Grace may be a half-blood, but she was basically raised like a muggle. She and her older sister, Abbie, attended a muggle school and had mostly muggle friends. They have little to no contact with the magical side of the family, except for their aunt Alaina.

Grace's mother, Amelia Asteria, a witch, hasn't used much magic since she graduated from Hogwarts. She uses a spell or potion sometimes if one of the girls were sick or hurt, but other than that she rarely even carries her wand anymore. She's never said why she gave up magic, and she won't talk about her Hogwarts days.
Despite that, Grace couldn't ask for a better mom. Amelia loves her daughters with all her heart, and makes an effort to stay close with them. She barely says no to anything the girls ask for and often brings home leftovers from the bakery where she works.

Grace's father Daniel Asteria, is a little bit more strict, but not much. He's a high school science teacher at Abbie's school. He tests all his lame science jokes on Grace and Abbie, and likes to call them his princesses, even though they are 11 and 15. He finds the little bits of magic that Amelia does impressive.

Abbie is closer to Grace than any friend could ever be. The sisters share a love for fantasy books and cats (but sadly they can't have a pet cat, their dad is allergic), and are both creative, although Abbie prefers to write and Grace prefers to draw. If Abbie is jealous about Grace's magical ability, she doesn't show it.

Grace and Abbie spent one week each summer at their aunt Alaina's house. Aunt Alaina filled that week each year with stories if Hogwarts and the magical world. She was Grace's only source of knowledge about the magical world.

𝔽𝕚𝕣𝕤𝕥 𝕀𝕟𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕟𝕔𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝕄𝕒𝕘𝕚𝕔
Grace's first instance of magic was a small one. She was seven, and got into an argument over something silly with Abbie and slammed a door from halfway across the room.
It scared both girls. They spent the next 20 minutes trying to figure out what might have caused the door to slam. They couldn't find anything, and neither thought of magic. Her first instance of magic went unnoticed.
