A SURPRISE!
A mini-moderation post to remedy that I forgot to include a cupcake and letter delivery for @Pericles Dralt.
Alois had been dwelling in the corner of the ballroom, near the mysterious shutter from which delicate harp music had been flowing. His eyes flickered from table to table, arms crossed upon his chest and ready to jump into action should something call for his attention. Something did eventually arise that required him to join the mix, but it was not quite what he’d been expecting with all the rising tensions throughout the room.

“Oh,” He breathed, taking a cupcake box into his hands. “My my, where have you been hiding?” The tall professor peered over the box, scanning its contents quickly. “Thank you, I’ll get this over there right away,” He spoke curtly, pushing himself from his place against the wall and scanning each of the tables for the face of one particular student. A few moments came and went without movement, but thankfully Alois recalled he did, in fact, have his glasses resting on his collar, and those sped up the process immensely.

In a flash, he stood at the edge of Table 15, beside one Pericles Dralt, one of the Ravenclaw prefects. “My apologies for the delay, Mr. Dralt, it seems you’ve got another admirer.” He set the box alongside the rest of the prefect’s treats, offering the rest of the table a curt nod before dismissing himself back to his observational corner.

A note was attached to the top of the box, exuding house pride for the eagles. A pale blue parchment was used as the base for the note, neat handwriting in dark blue ink writing the letter of anonymous affections itself. It was clearly addressed to Pericles, but where the sender's name should be, there was only the pale blue void upon which the sentiments were poured. In the four corners of the letter and dousing its backside were sprinkles of bronze glitter upon which the chandelier’s light twirled. Really, quite the cute little message.
Dear Peri,

We need to be better friends! I know that's a rather odd thing to place in a letter, rather than to just tell you in person, but you are honestly quite wonderful and I should someday love to get to know you more. Hope you like the treat- heard 'round the grapevine you're a fan of lemon!
Pericles had reason to be delighted should the grapevine have spoken the truth, as when he opened the box, he’d find a delicious-looking cupcake waiting on the inside. The cupcake itself was lemon flavored in accordance with the note, whipped cream topping it in a well-crafted swirl. Returning to house pride, blue nonpareil sprinkles were meticulously laid atop it to form the shape of a flower. It was abundantly clear the sender had put quite a bit of effort into this gift, both in thought and practice, it was a shame the whole thing remained unsigned!

Jake was happy to hear that he was dressed ok. Ever since he'd come to a Halloween masquerade as a pumpkin, he'd been trying to be more careful about not being the only one who didn't match. Xailah said there wasn't really anything to 'get' about Valentine's Day, but Jake didn't really believe her. Maybe that's just what you said when you did get it...

It didn't take long until the next person arrived, another Hufflepuff named Haven that Jake had seen in classes and the common room, even if they hadn't talked. She introduced herself to the table. Mostly when somebody introduced themselves you were supposed to introduce yourself back, but he already knew a lot of the Hufflepuff's names, and what if she DID know who he was already? Now that he was a prefect, more people than ever knew him. Jake hated it.

He didn't really know what he was supposed to say, so what came out was "U-Um, I'm Jake...But you might already know that." Not that he meant that she should know that or anything. Had he said that wrong? Being a prefect had made everything weird. But it was all ok pretty quick when she offered some candy.

"Really? Ok! I'll have a little, um, but maybe not too much. Im already having cupcakes, and it's really not good to have too many sweets." He knew it was Valentine's Day, but his mum would kill him if he had two cupcakes AND candy too. And there was no WAY he could skip having the cupcakes "But maybe I can save 'em for later...?" That would be smart. "I didn't bring anything to share though..." he said. Maybe he should have brought something to hand out at his table too.

Jake looked down curiously at the candy that Haven had in her bag. It wasn't all she had offered, though was it? "Wait, what kinda socks? Are they warm?" he asked. Warm socks could be pretty nice too (and they'd never given anybody too much sugar). "Yours are really cool," he said in admiration, pointing down at the cartoon dogs on her feet, or well...one of her feet, since she had different socks on different feet, something Jake had never tried before.

Even though it was a valentine's party, things weren't going so bad so far. They were kinda nice, actually, the way Jake thought Valentine's Day was supposed to go when he'd gotten to school. But then...

"Uh oh..." Jake gulped. He didn't really know why he said it. Pink roses floating down from the ceiling didn't SOUND like something scary. But something was happening and that couldn't be good right? After all that had happened at Hogwarts, the slowly floating roses seemed somehow ominous, and they only seemed worse as one casually drifted to a stop right in front of him. Jake looked down. The rose lay quiet. Waiting. Jake poked it.

Just then, somebody else got to the table, and Jake forgot about all else. "Jack, hi!" Jake said, brightening when he saw one of his two best friends reach the table. He gave the taller boy a grin and patted the seat next to him. "You're right here, Jack!"

