Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Perfectionist Ability
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
After making the largest mistake of his young life in his first experience with magic, Cain endeavored to never make another mistake like that again. He was only eight, but he saw the consequences of even the smallest slip and it stuck with him forever. He believed it was his fault and nothing would change that, it'd been his fault that his house had burned down. It started as an accident, but what was an accident but a careless action?
Ever since then Cain took extra steps with everything he did, especially the care of his books. It started with them after all, he'd stacked them unevenly and that was how they fell over into the fireplace in the first place. Now they would all be perfect, meticulously organized on a shelf and even his paperbacks would never get their spines bent or their pages folded. If he ate while he was reading, he be sure to wipe his hands clean before daring to touch a page. Cain had a collection of special bookmarks for them as well.
These habits spilled over into other things he did, washing his hands for dinner before his mother even had to tell him, making his bed when he woke up in the morning, to making sure his dirty laundry was in the right bin. He became meticulous in his hobbies, carefully pressing paper corner to corner and measuring it exactly as he folded a paper crane for his mother.
When she sat down to mend the family's cloaks and shirts, he'd sit beside her and help and his stitches might've looked so neat that a person could've mistaken them for machine stitches or particularly good spell-work.
As he got a little older, his obsession with detail went into his schoolwork and Cain recieved top marks for his handwriting and vocabulary thanks in part to his avid reading. Words felt so important to him and he wanted to use the most correct ones. This garnered a lot of teasing from classmates who noticed his perfectionist nature and they'd purposely mark or crumple some of his classwork. It was frustrating for Cain, but he just learned to write a little faster and prepare extra assignments if he couldn't avoid them all together. After all, mistakes were not allowed to Cain. If his classmates continued to mess with him, they found it would be their mistake.

( I almost missed the ability section and I'm still not sure if I'm allowed to apply for one as a first year but I'm not applying for a special race. I was just looking through for future reference when I saw this ability and thought it would suit Cain perfectly! )

Somewhere on the outskirts of Pennsylvania is a town known for nothing. There are exactly 100 residents, one school, one church and one farm. The towns name was taken after the late mayor, Acer which later became Acer Field after his passing. The town went to his son Garfield, a man known to be cunning and manipulative. To commemorate his succession as mayor he held the first annual celebration, a festive autumn hunt to prepare the people for winter. However, the citizens were standoffish. The hunt was to take place in the backwoods a few yards away from the town. It was uncharted territory said to house all sorts of wicked things which is why none every ventured there. Garfield was quick to rest their frightful hearts and had thought ahead of all their concerns since he too was told the creepy bedtime stories.

He claimed that he had already scouted out the area and laid waste to anything abnormal. The people were still a bit standoffish so he added in a grand feast and a thousand dollar prize to the winner. Once money was involved the people were at arms and readied themselves for the weekend, except one family. The Dickens was a house of four; Renee the mother, Vincent the father, Zoe the first born , and Kyoko the second born. The family were seen as clowns due to their surname and were often picked on in forms of gestures; "What the Dickens!" whenever they passed. Word got around quick within the two days of the announcement that they wanted no part in the festivities. Garfield himself made a personal visit to persuade them otherwise.

He said it didn't look good if the whole town wasn't participating. He made jabs at Vincent's free spiritedness and how Renee's strict hand shouldn't be the Debbie downer of new experiences. Renee felt provoked by his words and decided that the family would be happy to join. In fact, they'd be so happy to join that they'd be among the suppliers who would drive the trucks filled with ammo and food. As such the the weekend rolled around and everyone gathered their families to the back entrance of the town. Renee and her family along with another were loading up the trucks with supplies. Between tossing the blankets and drinking, Renee had introduced themselves. Zoe was the oldest , a sweeet nine year old girl who managed well with bringing the water. Strapped to her back was Kyoko who had just turned five but had walked herself tired before the event.

Vincent was a burly man who made his business with tree cutting, of course today he was nothing more than a driver. Then, there was her, a woman with fairly weak constitution that kept the house clean and tended to her positions and elixirs. Everything was normal. Nothing was out of place, no danger afoot , no tingling warnings. Everyone claimed it'd be a night to remember and a night to remember it was.

