2021, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 1 fin

With Galton gone, Phaedra put her mind where it mattered and ducked from Alan's spell. Circling her wand above her head, she cast the healing charm to split. The sensation allowed her to stand without a grimace, lingering pains better alleviated. With her opponent outnumbered and time on her side, she felt enticed to completely undo the onslaught Gryffindor had done earlier... but this duel had gone on for long enough. Time to stop stalling and start hitting.

It seemed like the Ravenclaw team was still working on defense rather than offense despite having one opponent. Aida tried her spell again and was successful, clouding the piste in a thick smokescreen that left Willow's eyes searching for the duellists within. Phaedra attempted to heal herself, and in good time too. Alan hit Phaedra with the Fire-Making Spell II that lit her robes in a light flame, causing her a significant amount of damage. Phaedra's healing spell was luckily successful in recuperating, but the residual flames still threatened more pain as the duel continued.

Though Aida's team had a clear advantage, it was still not time to rush about recklessly. Rushing was the only thing that could lose them the match, as the white witch saw it. Not taking the proper precautions, nor becoming arrogant and having something to prove… these were things that Aida could handle when not in front of a certain boy. Aida’s desert tawny owl, Scheherazade, watched silently from the corner of the room-- patient, just like her human friend.

While her legs still had the nimbleness of solid rock, Phaedra was proving herself to be very good at duelling's nurturing side. Once again, she healed, if only to discreetly buy Aida some time in retrying her smokescreen. While the pair stood occupied with this, Alan sought vengeance with a well-aimed Incendio Duo towards her right arm, the very spell that had left him solo. Instinctively, Phaedra thrashed the limb in a panic. Although the hardest part was over, it was still best to avoid taking damage if she could help it. Her mouth curled in distaste as the flames threatened to eat away at her skin. This is fine.

The fifth year was watching as Phaedra would heal herself and her team mate up and wondered when that would stop. Did they not already have the advantage here? He was unsure why they were trying so hard to prove the point of being ahead in the duel. Alan would not let it intimidate him however, or tried to not show it at least. He would be able to do this without worry, right?

Another chance to cast spells... healing spells, to be precise. While Phaedra kept up her reliable string of healing, this time again giving Aida a boost along with herself, Alan seemed to have decided that attacking in the thick smoke covering the field was a lost cause, anyway. Instead of staying on offense, he tried to reverse some of the damage he had taken - but while his casting in this duel so far had been impressively consistent, this time, something went wrong. Instead of cool relief, he would feel a hot sting on his skin, leaving him feeling a little worse rather than better. Aida alone was unaffected by the disorienting effect of the smoke around them that was only slowly dissipating, and took aim at the lone Gryffindor on the stage: But while her aim was spot on, Alan's dodging skills were even better, and he scampered out of the way of Aida's blindfold.

While the smokescreen obstructed Alan's vision, it did no favours for her either. At least it kept him off their backs for a round, and so Phaedra did as she had previously and healed her team. The flame on her sleeve died down. Staring ahead, she noted that perhaps Alan had dodged, because with Aida's smoke clearing it revealed him notably not blindfolded. Well, this was going to be annoying all over again.

Aida chuckled quietly as Alan's spell backfired, but quickly quieted down when she saw her own spell landing off the mark. She had horribly failed her own smokescreen a few rounds back and if she didn't continue to focus, she would keep making mistakes and bring down her team. Even though things were looking up for the Ravenclaws, Aida wanted to make a good performance until the very end.

As Alan would attempt to cast a healing charm on himself he would feel a sting that traveled up his arm with which he held his wand. He winced slightly as he shook his arm to get rid off the sensation. Ever since Galton had dropped unconscious it was as if the universe was out to get him, as if with his disappearance some balance had been disrupted. He wouldn't let this get to him though.

There is a rumor that at this point in the duel Willow could be found muttering to herself about the point of her existence as a duel moderator if no damage spells are being cast, but if she were to be asked about it she would deny it outright. Phaedra and Aida really didn't want Alan to be able to see, so they both cast the Blindfolding Spell. Only Phaedra was successful, and barely so. Perhaps having to dodge two blindfolds heading towards him through Alan off, perhaps it was the loss of his duelling partner. It was all speculative as Alan's wand backfired a second time, making his body go rigid and falling to the ground.

Willow jumped up, thinking Alan had fallen unconscious and the duel was done. Her mouth opened before realizing that no... he was not passed out... and this duel was definitely still going. At this point, Willow was tired, so she sat down on the piste with Tiger on her lap. She could get up quickly enough that she wasn't too concerned about not being on her feet.
