She couldn't do this anymore.

Ivy walked up the stairs of the Owlery, letter clutched in her left hand, right hand trailing along the handrail that ran along the wall. Her cat, Adelaide, accompanied her. To everyone else, she looked fine, happy even, but on the inside she was torn apart with inner turmoil. She was on her way to deliver a letter pleading her parents to let her go back to Beauxbatons. Meeting her dead sister's doppelganger in the form of a redheaded Ravenclaw yesterday was the last straw for her. Now she didn't just not want to stay, she knew that she couldn't. She felt like she might go mad if she did.

God, she felt so pathetic - bailing out when she hadn't even been here for a whole week yet. All she had wanted to do this entire time was to leave, but in a way, she had tried. At least, that's what she told herself as she climbed the stairs to the second landing. She'd signed up for Quidditch when she saw there was an open spot, and she'd tried to make friends, she really had. She'd even begun to look forward to the Quidditch match - she was second-string, meaning she'd likely be benched for the game, but she was still on the team and, like, participating or whatever. That had to have counted for something, right?

All that had gone away when Juniper Kelly's path had crossed hers, leaving her in complete and utter shock. She thought she was done with creepy doppelgangers when she came back - Ana had dyed her hair blonde while Ivy's own hair had gone wavy. But she should have known it was never going to be that easy. Ivy was over it. So fucking over it. She stopped on the stairs and looked out at the view - the sprawling green grounds, the fairytale-like architecture of the castle, the quiet, comforting murmur of chatter coming from the corridors below...

Fuck you, Hogwarts, she thought to herself bitterly. Fuck you.

Her attention was suddenly diverted away from her own problems when Adelaide decided to run off, almost tripping her up in the process. "Wh-" Ivy leaned against the wall to steady herself, eyes following her grey cat up the stairs for a second before chasing after her. Goddamn it. It was getting dark, too. "Adelaide, come back! Hey!"

It was barely 7pm.

Felix was doing his best to conceal the way his blinks tended to last for a tad too long, and the way his head would occasionally tilt forwards and throw him off balance as he desperately fought to stay awake.

The candle on his desk had been reduced to nothing more than a pool of milky white wax with a flicker of dwindling crimson. The half-written letter sitting in front of him had been crumpled slightly at the edge, where he had dragged his elbow across the table to rub at his tired eyes. He had pulled an all-nighter the night before and was now starting to feel the consequences of his foolish behaviour after a day's heavy school work. Deciding that the dim-lit, cosy atmosphere of his dorm room wouldn't make it any easier to concentrate, Felix blew out the candle, plunging the room into darkness as he turns in his desk chair and stands, swiping his half-finished letter from his desk before turning and slamming his dormitory door shut behind him.

The owlery stairs seem long and winding, and his legs screech out in protest as he begins to climb; a sudden deal of movement in comparison to the four hours he spent sitting at his desk in his room.

The place reeked of, well, owls obviously, and there are droppings and feathers everywhere. Felix has a moment to be disgusted by how under-kept the place looks before something furry and grey obscures his vision and he feels a sharp pain cut into the back of his hand.

Swearing colourfully, Felix withdrew his hand in a flash, cradling it at his chest. He turned on his heel, confusion clouding his vision, wide eyes sweeping the owlery before locking on the figure of a girl.

He allowed himself to blink. Once. Twice.

His short temper might have been due to his lack of sleep, since he was hardly short-tempered by nature, but quite usually calm, cool and collected.

His outburst echoed through the owlery, each of his words stringing malice and the sting of being caught off guard. [Otherwise, he would have been prepared and fucking slapped that cat to the ground.] A harsh predatory glare decorated his handsome visage as he abruptly took a stride towards the girl as though he was preparing to jab her in the face with his finger. [He'd, quite conveniently, left his wand back in his dormitory.]

“WHAT THE FU-” Pause. Breathe. “Who. The. Fuck. Are. You. And do you normally hide in dark corners of owlery's, waiting to use your cat to attack harmless individuals?!”

The way he was sneering at her did not quite radiate the aura of a 'harmless individual'.