"Ya didn't miss anything really," Jake said, picking the rose up. He'd decided it was probably just a flower. "The professor said it just means something about being a batch-ler......what's that mean anyway?" he asked, since his friends often knew things that he didn't. But when he picked up the rose he saw it came with a card, so he opened it up and began to read...

KISS your Valentine? What?? Jake's eyes widened and he looked up, eyes darting around at his other tablemates. With a blush, the boy turned his card down hastily so nobody else could read it, and stared back down at the table. He didn't even look up when Pericles arrived at the table and handed out bags. He was too distracted to even say thank you.

WHAT were their professors thinking? They were kids! Well, ok, Jake was thirteen now, so not totally a kid REALLY but...well he'd for sure be a kid for a little longer if it meant not having to give this rose to ANYONE. It was one thing he would gladly be too young for. Kissing? Seriously? He didn't even get it. What was even the point of that? He KNEW it was a bad idea to come here.

Nope. Nope nope nope. A million times nope.

"H-here Dealla, do ya want another one?" Jake asked hastily, reaching around Jack and holding his rose across the table. She already had one, so maybe she wanted two! "You can have mine if you want."

SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED!
@Pericles Dralt | @Dealla Prince | @Xailah Alptraum
| @Jake Morris | @Jack Warren | @Haven Bohannon
It seemed that Orion was not finished with his parade of roses just yet, because as the next song started a batch of fresh roses started to descend from the ceiling. This time the roses were white, blending in with the decor but still different enough for the first batch. The roses would glide downwards land only at the tables that had not received any of the first batches; 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 14, and 16. Having already received their roses, tables 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 13, and 15 were now perhaps a bit less confused and could submit their requests to the harpist. (PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOUR TABLE HAS RECEIVED A ROSE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REQUEST A SONG OR SPOTLIGHT THIS ROUND).

Confession Time!

Characters at your table have the ability to step beneath the spotlight and make a confession or dedicate a song to someone this round. To make a spotlight speech, simply have your character announce they wish to confess. You can lightly godmod Orion casting Lumos Duo on your character. Have them say what they wish to announce in your RP post, and make sure to tag the mod in charge of your table. Staff will post the confession into each thread (so keep in mind the entire ballroom will gain IC knowledge of what you are saying).

To request a song, simply owl the moderator of your thread with the song title, who it is going to, and what the message is. You will need to roleplay your character doing as much (you can simply say they took time to write a request down). Please keep IC rules in mind as if your character insults someone there could be IC repercussions.
CONFESSION AND SONG REQUESTS
Several students decided to take the opportunity to confess their feelings. Just not in the... Erm, traditional way. The spotlight would bob its way over to Erin Ryan, who was just announcing how Nicholas McCowan made her feel... Or something?
"Can't remember saying this but it is probably true," not that she actually believed it but where is the potential fun in that? "As I like my boys a bit plump and you ████ need a bit of meat on your bones I AM JUST WORRIED ABOUT YOU, please accept this gift. Also, know I will suck the █████████████ MEANNESS out of anyone that tries to steal you from me." The areas where there were blocked words, well she used her imagination...
The song requests also started to come in...
Anonymous would like to dedicate Space Age Love Song to all the Bachelors and Bachelorettes, go forth and love, you silly kids!
Annie would like to dedicate a song to Serena Towers, Wannabe by the Spice Girls. She adds in, "long time no chat, hope things are going well my friend."
HOW YOU LIKE THESE CUPCAKES?
Although the children had decorated the cupcakes (for the most part) the night prior, Orion had made the cupcakes himself on the night of the 12th. He had put a lot of work into the dozens upon dozens of sweets. Thankfully he was a competent baker after years of crafting late-night pastries. Unfortunately, he was also sleep-deprived, which seemed to be a common problem throughout the night. If anything were to help Orion realize he needed help with his restlessness, it was the Tea Party.

That being said, there was something... Special about a few batches of cupcakes. As the night of the 12th wore on, Orion had become tired and had accidentally used a different ingredient. Amortentia. He had realized his mistake and had gone to toss the batches out, but unfortunately, his sweet tooth got the best of him and he took a quick snack break to munch on some of the sweets the house-elves themselves had made. A common ingredient in their food being a forgetfulness potion. Oh dear, it seemed the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had forgotten all about the cupcakes' secret ingredient.

