Sleep.

It was something Vienna struggled with, very often, actually. People often said in order to fall asleep, you'd have to clear your mind, pause it. But her brain was running 24/7, thinking, scheming, planning. It had no time to rest. So that was the reason that that night Vienna was walking around the Slytherin common room, quiet as a feather, her steps light and agile as she bathed in the moonlight.

She had no goal, really. She'd just do anything but lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. She admired the paintings, tracing her fingers across the walls. Boring. Yeah, this wasn't helping. The Slytherin common room wasn't all that exciting. So what was? After all, she was in one of the most mysterious schools in the world. School.

That was it. The school. Vienna grinned as she tiptoed her way to the door. She gently pushed the door open, careful to not make a sound, as she made her way outside.

Students must be in their dormitories and in bed by a 10:00 p.m. curfew.

It was a rule that the professors and older students repeated multiple times. Yet, Vienna found a rush in rule-breaking. The adrenaline of the chance you might get caught. Perhaps enough of a rush to get her to fall asleep. Again, the punishment wasn't that fun, but she was always too caught up in the moment to think of the punishment. Plus, she hadn't gotten that much of a chance to explore the castle yet. There were still so many places to see, so many places she never had time to explore because she was too focused on getting to her next class or finishing her homework.

She slithered her way through the basements, up to the corridors. She had to admit, the Slytherin common room was quite an inconvenient area to be placed in when it came to accessing the rest of the school. But she found her way.

She observed in awe as she strolled through the halls. She still hadn't quite grasped the fact she was at the one and only Hogwarts. Everything seemed so surreal, so magical...

Vienna was snapped out of her thoughts as she felt something catch on her foot. Damnit. She came crashing to the ground, barely able to catch herself as she tripped across a stray rock. Damn old castle. Everything was cracking. She dusted off her scraped palms as she swore to herself. Luckily, she hadn't made that much of a sound. It was highly unlikely anybody heard her.

───── Faye Cosette Simmons had always struggled with vivid dreams. Ever since she was a kid, she'd go to sleep and dream the most stimulating, not-so-realistic dreams, mostly including talking unicorns and ice cream.

It would seem that, for a girl living such a vague, beneficial life, that her dreams would be boring as well, right? Wrong! Dreams were where a girl such as Faye could finally thrive, finally live an actual life without her struggles weighing her down. A time where she could belong.

However, since coming to Hogwarts, those dreams had become more confusing, like a strange riddle she had to solve. The Ravenclaw had just woken up from a very Alice-In-Wonderland style dream, where she had fallen down a hole and met a red panda who began to spout everything she had learnt in Charms the day before. It was all very strange. She didn't even know what a red panda was! The dream had reminded her of the notes she had failed to take in her lesson, sure, but it sure did well shock her!

Sweating from sleeping in her oversized bee onesie, Faye hopped through her dorm and down out of the common room, not giving a care in the world whether she made a noise or not. She did not often think about the repercussions of her actions, that was not her problem! Alright, maybe it was, but did she care? No! All she cared about right now was, actually there was basically nothing on her mind at this point, except meaningless thoughts that she didn't have the time to dwell on.

Moving around the corridors at god speed, Faye's mind emptied of the many rules she was breaking as she seemingly recreated a jazz sequence in her onesie. Mumbling a broken melody whilst she jumped around, it seemed like she was having the time of her life.

Da da da, du da du da da da! An endless tune floated out of her mouth to accompany her dance, fluffy socks tapping on the cold stone ground and arms flying everywhere. She was about to attempt a leap when she was snapped out of her dance number by a crash near her.

Ever curious and just a tad bit socially anxious, the Ravenclaw danced over to the fallen girl on the ground, who seemed to be saying strange words she'd never heard before.

"You ruined my dance number." Faye huffed, blinking innocently.

Vienna exhaled, getting up and brushing herself off as she reoriented herself. Hm, perhaps that was enough exploring for the night. She yawned, about to start the long walk back to the Slytherin dorm room when a voice interrupted her thoughts.

