Hugh's feet stuck to the ground as the part-giant tried to tug on them. They did not budge for even an inch. With a frustrated glance at @Jürgen Hess, he cocked his head to the side. Anger boiled within him, he could feel it piling up, and he could feel himself pushing against it. “You know this won't hold me here for long.” He calmly let Jürgen know. A thought crossed his mind of snatching the boy by the neck, hurling him upwards and breaking his back, but the chances of him missing his mark and making a fool of himself were real.
Another girl (@Tyranni Whitethorn), unknown to Hugh, would come demanding answers. From Jürgen's interactions with her, she seemed to be his date. Who did she believe herself to be? Silly girl. Getting mixed up with them was proof enough, she was using as much logic as Jürgen was. A good fit, then, Hugh thought to himself as he stayed silent. Only his raised eyebrows and questioning glance would tell her he wasn't about to give her a grand speech, defending his actions to another third year that had no business with him.
@Galton Lansdale addressed her as well as the crowd, though most of the latter were slowly fading away towards either the ball or the field of eels. Good. Hugh would prefer themselves to be left alone if the others were only going to meddle. The majority would likely demand an explanation, just like Jürgen's girlfriend, and there was simply no time for all that nonsense. Straightening the copper helmet that balanced on his head, the part giant nodded to his housemate. “It's true. Now let us help her. Begone.”
Behind him, he could hear @Serena Towers talking to @Erin Ryan. It occurred to him that even though they had to be the same year, the girls did not seem that acquainted. Then again, one of them hunted giants not long ago and the other still had a tendency to have talks over tea with rats. As far as odd pairs go, this one seemed a stretch. Their whole “team” felt like a stretch. An adept duellist that goes to a frenzy if you throw candy at him with clear delusions of grandeur, an armour-smithing rat-whisperer the size of a build-a-bear and himself, an oversized teenage Scrooge with anger management issues and facial hair that screamed Elvis Presley's “Suspicious Minds” at you.
And for what did they show up together? To save a ruthless bully who had rock friends for company and a foul plate of the wrong escargots for dinner, and prevent her from turning into the Wicked Witch of the West's uglier niece.

This was her very first ball with a date and that too, it was her boyfriend. Vivian was so excited for this ball, hoping that this one would be more pleasant than the last one. At least to her, the last one wasn't unfortunate except for the fact that she behaved like a drunk person for a few minutes... All this happened because of the spiked punch and she was dumb enough to realise that only after Cassie told her. What's over is over, so all she got to do is prevent herself and Aldor from not consuming anything in this ball. Tho the blonde started adorning herself before many, she lost track of time being busy in prinking herself. As she sussed that Aldor would have been waiting for her all this time, she zoomed out from the mirror to take a final look at her pale Jasper, illusion necked dress made of tulle fabric. As always, she wasn't satisfied with her makeup, tho she spent a lot of time on it her mind ceaselessly wanted to redo it again and again but there was no more time left for that. She could do nothing but force herself to think that the pink makeup look looks good on her.
Everything was fine until the question arose, did she meet the theme? maybe... or maybe not! In the first place, she didn't know what the theme was! And her mum sent her the dress before she could get to know it. That was no problem as the dress looked pretty when she has a date... thank god! her mum didn't send her any funny outfit... especially the pumpkin outfit she said she would get her when having an argument in the last holiday. Finally she left the dorm after tucking her waist bag, at least in this ball she wouldn't lose her things. As she scurried out to the common room, she noticed Aldor waiting for her and scrunched her face knowing how long she had made him wait. " Hey! Did I take too long? I am sorry" as she slumped her shoulders and smiled guiltily. As they both entered the ball, she could notice that the ball was filled with so many people, so many unknowns and some known faces. Her eyes grew brighter at the sight of this splendid decoration and the first thing that caught her attention was the floating pumpkins, "it looks so good, isn't it?" as she turned to Aldor's side with a bright smile.