If anyone were to bite into their cupcake, they might notice it smelled quite possibly like their favourite thing. They just may find the next person who met their gaze to be rather appealing...
Amortentia Rules
1. Consent is important. Please ask your character's victim new sweetheart if it is okay to have your character become obsessed with them.
2. Seeing your own reflection in a teacup is a valid option.
3. For this round only, the length of the effects of the Amortentia is up to you. Taking a bite after this round means accepting the chance that your character might have received an Amortentia cupcake, and your character will be affected for the entire round.
4. If I have missed your character biting into a cupcake, please let me know. From this point on we are asking that if you eat a cupcake, you place the information on the bottom of your post to make it easier for mods.
TIMES UP!
Dee's prince had finally arrived to the event, but she had failed to hand over her rose in time. She would discover the piece of paper that had accompanied the rose would grow warn. The letters would start to swirl, some of them forming a new sentence. It seemed to be her assigned 'valentine'. By the time it was done, the paper read the following;

Your assigned Valentine is @Jake Morris from Table 15. For real.

There were so many things going on, it was starting to get difficult to keep up with all of them! All these fun people, and all the excitement of the night, not to mention the magical roses and the gentle music. And the people! Interesting people who were all around her, and-

"Is that a cat?!" Haven asked Xaliah, utterly in awe of the furry creature. "I love cats! I have a cat back at home! His name is Merlin, and he has the sparkliest fur you'll ever see! Granted, I do spill glitter on him sometimes, but he's so cute! Oh, what's your cat's name? I have the perfect socks for you!" While Haven waited for Xaliah to answer her, she rummaged around in her own bag for a moment before emerging with a pair of socks and handing them to the girl on her left. They were grey ankle socks with little cat faces and little colorful hearts. Haven personally thought they'd be the perfect addition to the girl's outfit... not that she wasn't dressed to the nines already!

"Hi, Dee!" Haven said, acknowledging the girl across who had formally introduced herself. She seemed a little more chipper than the others. Haven was so glad that she was making so many friends tonight. She adored knowing so many people and just being able to say that she knew them. Maybe sometime she could bake cookies for everyone, or... how many cookies would she need to bake to feed the entire school? Probably a lot. She'd have to work all summer.

"I like socks too!" she agreed with Dee, if that much wasn't obvious already. Once again, she hoisted up her bag of wonders, in search for another pair of socks. Her bag certainly had quite a few pairs of socks. Dee now seemed a bit preoccupied with the flower in front of her, so Haven (lightly) chucked the socks across the table in the general vicinity of Dee's head, so she might be able to enjoy the knee-high pair of rose-print socks now in her possession.

There had already been so much commotion, Haven barely noticed that they were missing someone from the table, that was, until that someone came sauntering in and delivered a small treat bag. Haven adored candy! And just about anything you could give her! She would happily take a used shovel! "Thank you so much!" she gasped, turning it around in her hands. "I'm not sure which socks to give you yet! I'm sorry! You'll have the perfect pair by the end of the night, I guarantee!"

With Jake accepting the candy, she happily heaved some onto him. "Of course! Eat it whenever! I have way too much of it." And that was coming from her. Haven loved candy. When she had too much, you knew she had to have a lot in her possession. And that she did. "That's okay, you didn't have to bring anything to share! I have more than enough for everyone." to showcase this, she stood up, went around the table, and gave everyone a heaping handful. Exactly what they didn't need! More sugar! However, the candy she had wasn't nearly as heartfelt as Peri's homemade kind, but there was still plenty of love in it.

"Oh, I have all sorts of socks... They're plenty warm," Haven said, trying to figure out which would fit the boy the best. As he complimented her own choice of tootsie covering, Haven beamed her thanks and a lightbulb went off in her head. The girl was practically glowing like a glow stick. She procured a pair of fuzzy socks (plenty warm for the boy), adorned with little 3-D dog faces at the top. As for the others' socks... well, there was still plenty of night left to figure that out.

As the rose hoopla played out, Haven stared at her cupcakes. She didn't want to be the first to eat them, it felt forbidden... like getting the slice of cake before the birthday person at a party. However, the sweets were staring her down, just like she was eyeing every sprinkle.

"Is anyone else positively dying to eat their cupcake? They look so good!"

Pericles entered right in the middle of Dee's rose-induced breakdown, and she clung to the distraction gratefully. "Oh! Thank you, Peri," she replied, still noticeably flustered. Putting her rose aside (it was looking a little beleaguered now), she opened the box to peek inside and smiled. It was a very Ravenclaw cupcake. Needless to say, she loved it. "Oooh, it's pretty." Setting it down carefully next to her other one, she decided to save it for last. It was too nice to eat right away.

"No, uh, nothing exciting," she replied, trying too hard to seem casual, and pushed the note that had come with the rose below the letters next to her cupcakes. "Just some roses. And apparently you can request songs, or make announcements for other people."

The socks Haven chucked at her hit her in the shoulder and then fell down to her lap, and Dee flinched, surprised at the sudden projectile, then picked them up to inspect them. "Oh! Thank you, Haven." So she hadn't been kidding when she'd said she'd give them socks. They were pretty socks, too, although a little more girly than what Dee usually wore. She grinned, thankful for more reason to ignore Jack and the rose. "I'd put them on right now but they wouldn't be visible because of my jeans, so I'll wear them tomorrow," she promised.

