Quidditch Fall 2021 Slytherin v Ravenclaw

Why is it always raining?, Jorah wondered as his wiggled his butt against his broom, feeling an uncomfortable dampness. Jorah's mind left his wet crack and focused on the cracks within his team. Aly had showed up so late that by the time she was airborne, they had missed their first play. Ding-Ding... Ding-Ding, rang the bell of shame inside Jorah's head.

Joining the ringing, an obnoxious Dong! clamored celebrating Slytherin's goal. Noooo! And again! Dong! This is Tyr-ible! Aly!..Defense!

Taking advantage of his distraction, Alexx charged straight toward Jorah. Luckily he noticed the attack in time to barrel roll away to safety. "Not today Satan!" Jorah hollered back at Alexx. Flying towards Dan, Jorah met up with his fellow beater, Gabriella. Together they slammed their bats against iron, targeting the Slytherin seeker. That slippery snake could dodge one bludger, but not two. SMACK! Jorah's bludger smashed into the Irish lad, but miraculously Dan managed to stay on his broom. Smiling smugly, Dan had the audacity to retort, "That all you got, Jorah?!" An inferno swelled within Jorah, fueling a barbarian rage. "You Barefoot, Bastard!" The insult was tampered by Gabriella's simultaneous "Nicely played, Palmer." Jorah shot his teammate a glare. "Gabby, stop flirting with the competition, we have a game to win." With that Jorah sped off.

Doing as strategized.

Damn. She missed. Her first game back wasn't starting off so strong if she had bother missed the mark and now had to take a penalty lap.

The thing was, Alexx liked feeling useful, and she could settle for a penalty lap if she was out here doing real damage. But if she both missed and failed at her attempted blatch? There was honestly nothing more embarrassing than that.

She approached the side of the field and began taking her lap in shame, keeping her head down and her eyes averted from any players or crowd members.

It wasn't long before Sylvain found himself amidst the thickest part of the chaos that quidditch offered. Chaos he'd spent the better part of his summer preparing himself for. "GOOD JOB CECILY!" he shouted across the field to his daring, now lapping, captain. The way he saw it, a penalty lap was just a chance to flaunt bragging rights to the crowd and if used the boasting would probably reinforce the team spirit after having made such a frightening display of skill and bravado. After all, unseating Erin was no easy task. Sylvain did not envy Cecily so much as he respected her for trying.

"Aly, we need you in position or they're going to keep scoring on us!" Motivation for some was the reminder that they were still needed. That they were being counted on. Aly was no exception to the rule, but she was late in taking off. She looked shell-shocked, or freshly awoken from a coma. Not the best start, though if he could, Syl would start to blame himself first. Perhaps if he had... No. There was no room for doubt right now, he needed to stay focused on keeping track of Jorah. He'd seen the eagle knocked loose from his broom enough times to know that a critical blow could come at any moment. There was no use in getting ahead of himself.

As Gabby and Jorah's bludgers hurdled toward Dan, Sylvain followed closely behind the pair, the chaser crossing his fingers to grant them luck. When Jorah's aim struck true Syl would pump his fist and let whatever passed for a deep "HOOHOO," in his book loose from his chest to celebrate. In doing so nearly missed the opportunity to warn Jorah of oncoming danger however. "J-LOOK OUT MAN!" Syl cried as Alexx made a beeline for the beater. Luckily enough it seemed Jorah had seen her just in time and skirted out of the way to avoid landing on Syl's broom. Sylvain of course was ready to catch him but the longer he could fly unaccompanied the longer the game would go on.
Action: As strategized
Calming Presence- An aura of calm. Allies (Team Ravenclaw) gain a 10% chance to auto-hit their chosen target. This does not stack.

Briefly mentioning/interacting with @Jorah Moussa, @Lavinia Cloven, and the other Ravenclaw and Slytherin Quidditch players
Aly had been later than she'd thought; she blinked as, seemingly, immediately after her arrival, her fellow Ravenclaw teammates- and their opponents in the vibrant emerald green of Slytherin House- began to fly around in differing patterns of organized chaos. Normally, the brunette third-year loved this kind of chaotic, yet beautiful, scattering of plays that a Quidditch match brought about; today, however, she was certainly unprepared for it- and unprepared for the movement she had apparently been supposed to do with Lavinia, and so she missed it entirely.

