After the Duel
Hadashi was about to respond to Shamsi's rebuttal, only for Shimizu-kun to walk in on the situation as well.Hadashi Hitoshi
Reducio
Hadashi rather liked Shimizu, he was respectful to those above him, and knew to follow the rules.
However, he also recognized the disdain he had towards Shamsi, and that the feeling was certainly mutual. Though, he rather doubted that they disliked each other for the same reasons. Hadashi had a feeling that Shimizu coming into this would be like throwing gasoline onto a car fire.
Shimizu then began listing off various detention ideas to put Shamsi through. Hadashi has a feeling that Shimizu would make a good class representative for his year.
...Unless his disdain for Shamsi had racial roots, as he suspected they might... Hadashi, while sharing the slight mistrust of foreigners most Japanese natives did, was far less rigid about it. And if Mahoutokoro chose Shamsi, then he was part of the school. Period.
But, he knew that he would need to make a judgement call. And when he was about to, Shamsi spoke again. Speaking rather rudely to Shimizu, in fact. And Hadashi could have SWORN he heard Shamsi call him a prat.
Finally, Shamsi assured Hadashi that what happened was not a big deal. This, gave Hadashi an idea.
As Shamsi attempted to head upstairs, Hadashi's arm would lash out in front of him, barring the way.

I got sick of copy and pasting things that might not even be right. If you guys want the real japanese and subtitles back, I'll put them back in.
"We're not done quite yet, Shamsi-kun."
He turned to Shimizu.
"Your ideas for detention are a bit interesting, Shimizu-kun. I was simply going to have him wash everyone's robes-"
Hadashi took Shamsi's partially burned robes in his hand.
"- so that he may learn a proper understanding of what Mahoutokoro's robes mean to the wearer."
He then looked back at Shamsi.
"However, we do not get indefinite time here. And taking so much of it would be rather... distasteful. So, instead, I will go for something lighter, as he said it is not a big deal."
A small smirk started to grow on Hadashi's face.
"Shimisu-kun, breaking rules does not just make me worry about you. It reflects poorly on me as representative, and poorly on Mahoutokoro. To show how sorry you are, as Shimizu-kun said, your punishment will be thus: You will kneel on this floor, with no pillow. You will do so in shorts, so your knees will not be cushioned, and will do so in bare feet, toes bent forward, your weight going to both your knees, and your feet."
He looked again at Shimizu.
"This is to start in the morning. It is to begin immediately after breakfast."
Hadashi was about to say something else, but quickly realized what a disaster it would be with just the two of them alone.
" Shimizu-kun, you and I will watch him together. It is to last for 2 hours. No less. However, if he breaks stance, we will add 10 minutes to the time. We both will watch in case one of us misses something."
This was only a partial lie; Hadashi did know that two people watching for breaches in posture would be better than one. But, he also did not fully trust Shimizu to be fair about it, and not tack on extra time for nothing, or alter the punishment to make it worse.
"I think this is rather generous, don't you, Shamsi-kun?"
Hadashi looked Shamsi in the eyes, daring him to argue.
"Oh. And Shamsi-kun? I'm being lenient because you said it wasn't a big deal.
But if I hear about some detail you haven't told me, and find out that it WAS a big deal, we will be doing this again, with Shimizu-kun and I taking shifts while you kneel for twelve hours, both for what you did, and for blatantly lying about it. Clear?"