It had been an hour since the hunt began and many were out shooting and hollering within the forest beneath a full moon. Many complained about the lack of light which some tried to provide with candles, and she the truck lights. It was about 2 am when the cool winds started coming through and the trees started to whistle. Among the steps of the residents there were subtle creaks and cracks of twigs off in the distance. Renee at one point thought she heard a snarl but Vincent reassured her it was the wolves trying to escape. Trying to remain composed she pulled out a book but not even a page passed, several gunshots were fired and screams cried for help before all was silent. Renee slammed her book closed as she opened the truck door to step down. "Vince?" Zoe had pointed toward a path further into woods where he had gone; "I'll go get him mam" She ran. Renee screeched as she ran after her, forgetting something very important.

A few feet in and Renee lost sight of Zoe. Renee frantically called her name till she heard her little girl scream then a SNAP. As she took a step forward Vincent came sprinting out, grabbing hold of Renee before he led her to take cover by trees. "Their here Ma. Damn wolves." Renee covered her mouth as she tried to whisper without tears. "Them regular wolves." "Nah Ma. One of them big ol ones. Tall sums of trucks , standing on hind legs with sense in their eyes." Vincent hushed as he heard its steps get closer. Together they drew one big breath as they watched it walk past. Renee figured that if they were quiet enough it'd leave...but it didn't. It heard the cries of a child forgotten in the truck with gleaming lights. Renee's heart dropped as it stumbled to its four legs and dashed toward the sound.

Renee jumped from the spot. "MY BABY!" She ran after the creature grabbing all sorts of rocks and twigs. When she came to the opening she saw its body half way in with its talons ripping apart the truck seats. The baby wailed loudly which shook Renee's attention back to reality. "Ya get away ya hear! Ya get!" She tossed the rocks at the monster while Vincent put all his weight into his shoulders to slam the car door shut on it. The werewolf screamed which seemed to have alerted the rest of the group who were trying to find their way out. "Renee!" Garfield yelled as he pulled the trigger against the monster. It howled a terrible cry that sounded off for three others to take aim and fire. The werewolf wounded, fled from the group and towards another part of the woods. Renee collected herself and dashed to the front seat of the car where Kyoko was wrapped in a bloodied blanket. Renee fumbled to uncover the sheet and to her aching heart saw that her baby's girl arm was just a bitten mess.

"A doctor! A doctor!"

Habib woke up feeling great he started his day off by brushing his teeth and freshening himself up. After that, he went back downstairs to see the house-elf Lily serving up breakfast after grabbing a bite he went outside to go play with the creatures his mother was a magizooologist and sometimes she decided to adopt some fantastic beasts. So they decided to pay for 10 acres of woods to be built here to house all of the creatures. He ran into the woods and found his favourite spot, a clearing in the woods with a lake in the middle sitting there dipping his feet in the water he smiled to himself then he heard a rustling in the bushes, Habib turned around warily, not because of the rustling itself, it was because he couldn't tell what kind of rustling.

You see, his parents had bought these woods before he was born so growing up he learned to differentiate the sound of different animals moving. What worried him was that, this sounded like none of the ones he had heard and Habib was proud to say he could pick them all out in a line-up so this was concerning. From the bushes came an Ashwinder snake. Habib smacked himself on the head for being so paranoid.

The things only lived for an hour though he was wondering what one was doing here then he remembered they died after they laid their eggs. Backing away he said to the thing "Hey I don't want any trouble I'm just gonna give you some room" his voice sounded different for some reason like ice what shocked him, even more, when he heard a raspy voice speak"You are a ssspeacker!?" as if the thing sounded shocked.

It took Habib a second to realize that the voice had come from the snake he jumped back in shock, then he said again in that same ice-cold voice You can speak?!

Then the snake began to explain he told him about the abilities that he had thanks to him being a speaker. Habib was stunned by this information, after politely asking the snake not to lay its eggs here he ran back to his house.

Rushing inside he climbed the stairs opened the door to his father's study, looking up his father asked "what's got you in such a rush" You never told me that our family were parsel mouths the color drained from his face, he asked tentatively "How did you know this"

He then explained to his father about the Ashwinder and their conversation. "I was hoping I would tell you when you were 11 but I guess you have a right to know. As you know Salazar Slytherin and his family could speak parseltongue right, well his family weren't the only one that could speak parseltongue they were just the only ones foolish enough to advertise it your ancestor had the ability " He did?"Yes we kept this a family secret due to the bad reputation of this ability " wait so can you speak parsel toungue "No it seems the ability skipped a generation which is not uncommon but it looks like it got passed down to you"

Habib's head was spinning his ancestor could speak parseltongue by some twist of fate he also inherited itSo then are you going to teach me how to use this ability "Not until you're 11 ok so, for now, go play with your siblings," "Fine dad"

When the day was over Habib went to his room and began to think about the ramifications of this ability he would have to hide when he went to Hogwarts sure there was less prejudice against Slytherins since Albus Potters time but people were still wary of the parseltongue ability. But then he realized that he couldn't keep secrets well so he decided that he would only tell people he trusted. Assuring himself he went to sleep.

