2022, Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 6

Somehow distracted by the uncomfortable tickling feeling, her spell missed her target, but Phaedra did not. A Flipendo jumped right towards her, and Lindsey was not lucky enough to dodge it. Samantha took the same strategy, but she noticed it and quickly stepped out of the spell’s way. She wasn’t feeling so well now - Phaedra’s spell was particularly strong, and it seemed that she was near the terrible fainting soon. Grabbing her wand, Lindsey bit her lips. Lucia hadn’t secured her wand back yet, and this was certainly not a good thing for the badgers.

What was the saying, again; less is more? Aiming for solely one person proved to be exactly what she needed to get a grip on her nerves. Ducking from Lindsey's scorching fire, Phaedra sprang back up and returned a Flipendo in the girl's direction. It connected, sending her backwards, and from the looks of it, just a few more of those would put Ravenclaw in a spectacular position.

As Lucia searched for her wand, the two eagles aimed at Lindsey. Apparently Phaedra had the same idea as Samantha, as they both cast a flipendo. Great minds think alike, popped up in Samantha's head. She liked the idea of having a great mind.

Sadly, her spell missed and only Phaedra's flipendo hit her target. "Nice one," the second year told her dueling partner. Her spell hadn't hit, but the brunette had learned to not get too annoyed. She needed to keep her head in the game, maybe she would hit her next spell.

The stage was tense, focused. Even Lucia, in her relatively simple act of stepping toward and picking up her wand, moved with efficiency. Unfortunately for her, the positive note of being able to rejoin the action was about to be severely soured. She was not quite fast enough.

Lindsey seemed to know her time was limited. She was in touch with her body, and sensing the exhaustion settling in, made the choice to just try to last until she had Lucia's support. But even with all her energy going toward it, moving quickly while she ached and needed to catch her breath was easier said than done, and Phaedra was leaving no room for error. With terrifying speed, her Flipendo rocketed into the Hufflepuff, a square hit to the chest.

Samantha had been ready to provide a second hit to hedge their bets, and it was truly an impressive work of magic, a bright blue that almost hurt to look at. To Bridget, it looked like maybe she'd noticed that Lindsey was starting to fall from Phaedra's Flipendo, and concluding another hit would be excessive, switched her aim for Lucia at the last moment. It would have been great if it worked, but such a move was extremely hard to pull off. Or maybe it was simply the sheer power flowing through her wand that pushed it off course; whatever the case, her impressive handiwork would fly past the Hufflepuffs to dissipate anticlimactically.

And as the figurative dust settled following the impressive display of one of a duellist's most basic spells, Lindsey would be on her feet no more. "Stop!" she called quickly, and after waiting a second to be sure Lindsey wasn't going to rally herself back to her feet--no, she was out cold--waved for the medics to move her off the stage. Being out first was never fun, but hopefully she would be proud of herself; with all the hits she'd landed, it hardly looked like this was her first duel.

With Lindsey cleared, Bridget retook her spot off to the side of the platform. "That's the halfway mark," she noted, checking the timer. If they'd forgotten amidst the action, this was their reminder they only had so long to make their mark. "Alright, resume."

Samantha didn't have the best record for spells hitting in this duel. This round she missed again. The brunette had put all her focus in her casting, she made sure to perfectly perform the wand movement and pronounce the incantation just right. Her hard work paid off and the spell looked powerful, yet she still missed. All her focus had been on casting the spell and she hadn't concentrated enough on her aim. Her original target had been Lindsey, but she noticed that Phaedra was already aiming at her. Samantha had to improvise as she didn't want her great spell casting to get lost. She switched her target at the last moment, making it harder to aim. She had expected too much from herself. The spell hit nothing but air.

Being too focused on her failure, the young girl hadn't noticed the great work her dueling partner had done. Well, great for her team, not so much for the Hufflepuffs. When Bridget called the duelists to stop, Samantha put down her wand and turned to Phaedra with a big smile on her face. "High five!" the brunette said cheerfully as she held up her hand.

Before the duel continued Bridget reminded everybody that they were halfway. "It took us one half to get the first one out, so we should be able to get Lucia out in the other half, don't you think?" she directed her question at Phaedra. Samantha was very competitive and this was the first official duel she was even close to winning. In the last duel, she had lasted only one round longer than her partner before her world went dark as well.

Deciding to switch her tactic into actively dodging, Lindsey’s eyes fixed on her two opponents. She wasn’t feeling so well, and it seemed that the best she could do was to try to remain in the duel and wait for Lucia to rejoin it. She lowered her wand, and actively jumped around. Her body was aching, and she had to stop from time to time to catch a few breaths. Though she thought she could do this. Glancing over Lucia, she was pleased to see that the latter was picking up something - probably her wand - good. They still stood a chance.

But still she underestimated her opponents. Phaedra, as a rather experienced and capable duellist, was much powerful than Lindsey had once regarded. Even though she was fully on guard, a Flipendo still hit her right in the chest. However, she wasn’t able to endure it this time - already being hit several times, Lindsey felt that her stamina was running low. Every single bone in her body was aching, and she felt dizzy.

“Kay, Lindsey, I've got it, I'm coming-” came Lucia’s voice, and that’s all she had heard before fainting. Almost at the same time she fell to the hard floor, leaving her partner alone in the fight, and finishing her very first duel being the very first eliminated. First plus first, what nice combination.
