Emma was less than impressed to be on the Hogwarts Express. Before the professor had knocked on her door, she had no concerns about the coming school year, after all she had more than enough friends for her, not to mention her grandfather just down the road. Now, she was on her way to who knows where, where she wouldn't even have the normal technology that would have made it easier to stay in touch with everyone. Now she was having to rely on letters, and honestly she expected that she would lose her best friend since her first year of school. Who would believe that the area she was going to attend a prestigious school (the somewhat lie that her parents had shared and forced her to share) had no way internet, and no cell service. Honestly if she was the one being fed that line, she too would have serious doubts about her friendship.

Sighing, Emma looked out the window as the countryside flew by. She really had thought that this would turn out to be some weird dream or joke. I mean the magic bit was cool, who wouldn't want to have magic, but given that it had taken a bit to be comfortable when she first started school and now would have to start all over again, it did put a damper on things. Thankfully, she had been able to talk her parents into getting to the platform fairly early, at least early enough that she could find a compartment to herself. She knew it would likely not last but better that then asking to share a compartment with others. Trying to decide if she should put on her new uniform as she didn't know how far away Hogwarts was, the need for comfort won out. She pulled one of her well-worn favorites, a Sherlock Holmes collection out of her trunk, hoping against hope that it would help her settle.

Neptune was still in a sort of surprise, having not knowing that the transportation to Hogwarts would be a train. To be honest, Neptune was expecting something a little more... magical and impressive. You might be wondering, 'Oh Neptune, why would you be surprised that your transportation to Hogwarts was a train?' Well, Neptune's older brother, Jasper, and Neptune's mother had decided to not allow Neptune to even see or hear about the scarlet train, wanting their reaction to be genuine. So, here Neptune was, walking around in the Hogwarts Express, trying to find a place to sit after their brother ditched them. Neptune sometimes really hated Jasper. Neptune walked past of loads of filled compartments, other students sitting with their friends. Finally, Neptune found a compartment that only had a girl, reading a book. Neptune opened the compartment door.

"Hi," Neptune said, fiddling with one of the crystal necklaces awkwardly, "I hope you don't mind if I sit here."

Neptune looked at their shoes while waiting for a response. Their anxiety was eating at them. I guess they just had to hope for the best. To try and not be awkward, Neptune looked up at the girl, flashing a small smile, and hoping for a kind response.

Emma had settled after a few pages of her book, letting out a loud sigh and most of the tension at least for the moment. As long as she didn't think about where she was or what she didn't know was coming. She had likely lost most of her friends, and would have to make new ones or be lonely at school. Add that to the whole not knowing anything about the magical world or Hogwarts, and that made a big ball of frustration and tension. Emma could feel her shoulders creeping back up and her neck feeling tight once more. Purposely taking a deep breath in, then letting it out, Emma read a few more pages, getting lost in the book she had read several times already.

Jumping slightly at the intrusion of a voice, Emma closed the collection on her finger, holding the spot for the moment. Though, once her brain caught up with her ears, she placed the bookmark to save her spot. After all, it would be rude to read while someone else was sitting in the same compartment. At least someone she didn't know. "Ummmm...sure, feel free." Waving at the seat across from her awkwardly, Emma turned, placing the book beside her, and then gripped the edge of the seat with both hands looking out the window at the countryside speeding by.

"....soooooo...." Emma started, drawing the word out. "Are you new or?" Probably not the best way to phrase the question but it was already out there so no drawing it back.

@Neptune Emory Yay! Welcome, I'm looking forward to RP with you, :D

Neptune looked at the girl, "Thanks. And yea, I'm a first year, if that's what you meant." They said, answering the girl. Neptune took a seat across from the girl, looking out of the window, to their black converse that had drawings and beads on them, and finally to the rings on their hand, fiddling with them.