After the Duel
Shamsi got questions shot at him from all directions, and Sana began to feel a tiny bit sorry for him. She awkwardly shifted her feet, not choosing to, however, try to assist him. The last thing she wanted was to get on the bad side of everyone else. She pressed her lips into a thin line and crossed her arms as if she was trying to comfort herself as she watched her classmate get in trouble. But everything Shamsi said only seemed to make it worse. "Do what after dinner?" She found her self asking silently. While every inch of her respected Shimizu-San, she still felt a bit guilty for not doing something. Instead, she put on a smile and bowed her head at Shimizu-san and let him suggest Shamsi be punished. She tried to catch Shamsi's eyes, but she eventually gave up and glanced at Sakura.
She held back a gasp at Shimizu-san's suggestions for punishments and gaped dumbfounded. "That's-" She muttered before falling silent to stay on the good side of everyone else. She widened her eyes at Shamsi's come back and hide a slight smile at his courage. But it was rude, she knew. He couldn't speak like that to someone like Shimizu-san. "How dare you speak like that!" She said quietly, but loud enough to be heard. "Don't have any shame for your actions? You're breaking the rules and dragging the rest of us in the dirt with you because you can't follow the rules! How hard is it to do what is expected?" She shot at him, but there wasn't anger in her voice.
She let out a breath of relief. That punishment wasn't so bad, washing robes. But then there was a smile. "Hm, serves him right I suppose." She said doubtfully, feeling every inch guilty. Maybe she could wait for him once his punishment was done and apologize. She wasn't brave enough to say anything, especially in front of everyone else. "Maybe he'll not do it again, right?"

After the Duel

He narrowed his eyes as Shamsi called him an ‘unoriginal prat’ and ‘insecure bootlicker’. Why he thought to do that, Akira didn’t know, but he was willing to save any revenge he might seek for that show of disrespect, for later. In fact, it was difficult for him to see the logic behind any of Aryaan Shamsi’s actions at this point, as he listened to his insulting rant. Before Akira could quell his inner flames enough to respond eloquently, Ohashi-san stepped in to chastise the boy on his behalf. Akira offered a small smile of thanks to the girl. In his mind, Ohashi-san had always set a good example for her peers; he wouldn’t be surprised if she would be able to achieve the navy ranks someday soon.
“Ohashi-san, thank you for those insightful words. See, Shamsi? Your actions and the way you speak have only disgraced our year. It isn’t difficult to follow the rules, as Ohashi-san and Kobayashi-san do perfectly well. Couldn’t cultural exchanges very well happen in moderated conditions, without the need to break curfew? You are the one causing trouble, so stop trying to redirect the attention to me.” He glared at the insolent boy, knowing that Shamsi was one to fan the flames. And the flames were certainly raging within, but the time for them to burst was not now, in front of his peers. And how odd it was, that Shamsi didn’t respond to his question about winning the duel. Akira was sure that the boy would be prattling on about his win if it had been the case, since he didn’t have an inch of modesty.
After downplaying his rule-breaking, the Indian boy had the nerve to try walking off. Thankfully, their ever-responsible and commandeering Hitoshi-senpai stopped him in his tracks before Akira could raise his voice. At his senpai’s compliment about his detention ideas, Akira bowed his head towards his upperclassman modestly in thanks. A boy like Shamsi could never understand the joys and honor of being a useful asset to his seniors: trusted, capable, reliable, and acting with a sense of duty and purpose. This was how you gained respect: by giving, not taking.
When hearing the punishment that Hitoshi-senpai decreed, Akira couldn’t help but let out a small smirk of satisfaction. Yes, of course his senpai was just and had chosen an appropriate punishment. “Yes, Hitoshi-senpai, you can rely on me to help,” Akira responded with a nod upon being called to help oversee detention, already resolving to mercilessly address any flaws in posture or smart-mouthing during the two hours after breakfast. “Well, now that we’ve agreed to the terms of punishment, may we be excused, Hitoshi-senpai?” he asked, knowing that there was work to be done the next morning.
Akira would leave the thread upon Hitoshi’s approval, otherwise he would stay to address any outstanding matters.