Wand Wood: Rosewood

Nigel may not fulfill the media's male beauty standard - he was quite short, not muscular, and not interested in trends at all - but somehow many around him found this lad good-looking. An uncommon handsomeness for someone with ordinary dark brown hair and dark eyes, one might say. In addition, he always appeared neat and clean, thus supported the positive opinion many silently formed regarding his physical appearance even further. However, much more important than this was his kind and gentle heart. Nigel was always sensitive to the needs and feelings of everyone around him, be it humans, animals, or plants. People did not make a comment about his lovely appearance or heart often, at least not to him directly, but it was worthy to note that at least one person would admit that they knew Nigel was very kind-hearted from their earliest interactions.

Wand Core: Phoenix Feather

Even though open-minded and willing to change when he saw this as necessary, Nigel was one enduring wizard. Persistent and determined, once he set his heart on achieving something, the lad would not quit unless he realised there was no way to go on. Since he was not only diligent but also highly intelligent, many fellow wizards believe that he could master various branches of magic and he would be successful in whatever area he decided to dive in. When it comes to his principles and values, Nigel was exceptionally stubborn. He was not willing to compromise them, even if they sometimes led him to loneliness and being viewed as a weirdo by his peer.

Wand Length: 35.5 cm

For those who had just got to know him, or people who did not know him very well, Nigel was very often mistaken as a totally refined individual. The truth is, on the contrary, the American had a very lively personality. He may have the tendency to act calmly outside, particularly around people he did not really feel comfortable around, but inside he was full of dreams, imaginations, ambitions, and plans. In fact, it seemed that his brain had a ton of energy. Although he was not as chatty as his dad, he did inherit some of Otto's cheeky trait, even getting into a number of troubles for speaking up his mind, particularly as a younger teen. Furthermore, he did have a love for dramatic, although not for daily life as he found it not very practical; he saved it for special occasions, be it a celebration or when he found an answer to a problem not many could not come up with - answers he considered impressive. Whereas some might consider him childish (if only they knew who he was inside), in some ways Nigel was like a very mature child. He was aware of the dangers this world possessed, but whenever it was possible, he opted to see it through rose-coloured lenses. He believed in finding the best in everything, and was not afraid to express his happiness and excitement - when he was alone or surrounded only by people he was comfortable with.

(WC: 245/50)

Wand Flexibility: Springy

Nigel had always been an open-minded person. He liked to study and try new things, almost always giving the unfamiliar an opportunity. When being criticised, or when he himself realised that his old way was not working effectively, usually he was ready to change. However, Nigel would not change right away, or purely for the sake of pleasing others. He knew his values, and never would compromise them. The guy was willing to change continuously, even understanding that a change was a permanent thing in this world, but before changing he would also make sure that what needed to be changed was in line with his principles.

Where the Wand Comes From:

"What is it you said has happened to your wand?"

"I really don't know what happened to it. The only thing I know is that it doesn't seem to work properly anymore."

It had been weeks, or perhaps months, since Nigel first felt his wand was... kind of difficult to use. He could cast spells less and less effectively, there seemed to be a blockage, and it looked like his spells were more prone to failures. Initially Nigel felt ashamed of himself - a bright wizard experiencing frequent difficulties in utilising magic - and blamed things on his lack of practice. But after constant studies and practices, and still experiencing the same problems, he began to suspect there was something wrong with his wand.

After discussing with his parents and sisters, the American paid a visit to a wand maker, a family friend. After listening to Nigel's complaints, the lady nodded her head and said, "It seems that your wand is no longer 'in tune' with you. Don't worry, it happens quite often; most wizards get their wands by the time they go to wizarding schools, but they change as they grow up, which is why many need new wands eventually. The old wand no longer suits you. Come."