There he was, the green eyed boy with messy hair, who was always wearing an old hoodie and baggy clothing, was now wearing a fancy suit and had actually fixed his hair for once.
Aldor smiled as soon as he saw his date, he was getting nervous, he had not even said a word and he already felt his knees weakening, but he needed to keep control over himself, this wasn't the first time he would go on a date with Vivian. Just like Aldor, someone else seemed to be happy to hear Vivian's voice, Freyja, Aldor's gray rat.
''Hey, don't worry, you didn't take long at all, I actually just arrived.''
The boy gave her a reasuring smile, he didn't want to mess up, not today. Last ball wasn't exactly fantastic, he was alone most of the time, and when he finally stayed with someone it was for only a few minutes until he decided to go back and hide in the dorms. Today would be different, he would actually manage to do things right, and he wasn't alone, for once, he wanted to stay positive and hope for this to be a great day.
Once he finished overthinking everything, he turned back to Vivian and listened to her comment on the decorations.
''It looks great.''
He paused for a few seconds as he realized that it was probably good moment to compliment Vivian, he was not exactly sure how to do this without breathing heavily and feeling his heartbeat race at a hundred miles per hour, but he would try.
While he took courage to speak up, Freyja was already trying to get Vivian's attention, crawling around Aldor's shoulder, begging for the other Hufflepuff to pick her up.
''Y-You look really great too.''
His face turned red almost instantly, he had not even recieved an answer from her and he was already freaking out, but he had to relax, he took a deep breath and tried his best to stay calm. Now that he thought about it, he wasn't sure if HE was wearing appropiate clothes for the theme of this Ball, his suit was mostly purple, and he was pretty sure that purple made him look good, but he didn't know if the darker theme of the Ball would've required something different.
Still, he shouldn't worry at this point, he could only hope that Vivian liked his choice of clothing, after all, it wasn't that often that anyone had the chance to see Aldor wearing something fancy, it was quite impressive to see him like this, but otherwise, he was still Aldor Humbleglow after all.

Roleplaying as iNPC Celeste LeblancThe boy muttered something about the candy the 'lady' gave him, but - though she felt more and more sorry for the mystery older girl with every passing second - Celeste didn't reply, hoping that the irritating first-year would stalk off and find someone else to harass. Granted, Celeste had approached the boy first, rather than the other way round, so it wasn't harassment - but the sour French girl felt it in her right to style it as she wanted.
"Only a little bit mean," said Lena, turning to Celeste. "He is a bit funny, no?" Lena opened her palm to offer Celeste some of the boy's sweets; Celeste turned her nose up.
"Not in the slightest," replied Celeste, raising an eyebrow back at Lena. She looked at the sweets. "No, thank you," she said, curtly. "I'm not taking anything he's touched."
"What do they say? ...Hatred is closer to love than indifference."
Celeste could tell Lena was joking, though she supposed that most might not be able to tell that; Lena had said it in such a monotonous voice, which, Celeste had noticed, most were not able to see through. Celeste had grown tireless over the years of people's whispers behind her back: Celeste Leblanc doesn't understand human feeling, Celeste Leblanc is just an empty shell, Celeste Leblanc has no soul... and while, at the beginning, this may have sparked a bubble of joy in Celeste's heart, she had soon grown to resent these accusations simply because of how far from the truth they were. Undoubtedly, Celeste understood human emotion and feeling, far more, it appeared, than many others around her. She could tell when someone was joking and when they were serious; it was second nature to her. Unfortunately, most people never noticed this about her, but she regarded it as one of her highest qualities. Sometimes she consoled herself - if all your qualities were open for everyone to see, everyone would know everything about you. So it's best to keep some things under a veil. Truth be told, Celeste often lived in fear of how much she exposed about herself through her actions. Though she only very rarely said anything about her personal life, Celeste felt certain that, if anyone was determined enough, they could relatively quickly discover a lot about her simply by dissecting her actions and her words - and, of course, her thoughts. But the thoughts weren't so difficult to access, or at least not the big picture of what she was thinking. Celeste didn't claim to be a mind-reader, but she knew how to decipher the secrets that lay beyond the eyes. The window to the soul, the second-year often said to herself of eyes. What can you hide behind that whirlpool of colour that is the human eye? Unpredictable, wild, dangerous. The traitor of the face’s mask. If Celeste looked deep into the human eye, beyond the generally accepted parameters of white and iris and pupil, its colours would begin to disperse, escaping the measured sheet of solid hue people tricked your irises to don and unleashing themselves into the wild: an untamed synthesis of unrestrainable colours which glinted like fire, each movement telling the story of a lifetime - birth launching into life launching into death, on and on and on, until the end of time.
