Thomas did not deign to pay too close attention to the... Banter... Flirting...? Whatever was going on between the duelists, crossing his arms as he observed the events of the round. Lucia's spell failed to find its mark, the Hufflepuff finding the chatty Slytherin to be more nimble than she originally anticipated. Hanako's spell failed to even emerge from his wand at all, perhaps the positively bizarre exchange between the teams was enough to throw the young man off of his game; Thomas knew he'd certainly be perturbed if he had to duel under such conditions, although it wasn't as if Hanako was an innocent individual in the circumstances.

However, Earl and Ileen were determined to make the most of their round, and unfortunately, it seemed that the bold had to fall. Though the Hufflepuff successfully levitated one of his opponents for a moment, Ileen was still able to send a mighty gust of wind his way with a well-aimed Ventus, striking Earl true and causing him to fall unconscious. As a result, Hanako was dropped in the same breath. Perhaps Ileen would find such a fact amusing. Admittedly, Thomas sort of did...

"Alright, he's down! Let the Hospital Wing have him," Thomas called to the duelists, imploring a brief pause so the duel could continue safely. A 2v1 would be tough, but Lucia seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders from what the Ravenclaw had seen so far, so he hoped she would stay cool and put up a good fight. The alternative would be like, so totally lame anyways. "Aaaaaaaand, resume!"

Edit: When I first posted this mod, I accidentally subtracted 20 HP from Ileen's health rather than Hanako's. It has been fixed as of now!

“Thank you. I can give you a hand with the passing out thing, if you want? And you probably should stop flirting and instead of hitting on them, you should just… you know… hit them."

“Ah yes~. Because you’ve been landing a lot more powerful hits than me since this duel began, right~? Did you forget who had to spend 2 rounds facing these two while their partner was blindfolded & having a little funny dance in the wind~?” He left the part where Ileen’s popularity as a target was a main reason for his survival during those dreaded rounds. What he does not want to remember, he does not.

“But I know that you have attention issues. Since they are more focused on me I understand your little banter to be the center of it again.”

“No one knows my attention issues more than you, dear Knight~” he hummed sarcastically, trying his best to refrain from smiling. “ Had to do something to balance out the attention we’re getting, hm~? Can’t let you have all the popularity yourself~”

Hanako thought it would be the end of the banter between him and pink hair there. Who’d want to continue talking to the one who attempted to hit him with a flipendo, right? What poor taste in men. However, Hanako soon saw that he was very wrong in that assumption. Not only did the Hufflepuff continue the banter, but even made his own plans! Was this what other people felt like when Hanako did the same to them? Goddess, no wonder why people wanted to shut him up. Nevertheless, he tried his best to stay unaffected by the Hufflepuffs word. [font=PT Sans] Unfortunate for Hana, Earl’s face was the main problem for his failure to keep a straight face. Hot people are much too powerful. “ I- no- didn’t I say this- I mean- can it, Hot kid!” he paused for a second. “ I MEAN FLAMING KID. FLAMING!”. Soon, this would be one of those moments where Hana looks back to, and will have an instinctive reaction to hide for a few days.

Utter shame. Hanako’s never going to flirt to piss someone off again. Sorry to Katherine, his wooing 101 teachers that had to see this disappointment. Sorry to his broken ego, who was already frail enough, to begin with. Sorry to his future self for needing to go on his wonderful life knowing this happened. Due to being unable to look at the Hufflepuff's face anymore, he turned his attention to the other Hufflepuff. A change of target might be good for him. Alas, he underestimated how affected his focus was. Just as he wasn’t able to conjure a good spell, his feet were no longer on the ground.

Great, just great. He took his eyes off the Hufflepuff boy for one second and was dropped mid-air. Which one should it be!? Look at the Hot Hufflepuff, or look away from the Hot Hufflepuff?! As embarrassed as Hana was, he didn’t need to choose because Ileen ended up choosing for him. However much thankful Hana was to her, he refused to show it. Nor could he even say anything except a few awkward coughing while he tried to get his red face back to normal.

While the last remaining Hufflepuff was left alone, she should be thankful for Earl. For he was the reason Hana would shut up in the next remaining rounds. A beautifully rare silence.

Doing as Strategized

If this was not karma, then Ileen did not know what justice was. No sooner had Hanako swung his arrogant and insolent speech, then he already got the bill. He was able to dodge Lucia's fire spell despite his big talk, but that wasn't all. First, his own spell failed, but then came the best.
A well-aimed leviosa from Earl after a few no less well-chosen words lifted her partner smoothly off his feet. The first time he was attacked and already he got caught.
Ileen wasted no time, but took the opportunity to strike back. Her wind jinx caught Earl shortly after he attacked Hanako, sending him to the ground and thus realising her partner from the spell.

She hadn't actually meant her announcement literally, but she’d take it. She winced barely noticeable as Earl collapsed. She would never get used to knocking out other students. It was against her nature. It made her feel bad. Sorry mate. But those were the rules and she would finally have to get used to them.
When Thomas Baines interrupted the duel to get Earl off the stage, Ileen focused on something she could handle better.
With a sly grin, she turned to Hanako, who was picking himself up off the floor next to her. "You're welcome. I always find floating around in a vacuum so uncomfortable. It's always better to be down to earth." She wiggled her eyebrows meaningfully. Actually, she didn't want her partner to get hit, but in this case it didn't look so painful and it just fit too well.
She nudged the Slytherin in the side and winked. "But hey, your strategy worked, at least they paid attention to you now. You'll learn to deal with it."