"Hey Hey, I don't think we've all come to an agreement just yet Shimizu-chan," Chikao Narumi stepped out of his room to join the entourage of students outside of it. Looking as messy as ever, having woken up from his 6th nap of the day with a slight sway to his barefoot steps as if drunken off of sleep. Also, as usual, he was toying with Shimizu by using the honorific "-chan," even raising his voice a bit to sound a little girlish. He gave out a slight chuckle and small smirk until he realized that he had spoken in Giant rather than Japanese. A bad habit of his that he tended not to notice all the time, but he was certain everyone at least could hear him say Shimizu's name and the honorific as well.
"Ah, sorry, sorry. Just waking up again due to all the loud ruckus." In reality, Narumi was staying up the entire time waiting for Shamsi to return. It took longer than he was expecting, and he was about to fall asleep. Although, when he began to hear voices outside his room, he decided to stay up and listen. Rather than try and barge in to find out what was going on, Narumi waited until it felt right to enter the fray. He understood a few segments and missed quite a bit at the beginning; although it seemed to be the usual. Shamsi was in trouble, got caught, and now everyone was gonna berate him. "Shamsi-san! How did the cultural exchange go? I can tell you did well, and it sounds like you got a good amount of info too. It's a good thing I and Shimizu-chan sent you out there and gave you the suggestion to offer that exchange in the first place," Narumi said rather blatantly and joyfully. A lie of his own making, but one he would try and stick with for Shamsi's sake. With a slight wave towards Kobayashi-san and Ohashi-san, Narumi approached his higher up.
Back still slouched he looked over at Shamsi, "It's okay Shamsi, you got caught. Time for us all to come clean and be treated as equals," Narumi gave a slight smile towards Shamsi and Shimizu. Straightening his back, and clearing his throat to sway the tired tone he had. Narumi then proceeded to fall on his knees to perform dogeza,
"Hitoshi-Senpai! With great apologies, I am sorry for the acts that we three have done. Shamsi never originally had the idea to break curfew or perform the cultural exchange without the help of both I and Shimizu-san. We risked Shamsi-san getting in trouble in order to learn more about the Hogwarts students here. I wished to have learned more about their culture, and Shimizu-san wanted to learn more about their dueling capabilities. However, we were not expecting Shamsi-san to have come caught at this hour. Shimizu planned to throw Shamsi under the bus and take all the blame, but I cannot live to that. As such, I beg of you to allow all three of us to receive the punishment you have suggested for Shamsi himself."
Head down and trying to sound as convincing as possible with all points of logic, Narumi couldn't only hope that his little play could convince Hitoshi-senpai. It seemed logical though for Narumi to break down like this, and for Shimizu to gain info for an upper hand in duels while also taking no risk. Also, by the end of it Shamsi would have been the only one taking responsibility.

"Narumi-san" She greeted her classmate, seeing all of this start to get even more out of hand. She felt herself spiraling in a panicked motion, but it was all in her head. She unfolded her hands and let them drop to her sides, taking a shaking step back. While some craved drama, she wanted nothing more than to get out of here and cover her face from Shamsi forever. How would he see her after this night and after the punishment? As a bad guy? She wish she could tell him that she cared. Unlike Shimizu-San, she did not despise him. And yet, while she would willingly do anything Shimzu-San said, she would always feel a bit guilt if it was wrong.
But Narumi-San was quite the opposite. He walked out and said an outright lie. Had Sana been not paying attention, she wouldn't have responded. She nodded slowly at first then decided to insert herself into the story as well. "Hey, we agreed to not let anyone know we were a part of it, I thought?" She asked, seemingly shocked. She tried to catch the eye of the two boys, no longer as nervous now that she wasn't the only one who wanted to stand up. She left her place on the patch of the dirt and headed to Shamsi-san. "Well now that we've been exposed, can I apologize for not saying something sooner? I know it wasn't fair of me to let you take the blame. Tell me, how was their spell casting? I think I'd like to know in case we do a broom race against them." because, she had obviously asked him to find out for her. She turned to the older/higher student and bowed her head to hide her face. "I wanted him to find out for me how they cast spells. I'm so sorry." All the while, her heart was beating like drums. All she could hear was the rapid rhythm that echoed through her bones and in her ears. It was so loud she wondered if anyone else would be able to hear it.
She watched Narumi fall into a full Dogeza. He had laid down his dignity at the feet of another- for another. That was- actually inspirational. Slowly but surely, she lowered herself to her knees next to Narumi-San and bowed into a dogeza as well. "No. All four of us. Please forgive me as well for I played a part in it. What's worse is that I would have thrown him 'under the bus' as well. Let all four of us take the punishment."