That being said, Celeste didn't need to perform any kind of mystical eye-reading to know that Lena was joking, because Lena was Lena. And Lena, at this moment, was joking.
"I don't hate him," said Celeste, in French. "I am wholly indifferent." She paused. "I don't hate you, Lena. But if you were to do something as - as insolent - as that little boy just did, I would have to put you in your place. That wouldn't mean I would like you any less, or hate you any more. It would just mean there was something about you that I thought I needed to correct." She flashed her eyes at Lena with a small smile.STATS

"I've got several of these" Juniper didn't know how to reply to this. The fact that a boy just looked her dead in the eye, seriously, and told her he had many crowns, was just beyond her. She was, for a moment, struck dumb.
Reducio
Then, slowly, she nodded. As if she understood the concept of having multiple crowns, though she never would. "Oh! Really? Wow, that's just-" She gave him a thumbs up and widened her eyes a little. "so cool. And totally relatable. I had a few plastic crowns when I was two years old, you know- but I won't brag.." Her voice drew off and she shut up. She knew she was impressing no one, much less this guy right here. "Right, so, I'll just-" She smiled and pointed. "Go get that drink. She walked away from the wanna-be prince and to her friend. "Wow, my date to the ball is just- so- ughh! Lin, you have nooo idea. I should of just gone alone. Boys are annoying." She nodded to herself, then patted her friend's back. "Sooo, what's up with youuuu?" She noticed her friend wasn't standing arm-in-arm with a boy either, which June took as a good sign. It meant her friend wasn't possessed by the evil charm of boys just yet. Lord, June will never let that happen again. She was going... solo. That's right, she could pull off what batman did, but better. She won't be a lonely guy dressed in black, she'll just be single forever. Juniper works alone. Yeah, that sounds very sad.
She glanced behind her, and saw her date walking. Hopefully not to her. So she quickly avoided his gaze hoping she was short enough for him to just walk right by her. Over her, even. Walk into her, sure, just not to her. But sure enough, the crowned boy was at her side with some candy a smug look. Juniper leaned forward and avoided contact with his arm by moving sideways a few steps. She gave him an accusing look as if to say "no touch" Without saying hello, he announced that he met some person who thought her was her boyfriend. That was odd, Juniper as never dated anyone in her life. But the words "Short guy" told her enough. "Cody..." She hissed under her breath. Then she put on a smile and looked up at her date. "Don't worry about him. He's a... what you posh people call people like him?" Then, bringing up the only Shakespeare quote she knew, she put on a rough English accent. "he hath no more brain than I have in mine elbows, or whatever that quote is." She attempted a smile at Gideon. She wasn't angry that he said something to annoy Cody, but he went too far when he said they were 'together'. She knew fairly well that he didn't mean they were dating. In fact, she was pretty sure Gideon would wash his hands as soon as he could when she wasn't looking or something. But she just didn't like the sound of the word 'together'. Especially when it was talking about June and him.