Feeling the judging eyes of Jorah, one of the Beaters, on her, and seeing Lavinia huff confusedly without Aly there to execute a Pincer motion by her side, Aly winced in shame. Next time, there would be no pre-match naps, no matter how exhausted she was. Okay, Salinger, get it together- you've let them down enough already- you can do this!

Gathering all her rogue thoughts and stray emotions and shoving them deep into the backmost, darkest crevasse of her brain, so that they would not get in the way of the calculating, intense reflexes that Quidditch required, Aly shook her curly head to clear it. Then she tried her best to catch Lavinia's eye, though she wasn't sure if the older girl could see her through the rain, and gave a half-wave as cheerfully as possible in these conditions. "I'm sorry about missing that, Lavinia!" she shouted, hoping that the Chaser could hear her. "I'll do better next time..."

Then Aly turned back to the game, gripping her broomstick more tightly than she had been before. The Slytherins were talking amongst themselves as they flew past, but Aly tried to not let their chatter distract her from what she had to do next...

Emma watched as her teammates took to the sky as she clutched onto her broom. The whistle blew, and they were off. Quidditch was such a fast-paced sport, but at least from the ground, she could see the two teams battling head to head. It wasn't going to be long before she started looking for the snitch herself.

Eyes darting back and forth between the quaffle and chasers, the Ravenclaw watched the Slytherin chaser scoop it up and score twenty easy points. However, was nothing to be mad about after watching a bludger collide with the opposing seeker. She was cheering as loud as she could, clapping and bouncing up and down on the bench. It was nice to see their efforts pay off, but much to her twisted demise, the seeker was still standing...

All she could do was cheer and smile.

Once again, the quaffle seemed to be left largely forgotten. While Tyranni had maintained control over it for the first portion of the game, her attention had been demanded elsewhere in order to aid her captain. This left it open and free for the taking, something that Aly seemed more than keen to do. One after another, Aly sped uncontested to snatch the tossed quaffle from the air, stepping into the role of a chaser for an uncharacteristic and rare speed across the pitch towards the Slytherin hoops. These, too, had been left unguarded.

"Ten points for Ravenclaw!"

Let it not be said that practice in the other roles is has no merit. Had she been unskilled at throwing, Aly might have found even an open net a hassle.

"Another ten points for Ravenclaw! The game has been tied up!"

As it was, she was able to dump the quaffle through consecutively on three occasions, seeming unbothered by whatever was going on elsewhere on the pitch.

"And that's another ten points for Ravenclaw, and the eagles take the lead!"

Aly wouldn't be the only player in the skies for long, however. Both Alexx and Cecily were speeding as quickly as they were able around the perimeter of the pitch to complete their respective penalties, vying to return to the action post haste. And elsewhere, Sylvain and Koko were both dutifully following in the shadow of their respective seekers while Maggie sped to return her parcel (Erin) back to her own broom. While not glamorous in any sense, it was these supportive roles that were so essential to surviving a match and their efforts were most praised in those clutch moments when they came through for the save.

With the burst of aggression in the opening of the game, a lull would have to hit at some point. This was that moment. With Erin having been dismounted and Dan having caught wind of the snitch, the snakes were in as much of an advantageous position as they were vulnerable. If they could hold out for the snitch game, they might just be able to swipe victory before the eagle's talons could sink a hold on them.

While Ravenclaw's fire seemed to spike to new heights, blue clad players falling into the next phase of their offensive play, Slytherin reverted to a more defensive approach. No Slytherin, beater or chaser, went on the hunt. With Dan an obvious target, Cassandra flew in to his defence just as Gabriella socked a bludger to fly careening towards him. It wouldn't find its target, however. Cassandra would draw the trajectory of the incoming bludger away from the boy, dodging it expertly to avoid impact herself.