She also wholeheartedly agreed with Haven's sentiment about the cupcakes, so she decided to make the first step (or take the first bite). Everyone was here now, after all, and she'd honestly been ready to eat them from the moment Jake had shown up, she just hadn't had a chance. "Me too," Dee agreed, then reached for the double chocolate cupcake she'd found at her place when she'd arrived. "What's stopping us?"

Perhaps the scent should have stopped her, because for a second, Dee thought she could catch a whiff of sea salt and lemon below the chocolate, but she really had been craving that cupcake.

When Jake held out the rose to her, Dee looked up, her mouth full of cupcake, and blinked. He was giving her the rose? That was so sweet of him! Swallowing, Dee straightened up and set down the remaining cupcake. She could feel her face heating up, a sure sign she was blushing. Jake really was such a nice guy. And he was a prefect, and a duelling captain. They had so much in common! Beaming at him, Dee reached out to accept the rose. "Oh, thank you! Wait, does that mean you're my valentine now?" This tea party was taking an unexpected turn. She'd never thought that Jake would make her heart flutter like this, but here they were. How had she never noticed how cute Jake was before? Good thing she hadn't given her rose to Jack yet! Obviously, she had to give it to Jake now. And she suddenly felt much less nervous about the additional instructions, since Jake had asked her to be his valentine first.

"Hold on!" she announced, picking up her own rose (two of its petals were hanging down sadly and the head was drooping), then hopped up from her place to make her way past Jack's chair to where Jake was sitting, her ponytail swinging. "Here!" she said, holding out her rose to him, and bent down, aiming to kiss him... for real.

Xailah was testing her boundaries, tiptoeing around the lines of conversation which her company provided. Evasiveness earned her questions- a particularly interesting one by Dealla, but one she found herself happy to answer. The pureblood heiress was many things; but she was most notably someone who partook in a lavish lifestyle. One could perhaps call her a "material girl"- if they thought her snobby and shallow. Xailah liked diamonds and pearls as much as the next lady, she could not deny that, but there was always a strange charm to trinkets crafted from plain materials such as plastic. Xailah simply liked things- and not because they had monetary value, or were "in fashion"- objects had stories attached to them. She enjoyed stories. Did miss Prince's strawberries have a story?

Dealla's question may have been rhetorical, perhaps an amiable smile should have been given, and the topic left at that. But Xailah answered her fellow prefect anyway; her voice carrying a calm, genuine note. "I wouldn't like them more than I already do," she claimed; unfolding her hands, and allowing them to flex open in a gesture of reason, "you could tell me that they are made out of paper, and I would still find them quite charming." A simple, honest answer; which was really just a complex way of saying that the earrings would be admired regardless of the mystery material they were made of.

It would seem that the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw's reassurances, helped in easing Jakes mind. Instead of puttering onwards and fretting, like poor pink Piglet, he heard what they had to say. Xailah saw some relief appear on his face, when she and Dealla assured him that there was no required dress code. He then went on to make conversation with the badger on his left. Haven and Jake appeared to be hitting things off. It didn't take much effort to conclude how they got along so well- both were cut from the same kind of weird. They clearly meshed well. Jake would then go on to Inform his friend Jack about what had happened before his arrival, although his explanation was hardly understandable. Xailah certainly lacked a clearer idea of what the roses were for, but that wasn't exactly her problem at the moment. For all she knew, a batch-ler could have been a dozen small butlers. That was definitely what it sounded like.

Not only did miss Haven possess the ability to summon looks, but she could pique ones curiosity without saying much of anything at all. Nearly the moment the girl found herself seated, the subject of conversation would change to socks- yes, it would appear that Xailah was in the presence of proper sock enthusiasts. Socks were great in their own way, seeing that they kept ones tootsies covered and cozy, and they made nice puppets- but she really was more of a glove girl. Yet, she still found herself leaning closer towards Haven, in order to get a better look at the goods the Hufflepuff had brought with her.

Someone would eventually catch the bubbly badgers eye- Schrödinger. The round fellow cooed when the girl noticed him. He blinked slowly, a silent "hello". The child immediately went on to talk about her own sparkly-furred cat at home- which Xailah found endearing. She liked hearing about the pets people owned. The familiars they chose said a lot about them. "Merlin sounds like quite the mystical kitty. Will he be coming with you to Hogwarts one day?" The lioness asked, before turning her attention towards her own cat. "This is Schrödinger. I'm afraid he isn't as sparkly as Mister Merlin." she chortled. "You can pet him if you'd like."