She beckoned, and Nigel - together with his dad - followed her into her shop, located just below her flat. The wand maker grabbed a tape measure out of a drawer and asked, "Which one is your wand arm?" It was not very necessary, for the young lad remembered this whole process of getting a wand, but he considered her asking as a form of politeness. He thus held out his right arm and politely informed her he was right-handed.

Soon afterward, she had handed him a box of wand. "Try this, son," she said. "33.8 cm hawthorn wood with dragon heartstring core, flexible just like your old wand." Nigel took the wand out and waved it around a little bit, but nothing happened, and they all knew this was not the right wand for him. He also tried a 27.7 cm whippy wand made of hazel and horned serpent horn, an ebony, supple wand with dittany stalk core that measured 31.6 cm, and - he could no longer track the wands.

It was very understandable of course, considering there were thousands possibilities composed of the wands' length, cores, wood, and flexibility; however, Nigel was starting to get slightly impatient. At one point, the wand maker handed him a springy 35.5 rosewood wand with phoenix feather core. This time, Nigel felt a nice warm energy radiating from it to his hand, and when he waved it around, sparks were emitted. The lady looked very pleased, and his dad had a proud look in his eyes.

And Nigel? He was ready to see how this wand would prove to be his wonderful companion for years to come.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Fearless Ability
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Clair walked into the barn, planning to finish the chores that Izzy had left behind, she went to the sheep pen first, time to clean 'em out.
As she grabbed a pitchfork she noticed that ever single sheep was still and quiet, that's odd, they are all still' she thought with sigh, opening the door to the pen she went inside, the sheep looked at her but stayed still.
This was really odd for them, often they would be running around like crazy heads in the morning, hoping to be let out or something. Well, Clair started to pick the poop, and when she turned around she heard a noise, like a shuffling foot. Turning around she seen nothing, again that seemed off, Clair shrugged and turned around again, this time attempting to pick up the pop she had dropped while turning around, at that moment she heard a big noise and then a loud "Honkkkkkkkk!" turning around slowly she looked up, and there clinging to the rafters was Izzy, the teen girl was blowing a airhorn as loud as she could, but oddly Clair was unfazed, she looked at Izzy and cocked her head a little, "How did you get up there?"she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Izzy jumped down and stalked away, frowning and seeming upset at not scaring her little sister.
Clair went back to cleaning clean and the sheep went back to bleating and running around, Clair smiled as a memory came into mind, one from Long before she ever knew about Hogwarts...
'She had got up in the morning and brushed her teeth, then she got dressed into day cloths, and headed into the barn to do her morning chores.
It was dark out, way to dark for her liking for all she knew there could be something bad out there, maybe that was one of her only fears darkness, she feared it because I could suck you up and never spit you out again, it could take you into it's clutches and never give you back, and Clair feared that, no she did not fear death, that was something that she never feared, because she knew that she was a good girl and worked hard and was honest, she would never go anywhere bad after he death, but maybe a better way to explain Clair's fear was... Her fear of the unknown. Well, however you explain this fear, Clair was walking out to the barn, with torch in hand, she waved it around looking at each corner and checking for things that could be lurking about. As she waved it around she started to feel less afraid, she started to feel like she did not need to fear what she did not know! After realizing this she stepped into the barn and turned on the lights, it was quiet, no movement at all, no bleating not a sound. Well this quietness was worse then the darkness, no animal was this quiet unless there was trouble! Clair looked around and then, with a quiet step, she walked up to the sheep pen, and ever so softly she opened the door, only to see every sheep looking up! Clair then looked up too, and at the moment there was a loud honkkkkkk! And Izzy jumped down, smiling at her sister, "Got ya!" She said Patting Clair's head, but Clair had not been scared, not the least bit.'
Clair shook her head and left the pen, silly memories! Had she ever been scared of the dark? Nah: Clair seemed to never be scared of anything, it was kind of odd in a way.

“Can you tell me about Nana’s story again?” The Young girl asked as she sat on her father’s Lap.

“Nana’s story? Didn't we already tell that story?” Caspian laughed as she patted her head softly.

“Yeah! But it’s always so beautiful to hear about it! You did it inspired you! I want to be inspired too!” Chess replied as she raised her hand in the air before he shook his head and smiled, carrying her back to her room as he started the story.

