2022, Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 6

Spell Spread required immense concentration. The farther two opponents stood apart, the more difficult the split. But a narrowed angle on quick notice was no easy feat either. When Lucia blindly hopped in front of Lindsey, Phaedra twitched her wand considerably in order to compensate for the sudden move. Or at least that was her explanation for what happened next. While one red beam hit Lucia head on, the trajectory of the other somehow veered towards her partner. She inhaled and waited. Expelliarmus was possibly one of the worst spells for friendly fire.

Luckily, her junior would make it out unaffected, side-stepping the beam sent in error. Not so lucky was Samantha's Ventus fizzling out at the tip of her wand in the process. Although it was an advanced spell for the second year, having to dodge Phaedra's surely did not ease her attempt. Phaedra sent her a repentant look, quick enough to miss if one blinked, and faced the Hufflepuffs.

On the other side of the piste, Lindsey was back in action now, her blindfold loosely discarded. It was disappointing to miss out on what was practically a still target, sure, but this was a duel. Things went wrong sometimes. Phaedra did not appreciate the obvious reminder but opted to keep her mouth shut and simply perform better next time. For what it was worth, Ravenclaw wasn't doing too badly. All they had to do now was keep their grounds while they were ahead.

Lindsey was, finally, able to rejoin the fray, having dealt with two blindfolds, one right after the other. She perhaps had some steam to blow off from that, and no shortage of time to plan her next move. Ready, aim, fire; a Flipendo shot from her wand to strike Phaedra, who wasn't quite fast enough to get out of the way. The fifth year had taken quite a few hits, but it didn't look like fatigue was setting in yet, and her partner was completely untouched.

Speaking of Samantha, she may not have been as flashy as Phaedra, but she was chugging along quietly, making the Hufflepuffs pay for leaving her alone. Unlike her Ventus, the Tickling Charm went off fine and landed even better, restoring her streak of hits on Lindsey. The badger would be subjected to the rather painful whims of invisible fingers digging into her sides. Perhaps she was ticklish and would laugh reflexively; if not, it would still be a distraction.

Phaedra would once again opt for a spell spread, this time tapping into the element of water. Much like her last attempt, it didn't go as intended. The first stream missed Lindsey, who was not about to let herself be hit by two spells. The second, once more, veered to Samantha, though was clearly not purposefully sent her way; Samantha wouldn't even need to move for the water to splash past. Perhaps her thoughts were stuck going toward her partner? It was odd to see such a skilled duellist have the same hiccup twice in a row. At least it hadn't done any harm.

And lastly, quietly, Lucia removed the blindfold that had been on her face for quite a while. Phaedra's mistake had been a boon for her, escaping the blindness without further harm. Now she just had to locate her wand, hopefully quickly, so she could help her teammate.

Spectator Thread

The two teams exchanged spells with, yet again, no success from Phaedra. While the first miss could have been excused as an uncharacteristic blunder, it was now obvious that her head wasn't in the game. She gripped her wand with white knuckles. Perhaps she was in a rush—with one Hufflepuff previously blinded and a new time limit in place, Phaedra's chase of opportunity was turning reckless. The heat emitting from her wand was just another warning. Slow down. Focus.

“I did.” she answered calmly, watching her Flipendo making its way to Phaedra and giving her a solid hit. Dodging the older duellist’s spell in the meanwhile, she saw Lucia removed her blindfold. On the other hand, Samantha was being much luckier than her housemate - a tickling charm hit her, giving her an almost painful feeling. Thankfully she wasn’t ticklish, but it was super distracting - ugh, Lindsey just hoped this spell could end as soon as possible.

After she failed her last spell, Samantha decided to go with something she was more familiar with. A spell she had successfully cast in her as her first spell in her first official duel, rictusempra. The young girl was satisfied when she saw her tickling charm hit Lindsey.

Even though none of the opponents targeted her, there was still a spell coming her way. When she realized her dueling partner had cast the spell, Samantha just rolled her eyes. This time she didn't say anything, though she was extremely annoyed.

Between the blindfold and her wand sent flying, Lucia had been quite effectively taken out of the action for a while. Bridget wondered if there was a clock counting down in her head, if not for the literal timer on the duel then on how long Linsdey could last facing both Ravenclaws alone. It wouldn't be a case of her wand having settled somewhere nearby, either; she had to really look around for it. But, there it was, a few steps away. Just a little longer and she'd have it securely in her grasp.

Lindsey, to her credit, was doing well on her own. She was landing solid hits on Phaedra, appearing cool and collected. That became a little harder to keep up once the Tickling Charm took effect, the fire she sent at Phaedra lacking the precision she'd displayed so far. Besides, there were two spells coming at her. It took immense skill and experience dealing with such situations to pull off multiple dodges and get your spell to land.

Two Knockback Jinxes was the classic, brutal double attack. If Ravenclaw could take out Lindsey before Lucia grabbed her wand, they'd be in excellent shape. She'd taken a few hits already, both spells hitting might even be enough. Phaedra pulled back from her spell-splitting, and a return to the basics seemed to be the right move; her spell didn't fly for Samantha this time, hitting its intended target squarely and sending the badger staggering back. As for Samantha, she missed for the first time this duel, but her spell was still right there and no doubt factored into Phaedra's success. Lindsey could avoid one, but that put her right in the way of the other.
