Storm Clouds at Alexa Mackenzie and Lea Hirsch
Alexa:[d10: 7] → Miss
Lea: [d10: 8] → Miss
The fog claimed the round. All but one combatant seemed to be lost. Spells flew left and right, illuminating the dense, milky air that surrounded the Badgers. It was actually quite pretty, a light show of violence. Galton couldn't help but marvel at the spectacle. It was so hard to tell what was happening within the foggy weather that it was almost easier to just stare in awe.

But of course, there were actual duelists within, fighting for the glory of their houses and notoriety from their peers. The spells from the Hufflepuffs could be heard with a mild distortion after making their way from the thick barrier. One "Arresto Momentum" and "Obscuro" from Alexa and Lea respectively. Their spells would shoot out to their chosen targets. It seemed that each had a favorite. Lea shot hers toward Bridgett. Rotten aim though. It was hard to aim when the opponent was all but a blob in the distance. Bridget had an easy time getting out of the way. Likewise, Alexa sent hers to slow young Mr. Knight. Ah, young love. It seems that her infatuation with him didn't end at the dueling stage. Terrible aim though, she shared the same curse her partner Lea had it appeared.

Lucky for Alexa, the infatuation she held for Mr. Knight was reciprocal. He sent a flipendo barreling strait into the fog for her. Though, he too, missed his mark. Had it been the fog, or the tiny invisible tickling hands that he could still feel ripping into him? Hard to say. Would the pair be thankful that their couple's touch had not reached them this round? Probably.

There was one though, who succeeded. Bridget Collins, made for the same move that Henry did. A flipendo aimed at the hazy figure of Alexa. It appeared that Henry might have some competition. A thud would be heard from the impact of the flipendo. The details were hazy, but it was hard to miss the sound of an on-target flipendo.

The fog persisted. The storm persisted. The fight persisted. Would weather claim the next round like it had this round?

Bridget squinted through the fog, trying to make out her opponents' outlines. The cast of Nebulus had been carefully strategized, of course, the slight hindering of themselves deemed worth surrounding the Hufflepuffs in fog, but it certainly made it harder to capitalize. Luckily, most spells gave off light. The Slowing Charm and the Flipendo she let Henry release half a second before hers, though not the Obscuro, lit up the platform, told her where her target was.

Her Flipendo followed the path laid out in her mind much closer than the Wind Jinxes had, striking true on the redhead. From the bits she could see and hear, it seemed like they’d gone one of two on their double attack. That was alright, and Henry forcing Alexa to dodge his spell had no doubt aided in making hers harder to avoid. In turn, the Slytherins avoided both spells coming at them with ease, the fog making it rather a shot in dark for the Hufflepuffs.

That made for two hits on Alexa. She couldn’t see yet what kind of toll it was taking, but the wind and straight force had to hurt. The fog lingered, and lightning still crackled ominously around the badgers, hopefully taking up a fraction of their thoughts as a looming threat even if it had yet to strike. They had a tentative advantage at the moment; now, they needed to establish it further.

Focus. A key element in a duel. What can lead to a success or failure.

However, when there's action all around then focus can be hard to come by....

The third year aimed his wand for the fog, finding himself squinting to find his target. The fog mixed with the storm seemed to appear like chaos to the lad as he squinted his eyes and whispered " flipendo."

The knocback jinx aimed for his girlfriend, watching as it flew into the strom when another spell came flying out toward the lad.

Henry side stepped the spell before reverting his gaze back at the hufflepuff side, the sparks from his knocback jinx flew through the fog which meant it didn't meet its target.

Taking a peek at Bridget, the third year noticed she dodged the spell headed for her and heard the thud of her own knocback jinx hitting Alexa. Henry turned his gaze on the hufflepuffside, squinting to see what type of condition the red head was in after being hit twice.

Henry felt bad for her but this was a duel so there won't be any hard feelings at the end ad he aimed his wand, nodding toward his partner and captain for a moment moving his eyes back on their opponents. The weather conditions was beneficial to both sides but Henry held a grip on his wand reminding himself that they couldn't lose... they couldn't

This fog was not helping at all. Dark clouds obscured her vision, one after the other until it felt like she was someplace else entirely- more of a dreamscape- had the floor not remained the same. It would be what kept her grounded as she squinted to figure out where the blobs of the Slytherin were. "Obscuro," the hufflepuff would call, watching as her spell flew then disappeared from sight. Nothing else seemed to come of it- whether it had worked or not would remain a mystery, but Lea's hopes weren't high.

The nice thing was that it seemed as though no spell had headed her way. There were no sudden bolts of will that needed dodging, just the eerie, quiet landscape before her. How well her partner was doing remained unknown, but the second year wished to remain quiet in case they tried to use talking to locate the hufflepuffs within the fog.

So for Lea, everything was an unknown- except the lightning. At least she had not been attacked by the storms above.

Alexa barely heard her partner ask about her welfare. Still, she nodded absently in response, as she continued to try to make out her opponents in the fog. With her wand pointed ahead of her, she took advantage of the moment a gap came in the fog and she saw a quick shadow on the other side of the stage. Shouting her incantation, she wondered which opponent her spell was flying toward. Not that it seemed to have mattered: she saw the bright spell shoot off sideways, completely missing the shadow, as the fog closed over her and Lea again.

She noticed that Lea's attempts to blindfold one of their opponents also missed… This impenetrable fog was killing them! But it didn't seem to be hurting the Slytherins. At least, not one of them. For while one (she couldn't see which of course) missed their mark with the next spell, the second opponent's spell flew true… Striking her directly in the chest.

