2021, Stage 1 Hufflepuff vs Slytherin: Match 6

Ileen wasn't exactly happy about the duel partner switch. She and Alexander had been a great team. She trusted him blindly while she and Hanako on the other hand always ended up in some banter. Fun but not a bullet proof basis for dueling.
Stepping onto the stage, the brown haired girl looked at the smaller boy and smirked at him. "Now it's the time to prove that you can do more than just modeling." She couldn't help but tease him. "I promise, I will fill out a review afterwards." A chuckle escaped her and she shook her head. Time to concentrate and focus. If she screwed it up she would totally blame Hanako

[font=PT Sans]The universe absolutely loved him. Pairing him up with the girl that stole his best friend. Brilliant. Gone were his plans of ignoring her all year. Out of all the people he could’ve been paired up, why her. Even Opeila would’ve been an easier partner to have. Opeila! Hanako disliked her, fullstop. But Ileen? A constant struggle. On one hand, he enjoyed their bickering sort of relationship. On the other, whydidsheneedtogetherslimyhandsonhispercival. And Hanako didn’t plan to untangle that ball of confusion. That took way too much energy. But for the sake of the duel, he’ll just have to momentarily erase any memories of Ileen that was linked to Percival. ‘Remember, she secretly has a crush on me. Yeup. Just a silly one-sided crush. Poor girl.’, he told himself in his head, already feeling the snarkiness getting to his head.

“ Now it's the time to proof that you can do more than just modeling.”

“Same here~” he enthusiastically smiled, “ Eager to see how well you do with spells other than diffindo. Tell me, are they just as bad or-~?”

Hanako knows damn well that Ileen was more than a capable duelist. In all honesty, he should be the one eager to prove his worth to the team. But he has a Masters in Bullshizzing Your Confidence, and what better time to use it than now? [/font]

Lucia was teaching herself how to breathe.

Well, not that she didn't already know how to breathe, of course - breathing was a pretty useful skill to have, all things considered - but she was finding it rather hard to do properly at the moment. Lucia couldn't help feeling like too much was riding on the next few... however long the match ended up taking. It depended how well-matched the pairs were. Well, the odds were on Lucia's side, right? She'd won two out of her three matches so far... but then again, the one which she'd lost had been against Slytherin, and she was about to face them again. Plus, she now had a new partner, and although Earl certainly seemed capable enough, she still missed the friendship which she'd built up with Logan over the past year. She just hoped they'd still actually talk to each other now that they didn't have to practise together.

Well, she would just have to make it a first for her and beat Slytherin so Hufflepuff would have a chance at winning the championship this year. It was her first match of the year, and her new partner's first match full stop, and they would just have to win - there was no other option.

Speaking of her new partner...

Lucia glanced over at Earl, sincerely hoping he wasn't panicking as much as she was attempting not to. Maybe it was the hair that made him look like a marshmallow, or his pygmy puff who'd gotten on suprisingly well with River, or his undisputable optimism, but Lucia felt a little like he was her protage - someone to take under her wing. Not that Lucia had wings. Lucia wished she had wings. That'd be so-

Their names were called, and Lucia suddenly realised it was time. She took a deep breath - again - and stood, making her way over to the stage with nothing other than a quiet "Good luck..." in the younger Hufflepuff's direction. It was time to begin.

It seemed that the pair of Slytherin duellists, though seemingly at odds at the start of the match, decided to work together for this first round. Both spells flying from their side of the stage struck home, the young Hufflepuff duelist Earl taking the full force of Hanako's Flipendo, though Ileen's Ventus was more of a glancing blow. Perhaps she was distracted by the spell flying towards her from the corner of her eye to aim true, as Lucia's nearly perfectly aimed Obscuro found its mark. For most duelists, the feeling of the blindfold wrapping around their eyes was probably a familiar one. Thomas could sympathize.

"They should ban that stupid spell," he grumbled, mostly to himself. Thomas had developed a special hatred in his heart for the blindfolding charm, perhaps spending half of his duels last year in the dark was the cause. Bemused, he remembered the time a different Hufflepuff hit him with a particularly good Obscuro, and he spent a good few rounds stumbling around like an idiot trying to pry the thing off his face, before finally ripping it off just in time to get knocked out. Good times... NOT!

"Looks like the Slytherins are off to an explosive start! Gray has been taken completely unaware, and the snakes pressed their advantage," he called out to the crowd, flashing anyone he recognized a corny grin. It was still anyone's duel, of course, but the Slytherins had a nearly flawless opening move, and who knew where that momentum could take them.

The last round was highly amusing. First, one of the Hufflepuff’s didn’t do anything. And they so happen to be the one they targeted earlier Earl Grey. Bless, Hanako’s good looks. When he came to this duel, he was mildly unnerved and fascinated that his opponents were so good-looking. But alas, it seemed like the 2nd year Hufflepuff was unable to hit such a handsome face like Hana’s. He was about to open his big mouth and comment about it. Taunting was such a fun way to communicate with his opponents. However, something else grabbed his attention before he could say anything.

Ileen was hit by a blinding fold spell. Although she could not see at all at the moment, she could very well hear Hana’s laughing. “ HAHAHA- OOhhhhh how lovely. Absolutely lovely. Lovely!~“ he quickly complimented the caster with glee Lucia Fox before turning back to his partner. “You know what, this is a good look on you. Might want to pick a better time for this though~. I can’t have a partner that can’t even see.”

Did the spell affect someone's hearing as well? He hoped not. How would Knight tell Hana was mocking her. That'll just ruin the fun.

Lucia's blindfolding charm hit perfectly, but she stumbled for a moment when she realised that her opponents had both gone for Earl. And they'd both hit. That wasn't so good.

Meanwhile, Lucia appeared to be recieving compliements. "Um." The Hufflepuff has no idea what to say when your opponent said you'd done well. This was a world away from what had happened with @Rose Moon, but for some reason it just made Lucia uncomfortable. "You're wel-" She was cut off by a shout from the crowd. Recognising @Cassandra Ironwoods' nickname for her, she gave the crowd a limp wave and half-smile, not taking her eyes off her opponents. "They do that a lot," Lucia murmured to @Earl Gray beside her, who didn't appear to have done anything. Maybe he was overwhelmed by his first match. "The nicknames." Still, though, her friend's encouragement was helpful, and made Lucia stand just that little bit taller on the stage.

Ileen gave her partner a stern look, blushing slightly as he commented on her embarrassing performance from their last encounter.. "Well, at least I did something and didn’t hope for the earth to crawl out of the hole by themself." Shaking her head she eyed her opponents. She wanted to win and thus she would do everything to support Hanako, but a small part of her hoped for him to get hit by a tickling charm. She would love to see him laugh tears.
That thought made her smirk and she inhaled to focus. She had won most of her past duels but she also knew it was due to luck and not only skill. It could be the other way around soon enough. As soon as Thomas Baines gave them the sign to start, she made a quick movement, targeting the younger student with her favorite spell.

Especially to save some dignity she hoped she would do better than last time she had casted something in front of the sassy Slytherin. But it was like she was trying too hard. Her spell was not as powerful as normal and only barely hit the other - Hanako on the other hand landed a full hit. Happy with the outcome she turned to him. “Hey, you actually can do magic!”
Her voice was actually warm and there was no mocking in it - however she should have paid attention instead of praising Hanako. Her spell had just found it’s mark and she hadn’t even finished her sentence as a sudden darkness blocked her vision. Crap. Not again.