She was shorter than him, though by only a head or so. She looked to be a third year, maybe even a fourth year. Fatigue glistened in her eyes and she seemed to radiate small waves of ‘im fucking done with life’. Her hair fell in dark, slight waves, framing her pale face; and her lips were akin to the colour of ripe cherries. Her eyes at first glace might appear to be blue, but were really a shade of grey. They glimmered when they caught the light of the sunset, which shone through the window of the owlery. She was very pretty aside from looking grouchy, tired, vain and mean. Not that Felix cared. He had enough handsome features to rival her own.

He absentmindedly felt the rustle of paper at his side, and unclenched the fist holding his letter; it was now even more scrumpled than it had been before.

Oh, for the love of Merlin. Ivy cursed her decision to get a cat as a pet as she ran up the steps of the Owlery. No doubt Adelaide had seen a mouse or insect or some other kind of small animal and decided to chase it. She was usually pretty calm, but for some reason, whenever she saw some tiny animal of prey, she couldn't resist chasing it.

Ivy arrived at the top of the stairs just in time to see the aforementioned cat pounce at an unsuspecting student, prompting a bout of swearing. "Adelaide, NO!" Too little, too late. The cat had already slunk into the shadows, no doubt still sniffing around for whatever poor animal had been her target, leaving her owner to deal with the repercussions of her behaviour. Ivy sighed internally as the boy spun around and locked eyes with her, wondering what she was supposed to say. Ugh. She was too tired for this. She held his gaze coolly, brow furrowed slightly with concern. For someone whose cat had just attacked a stranger, her expression wasn't exactly the most panicked or sympathetic.

She was about to apologise when he began to speak, words practically dripping with venom. If they had met under different circumstances, one where her cat had not attacked him and where she was not so exhausted, she might've stopped to register just what a pretty boy he was. However, seeing as he sounded like he was two seconds away from throttling her, she was hardly concerned with his physical appearance.

For a moment Ivy's eyes widened at his outburst, a look of unease flashing across her face. This is where you say sorry and move on, she told herself, but something about the way he was sneering at her, something about the way he had spoken just ticked her off. Maybe the lack of sleep was clouding her judgement, but all of a sudden, she decided that there was no way she was going to apologise to him, even if she was in the wrong.

"For your information," she sniped, the annoyance in her voice rising with each word, "I wasn't waiting in the shadows to attack you. This isn't my fucking fault, dickhead. My cat ran ahead of me. If she hurt you - accidentally," she put an emphasis on the last word, "then stop acting like a child and go see the nurse. Now move. I have a letter to send." Ivy folded her arms across her chest and matched the boy's glare with one of her own, disdainful and full of heat. She didn't know who this boy was yet, but she already didn't like him.

“This isn't my fucking fault, dickhead. My cat ran ahead of me. If she hurt you - accidentally”

His shock at her attempt to defend the furry monster was showing far too candidly on Felix's expression. He wiped his visage clean of his surprise and resolved a rather bored-looking expression.

“Are you selectively blind? Did you not just see your cat attack me?”

He rolled his eyes, leaning on the beam next to him and holding out his hand in her direction. The blood trickled down the side of his palm and wetted the letter he was holding, staining it a bright red. It was only a minor injury, but it still stung.

“Mind telling me what this looks like darling He smirked. “-because from my perspective, I can quite clearly see the effects of your lack of control over that monster of a thing.”

He then turned, angling his head to inspect the cut on his hand, his elegant fingers catching the sunlight as he turned his hand over, and over again. He shrugged nonchalantly, a rather raw gesture for someone as refined as him. Maybe the brash, mushy behaviour of some of his fellow Hogwarts students was starting to rub off on him.

“It's only a small cut. I don't care"

Felix so clearly, did care.

He decided he might just ignore her and finish writing his now blood-stained letter to his parents, well, parent. However, that thought flew right over his head when he heard her command him to move out of the way.

His head whipped back around so fast, that he heard it crack.

Now move. I have a letter to send.