What? She thought she was alone. Shoot, the crash must've been louder than she thought. Who else would be wandering around the castle at night? Vienna's breath hitched. A prefect. Oh no. She turned slowly, anticipating the probably-a-very-angry-prefect that the voice belonged to. But no. Instead, Vienna's eyes fell upon a small redheaded girl. Dressed in an oversized bee onesie, she looked about Vienna's age. Probably not a prefect, but who knew? At least she didn't look angry. Or perhaps it was some kind of sick manipulation technique the maybe-prefect used to give her victims a fake feeling of trust. Or maybe Vienna was overthinking. Eh, she was pretty tired.

She decided to not give it much thought. Whoever this girl was, she wouldn't give into the fear, especially if she was a prefect. "Oh, um, sorry about that," she said, staring blankly. She wasn't quite sure what she was apologizing for, but the girl seemed quite upset. "Dance number?" She tilted her head. "You were... dancing?" A bit strange, she admitted. Dancing across the halls of the castle in the dead of the night. But everybody had their own hobbies, so she couldn't really judge. Perhaps it was some type of strange coping mechanism, for nightmares, perhaps?

Vienna hesitated. "Do you need an audience?" She inquired, rocking back and forth on her feet. She didn't have much to do anyway, the castle really wasn't as interesting as she had thought. Maybe a bit of entertainment would help. "Maybe to make up for interrupting. I don't have much to do anyways, I was actually about to head back to my common room. It's the least I can do," she shrugged, smiling.

───── Faye scrunched her face up as the girl apologised, as she should for interrupting her dance, said somebody deep in the back of her mind, but that was swiftly out of her mind in favour for the new stimulation of the girl, and everything she could learn from her. She hadn't seen her around before, and was keen to know more

However, she did not, definitely not, need to have an audience. All her confidence she once held before swiftly dissipated her body.
"Oh, not really. I was just finishing up, actually. Sorry."

And then, the girl started deciding to leave, which would have been perfect for her to continue letting out all her energy if it wasn't for one thing. She was lonely.

In order to stop the girl from leaving, Faye wiggled her arms violently in her direction, jumping up and down slightly. She must have looked crazy. But, she didn't really want her new distraction to leave, because then her mind would overload again with all the thoughts that she'd been trying to get rid of, but this girl was something to take her mind off the intelligible thoughts.

"Wait! wait, wait wait wait! Don't go! You weren't interrupting! What's your name? We could be friends?"

She seemed desperate, but in fact, she was.

The girl's response caught Vienna off-guard. "O-Oh." She mentally scolded herself. How stupid, who would want a stranger watching them dance in the dead of night anyways? "No, it's fine. Don't apologize- it was a dumb idea anyways," she said, shrugging. "I'll just- I'll just be on my way then," she began, beginning to walk away.

Suddenly she was stopped. She paused, watching a bit bewilderedly as the girl bounced towards her. Vienna paused as the girl spoke again. "Oh." She paused. To be entirely honest, she hadn't gotten that many chances to make friends yet. The concept was still a bit foreign to her, considering she had practically spent her whole life around nobody but her family.

"I- yeah. Sure," she decided, nodding. "We could be friends, if you'd like," she smiled softly. It was a bit strange, for people didn't usually ask her to be their friend out of the blue, especially minutes after meeting her. Perhaps it was a red flag, yet Vienna allowed herself to let her guard down, something she didn't do all that often. Perhaps her fatigue fed into her decision, or perhaps deep down she was just as desperate to make a friend.

"I'm Vienna," she offered her hand, something she had become accustomed to doing after attending multiple dinners and gatherings with powerful purebloods. "Vienna Goodwin. Or um," she hesitated, questioning how she should introduce herself. "Vi. If you'd like. My friends call me Vi," she added swiftly, nodding. "What's your name?" She asked. She had probably seen her around before, but Vienna was completely oblivious when it came to the ginger-haired girl's name.

"Are you a first year too?" She inquired the girl. "I think- I think I've seen you around before." A Hufflepuff, perhaps? Vienna knew she was definitely not a Slytherin. She knew the faces of practically every one of her fellow house members. Gryffindor? Ravenclaw?