Now, Xailah wasn't sure what to expect from Haven, but she definitely wasn't expecting to be given socks. A pair of little cat socks were coming her way. An intriguing gesture- was exchanging articles of clothing a normal thing children did? Oh, what did it matter- The metamorph had a new item to add to her collection of oddities. Haven has given Xailah a sock! A momentous occasion, truly. Xailah accepted the pair of stockings with a hesitant hand; gripping the things with all the wariness of a dog trying to slip away with it's owners leather loafers. She had caught sight of the little faces on the printed cats, immediately noticing their tiny eyes- unseeing black dots which stared blankly at their new owner. "Thank you." She did not look up to meet Havens face- the girl seemed to be busy handing out socks to others anyway. "I think I may have something these will go with." She didn't, but there was no rule which said fuzzy cat socks couldn't be worn with victorian clothes.

Since she had seen the name tag, Xailah had been wondering when and if Pericles would show. She was certain he wouldn't be making an appearance; but would pleasantly find that time would prove the thought wrong. He arrived- albeit late. He carried some items with him: a few boxes and some bags. His swooshing, white, jacket made him look like a troubled investigator from an old noir movie; who was seeking answers for a case he had been chasing. He did, funnily enough, arrive with questions- although they weren't about some enticing mystery. "Nice of you to show." Xailah purred, eyeing what he had brought. While distributing his gifts, his question was answered by Dealla. Had he missed anything? No, the other Ravenclaw correctly informed. When it was Xailah's turn to receive her gift, she reached out to accept it; her silken fingers brushing against the boxes lid. "You didn't have to bring anything for me." She mused, while trying to guess the contents of the box. Before she could accept the container, professor Alois interrupted the moment with a delivery. Her features began to fall into an unexplainable, neutral expression. Her gaze slipped to the man's hands. The man did not carry her lost goods. Seeing this, Xailah gently pushed away the box Pericles had extended to her, in refusal. She spoke with a smooth, impersonal chill: "Mm. Keep it." She would suddenly appear disinterested in the young ravens offering, turning a hand up to show the gift away. In an attempt to keep her rejection from being questioned, she backtracked to the Ravenclaws inquiry from a few minutes ago. "There was a fire at table thirteen," she droned, "Table three has been rather popular. There is a boy over there... I don't think he will be making it out of here in one piece."

Finally someone would break. Haven would comment about the tantalizing goodies littering the table, claiming that she was just dying to try one. Dealla agreed with the sentiment, and proceeded to pick up one of her cakes, becoming the first to take a bite. Xailah waited, carefully watching the eagle for signs of tampering. The girl wasn't frothing out of her mouth, or trying to ravage anyone at their table- which was admittedly a good sign. Nothing strange yet. The treats must have been okay then. Unfortunately she didn't know Dealla enough to immediately know that something was wrong; and supposed that if everyone was going to eat their goodies, then she should do the same. She had after all, come specifically for the sweets. It would seem like a waste if she didn't touch hers. Looking at the arrangement laid out before her, the cupcake with flames quickly caught her eye. She picked that one up, and brought it to her mouth.

The warning signs did not appear fast enough- but something else would spare her from a unfavorable demise regardless. Blissfully unaware, she undid the paper, and split the cake in half. It was well known by now that Xailah was a strange girl, with equally peculiar subjects of attraction. It was by a freak stroke of luck, that the peculiarities would save her from impending disaster. The piece of cake hovered just infront of her mouth, not yet breaching her lips. She caught a whiff of something- a conglomeration of smells not at all appetizing. She grimaced in confusion, reeling away from her morsel of treat.

What she had unknowingly smelt, was her Amorentia. Hers consisted of a weird mix of scents: licorice, syrup, old rusted metal, and the most peculiar of all- men's cosmetics. The last two were unappealing, when one was expecting the typical aromas that wafted from cupcakes, and were the first to meet her delicate nose. "Ew." The darkling girl frowned, not bothering to elaborate. She eyed her piece of smelly cupcake for a good minute, contemplating if she should take a bite anyway. Her appetite was practically ruined now. She now feared that if she ate her cake she would become sick. So, she abstained from consumption; and set her confectionary onto a nearby napkin.

Somewhere between the internal debate, and consumption of the cakes, was when things would start to get weird. Xailah had thought herself to be amongst a fun group- a semi-normal gathering of faces. Surely none would do anything strange, say for example: get up to snog another member of the table. The Hufflepuff prefect offered his rose to Dealla, perhaps to quickly get rid of it. In turn the Ravenclaw prefect looked to be taken aback by Jakes innocent gesture, and seemed to be on a mission to return the favor. She moved past Jack- the person Xailah suspected Deallas rose had originally been for (only because she had hit him with it)- brushing over him almost as if he didn't even exist. Princes sights were quite clearly set on little Jake Morris. Now that was a plot twist no one saw coming. She stooped, drawing her face towards his weirdly smooth, baby-ish one. Woah- hold on. Xailah did not come here for a front row seat, to see the cannibalization of Jake's face. Unfortunately, the Gryffindor could only watch the scene unfold in quiet horror; eyes rounded, and head cocked in bewilderment. Clearly there must have been something between the two that she couldn't pick up on.

