With no more fog to get lost in, the duel broke into a familiar chaos.
Bridget was the first to shoot off a flipendo aimed at the airborne Badger. As the spell shot forward at a frightening speed the crowd would watch Lea leaping up into the air to block the incoming bolt of energy. The spell would collide with the duelist, sending her on a spiraling descent back to the stage floor. It was a heroic action, but would it be enough?
No sooner had Lea hit the floor then she began climbing back to her feet. Overhead it appeared the spell holding Alexa was beginning to fail. To give her debut flight some kick, Alexa crafted a nasty looking ball of flames to hurl at one of the two hell bent on targeting her. She shot an impressive looking incendio duo right towards Henry.
The boy must have been too caught up in casting and flinging his own flipendo at Alexa that the flames would impact him squarely, part of his clothes catching aflame. But as he received damage, he dealt it out. His flipendo hurled itself forward towards poor Alexa. Lea was able to make it to her feet in time to leap forward once more, but this time she would not find any impact waiting for her. No, Alexa would be sent spinning in air, right as she began her descent.
But the air was not quite done with her yet. As if it was waiting to hit the Badger when she was down most (or up, technically) the storm clouds overhead sent a jolt of lightning strait for her. She must have been just high enough at the moment the storm sent it’s electric tendril out to be hit. A fraction of a second later and she thudded to a stop on the wooden floor. If it had been the floor or the lightning, Galton wasn’t quite sure, but she was out. His hand immediately shot up, voice loud and clear. “Hold your spells! Alexa Mackenzie is down.” He would rush forward with the medics and oversee Alexa’s removal from the stage before he returned back to his post.
He raised his hand once more. “RESUME!”

Hufflepuff vs Slytherin: Match 3

Flying high in the air with
bright red hair, the hufflepuff seemed like the perfect target.
Henry aimed his wand. Blue eyes concentrating on Alexa flying in the air, his gaze found her ember ones. The third year lowered his wand the tiniest, he looked into her eyes. Watching someone he cared floating in the air getting spells thrown at caused the teen to feel bad for her. To feel guilty. He should leave. He should run. He shouldn't be here. He can't hurt Alexa and he can't be the partner that Bridget needs- deserves.
Henry rolled his wand in his hands, emotions bubbled within him. Creeping along his skin as he looked up, meeting Alexa's eyes. His neck tickled with sweat.
I'm sorry.... I am...
The teen lowered his wand a bit more. Gaze on the floating Hufflepuff for a moment longer until he looked over at Bridget, planning to apology to her. For failing that duel. For not being a good enough partner.
When he saw the sparks of the knockback jinx fly from her wand toward Alexa, Henry's eyes followed watching as Lea took the spell. It was a brave thing to do. A loyal decision. Lea was a great partner, Henry wished he could be.
Watching Alexa start to fall, Henry aimed his wand and took a breath. Shaking a little as he buried his emotions and relationships deep within him. Focus.
"Flipendo"
Watching the sparks fly from his wand, past Lea and hitting Alexa. Henry lowered his wand, his spell hit. His spell hit her. A surge of hidden guilt rose within him. Suddenly he wished that the spell missed.
Not looking. Letting his thoughts distract him when he felt the incendio duo hit him, inciting flames over his clothes.
The teen looked down at the flames. Flames that reminded him of Alexa's hair as he took deep, calming breaths trying to remain calm. To remain focus.
Through the flames, he could see a lighting strike hit Alexa sending her down. Knocking her unconscious.
Henry felt pain within him as the duel was stopped and Alexa removed. He knew that he help knock the girl unconscious. He should be happy, that is a point of a duel after all but he wasn't.
The duel is resumed.
One opponent left.
Lea and already she took Bridget's spell.
Henry on fire, feeling dread rise within him as he tried to spy his partner through the flames. The inner voice loudly speaking to him. A distraction. That could never result in anything good.
I'm sorry
"I'm sorry about getting distracted and..."
I'm sorry for being the worst partner you ever had...

