2021, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 1 fin

Hurriedly, a shield went up to protect herself from Galton. No hurt occured thanks to it, but the spell's wind would keep her heavy on her toes nonetheless. She grumbled—this match was bound to be a slow and repetitive one—until a hand went for the back of her head. Blindfold now wrenched off, courtesy of Aida, Phaedra blinked as her eyes adjusted to the light. It was nice to know that she had her back, even without being asked. “Thank you.” Now, where were they?

Finally just finally the fog cleared up and Alan was glad to see that his spell had been successful. Galton was now drenched in water and probably inflammable for a few rounds. Or at least that was what Alan would hope for. "Anytime Gal," he responded as he puffed up slightly. It helped out a lot actually being able to see properly again; see both Aida and Phaedra. It was good to know that Galton was also holding up well, he hadn't seem bothered much by the fog, it seemed to have just affected him and... Phaedra? He wasn't sure entirely but that no longer mattered, for now.

Neither Galton nor he had been under attack this time, it seemed that both Ravenclaws would play the long game, waiting for them to show weakness and play on the defense for the most part. It was a little weird because Alan was aware this would drag the duel out for a while and they all just might get tired of it, but not Alan, he would fight until he dropped or the other team admitted defeat. There was really no telling who had the upper hand, it was much too soon for that. He would look over to Tiger for a second who, while in Willow's arms, was eagerly watching the exchange of spells and looking at him somewhat soothed the Gryffindor's nerves who would now be able to properly focus on the matter at hand once more as he faced the eagles, determined to win.

Poor Phaedra seemed to get the brunt of the spell casting this round. Alan and Galton both targeted the girl, and it went flawlessly for them. Especially for Galton. Not only did his Wind Jinx send a jolt into Phaedra, it split and hit Aida out of nowhere. Both of them left winded and recovering for the next round. As if that wasn't enough Alan absolutely blasted her with water leaving her soaked and with water dripping down her face which would make her accuracy a nightmare.

The Ravenclaws didn't have as much luck. While Phaedra's spell did go off just fine, once again encasing Alan and Aida in a thick fog, it didn't do any damage leaving the two Gryffindor's standing just fine. Aida attempted to cast the Tickling Charm before the fog took over, but Galton easily dodged it. Leaving him to be tickled another day. Or possibly just later. Who knew. The duel could still go either way, and Willow and Tiger were on the edge of their seats.

Spectator Thread

Edit: Fixed the debuff for the Fog Charm, I forgot to account for Phaedra's 10 points in ArcPower and forgot the accuracy debuff.

No one would tickle Galton! No one! Grubby little magic hands caused a great amount of fear in the small grubby boy. He couldn't quite fathom who's hands they were. Of course, they didn't actually belong to anyone, nor were they really hands, but the thought of who they could belong to, or who the magical fingers were modeled after sent a small shiver through Galton's spine. How else could one burst out with such laughter and pain? It had to be tiny little magic hands scrapping away at you.

But this was no time to dwell on the possibility of being tickled, just rejoice to be untickled. He had a duel to focus on. His eyes narrowed in on what he could see of the other stage half. He was still ready, fog or not.

Action: Feeling (thankfully) untickled

Clearly, she had underestimated Alan. Perhaps all that time concealed had allowed him to ponder his next action, because the slightest dwindling of fog had him gunning for her with a fury. It was nothing new, of course, this strategic double-teaming she'd often experienced in duels, but that didn't make it any less annoying. Fine. If that's how it was going to be—then back into the fog for you, Captain. “Nebulus.”

As Phaedra's spell encompassed him, she made a miserable effort in avoiding theirs. The first to connect felt like a point-blank firehose stream to the face, a successful retry of the spell Alan had attempted earlier. If it weren't for the pain and Galton's weaker, but frightenly accurate Ventus veering off to assist it, Phaedra would have laughed at the absurdity of now half the piste standing fully drenched in water.

But this was no summertime water balloon mischief. The force of the two elemental spells combined sent her stumbling backwards, and with a grimace, she exhaled forcefully through her nose to rid of the uncomfortable sensation of water pooling in her sinuses. Dammit, that one hurt. If the Ravenclaws didn't deal any hurt of their own and quick, they were bound to find themselves in a world of trouble.