She glared at Gideon. "For the record, we are not together. At all. We're just... next to each other. Talking." She nodded as if that made sense to the boy. She doubted anything she said would go through that head of is, it surely was bruised from wearing heavy crowns for so long. However, she forgot her annoyance when he asked where her drink was. It turned to panic. "Oh, my drink... I- was... I er... Well! I totally forgot-" But she was saved from whatever she "forgot" when a boy shyly walked up to her and said hi. "Hello" She said, a bit confused. She didn't know the boy... did she? She would actually feel VERY bad if she did know him and forgot about him. A million and one worries seemed to form in her head as she tried to recognize the boy.
Did she make him a promise to meet him here? Oh, gosh, she just really hoped she didn't forget anything. But that wasn't the case, apparently. Instead, the boy told her she did really well in the performance. She wiped some hair from her face with a smile. "Oh, thank you! I actually didn't think anyone saw me, what with all the super cool singers at the center of attention." She laughed. What was that she said about working alone? That boys were dumb? It was forgotten. She never thought or said such a thing and there was no proof. She was talking to one right now, she never could have said such of thing! Check tape, because June is pretty sure she never thought such a thing.
Even though she didn't do much in the performance, she still appreciated the fact that this boy walked up to her to tell her she did well. It made her happy. It was the small things, seriously, that made someone's day. And the fact that this boy unknowingly saved Juni from giving a terrible excuse was also something she was thankful for. So she decided to introduce herself. "Well, I'm Juniper! Buuut! Please just call me June or Juni, it's so much easier." She smiled at the boy. For some reason, she liked him a lot better than Gideon. Maybe it was the absence of a crown on his head or the absence of the smug look- but he gave off way more welcoming vibes. For one, he had the courage to just walk up to her, and two, he clearly wasn't a snobby kid. He was just wearing a simple suit, much like the ones her father wore.
She wanted nothing more than to keep smiling at this boy, even if she barely knew him. Right, it's weird, isn't it? How do things like this happen? The most random way, too, if you must. She knew her friend was standing right there, and would most likely tease her for it, but Juniper grinned wider and said "I really like your suit, it really..." It really what? She thought quickly. "Matches your hair." Unfazed by the stupid thing she just said, she winked to him and turned to her friend, her eyebrows raised and a goofy look on her face.

His wand would shoot out of his hand. Admittedly he was surprised he did not see it coming (Seer's percentile chance to auto-dodge attacks) and that he lacked the nimble nature to avoid his friend Galton's attack. A wand represented, no it did more than represent, it was power to a wizard. An extension of their will a focus of their power. His blackthorn wood wand would skip and bound across the ground. "For once," he announced with frustration through gritted teeth.
His date irate, sadly the least of his concerns if he left Hugh under the changeling's spell. "Galton, Hugh is being influenced by her!" The Gryffindor insisted, but lacked the time to explain. What he did know was that Erin was nobody's friend, Lowe's included. The violent, obviously mad young woman, in the absence of the advent of a horrific change, had proven herself instable and unsuitable for social events. "The girl is a hag!" Well, not quite yet but the lifecycle of a dark creature such as a hag was not only a complicated but also fiercely debated subject.
"I am sorry Miss Whitethorn," he did not turn towards her because he had made enemies of not only a hag but also a part-giant, at least temporarily. "I need you to stay away from Erin," he repeated the warning he gave her before. "And her thrall," one of the biggest guys in the room "Hugh." His options were limited for as long as Hugh stood between Jürgen and Erin. Killing her was the easy part, he just needed to get to her even if that meant going through Galton and Hugh both.
Galton would talk about murder, he was not wrong. If anything Hess was surprised, Lansdale did not seem like the sort that paid attention. "If you know about the slugs, then get out of my way!" The pureblood shouted, his face almost as red as their house colors. "Today is her birthday, she is about to change and when that happens people" important people comparatively "are going to die. We are out of time, abandon your sentiment and help me make Hugh stand down." Hugh was right, it was a matter of time before Hugh was free, before his soles tore the earth from the ground and his meaty fingers wrapped around his throat.