Three Knockback Jinxes in a row was a bit much. Uncreative, basic. Spamming Flipendo was not a strategy, but with Alexa looking worse for wear, having taken several hits, she couldn’t think of anything more effective. Not when she avoided Incendio wherever possible—duel or not, was fire really necessary?—and with her target floating, she wasn’t sure if she’d be blown back by Ventus, making for a longer distance of impact, less force. Flipendo it was.
It was a straight shot, targeting easier now with the fog dissipated. Well-placed as the cast was, Alexa would have needed to twist impressively to go unscathed. She wouldn't have to so much as try, though, Lea taking the spell. The move made sense; Alexa was vulnerable and Lea was at fault for that, and of course she wouldn't stand by watching a teammate fall if she could help it. Bridget could admire the sacrifice.
But Lea's effort would not be enough to shield her teammate until the redhead's feet hit the floor. Again, it was a double attack, and she would count Henry's delayed cast as quick-thinking, not having noticed the brief lowering of his wand while she concentrated on her spellwork. While Lea was still off-balance from taking Bridget's jinx, Henry's whizzed by, struck hard. She would be impressed if Alexa kept her feet, knocked as she was while plummeting out of the levitation.
The Hufflepuff seemed to be hanging on, if barely. She'd finally succeeded in setting Henry alight, Bridget's features forming a frown as she noted the flickering tongues eating at his robes. Fire was never pleasant, and this was honestly a weird change of pace, not being the one to draw all the attacks. He still looked fine, but she doubted the Hufflepuffs would ease up on him until he fell to the platform.
Her attention returned to the Hufflepuffs as their end of the stage lit up again; Alexa fell. Bridget blinked, realization of the split-second occurrence setting in. This had been the intention, of course, for the lightning to strike at an inopportune moment if the Hufflepuffs left it there. And so it had, doing enough for Galton to halt the duel. She lowered her wand as Alexa was removed from the stage, using the respite to check on Santario's duel. Things still looked tense, but Lydia was down, which was fairly safely equated to Slytherin advantage.
Her other concern was Henry. This wasn't much of a break for him, still dealing with the lapping flames. They couldn't have extinguished them at the moment if they'd wanted to. She gave him a nod, something of a hang in there, before Galton gave the call to resume. Her sights turned back on Lea when Henry spoke up. Brows furrowing at the apology, she would have looked over had she the time. Perhaps it was just the pain and the fact he'd knocked out his friend speaking? "Henry, why are you apologizing? You're doing brilliantly." She meant it; he was landing spells, producing the weather effects that had aided them considerably. They'd both been distracted by the adjacent duel, but only briefly. So none of that now; they needed to be confident and focused. There was still one to go.

It was her fault that Alexa was in such a bad position, so it made sense that Lea should protect her teammate until they were back on the ground. The hufflepuff would try to keep her block attempts a surprise until the last second, racing in front of Alexa and jumping up to catch a Knockback jinx. And knocked back she was, hitting the floor with a thud before quickly scampering up to her feet.
It wasn't enough though. The other managed to hit the hufflepuff and the clouds decided that they had waited long enough. Alexa was smited from above, but not before hitting one of the Slytherin with a 'signature hufflepuff' spell. Fire.
Still, being without a partner made the rest of this duel incredibly challenging, not to mention the year gap- a disadvantage that continued since the start. Lea had no expectation of winning, but maybe she'd be able to bring one down with her. Even then, maybe waking up in the hospital wing would be a good reminder to improve.

There was fire burning on the stage. Both the fire covering Henry, and the fire within Lea. It was almost as if an adrenaline fueled frenzy had come over the girl this round. She had fire in her eyes, aimed strait at the boy who put her partner to sleep.
And I mean that quite literally, Lea conjured up an incendio duo, the fire filling her eyes for a second before she sent it off strait for Henry.
All the while, Henry’s fire licked away at him as he worked his own wand, trying to get an Episkey off. It was hard to say how bold the boy had chosen to go as he waved his wand around, but it seemed to be above the minimum for sure. And just like that, his wand would sputter out, he would find no respite from it this round. Had it been the flames licking away at him, or the flames headed strait for him? Whatever it was, something had worked its way into his head. He would take yet another fireball to the chest. The dwindling flames replaced by new, young, hungry flames.
Bridget began her own scheming, removed from the world of fire. “Impedimenta!” An artful spell that only the older years knew. Exciting! It soared strait for Lea. But her flame had not gone out quite yet. She would move with ease to dodge the debilitating spell. The Badger would not end in the snake’s coil this time.

Bridget's words rung in his ears. Thier meaning lost within him. His mind telling him that they were lies....meaningless
Turning his wand on himself, flames flickering around him. Burning the edge of his clothes, heat flickered aginest his neck. Burning it. Creating sweat. Enlcosed in flames, Henry tried to focus. Trying to concentrate as he cleared his throat.
"Episkey!"
Nothing. Not even a spark. His wand remain silent as the flames enclosing him started to fizzle away.
Blue eyes on his wand, not looking at the hufflepuff. Not focused. Thoughts swirling within his mind, confirming his past questions...
Another incendio duo heading toward him. Not seeing it, mind focused on worsening his mental state and eyes on his wand when he got hit right in the chest. Flames busting around him. Enclosing him once again.
Wand lowering as the flames flickered around him. Burning him from the outside and yet his insides suffered more...
"Would brilliantly miss spells and not even be able to cast a simple healing spell..."
Henry's words spilled from his mouth, directed towsrd his partner and captain. Someone he always thought of as smart. Brave. Confident. Helpful. Kind.... sayinf kind words to keep him focus that was what hus mind translated her words to...
"I'm sorry your stuck with me as a partner"
The next few words spilled out. To quiet for Lea to hear but loud enough for Bridget to hear through the roaring flames. Henry stared at the lonely hufflepuff across from them, his confidence draining. If only Loli was there... the feline was his main sorude of bravely and confidence those days.
It was Henry's fault that Alexa laid unconscious, he deserved this. He deserved ti be next... to close his eyes and fall to the ground.
Henry looked out