The jinx caught him square in the chest, hurling him backwards and smashing him against the wall. Earl fell silently. He was nearly grateful as darkness rushed to meet him, warmth enveloping him like a blanket. Everything hurt, from the tips of his singed cotton candy hair to the dark patches staining his pearly white skin.

Lucia's gasp was the last thing he heard. "I'm sorry," he mouthed. She seemed more concerned than angry, but that didn't stop guilt from rising in his chest. He was out like a light.

It was an odd round, with both Ileen and Hanako missing the spells that they cast. Uncanny, however, was how it seemed that Hanako's was so far from who ought to have been his intended target, Lucia, and how it seemed to fly closer to his partner. Perhaps the fall of his other opponent was distracting, more likely however there was some charm or quality that made Lucia hard to aim at. His partner Ileen was quick on her feet, good form too as Expelliarmus would have been rather obnoxious to contend with, particularly from an ally. Lucia's Flipendo was flawlessly executed, striking Hanako cleanly and likely knocking the wind out of him and causing a good amount of pain. Thomas winced sympathetically.

"Don't think you're supposed to try and hit your partner," he commented, idly.

Could he just hit her with a spell, already? Hanako did not appreciate her throwing salt over his wound. It’s not even a little bit of salt. It’s a whole bucket! That, or he’s overdramatic. Whatever it was, he huffed and decided not to pay any mind to her. Instead, he focused on the last target . Should be easy right? 2 against 1. Hufflepuff girl should just give up already. Sure she looked less bruised than him or Ileen, but it shouldn’t be that hard to get rid of her.

Or so he thought. Perhaps it was because Flameo-Boy was gone, and the only lovely creature that he was staring at was Hufflepuff girl. Now, Hanako has seen a lot of pretty people. Like- a lot. Hell, he lived with more than a few in the Severus Snape dorm. He’d like to think he had built some sort of resistance to that sort of thing. But those deep blue eyes? Thirsty for revenge for her fallen comrade and burned with passionate determination?

Hot damn.

And for a while that was all he could think about, momentarily forgetting he had a duel to win. The next thing he knew, his wand no longer pointed to the target, but to his own partner. Just as the disarming spell flew out of his wand, so did his daze. He gasped as if he finally got air after being submerged from deep waters. “ Sorry “ . he paused. “ Wait- sorry?” Hanako Tone doesn’t say ‘sorry’! Especially to people like Knight!

Being distracted meant you were an easy target. Before he could figure out what the hell just happened, he was knocked back with a spell, making him feel even worse than before.

In the fit of his frustration, he stared back to the Hufflepuff Girl, with a clearly displeased look on his face. Hanako didn’t want to say anything in case he would be forced to be disqualified from the game. But he was sure she wasn’t a normal hottie. ‘ The Hottie’ perhaps? Hanako hasn’t done any background checks on any of his opponents but he was sure that was the only logical reason he could daze out like that. Vellas. For goodness sake, attractive people were something he saw every day! None of them had made him lose focus so easily like that. Then again, not all of them were Vella's.

Just as he realized the opponent was much more challenging than he thought, his scowl slowly morphed into a grin, followed by gentle laughter. Perhaps it wasn’t such an easy win for them, after all. “ Apologies~” he responded to the moderator. “ I thought I saw a spider on her hand and got confused. We Slytherins are terrified of that, you know? Won’t do it again, I promise~”

He then turned only to Ileen, his words barely audible to anyone but her. “ I don’t like you, but good job on being quick on your feet. Believe me when I say that wasn’t intentional, although I have thought about hitting you with a spell a few times in my head. But it’s only supposed to be in my head. I'm more embarrassed than anyone at that mistake. Just whatever you do, maybe avoid looking at her. It’s..” Why did he even want Ileen to believe him? It was good to know your partner isn’t secretly here to just take you out. Perhaps he just needed to confine his worries to someone. Regrettably, the only person around that could do that is Knight.

Hufflepuff girl was hot. Hot & scary. Whatever spell he was in earlier, it made him insanely sick to the stomach. To be so enchanted all of a sudden and have no mental strength to fight it was….terrifying. So much that he finally talked seriously to his partner. Gone were the moments they were bantering back and forth, he needed assurance! What if he went through that again? Sure his eyes liked what he saw (Lucia) but that was nowhere as satisfying as winning a duel.

This was a rather frustrating round. Not only did she miss her own spell, but barely managed to dodge the friendly fire from Hanako. Just a quick step to the side and it flew past her. Confused, she spinned around to look at him, observing if that had been intentional. She had teased him quite a bit - but he wouldn’t, would he?
But he looked as shocked as she did, honesty and regret written all over his face. He didn’t need to explain it. Ileen knew right away that it had been an accident. It had happened to her in duels before, her wand not following her will and target. It happened.
What she hadn’t expected though was him apologizing to her. Even more surprised she blinked at him, was just about to say that he’s fine as she saw him being hit by the other girl.

Ileen winced with a gasp. She herself knew how much something like that could hurt. Apparently, her opponent now preferred to focus on her partner.
And just now, when she felt sympathy for Hanako, he found his words again and started another speech, which began with the fact that he did not like her.
The sympathy disappeared and she rolled her eyes meaningfully. "That's all right. Don't worry about it. These things happen. Let's just finish this quickly."
Her dark eyes turned to Lucia.