English | Japanese | Hindi | CantoneseAryaan mumbled in dissatisfaction at his senior’s edict. Kneeling was not exactly pleasant, but not the most uncomfortable of punishments that could have been given. At least it wasn’t a seiza. Those made his entire legs go numb for hours afterwards.
He was going to let it go, when Shimizu-kun had to open his mouth. It was almost as if the navy-robed boy could not get by without saying something that ticked Aryaan off. Stupid overproud prick. Shimizu probably never had a day’s fun in his entire life, so obsessed as he was with his optics and supposed honor. He’d probably turn over his own brother to the teachers for brownie points.
Just as Aryaan opened his mouth to make one last parting remark, this surprise party got yet another member – Chikao. On this trip, Chikao was easily Aryaan’s best friend: the larger boy played Quidditch, realized there was more to life than grades and being the perfect little student, and had a way to just roll with the punches. Then Chikao opened his mouth and turned the conversation upon its head.
Aryaan could only stare at the boy dumbly as he weaved a tale about how Akira Shimizu had plotted with him to find out about how good Hogwarts athletes were. As if he would cooperate with Aryaan on anything at all.
“Good one!” he mouthed at the Mahou beater, his face thankfully turned away from Hadashi-senpai. Out loud, Aryaan’s voice was panicked. “Oi, Chikao. Stop it. I said I’ll take the punishment, even if I thought it was unfair. You guys stayed here, no need for you to-"
And then Ohashi-san joined in. The girl who’d followed the nerds around like a goodie-two-shoes. And now she was standing up for him, and even making up excuses. Aryaan stared at the girl, as if he were seeing her for the first time. He couldn’t help it. It was all Aryaan could do to keep his jaw from dropping.
“Thanks a lot, guys.” He said finally. “I’ve gotten some information on the Slither-in and Huff-and-puff students. But they were only first-years and-” And here he turned to give a half-glance at the two navy-uniforms. “Maybe we should talk about this late, so senpai can have some peace?”
The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

Right when Hadashi thought this was settled and he could go to bed, everything was made three times as complicated.Hadashi Hitoshi
Reducio
Just as Hadashi was turning to go to bed, Narumi-kun showed up. Then he proceeded to tell him that Shamsi did not act alone, and that this was a mass conspiracy between himself, Shamsi, and Shimizu, and begged him to have all 3 of them take the punishment together.
This, Hadashi could tell, was some military grade bullshit. While he was rather certain that Shimizu would have no issue throwing Shamsi under a bus to cover himself if he needed to, Shamsi never ONCE brought it up. Hadashi knew Shamsi well enough to know that he would have told him about Shimizu's deception immediately upon being caught. Narumi-kuns story, while entirely unbelieved, didn't fall on deaf ears, however. Hadashi did not like being lied to. At all. However, the meaning behind the action also didn't go unnoticed. They were friends; that much was clear.
Hadashi decided that he was additionally punish Narumi for lying to him but thought it more fun to play another mind game and let him think he fell for it until the last minute.
He let out a very convincing sigh.
"I was not aware of this. I will amend it. You each will suffer this punishment alone, and for increased time. One after the other. Shamsi-kun first, then you immediately after, Narumi-kun. Since it was a premeditated, two-man conspiracy instead of a spur of the moment decision, the time will be increased to three hours. Each.
Narumi-kun, yours will be the same as Shamsi-kun's. Three hours of kneeling, shorts above the knee, and bare feet. ANY breach in posture regardless of how small, will now add 20 minutes instead of 10. I trust that my point will have been made."
This mainly was due to the fact that Hadashi wanted himself and Shimizu to have full attention on one person. In addition, he wasn't about to put two friends together in a detention, as that would dramatically increase the odds of something unwanted happening.
"However, I have no evidence of wrongdoing from Shimizu-kun. You two confessed, so you both will have it. He will not. I will inform him of the new developments immediately. And inform him that I will have my eye on him closely after this."
Hadashi knew this may make one or both of them a bit indignant, but he knew they were lying, and if they argued the point, he would blow the lid off of it and triple the time both of them had to kneel for trying to deceive him further.
In addition, Hadashi had no intention of closely eyeing Shimizu, since he had done nothing wrong. Rather, he intended to inform him that these two had tried to backstab him and force a punishment not owed onto him. And possibly hint that maaaaybe, you know just possibly, Hadashi may not be paying full attention once or twice if a tickling charm was used on them for a few seconds, as he saw that a bit of payback was due on Shimizu's part for this blatant attempt.
Oh hey. There was another reason to make the punishment more severe.
On top of all this, once again when Hadashi had turned to leave, someone ELSE spoke up. Ohashi-chan came forward seeming to corroborate the story.
So many coming to Shamsi's aid was heartwarming, but it was beginning to wear on Hadashi's patience.
He wasn't sure if he had let out an irritated groan or not. He certainly hoped he didn't.
"Ohashi-chan. I would include you in it, but I simply do not have proper time. Instead, since this is another confession, YOU will be the one to wash the group's robes, and mend Shamsi-kun's. His appears to be in a bit of disrepair."
Hadashi ran a hand through his hair.
"Are we quite finished, now?"