Peri's regard of Hogwarts soirees had followed something of a rollercoaster. In his first year, he had considered them with open-eyed interest, the innocent intrigue of one stepping out from a home-schooled upbringing. By his second year, he regarded them with wariness, having learned firsthand that a concentration of magical students was asking for trouble. Now he attended them for the staggering entertainment value. To be sure, he'd come to this particular tea party in hopes of seeing friends and sharing sweets. Yet the sight of Dee thwapping someone with a flower assured him there'd be ample amusement. He nodded knowingly- point in case- when Xailah mentioned there had already been a fire started somewhere. With a wry smile he took in Jake's flustered reaction to the rose, and once Haven promised him socks of all things, he answered as though there was nothing more normal: a mellow "I'd like that. Here is hoping we find the right... pair." Har har.

Xai had come close to taking his gift, and when she assured he hadn't needed to bring one, he answered with a humble shrug. "Why wouldn't I? It's a tea party, after all." The smile which followed assured it was, by all means, his pleasure. He enjoyed an excuse to dote on the few he considered close. Yet the gesture took a turn for the disappointing: when another cupcake was delivered to his batch, she suddenly turned from her gift, waving it away altogether. A familiar frown pursed his lips. Peri paused, processing, but as ever showed patience for her peculiar proclivities. Fickle as a feline, she came and went as she saw fit, her mind's machinations rarely running linear. He would figure out the cause for it eventually, or wait until she came around again. Until then the decorative box was placed, wordlessly, alongside his own collection.
The delivery:
Pericles had glanced up as a tall figure joined them, soft surprise answering the arrival of @Alois Proulx. When first he attended Hogwarts, Pericles' impression of adults was that they were only to be spoken to when addressed, and otherwise avoided at all costs. His prior experience was predominantly limited to visiting Pureblood Heads. Noble, stern, stiff and curt, incapable of mistake. Yet he'd come to shed his childhood misconceptions, discovering in recent years that adults were not only humans (mostly), but perfectly prone to error. He no longer cringed or cowered when approached by Hogwarts staff, instead sporting an inquisitive smile. “My apologies for the delay, Mr. Dralt, it seems you’ve got another admirer.” There was still some formality required for respect, of course, and Pericles was sure to be genuinely polite as he answered: "No apologies necessary. Thank you, Professor Proulx." Curiosity peaked, he didn't hesitate with this late arrival, promptly opening the card to consider its contents. The kind words within made his smile stretch, never mind that it lacked the sender's name. They had heard correctly, too- lemon was a light, interesting flavor he enjoyed immensely. But there would be plenty of time to indulge in his sweets. For now, he was more interested in distributing gifts, and ironically- unwittingly- had a box intended for his mystery friend. He had spied @Aly Salinger when initially observing the room. Coaxing his white wand from a sleeve, Pericles swished and flicked at the little brown box containing a strawberry cupcake, uttering: "Wingardium Leviosa." Assuming this simple cast didn't go awry, he intended to guide it to her table via magic.
The duellist looked for any excuse to practice.
The table:
If Pericles had come for chaos, he was about to witness his fill. A series of strange events unfolded. For starters, although Xai had spurned his Cupcake of Companionship, she lifted a rogue from the table to her nose. The Ew she illicited piqued Peri's curiosity. Natural, for a thirteen-year-old boy: a friend just smelled something gross, so of course he wanted to investigate it too. "What's wrong...?" This was asked as he extended his hand, questioning. On being passed the treat (action approved by other player), the Ravenclaw took a short sniff, then scrunched his nose. It wasn't a bad smell at all- rather, it was something wonderful. But cupcakes weren't meant to smell at all like fresh rain on mossy stones. He tried for a second sniff of his favorite scent, only to discover it replaced by another ideal: classic old book smell. No, that couldn't be right. Peri surely made a strange sight, what with the intensely focused expression worn while taking deep, investigative inhales. Then the final key clicked. As he recognized the aroma of rosewater, he watched as Dealla- sturdy, reliable, generally very sane Dealla- attempted to plant her face onto one Jake Morris. The boy's jaw dropped. He managed a remorseful "Oh, Dee-!" but wasn't quick enough to intervene.

Dee's yelp had made Jack jump a little as he stood next to her, only for his shoulder to be accosted by the rose-wielding prefect. It was only reactionary to let out a pitiful "Ow! What the heck! That thing has thorns on it!" Of course, he was only playing. There might have been something seriously wrong if a rose would be able to wound him so grievously. Jack couldn't help but smile at Dealla because her face turning the shade of a ripe tomato was too amusing not to let a smirk slip through his bravado. It was super cute, honestly, but Jack would never say that.

