Most duellists would not name Flipendo as their favorite spell, but it was certainly rare they’d go a duel without casting it.

The exchange played out much the same as the one just before. Lucia tried one last time to land a hit on Samantha, but it was clear her energy was waning and her target was more than prepared to move out of the way. Samantha, in turn, would miss, but Phaedra would not. Lucia looked especially winded after that spell slammed into her, but luckily for her (or perhaps unluckily, maybe passing out would have been more merciful), the Ravenclaws would be out of time to land anything else and she would finish this duel on her feet.

“Time!” As soon as their wands were lowered, Bridget hopped up onto the stage. She’d taken a few notes throughout to track who was in the lead, and in another duel she might have needed them. Not this one. Anyone could see how close Ravenclaw had come to ending the duel without the clock, and both looked to be doing well while Lucia stood alone and exhausted. She gave one last scan of the duellists, just to be thorough, before announcing, “Ravenclaw wins!”

“Well fought, all of you,” she added, this comment for the ears of the competitors, not the entire audience. Though Ravenclaw had dominated, one could not say Hufflepuff hadn’t fought to the end. “Make sure you see the nurse or one of the healing interns.” Turning to Lucia, specifically, she figured she should offer some assistance. She looked like she was barely hanging on, and Bridget knew from her experience in chess combat that a nap on the floor might be looking really good right now. “If you’d like a little help getting over there, just let me know.” If Lucia accepted, she’d offer either a shoulder to lean on or a Reparifors to take the edge off, and either way she’d at least watch to be sure she made it to a healer.

Seriously? She missed her last spell of the duel, what a shame. It would have been a lot better if she finished the duel with a bang, but this would have to do. Bridget called time and hopped on the stage and scanned the duelists, before declaring Ravenclaw as the winner. A big grin appeared on Samantha's face, she won! She finally won a duel!

"Yes!" she said triumphantly as she turned to Phaedra. "We did it! Good job!" The young girl sounded like her own cheerleader as she held up both of her hands, wanting a high five again. Hopefully, this high five would have a little more energy. "The spell spread thing you do is so cool! Seriously, amazing!" she looked at the older girl in awe.

Before the brunette hoped of the dueling stage, she turned to Lucia. "You did great, so did Lindsey!" she sounded excited, a lot happier than she would have been if she had lost. After giving Lucia a little smile she looked at Bridget and yelled. "Thanks for watching over the duel!" After saying, well more like screaming, something to everybody on the stage Samantha finally left it, probably the happiest she had ever been.
