Ravenclaw v Hufflepuff Broom Race Jan 2022

Ari woke with two hours to spare Sunday morning. He was well aware of the morning's events that were taking place soon. It was to be the very first Broom Racing matches of the year, and it would be his house, Ravenclaw, facing off against Hufflepuff. And he was in charge of his team.

He rushed through breakfast at the Great Hall, then took a quick shower. As much has he wanted to get down to the race early, he still had to make himself presentable. After donning some warm and comfortable clothes, he was ready to roll, so he grabbed his broom and headed outside.

He was prepared for what the race would hold, but he was definitely not prepared for the blast of cold that hit his face when he opened the door. It sent a bone-chilling shiver through his body. This was going to be definitely uncomfortable.

The closer Ari made it to the starting line, the more he noticed how jittery he was. He forced himself to take deep breaths in an attempt to calm his nervousness. It felt strange. He was never nervous. Maybe the weight of his role was finally getting to him. He couldn't let it consume him though, or else he would fail.

He mounted his broom and moved it slowly to the starting line. He took another deep breath before he met the eyes of his fellow teammates, giving them all the same handsome, reassuring smile. They were all first years, lead by a second year whom Ari had come to appreciate dearly. Then, he turned his attention to the Hufflepuff team, a mixture of different years of schooling formed together. He was familiar with a few of them, and he did not underestimate their abilities.

However, he would not let their skill make him feel inferior. A swell of pride rose in his chest, a determination to show them what he could do.

Ari was set to win, and he was going to win fair and square.

And then he heard a voice from the spectating area call his name. He looked up to see Juniper Kelly, another first year Ravenclaw that he had taken interest in back at the Samhain ball. He truly thought the world of her, and he would do his absolute best to make her proud.

Moderation Post

Sunday, 10 am. What a beautiful time for late risers to go and watch the second race of Hogwarts that was to start any moment now, enough time for a nice breakfast before at the very least. If it was only a bit warmer, perhaps some of the spectators would even have been tempted to come to the match in their sleeping wear.

That was of course not the case for the ten racers who had assembled at the starting line, cheered on by their houses and friends. Perhaps having watched yesterday's race gave the racers an advantage or at least some courage, they did have an idea how things could be going today- or perhaps not. The weather had not changed, though the race had; It looked as if everything was as unpredictable as it had been yesterday.

Maybe that was the reason why the hooded moderator of yesterday's race had not succumbed to boredom yet and announced this one with the same enthusiasm- and the same amount of fabric wrapped around them. "Welcome to the second race of the season, Hufflepuff against Ravenclaw!" Dramatically throwing their hands in the air they waited for the applauding spectators to calm down again and turned to the racers. Most of them were still rather young, children really, with the occasional almost-adult in between.

"SHALL WE SEE WHO RULES THE SKY TODAY? BADGER OR- ... EAGLE?" Realizing the rather odd sound of their question a little too late, they cleared their throat and decided not to comment on it. "ALRIGHT THEN- READY, SET, FLY!" Signalling the beginning of the second race, they made haste to clear the field for the racers to be able to start undisturbed.

"Alright, alright. But wear your knee pads. And helmet," She warned Jack, before the boy decided to go onto the race track ill-prepared. Of the people in the team, she was most worried about him. It was not his first time, nor was he lacking in talent and skill. It was nothing to do with his age or that they were friends. It was simply because she knew him. He was reckless! He was the type to go 'oh, Whomping Willow, let me see if I can just fly right through the tree trunk and blast a hole through it!' rather than attempting to fly around or through the branches. She did not want to see him attempt to make a Jack shaped hole in the tree. At least not without wearing some protection.

Circling each arm by her shoulder, one by one, she stretched each. With that, she stretched her neck a little, tilting her head left and right before mounting onto the broom. Glancing over to Jack, she smirked, "Bet I get past the Willow before you," Serena joked as she positioned herself at the start of the race. Kicking off, she took to the skies. On the signal, she flew! It was go time.

Lin smiled as she heard Juni and Sophie's encouragement. She got on her new broom and stood between Clair and Victoria. She was ready to go. Very stressed, but ready. Ravenclaws were going to win this race. It was her first race, she was ready to do anything to win. Obviously without cheating.
With one foot firmly on the ground, she waited for Opeila's signal. As soon as the word "FLY" was uttered, Lin propelled herself with a kick.

As she heard the should to start, she grabbed her broom tightly and kicked off the ground right into the air, letting the game begin.