Unfortunately, she wasn't quite quick enough to avoid Lavinia's plans for her. Bodies colliding in a sickening thud, the upperclassman proved the more adept, knocking the Slytherin beater clear from her broom. With Koko's attention focused on securing Dan's safety shoudl he fall, there was nobody remaining to break her fall. Shouts of Arresto momentum! would sound from a staff member below and Cassandra would be lowered safely to the Quidditch pitch bed, eliminated from the game the moment her feet touched the sodden grass.

With Cassandra out of the way, that left Dan vulnerable. Jorah wasn't about to leave him a moment to breath. Securing a free bludger, he cracked it with expert precision towards the barefooted seeker, iron whistling through rain and gusts of wind alike to seek its target. Dan had felt that bite once already, and would feel it again as a loud CRACK echoed the stands. Dan's broom would practically explode beneath him, sending him careening towards the pitch. Fortunately, Koko would be there waiting in the wings to catch and pull him onto her broom, but there was no question that he would not be returning to his own.

Ravenclaw's preoccupation with their seeker meant that Slytherin could take advantage of the lull to return their star beater to a better position. Forced to ride with Maggie after an early dismount at the hands of Cecily, the two sped off to retrieve Erin's broom. Often, this could be a precarious moment. Two players to a broom generally made for a tempting target, but they would find their path uninhibited and Erin would be free to speed off on her own trusty faithful in full independence and ready to rejoin the fray.

For once, Slytherin's seeker seemed to be in a good zone. Head in the game and bent on the win, Dan had kept his eyes peeled and caught sight of the snitch fairly early into the game. And he wasn't playing games. Pretence of attempting to avoid notice out the window, he chased openly after the ball, going so far as to engage with Tyranni for a little extra boost. Unfortunately, he was not quite on track at the moment of release. What was more, the snitch had taken a sudden turn. Nowhere close, his hands would sweep nothing but air as the snitch evaded him. Perhaps this might have worked in his favour, however. Ravenclaw's seeker, River, still struggled to spot the snitch despite Dan's hell-bent pursuit and her moment of respite as the Slytherin team gathered themselves.

Erin would return to her broom, agitated and restless the seemingly lengthy flight. It was odd that nobody attempted to bludger her while she shared Maggie's broom. "Quick-quick-quick" Erin complained, urging the girl to move faster before something else went wrong.

She would quickly recover her broom, thankfully not broken by Jorah's assault. She needed to get back into the sky. She needed to hit the people and hit the things! She would bear witness to Dan's silver arrow being shattered by that Ravenclaw nerd. When did the nerds become jocks?Dan would fall, he would be saved by the same girl that saved Erin several times in the past.

That was the reason she needed to take flight. To protect the Dan. It was unlikely he would survive this next round. Not when he has seen the snitch, not when he is in a vulnerable position - one where he is sharing a broom with Koko. She silently wondered if it would be for the best to let Dan down. To concentrate on their more threatening offensive line. They had a second string - in both roles. Perhaps she should take Dan out herself-- no bad plan, don't do that Erin. No, focus on the nerd.

It seemed as if Aurora wanted to use Winnie as her own personal punching bag, the way she kept gripping her hand and then hitting her. "Ouch! Rori, be careful..." She didn't want her hand injured before she even got a chance to play! She needed something to catch and carry with.

When she saw that broom getting smashed to pieces she winced, but she also couldn't help but raise a fist in excitement. "YES! GET THEM!" She called out to her teammates, so proud of her fellow Eagles and excited by the display of violence, which was definitely not a red flag or anything. Things were starting to look up after all!

Quidditch Fall 2021 Slytherin v Ravenclaw
Avery reached out to continue talking to the other first year who had joined. Besides the two of them, the one in the air name Miss Maggie was also new. Flash would endeavor to stay polite to them all, despite the fact that all children spoke with voice ever so slightly too loud. He was certain he had not been that loud when he was their age. Then again... his sister had put in considerable effort to make sure he behaved himself in public. It almost made sense to him, as much as he resented the way his sister and mother raised him. How could anyone concentrate with all this screaming?