“What. A. Shame.” His voice was laced with sarcasm and fake sympathy. “You know what?” He poised, his hand on his chin, as though he were deep in thought. “I think I also have a letter to send. Isn't that crazy? What are the chances?” He smiled sweetly at her, a smile that quite usually won the admiration of many people. He would rather have given her a foul gesture and told her exactly what she could go do to herself, but he didn't. Who the fuck did she think she was? Commanding him to do such things. Girls were so stupid sometimes. He wanted to hurl something at her. Instead, he took the classic, teenage-boy, passive-aggressive route. Side-stepping the owl-droppings, he came to stand in front of her, blocking her from moving any further. He had drawn quite close enough that another step forward and he would be shoe to shoe with her.

“Try getting past me now, sweetheart.”

Seriously, fuck this guy.

"Are you selectively blind? Did you not just see your cat attack me?"

Ivy gritted her teeth. She was so ready to get the hell out of this godforsaken school and never come back. At Beauxbatons she had friends, and at the very least there were no boys like him. He was making it sound like her cat was some wild tiger who had mauled him in a dark alleyway and left him paralysed for life or something. She couldn't help but let out a disdainful laugh as he held out his hand for her to see. It was literally only a scratch. Ivy rolled her eyes at his next words, which accused her of having no control over a "monster" and claimed that he didn't care (bullshit), and bent down to pick up said monster, who had padded over silently to sit at her feet.

"Sweetheart," she said sarcastically, stroking the top of her cat's head, "are you really so weak and cowardly that a mere scratch from a cat can send you into such a state? Honestly, don't even go to the Hospital Wing at this point. They'll just laugh in your face and send you away. You're being a baby." She would admit that she was being unnecessarily spiteful at this point, saying whatever mean thing popped into her head first. But really, could you blame her? From the moment they'd met, this boy had been nothing but awful to her. Even though he was the one with the injury, Ivy was ok with being mean, because he wasn't being a very nice person either.

His mockingly sweet smile did nothing to soften her heart. She simply rolled her eyes at him and sighed loudly, wanting nothing more than to punch him in his stupid face. She wasn't really all that pissed off now, more so just sick of his shit. All she wanted to do was send her letter. Was that really so much to ask?

Apparently it was. Ivy looked daggers at him as he blocked her path, contemplating whether she should throw Adelaide at him to make him leave. They were now uncomfortably close, but Ivy refused to take a step back. It was so petty, but it honestly felt like if she stepped backwards, he would win. "Get out of my way," she snapped. "I'm not in the mood for any of these games." If he didn't move, she would push him out of her way with her free hand. It wasn't a very hard push, just firm. The worst that could happen was a stumble. "Try blocking me again, and I'll hex you," she warned. Whether he heeded this warning would be his choice.

Felix’s facade flickered ever so slightly as he watched the girl stroke the monster's head. His eyes narrowed so slightly, before flickering back to her. His eyes caught the red colour of her tie on their retreat back, and he inwardly groaned. “Not a damn gryffindor.” he muttered under his breath, staring absentmindedly at her tie as she began to talk, saying something about-

“Games? This isn't a game sweetheart” he threw the pet name back at her before arching an eyebrow, forgetting about whatever house she belonged to. Shifting slightly, his robes fell across his tie to shield it from view. He didn't want her to know he was a hufflepuff. Being a muggle-born, Felix hadn't known which each house symbolised prior hogwarts. Upon his arrival at Hogwarts, and after many novels and literature on the history of Hogwarts, he found himself wishing he was in Slytherin, or Ravenclaw, where he felt his traits aligned. He envied the other children in other houses and despised how everyone in his house seemed to fit in. How the fuck was he in hufflepuff, with an attitude and personality like this? He was almost the polar opposite of kind itself. He reached for his pocket, fingering the material before cursing himself. His wand was back in his dorm. He told himself it wouldn't make much of a difference anyway- he didn't think he was that experienced in hexes and jinxes- in comparison to this girl. Nevertheless, he let her warning float through one ear and out the other, as if he stood a chance against her when he was wandless. Maybe he just wanted to see if her threat was empty or not? Had he even been hexed before? No. What was it like? He supposed it might be quite unpleasant and painful to one's dignity. Was he really going to risk it, just because being a dickhead seemed quite delightful in this present moment? Yes.

“Go on then pretty thing, Lets see what you’ve got.”