After the Duel

He was already in the hallway, heading back to his room before his ears perked up at the sound of "Shimizu-chan" in a language that he didn't understand. Akira gave an exasperated sigh; it could only mean that Narumi-san was now awake as well. No one else dared cared to call him 'Shimizu-chan'. Determined to let this slide for once -- since he wasn't going to come barreling back into the common room at some childish name -- he continued onwards towards his room.
But it only got worse.
"...It's a good thing I and Shimizu-chan sent you out there and gave you the suggestion to offer that exchange in the first place," Narumi could be heard saying. What in the world was that lavender-robed boy thinking? Dragging Akira into the blame like that? And suggesting that he should get punished, too? His fists clenched and his jaw tightened, and it took all his control not to go thrashing back into the common room. No, he had to calm himself down before acting. Hot-headedness would not serve him now, especially in front of everyone else. He paused in the hallway, listening.
His disbelief would only build when he heard Ohashi-san attempt to corroborate Narumi-san's story, and suggest that Akira be punished as well. Out of all of them, he was most surprised that Ohashi Sana would betray him and side with them. Narumi, that lavender-robed rascal! And Shamsi! Tainting the likes of even purple-robed Ohashi-san, who had worked so hard to get to where she was, and had set up a such a good reputation for herself. No, he would not be dragged down by the likes of Shamsi and Narumi as well.
It was very hard not to throw himself back into the fray when he heard Hitoshi-senpai seem to agree, but his patience served him well. Once he heard he was exempt from punishments, Akira relaxed slightly. Of course, Hitoshi-senpai couldn't possibly believe that Akira was part of this charade, too. It was simply unlike Akira to do so.
But, while his mind told him to go to bed, his feet wouldn't let him. He had to make some things clear. So, he headed back into the common room. "Hitoshi-senpai, I had to let you know that I had no part in this. Whatever Shamsi and Narumi-san planned is between them." He would not comment on Ohashi-san. Perhaps she deserved one last chance to redeem herself in his mind. Perhaps she would wake up the next morning and understand that she had been guiled by Narumi and Shamsi. "I would gladly help you oversee both detentions. Their insolence cannot be ignored. If I can do anything to help prevent more trouble, I would." He glanced at the two young boys.