When Avery gave a childish apology, Flash scoffed, followed by a genuine smile. "Of course. That's a good attitude."

As the match went on, Avery continued to cheer enthusiastically, accepting the binoculars. Flash's mind couldn't help but wander to Thomas again, how very contrasting it was. Flash saw him again recently, after he had not returned to school at the star of the year. It was probably better that he didn't think about all of... that. He was benched, but he needed to still have his head in the game. The last thing he needed was to be called on the field while lost in thought.

Luckily, Avery was plenty prepared to keep him occupied with further questions. "Not impossible. It's fairly common to-- yes right there." Flash would point to grab Avery's attention as Tyranni grabbed Dan and slung him in the direction of his desire. There was a tense moment in the crowd as everyone realized that Dan was already going for a grab. Flash would sigh when it appeared like the risky move didn't pay off. "That's an alley-oop. Another wix uses momentum to try and get the Seeker on the snitch as quickly as possible. It's not easy to pull off, but almost everyone at least tries it."

Aloud noise would draw attention to the field as Cash was knocked from their broom and started falling to the ground. A terrible loss, but at least Percival wouldn't be on the bench anymore. Another loud reaction would bellow from the gathered crowdas Dan, even more of a target now than ever, got absolutely nuked by the Ravenclaw star Beater. Flash would have to flinch and look away briefly, the loud crack having a devastating broken wood sound to it. Looking back, it seemed Miss Koko had managed to catch Dan, but his broom had been shattered. What horrible force. Of course, the broom could be fixed by magic, but it meant he couldn't solo fly anymore. That Beater was no joke.

"Well... you might get to fly today after all." Flash said to Avery, trying to be light-hearted despite feeling a bit tense. "I hope you'll forgive me for hoping you don't."

Dancelos seemed to feel the exact same way as he did. Of course, they were both eager to play, despite struggling with their nerves, but neither would wish that any of the first string players be taken out of the game. Fortunately, Flash didn't take it to heart, not that Avery thought he would. Now, really, was little Avery's head getting a bit big, thinking he was that important of a figure on the bench?

By the looks of it, Percival Rainwood was surely not contributing much to their merry banter and observations, or to cheering on their teammates. His cold "And who are you?" in response to Avery's friendly greeting caught the small boy slightly off guard. First, he didn't expect anyone to respond so coldly. It felt like 热脸贴冷屁股 (sticking his warm cheek to a cold buttock). Second, it had almost been two months since they had been dormmates, and Rainwood didn't even know who he was? He scrunched up his face in confusion. How could @Hanako Tone ever want to bunk with this guy? And how could Rainwood possibly want to bunk with a creepy, strange guy like Tone, who had a tapeworm for a pet and was so hard to read -- like, was that boy actually friendly or mean or what! Then, he remembered the older boy mentioning that everyone in the dorm liked dark and chilly vibes, so maybe like attracted like?

But he had to be a better person, and at least try again? He shook off his confusion, and gave the boy another smile, if a little sheepish. "I'm Avery Chen, a first-year and Henry's bunkmate. I know you're bunking with Hana. Do you guys get along well?" Maybe it would help him sort out how he felt about Tone if he could hear Tone's own bunkmate talk about the boy.

He gazed into the binoculars as Flash pointed out the move called an alley-oop. "Oh wow," he would say, but then gasp as several other things happened at once, all gut-wrenching and did nothing to steel his nerves. All of a sudden, the scoreboard was 30-20, Cash was out, and Dan's broom was broken. Despite Cash's tiger-parent attitude as a flying coach, he had a lot of respect for them and would definitely admit that much of what he was able to accomplish on a broom was thanks to Cash. "Will Cash be okay?" he asked Flash after his heart skipped a beat and the dangers of quidditch became all too real right before his eyes, and he gave the binoculars back to Flash.

Indeed, at the rate things were going right now, Avery might actually fly today after all. He gulped slightly at Flash's observation. "Yeah, here's to hoping I don't need to that badly, but I'll be prepared if I do!" He clenched his small fists and willed the team to succeed and for himself to gather his mental strength and determination.