“I'm... I'm sorry. I can't seem to get my head on straight,” Phaedra admitted through grit teeth, rubbing her nose. It was tempting to blame her lackluster performance on a mysterious dice entity who hated her and her house, but that would beg the question: were her good days just a matter of luck as well? Beneath the intimidating exterior, was there really no personal skill at all that she could fully rely on?

Her track record certainly indicated not. But whether the result of rotten luck or by her own hand, she was embarassing herself right now. Dwelling on superstition wouldn't change that. All there was left was to try harder, but first, how was her partner holding up? “Are you alright?” she asked, although the question was much better suited for herself than for anyone else on this stage. Phaedra pretended not to notice.

Her ears stung with humiliation, but this was far from over.

The Gryffindor boy would groan in frustration, not loud enough to be audible except for maybe his team mate. He could not believe that his vision would once again be taken away from him, rendering him to narrowing his eyes in an attempt to see past the fog. But he would not let this get to his head, he had been fine before with the fog and thus he would manage once more. They had a good round and the fifth year had actually managed to land a hit this time, it was an incredibly feeling of success when the water spell splashed at the Ravenclaw. At least he would somehow affect her vision as well, he would see it as payback for the fog charm that plagued him once more.

Galton too had hit her and he would watch her stumble back just ever so slightly. He would feel bad for a moment, but knew there was no place for those feelings until the duel was over. Both teams would fight for victory and so it was natural for them to hurt each other in good spirit, without actually seeking to cause permanent harm. It was a sport, it was fun and Alan would do his best to not let his empathy get ahead of himself.

Some could wonder if Galton had something out to get Phaedra specifically, if they had some history that made this vendetta so apparent in the duel. It seemed harder for Phaedra to dodge his spells, being hit more often than not by him and this round wasn't an exception. His Knockback Jinx went for both Phaedra and Aida. Luckily Aida was able to dodge out of the way, but Phaedra was hit back just a bit.

Phaedra and Aida attempted to return the favor to Galton, both spells aimed at him. Phaedra's Pressurized Water Charm missed the already soaked boy ever so slightly. Galton seemed to sense Aida's Knockback Jinx and was able to dodge it effortlessly, leaving him... still soaked, but not more soaked and also hurt.

Alan was dealing with the fog that he kept being surrounded with. Which was unfortunate for Tiger, not being able to see his dad in action. Luckily he casted the Weather-Modifying Counter Charm and the fog dissipated at the end of the round,

Spectator Thread

The Gryffindor was excited, very much so as he watched the fog disappear with the cast of his spell. He wouldn't be trapped within this spell so easily once more, it had been far too annoying last time to not deal with it this time, right away. Galton would hit one of his two targets, more importantly he would hit Phaedra who seemed rather beat up at the point. Alan would feel bad for her, but he understood this sport was all in good nature and that she would understand that they were targeting her because she seemed like the greater threat. "Phaedra looks like she is barely standing on her feet now, we nearly got her, mate," he called out toward Galton in a rather cheerful voice, though he tried to keep his voice low enough to not be heard by the other house. "Also you're amazing, it's like you were a seer when you dodged that one!" Perhaps it had been a stroke of luck or just incredible insight in their opponents, but the younger boy had evaded before the spell had even gotten near him. It was impressive, really.

He would like to be confident in their abilities, wanted to believe they would excel in this trial and so he would push forward, readying himself for the action that was yet to come. He knew they could do this, both of them seemed like they were impossible to hit, almost like an ever so elusive bunny running away and sidestepping the fox on the hunt. He would not celebrate too early, knowing they were still in danger and that one mistake could tip the scale, so he would try to focus on what was important in the moment. They would have to defeat their opponents before they could catch up to them.

Galton knew he was amazing, but now was not the time for his mind to bog itself down with prideful thoughts. He knew that all their progress could go awry with one poor cast or one small misstep. There were so many factors that one needed to win over that Galton would never say he was on the up mid-duel. All he could reply to his teammates compliment was a small smile, only breaking his vision on his opponents for a fraction of a second.