She hadn't heard of the incantation through the fog, which dampened sound, but as she flew through the air and landed hard on her back, her breath whooshing out of her lungs, she knew the spell had been Flipendo. An effective cast, as well. The air knocked out of her, she struggled to breathe for a moment, even as she struggled to rise, rolling onto her side and pushing herself back to her feet as she gasped like a landed fish.

Regaining her feet, she scrambled back to the center of the stage next to her partner, and prepared to cast her next spell.

The fog took the round once again. The milky air spoiled the duel around it, no spell would be spared it's creamy touch. The Vipers repeated their last rounds actions; a volley of flipendos headed right for Alexa. Or, where they thought Alexa was.

To the untrained eye, it would be hard to know what Alexa was up to in her blanket of fog, but Galton had keen enough senses to see. The girl was on the tip of her toes, ready for the incoming barrage. She would not be sending a spell back this round, no, she needed all her energy to stay alive. Henry's flipendo exited the fog first, clearly wide of the Badger. And then came Bridget's. As quickly as it entered the fog it exited, leaving tiny pinhole path cut through the fog. It seemed that Alexa had been successful in her efforts, she remained untouched by the Snakes.

But she would not escape the round unscathed. Even with the fog, Lea could be heard clearly. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Where exactly the spell went, no one could quite tell at first. Had Lea aimed to low and hit the floor? Had she been able to cast it at all?

As the fog dissipated, slowly fading away, Alexa rose up, up, and up. It seemed that Lea's wand had a bit of payback in mind for the previous spell Alexa had sent at her. The Badger hung suspended in the air, storm rumbling now closer than ever. It was clear what had happened to Lea's spell.

"Flipendo"

Henry incarnated, aiming his wand for where he thought Alexa stood but was wrong when he saw the sparks of his knockback jinx fly from the fog.

Hitting the ground and disappearing into to thin air, Henry lowered his wand a little as he stared at the fog. Blue eyes gazing at the mixture of strom clouds and darkness as he wondered why he was there.

The third year didn't understand what he dueling there at the platform, majtory of his spells missed and he was even hit. Confused and a little panicked, the lad was doubting his abilities when the fog cleared and the two hufflepuffs became visible.

Staring for a moment, Henry watched Alexa rise in the air. Curious as the lad looked over at Bridget, neither of them casted the levitation charm at her. Then who did?

Henry looked back toward the hufflepuff side, noticing the other’s wand and where it was aimed.. she was the one cast the spell....

Henry stared at the sight before looking over at Bridget for a moment. It was a surprise to see the sight but it also was a good sign since it meant neither him or his partner got hit that round.

Henry took his stance, aimed his wand and got ready for the next actions as he tried not to doubt his own abilities....

After a moment of deliberation, she opted for the same jinx she'd just incanted. Not terribly creative, for sure, but it served a purpose that remained from when she'd last cast it. The blue light cut across the stage and into the fog along with Henry's--perhaps not quite as in-sync as when she and Santario had done this sort of thing at the end of last year, but decent enough.

Anticipation built for a split second like the lightning crackling over half of the stage, but much like those bright bolts, it seemed they'd both missed Alexa. In fairness to themselves, even if she would rather execute than excuse, the fog was still thick and no spell left the redhead's lips, focus instead on going untouched. Good. Not that they'd missed her, but that she felt that retreat necessary, that there would be one less spell to contend with. Even without completely taking an opponent out, you could severely limit their impact.

Interestingly, no spell came back at them, though she'd been prepared to move from her position at Lea's incanting. As the fog cleared, so did the confusion surrounding what had happened, for Alexa was suspended in midair. Perhaps they'd moved around enough to lose track of where exactly each other were? Regardless, Alexa was something of a sitting duck now, and notably floating higher than the typical Levitation Charm caused. A shame for the Hufflepuffs, but their setback was Slytherin's boon.

Alexa prepared to cast her spell as the fog began to dissipate, but then saw both of the Slytherins with their wands pointed at her and made a snap decision. As her opponents shot off their spells, she snapped her arms into her sides, and quickly dodged one and then the other of the spells, wondering what they were, as she could still not hear well with the fog.

But she heard her partner perfectly well, as Lea shouted the incantation for the levitation charm. Yeah! Alexa thought, this would make one of their opponents vulnerable, unable to evade spells. But something was wrong… As she watched carefully through the fog, expecting one of the Slytherins to start lifting off the ground, she realized that she was lifting off the ground! Lea's spell had gone awry and hit her! Inwardly she groaned as she floated up, and up, and up, seemingly higher than a normal levitation charm… Her partner had cast a strong one, it seemed.

Well, there was nothing for it now. If she was stuck up here, at least she had a good view of her opponents as the fog went away completely. She wouldn't be able to dodge any attacks, but maybe she could hit one of them! Alexa raised her wand and prepared to cast her next spell.

She was mortified- but first, the positives.

Alexa had managed to dodge the Slytherin's spells, while Lea didn't have to worry about spells coming towards her. Things had been looking up- the fog was dissipating and the second year had time to focus on her spell. Powerful spells were more challenging to control, but it seemed her skills had helped, throwing the charm flawlessly-

in the wrong direction. The fog had gotten her confused, the small circles she had done as she dodged spells that never came through the mists. Perhaps it would just be a close call like Alexa's fire, but no- the hufflepuff could feel when the spell connected, the new control of keeping her teammate hovering in the air. "I'm so sorry," she would whisper- eyes wide and cheeks flushed with panic and embarrassment. This was not how this was supposed to go- she did not want to hurt her partner. Lea would make this up to her later- after the duel- but for now the girl would have to live with the consequences and actually focus on attacking the Slytherins rather than her own team.
