Quidditch Fall 2021 Slytherin v Ravenclaw

It's funny how quickly things stop being funny when it was your own teammates getting hurt. As Syl began his descent from his broom, Winnie's eyes widen. Luckily Aly was quick enough to catch River on her broom, but that meant their co-captain was sent barreling towards the earth. "SYL!" Winnie would call his name, but it was useless. He was out of the game. He would recover, of course, but that didn't make her less angry. How dare the Slytherin team fight dirty! ... Even if they were doing the same. That was beside the point.

"Don't worry." Winnie said to Aurora, grabbing her Silver Arrow as her eyes narrowed towards the field. "I can still help us win this." Either that or she would get knocked out after one round. Only time would tell. Regardless, Winnie was would be taking to the sky, her long hair flowing behind her.

Sure, the Quaffle was important; scoring five goals had broken a personal record for Aly, something she would absolutely have to write home to her parents about as soon as this long and rainy match was finally over. The red ball was calling her name, so it seemed, but Aly forced herself to ignore it. She was a team player, after all, and though being a star did sound tempting, she had to think about the good of the team.

In this case, that meant the good of their incredibly talented star Seeker, River- because the longer games dragged on, the more opposing Beaters would try increasingly terrifying things to take River down. And with two of Ravenclaw's Chasers on penalty laps, Aly knew that someone should probably follow Sylvain and River, just in case something untoward happened to them.

Hearing the gong chime once, twice, thrice in a row to mark Slytherin pulling ahead in points was like three consecutive lances to Aly's heart, but she forced herself to doggedly pursue the Moontrimmer with her eyes on River. Perhaps there was some way that the curly-haired Keeper-who-was-not-doing-a-great-job-of-Keeping-at-the-moment could help? Another "Aly-oop", maybe, or throwing herself in the way of a Bludger intended for the Seeker?

The need for Aly's assistance came far sooner than expected in the form of a Bludger on the other side, sent by one of Slytherin's Beaters, of course; unable to do anything, Aly watched in horror from below as the angry iron ball crashed straight into Syl.

It seemed that he was out in the blink of an eye, falling off of his broom looking sickeningly limp, and the upset Moontrimmer dumped its other rider immediately too.

Caught underneath with two bodies free-falling through the air towards her, Aly was forced to make a snap decision between her co-captain and friend or her team's most necessary player.

Merlin, Syl, please forgive me...

The brunette turned her Silver Arrow to catch River, reaching out and grabbing the falling Seeker to help her onto the back of her broom. Aly knew that she had just made herself a target, but what else was she supposed to do? Let River plummet the horrifyingly long distance to the grassy pitch below? Absolutely not- they still had a game to win!

But the third-year couldn't help but reach her free hand out to Sylvain as he plunged to the ground below right by her; Aly was pretty sure that he was unconscious, and her poor broom wouldn't have been able to support three people anyway, but her heart twinged in pain when her fingertips just barely missed brushing his arm. She and Sylvain may not have really spoken outside of Quidditch, after all, but she still considered him a friend. Quidditch was a dangerous sport, and it was even more dangerous to care about people who could very easily get injured during it.

"Syl," she choked out through the rain as he fell headlong towards the ground below. Aly averted her eyes. She couldn’t watch him hit the ground.

At least she had saved River. At least Ravenclaw wasn't out of the running just yet.

As a proud bird, she has a big Ravenclaw pride in her heart. But never in her quidditch life would she ever witness her fellow birds being so good on the pitch. It felt like a dream. If she had remembered correctly, they did not even stand a chance against the dungeon people, let alone say goodbye to their seeker who caught the snitch in less than ten minutes. Time changed, and at last, goodbye whatever your name is.

Good news came with a cost. River and the co captain weren't fast enough to dodge the incoming bludger. It was unfortunate, because at that moment, a chill ran down her spine, both because the two respected people on her team fell in such speed from a height and thinking that she would have to step in and do the snitching. How many chocolates did she have to spare for the injured? One goes to Cash, then Gabby, then Sylvie, then Riv-

Then the Ravenclaw seeker was caught by another girl. Aurora sighed in relief, her body would not have to go through that madness for today. But Winnie would have to. “WINNIE, DON’T DIE! I WILL GIVE YOU A PROTECTION MAGIC SO YOU WON’T DIE!” Cheering on people was her best quality. If there were a cheerleading squad, she would ace in it. Aurora stood up from the bench and blew air on Winnie as hard as she could, as if it would create a protection charm or some sort. Though, it was the thought that counts. As her redhead friend left, the thrill of cheering the team was incomplete. She was contemplating on sitting next to the Slytherin’s second string, too bad, there were none left.

He watched as things went from bad to worse. His heart sank as he watched the events unfold, as both Koko and Dan were knocked out of the game. A worried frown crept onto the small boy's face, and he didn't even realize that he had been scrunching up a fistful of robes until he felt his grip tire.

Well, at least Dancelos seemed to be doing well during her debut. He only hoped he could fly just as well as she and Maggie did.