"So, um, I'm Neptune, Neptune Emory." They said awkwardly, playing with their rings some more. Neptune wasn't used to talking to people, they mostly just stayed inside and played some popular muggle games. It was also the fact that Neptune has only had two friends their entire life. One, now lived in America, and the other, was their brother, who had decided to ditch Neptune to fend for them self.

"Sorry if I seem so awkward," Neptune said, "I don't talk to many people.

Neptune eternally cringed. Why did they say that? Telling someone who they had never met before, that they don't talk to many people. Neptune just tried to play the previous statement off by smiling at the girl slightly, trying to not be so socially awkward. This is why they stayed inside instead of trying to talk to some of their neighbors.

Emma blushed once more at the person's answer. It had been kind of rude. ".....yeah, that's what I meant. and me too. I mean I'm a first year too." Emma wanted to face palm herself but thought that would just make her look weirder. Looking down, Emma noticed they wore a very cool pair of converse with drawings and beads. She opened her mouth to speak but realized that she had been beaten to it.

"Hi Neptune. I'm Emma Wynn." Emma waved awkwardly at the person across from them, cheeks slightly reddening at how awkward she was. Emma managed to quell the groan that wanted to escape at how awful things were going.

Hurrying to reassure Neptune, Emma quickly said, "No, I'm making this awkward too. Peopling is hard sometimes. Like how do you even just talk to new people? And now we're just expected to abandon our previous lives and make new friends and.....yeah." Emma let her head fall back, annoyed with herself she had let some of her negativity of the whole thing spill out. In order to distract from her words, she added. "soooooooooo.....know anything about Hogwarts?" And there she went assuming this person someone knew anything about Hogwarts when she in turn knew nothing. She was just batting a thousand today. Breathing out a sigh, Emma attempted to think of how this could be rescued or go any worse. One of the two really.

Neptune looked up at the girl, Emma, again, deciding to answer her question.

"Umm... I don't know a whole lot. My family is magical, but decided to not tell me a whole lot because they wanted my reactions to be genuine." Neptune said, "What I do know is that Hogwarts is a beautiful castle, and there are four houses to be sorted into. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Apparently, the house you are sorted into best reflects on your personality traits."

Neptune finished her talk about what they knew about Hogwarts, deciding to look down back at their shoes, short brown hair covering their face. 'Did I talk too much?' Neptune wondered. Neptune shook the thoughts from their head, deciding to lift their head up to analyze Emma. Neptune noticed that Emma had red hair and blue grey eyes. Neptune also happened to notice the Sherlock Holmes book on the seat next to her. Emma seemed like a nice girl. Neptune silently hoped that things would become a little less awkward between the two of them. After a few minutes Neptune spoke up again,

"What about you Emma? Do you know anything about Hogwarts?"

Neptune questioned the girl, tilting their head to the side a bit, waiting for an answer.

Emma was slightly disappointed at Neptune’s answer but only because she would have liked to find out more about what to expect, like what magic they would be learning and what the world was like. She was also kind of confused by their parent’s decision, but she didn’t have all the answers so it wasn’t her business. She was glad to learn that they would be going to a castle, which seemed really cool, and like it would be full of places to go and find some quiet. But she also grew worried at the houses. ”Well, that’s more information than I had so I appreciate it.” Emma smiled at Neptune. ”Though I’m curious if we’ll choose the houses or if it’ll be chosen for us and how. It seems impossible for a stranger to know enough about us to sort us into houses based on personality. That could go horribly wrong.” Emma rambled, but she honestly had no clue how that system would work. Then again, it was magic so it definitely could.

Emma looked down at her legs, and then around at the compartment again, trying to figure out what more to say. She was glad when Neptune spoke. Looking up at them, she said. ”I don’t really know anything about Hogwarts or magic. I’m muggle-born, so…..I’m still a bit shocked by the whole magic is real. I probably should have read some of the books we had to buy, but I dunno, I just didn’t want to.” Emma shrugged, reluctant to admit that she had thought it was some big joke, and hadn’t even wanted to be here. ”I’m sure it’ll be fine though. How hard can magic be?” Emma asked, thinking to herself she needed to think positively.