His options were limited, beyond urging for assistance he sorely felt he would not gain he would have to topple the giant and his candy gobbling side-kick. It was for their own good. He had one shot to take Hugh down -- he would draw his wizard tight. The concept simple, wrap his legs while they were affixed to the ground, when his spell broke (and it would) the part giant would likely topple to the ground. Not the most glamorous of his options but he needed to get Hugh out of his way.

And there it was. @Jürgen Hess made a big mistake, bigger than anything else he could have done. He was clever enough to not turn his back on his Gryffindor friends, but his anger had left him blind to reason. Seeing Jürgen come closer with what seemed like a roll of tape, Hugh's cage was left open. Like a predator eyeing his prey, the part giant would silently wait. One step, two steps, … it was just a matter of time by now. Anyone ought to know you don't poke a bear with a stick.
If Jürgen managed to come close to Hugh and started taping his knees together, Hugh would duck and grab hold of Jürgen's body. With little choice left, the giant would try to grab any part of Jürgen's body and break it. Hindering his friend in the process. Pain from broken limbs was temporary, the nurse could fix him up with the snap of his fingers. What needed to be done now, was preventing Jürgen from getting in the way. And with his own magic often failing him, Hugh was left to resort to his heritage. He'd only prove others right in doing so, he knew this deep down. People would again see a vicious giant assaulting one of Hogwarts' students.
If Jürgen never made it to Hugh, though, the part giant would have remained still and calm. Waiting, for his friend to see reason.

Galton was... exaggerating right? Oh come on, he had to be. No one was actually trying to murder another student, were they? Things were bad in this school, Serena knew that but murder was a whole new level and it was a level that she would have liked to believe no one was actually ready to get to. But then again... no one really expected hags to infiltrate the school and turn students into them.
Without hesitation, she snapped the wristguard on her right arm, which had held her wand. It pushed it out, allowing her to grab it in her hand. A piece of fancy metal tech that her father had helped her to make. It did not really do much more than serve its purpose as a wand storage space but it was pretty handy to grab her wand quickly in times like this. Hugh backed up whatever Galton was saying and she found herself staring at the trio of Gryffindors (though she did not know Hess was one yet).
She frowned, staring at them. The guy had attacked Hugh, he was trying to murder Erin? He insisted that Hugh was being influenced by Erin, which... could have totally been true. Serena could not guarantee that that was not the case. Everything she knew on the matter had come from Hugh himself, after all.
He shouted about the slugs, claiming today was Erin's birthday and she was about to change. The fear that struck Serena's heart at that moment made her entire body shake a little, goosebumps quickly appearing on her arms underneath her jumper. They were almost out of time then... If what the boy was saying was true, then they did not have time to waste nor did they have time to try multiple plans. They only got one shot at this. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Serena snapped, screaming at the boy she did not know as her eyes watered a little. She was not necessarily a quiet person, she was not known to be quiet but she did not scream often, "If we're running out of time then stop fighting us and help us. Let us try. We have to bloody try!" She was fuming.
Erin knew Serena as a crybaby. Today was no different. Her anger and her outrage at the whole situation brought tears to her eyes. "Shit, we don't have time for this," She complained angrily in a mutter more to herself but loud enough for the others to hear. Her mind raced. She knew what the plan was but how the hell were they going to execute it with someone attacking Hugh and trying to attack Erin? Were they really going to do it right here, with everyone around? Others could get hurt. But... there seemed to be a shortage of time, if the boy was right. It was likely here and now or never... She needed to move. She needed to do something. She needed to calm her beating heart.
Looking over at Erin, "We won't let him hurt you. But you're just going to have to trust us, okay? We have a plan to get the slugs out of you without hurting you or anyone else... But I'll be honest, I have no idea if this will work but... it's our best shot, so just... trust us, okay? Just... stay still, please?" She admitted as calmly and as confidently as possible - though her voice was a little shaky, trying to reason with her. She was hoping she could convince Erin to just not make this any harder than it needed to be. If Erin decided to run away from the whole thing, it would get so much worse. Serena really did not fancy trying to track down whatever slugs came out of her as she ran - what if there were like a million tiny little ones like parasites that could not even really be seen? Then they would be screwed.