What she knew about Lea: she was quick on her feet and with her wand. In the match of hers Bridget had supervised last year, she'd dealt many hits to the opposition while staying fairly untouched. If she could hinder those abilities and give Henry a moment to regroup after being aflame, they would be in a good position.
There was satisfaction is casting a spell other than Flipendo, at least, and this would be her first time using this particular jinx on the duelling stage. "Impedimenta!" Perhaps it was the lack of practice in a game-scenario, as the cast was average at best, that allowed the second year to easily avoid the jet of turquoise. But missing spells was to be expected, a part of duelling though she hoped to get to a point where she hit far more frequently. What was worrisome was Henry, struck with another bout of flames and his wand sputtering at the attempted Episkey. He wasn't looking great.
The harm to her partner was bad enough, but it seemed his spirits were also falling. "A fourth year healing spell," she retorted. He wasn't being fair to himself--after all, being on fire was more than enough to scatter your focus. "And even Dmitri misses spells. You're doing fine." She couldn't have him losing all confidence now, not with Lea readying to send him off the stage. Though he might have tried to say otherwise, she needed his help.
But this was more than being down about a few mistakes with the next uttered sentence. I'm sorry you're stuck with me as a partner. She couldn't help but look over at him, even if that meant her eyes were off Lea for a moment. "Henry..." She didn't know what to say. And the duelling stage was not the place for this, for such self-doubt and any attempts to convince him otherwise. With a quiet sigh, she forced herself to save it for later. "Just keep your head in the game, alright?"

One of her best and worst traits was stubbornness. So long as she cast spells while still being able to dodge, the hufflepuff would be able to last a few more rounds. Just- skies above- the girl wanted some sort of victory. A win, an accomplishment to glean from this more than other times. It was that fire and will that would come forth in her spell, aimed directly at the one hurting the most. She didn't know that meant mentally as well as physically- the second year hadn't paid much attention to their conversation, nor could hear whispered words.
"Incendio Duo!" Lea hit, the fire that had just died down roaring to life again. Success felt nice, but also typical- that was the nature of duelling. Just stay up a little longer... One flipendo wouldn't be enough to bring the girl down, but she'd never been good with keeping afloat after getting hit. Then, don't get hit.
Brown eyes would glance over to see the spell racing towards her- enough time to slide out of the way and let it continue its flight elsewhere. She watched for another, but nothing came from the other side of the platform. That meant it was time to figure out what to do next...

Would the snakes be able to extinguish the flames this round, or would the flames be stoked higher?
They chose to bandage over the flames. Bridget came to Henry's aid this round, it seemed that she wasn't willing to gamble on everything else. With so much as a flick of her wand and a simple utterance of "Reparifors." Henry would feel a calming sensation. He'd regain some of his vitality.
In similar fashion, Henry would try to repeat what he had failed to do last round. This time though, it seemed he limited his hunger for health. His Episkey would come out with ease this time. He would feel better than before. Sure, he and Bridget had ignored the flames, but each patch of skin they bit into and dwindled away, there were more freshly healed swatches of flesh.
As the flames eating Henry went away, Lea would reignite hers stronger and brighter than before. Her hands moved in a marvelous fashion, pronouncing her spell "Mimblewimble" in a truly eloquent way. It was beautiful, like a one word song to the audiences ears. And it was all for Bridget. She would fail to move out of the way; was it distraction from her own cast, or from Lea's performance? Galton couldn't say. Her mouth would be filled with a cramping tongue, once again. But this time it almost hurt.
The badger had saved itself from one snake's venous maw, but what would she be safe from the other?

If you fail then try again.... to fail again, right? Isn't that the expression
Henry aimed the tip of his wand for hinself, readying himself as he took a breath. Episkey might have been a fourth year spell but the teen didn't let the fact serve as a excuse to fail. Tensing up his limbs and straightening his back as he tried the healing spell again.
"Episkey."
A sudden cool relief flowed throughout his body. The burning sensation stopped and the flesms ceased to exist, the teen looked at his wand. He did it. He actually did it and the bot doubted himself the whole time.
Suddenly, Henry felt another cool relief. A sudden relaxer. His body felt relieved from the burns and sore, he felt better. His mind clearer without the pain thay incendio casued.
Henry took a breath, glanced over to Bridget when he saw where her wand was pointed. Suddenly the feeling disappeared, Henry felr guilty that the girl had to use a opportunity to cast a spell at the lone hufflepuff to heal him...
"Thanks."
Henry spoke with a short nod, turninf his focus back on the duel. Trying to gaoe Bridget's words to heart, focus on the duel. Mind on the duel. No more distractions.... or failures
Henry took his position, eyes ahead. Wand in front as his mind refocused on the duel. Telling himself that he will do better when out of the corner of his eyes he saw a spell fly from the hufflepuff's wand to Bridget.
Henry jumped to warn her but was to late. Wishing a little that he jumped in front of her like Lea did for Alexa moments before.
"Are you alright?"
Henry asked in a low whisper but then remembered that she wouldn't be able to reply, eyes ahead at the hufflepuff. Henry felt determined to continued, focused to win. He reminded himself of a few words, that he had to- hw had to make up for the momenrs before where he failed in the duel.
"We can still win this, just keep are head in the game. Right?"