”What did you do this summer than?” Maybe a bit random, but Emma wasn’t sure what else to say. After all neither knew much about the world they were entering so they might as well learn more about each other. Hopefully that would help with the panic about the whole thing.

Neptune thought for a bit about Emma's last question.

"Well," they said, "I honestly didn't do very much. I mostly just stayed indoors and did stuff inside, like painting. I did end up going to Florida in America though. One of my closer friends lives there now after his mom got a job opportunity."
They thought back to all of the fun times that they shared together this summer. Playing at the beach, getting ice cream, going to an aquarium. Neptune smiled wistfully, small streaks of hair turning a darker blue. Looking down at their shoes, Neptune wished that George still lived not even a block away from their home in Brighton. They missed seeing one of their only friends everyday at the muggle school until he had to move. It was okay though. They would try and see each other during Neptune's next break!

"Even after he moved we still keep in touch! I think we are going to plan to see each other over the next upcoming break!" Neptune said, before suddenly becoming aware of how much they had said, not even really pausing to give Emma a turn to speak. Anyways, enough about me and what I've been doing. What about you, did you do anything fun?"

Emma kept focused on Neptune, not wanting to be distracted and lose half of her answer. Sometimes when she drifted off into daydreams, she would hear what they were saying but it would take a minute for her brain to figure it out, but other times, she just didn’t know what was going on. She wasn’t sure yet if they would be a friend or not but she wanted to give it her best shot, and it would be nice to know someone by the time they arrived at the school. Emma grinned at Neptune, excited for her answer ”That’s cool! What do you paint?” Emma asked, and then jumped on her statement about traveling. ”What was Florida like? I’ve never been outside of a few places in Europe really. Is it like it is on TV, all sand, ocean and fun?” Emma shot the questions rapidly, jumping on to whatever she could to keep the conversation going but also in curiosity over Neptune’s travel.

Emma’s summer had been boring in comparison really. She had spent most of it hanging out with friends, her grandparents and reading. Her parents had taken a couple of weeks’ vacation so they could go camping, which was fun, but other than the family activities and a few times her mom or dad had done things with only her, she had spent most of the time lazing about reading. Then the end of summer had been all tense, and everyone had been sniping at each other, so not a good way to end things especially when Emma was now going to be away for several months. But that topic made Emma sad, so she tried to shake it out of her head.

”That’s awesome! It’s always nice when friendships can handle distance like that.” Emma pondered what to share, but then decided it would be simple enough to detail. ”Oh, not much. Nothing as exciting as Florida. I spent most of the time with friends or my grandparents or reading outside as much as possible. My parents took me and the twins camping in the countryside for a couple of weeks, and that was fun. We did swimming, and board games for when it rained. We stayed in a rather large tent that’s kind of got its own little areas so it was nice to not be all squished together.”

Neptune listened to Emma talk about her summer, answering questions here and there.

"Oh, I like to paint landscapes and sunsets. They are very pretty. I'll also occasionally do portraits." Neptune said, their short hair starting to turn a light blue, "And Florida is pretty cool! There are lots of sands, and beaches, and other stuff. It can be quite humid and hot though."They said, telling Emma about their paintings and Florida before letting her continue to talk.

Neptune nodded along with what Emma was saying, including a small 'Yea' when Emma mentioned their friendship with George. They decided to wait after Emma was done talking about camping with her family.

'She must have twin siblings. Emma mentioned twins,' Neptune thought.

Neptune waited until Emma was finished talking before speaking again.

"You've been camping! I've never gone camping before!" Neptune said, as their hair continued to turn more and more light blue. "Sorry, it just seems like a lot of fun." Neptune apologized before asking their final question.

"You mentioned twins," Neptune said, "Do you have twin siblings or cousins by any chance?" They said, tilting their head a bit.