—-

Within Bulgaria on the cold winter, there, a Veela and a Pureblood wizard met on that night, he was Atticus Vatellis, he was the sole heir of his line going off with an expedition to learn and research as an unspeakable before a series of unfortunate accidents had led him in the deeper parts of the woods, wounded and ill, barely having the chance to survive, until he met her, Iliya. A woman radiating unnatural beauty despite the feathers that grew from her shoulders, her sharp blue eyes and pale white hair that framed her to be an angel in his eyes.
Whilst she was cautious of him at first, out of her experience of how her people had been treated by people out there, but when she saw the pureblood, she couldn’t just up and leave him.
Despite her hatred of the outside world, she wouldn't let a stranger die, it wouldn't be right and it would be something they would do which she refused to be, so she had taken him in her home to treat him, that time it was only the fire from her fingertips that could keep him alive.

In her cottage is where they properly spoke and introduced each other albeit with difficulty at first, the two being different from languages. Iliya struggled, she could offer much as she would aid him as Atticus would always try to help her to her dismay from his wounds from opening.

She could only be infuriated until Atticus proposed an idea where they learn from each other, so they could understand each other after days of where she nursed him back to good health and agreed. As weeks went by, he was getting better and she slowly talked more, the color coming back from his skin as he could now stand and not be bed-ridden, out of repayment he again asked to make his stay longer and help her, which she agreed.

With a letter sent to the home, Atticus made this his new home, spending time and enjoying the slight of Bulgaria, since he taught Iliya, it was her turn to teach him, it was an exciting experience, going around and exploring the different state of the worlds. Together, they always learned from each other, whether they knew it or not, they somehow caught feelings after the new years.

Overall Iliya and Atticus became good friends, often the both of them would go out and accomplish the tasks they originally intended to do, Atticus off to Research and Iliya but he has a new reason to stay, longer or maybe forever and it was Iliya. Together, they would both help each other, even if she was annoyed at How hard it was to help Atticus due to his occupation, he would also help too in her potions. Soon the two were growing to fall in love with each other as the seasons passed, often affirming that even if they grew old, haggard or seem as not human anymore, they would still love each other just the same and they did so without confessing their feelings together, whether as Veela or a human.

But one day, his Illness came back.

It was suddenly but it scared Iliya when she came home to see him, immediately running off to look for more to cure him but it would never really work, so she had to do it in another way, her hair being sold, working to make wands Custom made by her, trying her best to seek it off to wizards or witches to buy enough medicine for him to get better, afraid to lose the man she grew to love but with the commotion happening in Bulgaria within the next season, Iliya had talked to Atticus, they were afraid, however, there was a solution, out of mutual decision to scrounge up enough money to go back to Scotland, where he could introduce his family to Iliya.

And to get enough help and let her finally rest, with the remaining magic they both had, they escaped Bulgaria and got a ship to the south, to Scotland.

With that night, when they docked, There they stood, the Vatellis family who had quickly taken the both of them in when they saw his state, worried and frantic but ensured Iliya safety, she doubted this and asked why they didn't hate her, they explained that they were thankful, welcoming Iliya in, at first she was confused, she thought she had to charm them with her beauty, having to be so used in using her charm out of danger until one of the family members of Vatellis had said.

“The moment you saved our Atticus was the moment you were welcomed here, every wand you made, willing to lose your strands of hair for him, is more than enough, Muggle or Giant, even a Veela like you. Our family will welcome you with open arms with your ambition, actions and values alone”

“And there your grandmother was happy, with your grandfather they eventually made me, your auntie Jeanette and uncle Argus” Caspian smiled before he looked at the youngest child, already yawning as she hug her stuffed toy.

“Woah…..that’s amazing, now can you tell how you and mom met next?” Chess asked before laying onto the bed. “and let you sleep late? No, your mother would kill me, good night honey” Caspian ruffled her head before moving away, flicking the lights as she murmurings.

“Good night"

Andrew always displayed a lack of emotional reaction even as a kid, although he would respond to pain as any child would, his views on things such as a sad movie or a very well-prepared meal is uncannily different in comparison to others. When others would express how hypnotically beautiful a flower field would be, to Andrew, it just looks "colorful and pleasant", an art piece is a carefully thought-out and calculated piece of color-theories in a frame, a movie was an act to express a story through physical means. The Harringtons had to be more attentive as to how they raised Andrew, because without his intent his tongue and honest analysis can hurt others, so they taught him, "Silence is golden, but the tongue is silver". Execution is everything in your phrasing, so he studied a book of thesaurus to expand his own vocabulary to express the same honesty in a 'kinder' manner.

