hi imma pop in here for a hot sec just because this comment was very insensitive and honestly made my heartbreak for all the people who have been murdered for being queer or sent to conversion therapy. I am going to put the rest of this in reducio as a trigger warning for homophobia, general mental illness, and religious trauma.

okay so basically I want to touch on a few things I have noticed in this community, touching on how some write about and speak about topics like mental illness, familial trauma, homophobia etc. i think a large part of this is due to an influx of younger members, which while there is nothing wrong with being younger, you may just not understand the severity of your comments.
Conversion therapy, the topic that kind of is the last straw, is not therapy. It is where a person (often a child or teen) is humiliated, degraded, and oftentimes abused in some capacity --> verbal, physical, emotional or sexual. It is honestly not 'fun' or 'quirky or 'spicy' to add this to your character's life. To start with, real-life triggers of this sort are never okay without large, clear warnings, permission from others you are threading with, and from staff. If you think something is too violent, chances are it is, but always ask staff. For many, including myself, HiO is a safe place to go to escape the toxicity of real life, and coming onto site to see this, it hurts. This community is also very queer. I will never speak out against religion or someone's beliefs, but, if you speak in hate, I will have issue with you.
In addition to this comment, there has been an influx of characters who have mental illnesses. I, as someone with a myriad of diagnoses, am all for the representation of anxiety, OCD, depression etc in adolescents. That being said, depression is not simply being sad, OCD is not being clean and anxiety is not be worried. There is so much more to all of these experiences.

Overall, I want this community to stay safe. If you have any questions about this please owl me or dm on discord ~ pastel princess#5581. I am happy to help with sensitivity readings or point you to someone who may be better than I am, I am happy to assist in research as well on any of these topics or others. I also do not want anyone to think this a direct comment against them, but rather me sharing some thoughts on a pattern I have seen emerging over the [last few months.

Just to add on to what @Draven Mirador and @Ivy Bellamy said, thank you so much for pointing it out Avery. For everyone else in here- I know this information can be easily ignored, coming from someone who isn’t a staff member or authority figure as well as being in a relatively fast-paced thread, but it’s really important to make sure that the content you put out here is safe and help contribute to a welcoming space. We have a lot queer people, and it would really break my heart to see anyone - especially our LGBTQ+ friends, but this also goes out to anyone and everyone - hurt because of something they saw or read on our site. It’s our responsibility as a community to make sure that HiO is somewhere people can go to without having to be afraid. While it may not be intentional (and usually isn’t), it’s important to keep this in mind. So please, please be aware of what you’re putting out there, and understand your topic well if you are dealing with something sensitive. And also do not be afraid to reach out to our staff members if you have any questions or concerns; I am sure they would be delighted to help.