One more person was quickly added to the soon-to-be murderous tea party: a former prefectly colleague, Mr. Dralt. With his smirk still playing obviously on his face, the boy would raise a hand and wiggle his fingers. "Heyo Dralt!" Of course, the boy would graciously accept the handed-out sweets from Pericles "You made these by yourself? He would ask before popping a piece of candy into his mouth.

"Jakey, mah man! How're you doin'?" Jack's attention span was that of a toddler. It was hard to keep a single thing in the center of his mind, and his best pal, Jake Morris, didn't help with that fact. Jake's responses to his arrivals anywhere were just the best way to boost the kid's already massive ego. "Oh, mate, a 'bachelor' is a fella' that's open and lookin' for a lovely lady, or mister. You're a bachelor, Jake" Laughing aloud at Jake's naivety. Said naivety exposed even more when he reached out to give Dee the rose he had held.

As Dealla reached out and took a cupcake in her hand, Jack only then realized the literal stack of letters that towered over his nameplate. Oh dang, like Jack knew he was as charming as a picnic in the hills but dang. With the impatience of a dog trying to get a stick from its owner, the boy flipped through the letters.
Through our grand but childish make-believe stories,
I knew I had found a hero and best friend,
Despite belief that I'm an easy quarry,
You're my brother, my love for you knows no end.
Love, Winnie
Winnie knew how to make him smile. They had been going through a rough patch since punching the redheaded twerp, but he was trying to make amends.
You MY BOI. I love you man for real.
-Jake
Tilting his head slightly at the letter, he glanced up at Jake. "Uh, thanks, mate- I love you too, Jake. for real?" The confusion was palpable. He had never seen Jake talk like that, but maybe he was trying to explore his style or something...
Some sustenance so you don't fall off your broom again. Don't feel too bad, even if you were slower than a couple first years.
Been stealing any flowers lately?
- Dee
Of course, the final one only made him quickly turn to a shade of pink. In his most recent broom race, he had fallen from his broom. Maybe it's expected that he would never live that one down. "Dee, it's not like I meant to fall off on purpo-" His own words were cut off by a shouted 'Hold on!' Jack could only catch the fleeting glance of the end of a ponytail as Dee strolled past him and directly towards Jake. A woman on a mission, so it seemed. So the shock that the charming Hufflepuff felt was gut-wrenching. Dee was leaning over to Jake and puckered her lips. SHE WAS GOING IN FOR A KISS! WHAT THE HECK, THAT KISS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR HIM! A rush of envious rage rose in the boy's gut. In an attempt to stop Dee, he would leap up from his chair and stretch his arms out to prevent his crush from kissing his FORMER best friend. Thoughts flooded in Jack's mind, but the main gist of his ideas was one of two things. How he would murder Jake and Freddie in their sleep, and how Jack knew that his innocence was a ploy! The common room bomber had planned to swoop in on his crush and prove that he was better than Jack all along!

LOVELY CUPCAKES
Dee couldn't resist biting into a cupcake. They were such nice smelling cupcakes after all, perhaps reminding her of her favourite thing. Goodness, was it getting warm it here? It seemed the next person she saw would be the object of her obsession.
TRUE LOVE'S KISS?
Dee wanted to get to know Jake better, it seemed, by kissing him... In front of his best friend and the boy who had a crush on her. Awkwaaaaard...

Jake would be caught off guard by how close the Ravenclaw girl suddenly was, he still had a chance to avoid kissing her if he pushed himself to the side. He would fall out of his chair, but his first kiss would be saved! (I consider this an autododge and I am giving Jake the chance to autododge if he so desires).

Jack wasn't going to take this sitting down, however. The former prefect would attempt to grab Dee and stop her from planting her lips on his best friend. Erm, former best friend.

FLOATING CUPCAKE!
After receiving his delivery, Pericles (King of Irony, perhaps) thought to deliver a gift to a friend he'd spotted on the way in. The Ravenclaw would attempt to transport a strawberry cupcake to one @Aly Salinger using the Levitation Charm.

A perfect cast for the prefect! It was practically effortless, the strawberry cupcake was successfully delivered.
PLEASE NOTE: This will be the last mod post as our next in-character event, the Blossom Ball, will be starting within the next few weeks. You may continue to roleplay and feel free to state that your character ate a cupcake and ended up under the effects of Amortentia but we ask that the effects stay strictly within this event. This means you cannot claim your character stole Amortentia laced cupcakes from this event.

However, Orion will be keep an eye on the threads, and there is still a table full of teachers, so please try not to do anything he wouldn't do! ;)

Thank you, and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves!