One time at the age of 9 some of the older kids in school were showing off the others their new slingshot, and kept bothering Mr. Harrington's son with it, so Andrew confronted them to ask them what was the problem; They then explained that they were just teasing his friend that if he couldn't shoot a bird down with the slingshot they'd kept bothering him. So Andrew asked them "What if I did it, will you leave him alone then?" And so they agreed with his terms and gave the slingshot to him which he then shot a pebble straight to a bird who was minding its own business on one of the electrical wires. He didn't show a hint of mercy nor remorse before returning their slingshot which unsettled them and his friend for a bit.

"You... didn't really kill that bird did you?" His friend asked with a look of concern towards Andrew.

"What? No, of course not, the deal was to shoot a bird down, not kill it, judging by the distance and the weight of the pebble, it shouldn't be enough to kill it, I merely just shoved the bird off the wire, it went down because of shock, it'll recover within 60 seconds don't worry." Andrew shrugs apathetically as he tries an attempt of a light smile towards his friend to reassure them.

The friend nods and sighs a bit relieved that the bird is well, but still looks over Andrew with a slight hint of concern behind his eyes. Andrew wasn't completely emotionless, but he can be too analytical for his own good, and he struggles to emotionally connect with others, but even then, he still tries to at least understand others with the cards he has on hand.

In addition, this lack of emotional response makes him pretty dull towards beauty, even if he understands it, he can never 'feel' attracted to the aesthetics of fashion or moved by art, they just look nice at the end of the day, he can acknowledge an artist's skill but could be never be moved by them. Which in turn would probably result in him being unaffected by even beautiful creatures such as the Veela, although they're intriguing, they're not exactly something he'd be moved by emotionally, it takes more than beauty to impress or move Andrew, he'd know because he himself knows that how you present yourself, is a way that can manipulate how others view you, in people's psyche, the layers go a lot deeper than what's on the surface.

Fun fact: Verity was born in a yurt. Yup. A bunch of hippy-dippy wannabes up and secretly built a commune on the edge of Ards Forest Park in County Donegal, Ireland to quote-unquote ‘get away from it all’. Hospital births included, apparently. But don’t worry; they planted holly bushes all around the little huts because they’d heard that druids believed the wood could ward off evil spirits and bad omens. They also had a certified midwife, but, shhhh, it was totally the holly keeping Mums and babies safe.

While it’s difficult to say for certain if the holly’s magic impacted the other children, there’s no doubt that it wound itself around Verity. Maybe it saw her raging at the adults, fists clenched, red in the face, that, no, two times two could not be whatever it felt like because that’s not how maths works and thought, ‘oh, she could use a hand keeping an even keel.’ Or maybe it noticed her magic before anyone else. Individuals on epic quests can be hard to come by, after all; a muggleborn headed for Hogwarts might not be as glamorous as a knight out to slay a dragon, but it’d suit the holly just fine, thank you very much. Wand Core: Dragon Heartstring | Romanian Longhorn

‘Flamboyant’ isn’t a word Verity would choose to describe herself, but it’s one hundred percent accurate. While she might be a chill, low-key kind of person when it comes to things like choosing outfits or deciding what to do for fun after school, all that changes the second she gets around other people. Whether she realizes it or not, Verity is an extreme extrovert. She always finds a way to be as close to the center of attention as possible, be it through cracking jokes, busting out a back handspring for no good reason, or just showering everyone in questions about their lives, dreams, and everything else under the sun.

The real fun starts, though, when she finds somebody she disagrees with. Verity loves arguing about all of her pet causes, including rights for werewolves and wands for centaurs. Once she gets going there’s no stopping her; she’ll push and push and push until she either convinces the person she’s talking to that she’s right or alienates them forever. As loyal as she is to the people she considers friends, Verity is a thousand times more dedicated to her beliefs and standing up for what she thinks is right. She likes to think that makes her noble, but, really, it’s stubbornness more than anything.