"Well... you know what that means. Let's do our best," Flash said, bringing him out of his thoughts and his rapt attention on the progress of the game. He had almost forgotten that Koko being out meant that he was up already, right this second. Avery leapt up from the bench to attention. "Yeah, let's go, Flash! We got this!" he squeaked in his little-boy voice, snatching up his broom, ready to grill some birds for dinner.

Although Cecily had always been incredibly confident in her Eagles, she couldn't have hoped for a better match than this one. Sure, maybe it would be less stressful if River just caught the snitch already (which, to be honest, was less a commentary on their star seeker and more frustration at the snitch's obnoxiously elusive nature; seriously, why wouldn't it just surrender already?), but then again... that was half the fun of it. What would a Quidditch match be if the snitch was caught moments after its release? Boring and soul-crushing, she knew from experience. No, this was where the real thrill laid. The strategy, the pressure, dancing on a razor's edge between risk and devastation.

But there were moments-- moments where the scale tipped just too far towards the worst, just past the narrow line upon which Cecily found such excitement. Moments including a sickening blow to her co-captain and seeker, courtesy of Slytherin's most terrifying player; including a tumble through the sky, the mist, towards the mud below; the collision of bodies with the earth, first one, then-- not a second. Just one. Just Sylvain, unconscious on the ground, but River, River was still in play, still fighting on the back of Aly's broom. Cecily's heart ached for her co-captain, but while their Keeper may not have been doing much keeping, she was certainly showing her worth elsewhere. Cheering for Aly under her breath, Cecily regained her bearings. Slytherin was being crushed under the Eagles' talons, and she was going to make sure those snakes would never have a chance to fight back.

Dancelos entered the field with motivations. The wind almost wanted to throw the players away, the cold weather was freezing more and more. It was starting to get dark. Now Dancelos had two options: Either she would help the others to catch the informant or she would score a goal in order to be ahead in numbers. It was dangerous to fight for her, there were many more experienced than her, and they could have dropped her, which meant the lack of a chaser because there was no other chaser. Also, if they competed for the quaffle again after the match, these additional points would be useful to them, these were discussed before. Dancelos made her decision and filled the quaffle. Dancelos made her decision and sent the quaffle 3 times into the circle, now they were ahead.The tribune was getting louder and louder. At that time, several people were eliminated as well, Koko and Dan.Things had gotten worse, two more good players had been eliminated, but now a first year like her, Avery, who was sitting, and the Flash she had just met, were coming into the game. Dancelos hoped things would get better with their entry.

Penalty laps were the worst. Lavinia loved cheating but penalty laps just made her unhappy about getting caught. She couldn’t do anything except fly around the field and watch which was not all that fun. Staring at the action, she watched helplessly as River and Sylvain got knocked off their broom and only River was caught. Then she let out a little cheer when Dan Palmer finally got knocked off his broom. It had taken many attempts but their beaters had pulled it through. Now all they needed was for River to catch the snitch and they would win for the first time in years. Finishing her penalty lap, Lavinia proceeded to get ready to get back in the action of the game.

River barely had the time to catch her breath from her failed attempt at catching the snitch, before the two eagles sped through a spiral dive, going straight for the golden glimt. To no avail though. It slipped right past River’s fingertips once more. This game was apparently just not going to be over easily.

River’s attention was pinned on keeping her eyes on the path of the snitch. And therefore she’d not payed too much attention as to where those terrifying bludgers have been sent. She was about to know though, as her and Sylvain had become someones target.
It was too fast to even register, but she felt the familiar slam of the bludger hit their broom, and once more she was falling.
Not for long though, because Aly heroically came to the girls rescue.

After landing safely on her teammates broom, she quickly glanced down to catch a glimt of Slyvain landing on the ground.“Thank you Aly”. She said quickly through gasoed breaths. “Syl’s going to be alright. Now let’s finish this thing”. There was no time to dwindle on the loss of a teammate right now, she could do that once this snitch was caught. She filled Aly in on where it was spotted, and hoped they’d be back on track in no time.

Alexx didn't even think twice before heading to the edge of the field to take her lap. It was just too obvious the outcome the minute she missed her blatch on River; she'd take her penalty and go. After this was done, she'd spend many hours on the field, trying her hardest to regain the speed she once had which would allow her to slip past the eyes of those regulating the game. She'd have to build her skill back up if she ever wanted to compete again, that was for sure. What an embarrassment this game was to her.

In a strange, sadistic way, watching Slytherin's captain and their keeper plummet to the ground formed a smile on her face. Not because it was two more players off of the field, not even because her first play back into the game landed with success, but because she was finally back in the game and she was making her mark with a bang quite literally.

As she drew her arm back to prepare for the bludger's force, the quick iron ball struck sooner than she expected. She had to get it right. Her entire arm shook on impact, it maybe even hurt her a little bit, but it wouldn't take long to get used to it. She had been in this position once before; Emma had knowledge for the first time in forever. But until then, she had to keep her head in the game and start a streak before the game could end.