Jake supposed that Haven probably had a lot of cool socks, but he had no idea just HOW cool until she unveiled the greatest socks the boy had ever witnessed in his entire thirteen years of life.

"Whoa, those are the coolest socks I've ever SEEN!" Jake gushed. They were the best! Adorable dog faces were practically popping out, in a way that he hadn't even known was possible. They seemed warm and fuzzy and comfortable, and they had dogs? "I can really have these...? Thank you!" the Hufflepuff said with a big smile, beaming at Haven. Really, it was way better than any candy could have been. Socks were about the only type of clothing Jake hadn't found a way to get animals on, and his time around the Hufflepuffs had taught him it was ok to wear those types of things if you liked them.

So between the candy, the dog socks, and the cupcakes, everything was going just about as good as any Valentine's Day could have gone until the roses...even when he realized from the conversation that there was a special guest at the table. Schrödinger and Jake had a bit of a history...Secretly he was a bit happy that he and Xailah were on opposite ends. He loved cats, but he didn't think that this particular cat would be very happy to see him.

"What?"
Jake gaped, when Jack told him what a 'bachelor' was and accused him of being one himself. "Aw cmon, no I'm not," he protested, happier than ever that he was giving away his rose before it was too late. He might have been a fella, but he wasn't looking for anyone. He DID feel a little bad for Dealla, but he didn't know that she didn't want one did he? Actually she didn't seem to mind that he gave him one at all...when she took it, her face practically glowed.

"Oh, thank you! Wait, does that mean you're my valentine now?" Dealla said.

"H-huh?" Jake asked, blinking at Dealla. DID it mean that? It wasn't supposed to mean that. Maybe she was just joking or teasing or something. He kinda got teased a lot. But her face was weird. What was he supposed to say...? Jake just shrugged his shoulders, and got back to his seat, where he could just enjoy the cupcakes and be happy he had dodged a bullet with that whole 'bachelor' thing.

But really things were going pretty well. The conversation at the table was pleasant and everybody there was pretty nice, even the ones Jake didn't know. Pericles was in his year and another duel captain, even though they'd never spoken (there were a lot of people Jake hadn't spoken to, since he didn't like to speak too much to people he didn't know) but he was friendly enough. Jack looked at a card and told Jake thank you, and that he loved him too, which was kind of weird. Jake didn't remember giving him a card that said he loved him, although it DID sound like something he would do. Something seemed to be wrong with Xailah's cupcake, but Pericles was looking into that, and anyway, there were more. The rose had almost threatened to ruin Jake's evening, but luckily he'd handed that right off quickly to Dealla. All seemed like it was going to be alright.

But then Dealla stood up, and loudly proclaimed they should all 'Hold On'. And then she left her seat with rose in hand. Was she going to give it to somebody after all? She walked past Jack, walked past Jake...wait...not past...walked to Jake?

Jake stared up at the Ravenclaw girl, as she...handed him a rose? But wait...he had just given it to her, how come she was giving it back? Jake squinted as she started to bend towards him. What was she doing? But she kept coming closer. It took way too long for the alarm bells in Jake's head to ring. Then it was like staring into the headlights of an oncoming truck. And Jake's body (curse it) did what it always did when he got nervous. It froze. As Dealla leaned down, the baffled Hufflepuff could do nothing but stare, helpless to prevent the incoming disaster.

Behind her, Jack would leap from his chair, arms outstretched, no doubt in an attempt to save Jake's life, but he was deftly avoided.

And then, Dealla's lips landed on Jake's.

So it was that Jake had his first kiss, staring up into the horrifying eyes of a lovestruck girl.

It was horrible.

"A...Wh....Wh-what?" the boy sputtered, for a moment too stunned to even wipe off his mouth. What had...she had....Why!!!!

As Dealla's lips left him, Jake's mouth would just hang open dumbly, panic-stricken eyes still staring. Had she been aiming for his lips? Or had it been a cruel twist of fate as Jake had raised his head to stare and she had leaned down? Either way their lips had touched. Jake's face was turning redder and redder by the second. He became suddenly aware of the eyes around him. The eyes on him. Everybody had seen.

Jake covered his mouth, his hand like a shield after what had just happened. The boy sank down in his chair. He could feel his cheeks burning. It had felt like...like...well he didn't even know what it had felt like. Just WEIRD was what it had felt like. He couldn't really even think about it one way or the other, here in front of all these people. He wanted to hide under the table.

The rose. Was it the rose? Of course. He was so STUPID. He'd given a girl a rose on VALENTINE'S DAY. Didn't he learn NOTHING from TV?! Now she probably thought he LIKED her or something. Like LIKE liked. This was all his fault. There was a lot he could have said, like telling her this was all a HUGE misunderstanding, or explaining that he didn't feel the same. Instead...

"WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!" he squeaked.

Jake had a lot to learn about romance.