Honestly, it’s no surprise that a wand with a core known for producing dramatic, attention-grabbing spells would gravitate towards a girl who’d see giant flashes of light, explosions, and an increased potential for backfires as a feature rather than a drawback. Go big or go home, right? [265 Words]

Wand Length: 13 inches

As mentioned above, Verity is an extreme extrovert. She loves when people pay attention to her or single her out of a crowd cause they think she’s funny or cool or admire her dedication to fighting for creatures’ rights and the millions of other things she believes in. As she gets older she’ll relish being able to use her height for the same purpose -it’s super hard for people to ignore you when you’re five foot ten and loud. [81 Words]

Wand Flexibility: Unyielding

Although she’s a relatively open-minded person, once Verity decides where she stands on an issue, that’s it: she’s in it for life. No matter how hard anyone tries, they’ll never be able to convince her that werewolves vile, dangerous creatures that need to be held to a different standard than ordinary witches and wizards. Or that house elves don’t deserve to be paid. Or that centaurs shouldn’t have wands. Or that muggleborns aren’t as good at magic as purebloods are. The list goes on and on and on.

It makes sense, then, that her wand would be similarly inflexible. Verity isn’t so stubborn that she’ll refuse to hear a counterargument or take in new information -that’s all fine. Will it change her opinion, though? Ninety-eight percent of the time the answer’ll be no. That two percent coupled with her innate curiosity and hatred of fitting in is what draws her wand’s flexibility four notches up from a complete ‘solid’ rating. [162 Words]

Acquisition

Verity doesn’t get the whole designer clothes thing. Like, yeah, okay, you spent a bunch of money and now you have a special shirt or bag or whatever with a logo on it. And sometimes people will look at that logo and go ‘Wow, that person spent a lot of money on that thing’ which’ll either make them think you’re cool, rich, not rich enough, or stupid.

But, like, a custom thing? Something that nobody else has, that’s a hundred percent special to you? Yeah, Verity totally gets the appeal of that. So when the guy at the wand shop asked if she’d be interested in spending a few more galleons to have her very own custom wand, a wand made just for her and nobody else, of course she said yes. What a no-brainer. Like, witches had to use wands, right? So, obviously, if you were gonna be the best witch that you could be, you had to get the wand that’d be guaranteed to work best for you.

She felt a little bad about spending such a huge chunk of her school money on it, though. But, hey, second hand shops existed for a reason. Brand new robes wouldn’t make her any better at magic, after all. And she’d gone through all of primary school with used textbooks without them making one whit of difference in her grades. Plus, if she ran out of parchment, she had tons of looseleaf paper at home.

No, the wand was the best possible purchase. Verity would have no problem taking on Hogwarts, patched robes and all, so long as she had that beautiful piece of holly in her hand. [283 Words]

When he was much younger, eight years old or so, Nigel Read ran what he dubbed his pet business - that is, he offered his service to pet-sit for the neighbours and his family friends. He began with the simpler ones; owls, cats, toads, and common Muggle pets such as goldfish and parrots. At first, the boy offered this service daily, but of course there had always been more customers during the busy holiday seasons.

Even though initially he started the little business to earn more pocket money and to prove his responsibility to his parents, Nigel quickly fell in love with his part-time job. His natural fondness for animals was a big deciding factor, but there was also his motive to learn new things, to learn how to take care of them properly.

After attending Ilvermony, Nigel could only offer his service during the summer months (he reserved the shorter winter break fully for family time). However, because of his good records and reputation, old customers were always willing to come back to him. As now the young Pennsylvania native had a better understanding and control of magic, Mr and Mrs Read also gave their permission for Nigel to handle less common pets. Naturally, they helped at the beginning, but gradually the son got used to being responsible for varieties of pets.

There were some animals his parents did not let him pet-sit, such as dogs (because they had Rosebud the cat at home and did not want to risk her fighting with a customer's pet) and snakes; but Nigel gradually became a master of handling the species of animals he was allowed to pet-sit. For instance, he knew a Puffskein's favourite treat and how their docile nature makes them easy to care, a Silencing Charm must be cast upon a Fwooper at least once a month (and why), how to lure a Bowtruckle without hurting them, as well as how to keep Porlock and Ghoul comfortable so they would help wizards.

"Aren't you a bit old for offering a pet-sitting service?" his sisters sometimes would tease playfully, but Nigel merely smiled at this. He just loved these creatures, and was determined to keep them safe and nurture them as a part of balanced Mother Nature. Would he be successful in the long run and larger scale? Maybe and maybe not. Would he make a good Magizoologist as an adult one day? Perhaps. But right now, he would just have to be satisfied with being able to competently handle common pets in both the Muggle and the wizarding worlds.