After the Duel
Chikao bit the inside of his cheek a little, as always Hitoshi-senpai was being smart and clever like usual. That or he was bluffing and was about to drag Chikao into a trap and prove that what he said was a lie. Chikao had to think of a way to not slip up, speaking with Hitoshi-senpai was like playing wizards chess in the most simple of conversations sometimes. He thought fast and took a slight bet that perhaps Hitoshi-senpai hadn't seen through his lie just yet, and Chikao was willing to keep to what he said. Head still forced on the ground, he was about to speak up on how Shimizu-san is just as responsible as the rest of them. Until the honorary navy blue-robed boy began to speak for himself. Slightly surprised by mentioning only him and Shamsi-san, Chikao believed they had a slight agreement on the fact that Ohashi-chan didn't deserve a punishment like the rest of them. A lovely creature Ability Pun Intended didn't have to be dragged down to Shamsi-san's and Chikao's level. Chikao always gave respect to others, but tonight he gave the most to Ohashi-chan and Shamsi-san for their actions.
Head still on the ground, Chikao wasn't going to back down from a fight just yet. If anything, a fight was precisely what was needed "Hitoshi-senpai! I am deeply sorry, but I cannot accept these terms. Shimizu-san is just as responsible as us three, and I can understand why you would not listen to me or Shamsi-san's voice. However, Ohashi-chan has given herself up also, and I cannot accept the terms you have when three of your kohais have spoken. I am in no position, but I must request a duel in the early morning with Shimizu-chan under your eyes to have him pay for not telling the truth. I must request that if I win this duel, that you would relieve Shamsi and I's punishments from three hours to two; as well as have Shamsi take over cleaning our robes rather than Ohashi-san. However, for my act of speaking against you, I am willing to face harsher punishments. I propose that if I lose to Shimizu-san, that I and Shamsi be pushed to 4 hours of punishment, I will do Shimizu's bidding for the rest of our time here at Hogwarts, and I will clean everyone's robes for the rest of our time here at Hogwarts as well. I will not complain, nor will I object if these terms are accepted.
A great risk with a very small reward. Still, Narumi thought back to quidditch practice with Shamsi-san, and he was certain Shamsi-san wouldn't be able to last three hours under a rather muscle-intensive activity with the dread-filled eyes of Hitoshi-senpai or Shimizu-san. Tilting his head slightly towards his quidditch friend, he gave a slight wink to boost not only Shamsi-san's but his own confidence as well.
Chikao wouldn't lift his head up just yet, he needed to hear if Hitoshi-senpai and Shimizu-san would accept the terms. Chikao made sure to say "-chan" a couple more times in hopes to rival Shimizu-san up a bit.

After the Duel

Akira narrowed his eyes in exasperation as Narumi continued to try dragging him alongside them into the dirt. He never took Narumi for a fool -- in fact, there was a time when Akira could say that he respected the boy, and that they had mutual respect for each other. However, gone were the days when a young Narumi donned the navy robe. Their days of studying together, congratulating each other on their exam scores, or asking each other to explain notes from class seemed like nothing but a fleeting memory now. It was a pity, Narumi's wasted brains and talent. And now, the same talents were being used to irrelevantly incite disorder. My, my, how far the boy had fallen.
And he dared speak up against Hitoshi-senpai's punishments? He listened as Narumi suggested an alternative way to lessen their punishments -- always thinking of a clever way out, that one. Upon hearing Narumi challenging him to a duel, Akira almost smiled. Whyever not? It seemed that Narumi had just written his fate in stone. Akira, believing himself to be a deserving duelist on the Mahoutokoro team, felt quite certain that he would win. And then, he would be able to have that delinquent under his thumb for the rest of the trip. It was a clear win-win.
Once Narumi finished speaking (without first sprinkling in a detestable "Shimizi-chan" in there somewhere, causing him to grit his teeth and cringe), Akira spoke. "Hitoshi-senpai, again, you cannot believe him when he says that I was also involved. To prove my innocence, I'm willing to take on this duel. You can trust me when I say that I will do my best to win. Perhaps it'll teach Narumi-san a lesson for running his mouth. I'm eager to put him in his place so we can guarantee that he'll be obedient for the rest of the trip." Here, he would look to his senpai for permission, like an attack dog waiting to be released by his handler, eager for blood.