Jürgen may or may not have just made a bad move. He thought the guy would have been smart enough to know that he shouldn’t come within Hugh’s grabbing range. But little ol’ Hess hadn’t been thinking right to begin with, so who knows. Galton would lower his wand; casting would be a little more complicated given the potential brawl that was about to go down between his friends. Plus, he had barely liked the idea of attacking his friend to begin with.
Instead, it was time to prepare. He needed to show that they were actually going to help, they had figured something or other out. He would pull the can of slug repellent from on of his large robe pockets. It took a second to find, as his pockets were also filled with random bits of candy and such, but with repellent in hand he would begin about making a decent sized circle around the group, centered on Erin, spraying repellent the whole time. It was like snails. Make a salt circle to keep them inside because the salt burns them up. Slugs were just homeless snails, so the principle must be the same, right? Coat the ground with a nice ring of repellent to keep all the new slug friends inside it.
Yet, all the while, he would try to plead with his friend, and crowd, that they were here to help. “She did nothing to us, you idiot.” Name calling always helped. “We have time. Help us prevent anyone from dying! Please Jürgen.” There was pain in his voice. His dear friend wasn’t supposed to be a murderous fiend. All the while he would go on spraying his containment ring around. It would have to work. He wouldn’t let his friend become a murderer, nor let someone die. That wouldn’t be befitting of Galton the Glorious.

Nicholas must have been hearing things, clearly the absurdity of the situation and his worry for his date had affected his ability to comprehend. The alternative explanation was that the girl had just made a pun and that was a reality in which the boy did not wish to reside. She was clearly in pain, her voice cracking and her eyes watering as she struggled to answer his questions as to whether or not the finger hurt. The reaction was proof enough, the finger was damaged, rather badly it would seem. Brave facade aside, Aurora was wounded, and the crushing grip she was providing with her non-gouged hand would likely soon break Nicholas’s fingers as well. He didn’t flinch, the painful sensation of having his digits held in a vice ignored for the time-being as adrenaline continued to govern his each and every action. He had never really learned much about the chemicals that flowed through the human body, the mysteries of biological science as arcane to him as later year magic, but he was very familiar with the effects of that particular substance. Effects that he was growing increasingly dependent on.
Nicholas nodded tersely at her suggestion to get help, seeking out a professor to fix her finger was almost certainly the most intelligent option laid before the pair of previously blushing twelve year olds. That didn’t mean that the baser part of Nicholas’s being didn’t want to sock Zuheir in the face once more, and see his pretty little mug crack beneath the onslaught of his fists. The absolute violence of his desires was foreign, and somewhat startling, yet he could not deny that a significant part of his soul seemed to wish for nothing more than to unleash his fury upon the older boy.
He inhaled. The fire of anger quelled somewhat, abated by his conscious mind, he was not a beast nor a monster.
“Yeah, let’s see if we can get you some help,” His voice was as soft as he could make it, a hint of care upon the words as he provided her uninjured hand a reciprocal squeeze, although given the fact that she was currently in the process of bursting blood vessels in the extremity, it was somewhat unlikely that she’d even be able to feel it.
Before he would turn to walk with the girl toward the tent, the glare he would shoot at Zuheir and his bird was cold, cruel and hateful, “Got what you came for?” He spat on the ground, the gesture both crude and rude.
Typically, he would storm off in such situations, but given that he was in the company of a lady, he was forced to resign his frustrated footsteps to an angered gait. Probably slightly too quick to be comfortable. Not that he noticed.
Aurora’s teasing of the tall American did not go unnoticed by Nicholas as they walked off, and the boy snickered in response, the tone of the laugh surprisingly cruel, “I don’t think he’d be able to tell the difference between his reflection and a pile of shite. You know, with them looking the same and all.”
He squeezed her uninjured hand once more.
