“What are you people doing right now? I can’t see or hear but I-“

Something landed on her dress. It was a similar feeling when she did a snowball fight back home minus the coldness. “HEY WHAT IS THIS?” Her finger tried to touch the mysterious object. One sniff, two sniffs, the unknown thing smelled like icing, sweet and appetizing. Time for the taste test. As soon as it touched her tongue, something about it tickled her taste buds. The tastiness of what seemed to be a food was extraordinary. Every flavour balanced each other, creating such a beautiful unexpected experience. “Hmm, delicious, is this a cupcake?” A good day, indeed. Aurora was vibing with everything because of the delicious little part of the cake. Then an unknown hand shoved more cupcakes into her mouth. Am I a queen now? getting fed by a servant? “Oh, more! Thank You!” She would say it excitedly as she munched the food. Such a short attention span the girl has. A flavorful edible material was enough to make her forget about the concern of Winnie and Nicholas’ safety.

Life is good, all is well. Until the food was gone. Vanished from the face of the earth. There were only two possibilities that could happen. One, the cupcake was way smaller than she anticipated or two, the faceless servant was hungry and ate it. How dare. “H-hey! Where’s the food?” And just like that, her source of happiness was gone, forever. As if it was not enough to make her poor heart break into pieces, someone tried to steal the alluring lavender lock from her scalp. “Ouch! Rude!” One longing stare was all it took, she desperately wanted to undo the previous sentence. “O-oh” A friendly greeting was what the Ravenclaw hoped for. But no, it was a full on lecture. If it were anybody else, Aurora would hate every second of it. Probably wouldn’t last a second before the devil water would hydrate their eyes. She despised anything uncontrollable and unexplainable. Even something as simple as the rose blush that appeared alongside the heat on her cheek whenever Nicholas is around. Back to the lecture, nothing could be processed by her brain even though the earmuff was not covering her ears anymore. All she did was blink a couple times like an ultimate idiot. After all, the fact that the boy noticed her existence was still surreal, let alone touching her hair even though it was quite painful. It required some time to let everything sink in. Nicholas McCowan was really there beside her, and it was not a silly dream. “H-hi”

He doesn’t want me getting hurt. She took a mental note to write it down in her diary later. This type of situation was not the kind she anticipated. Does he actually care? Her stomach was acting weird all of the sudden. It was like a couple of hyperactive fishes swam around and made her feel ‘gulu gulu’ inside. Never once has it happened with anybody else. How could the grumpy face of him be able to move her brain down to her knee? “Ah- that’s- uh- new- thankyou” Awkwardly, re-positioned her Hufflepuff scarf around her neck as she tried to read the expression on the boy’s face. “A-are you okay? You look mad, I’m sorry.” Is he mad because I am here? Or is it just his regular face? A mystery waiting to be solved.

She stepped in to the wild storm as the realisation of the shady guy’s presence near her. “WHY ARE YOU HERE? O-OH-“ Eyebrows scrunched, she was now mad, even though the thrill from the little interaction with the flannel boy remained there. An index finger pointed right in front of the red headed boy’s face. “DID YOU DO THIS,-“ Gesturing to the mess on her dress, then to the overall mess on the great hall, “-AND THESE?” He was a bad news from the start, of course she would cause a chaos on his own girlfriend’s party, what an arse. But there was something worse than him. “W-winnie” Even with her prevention to blow up and attack people couldn’t safe her friend’s day. The purest soul in the entire universe was scarred, not because of Matt. An abhorrent atom sized devil was the cause. Aurora could feel her pain and frustration. Without thinking, she ran towards her dorm mate with the intention to cheer her up. Her hand would pat her back lightly. “Winnie it’s- it’s fine, your cupcakes are delicious! I could eat them every day and will never get bored! The day is still young! We could do something, just us and some people you trust! Even if you want to invite that jerk-“ not the perfect time to throw an insult, “-your boyfriend, it’s fine! Let’s just go, okay? I will bring all of your presents to the dorm, okay?”

Sad and angry. Aurora wasn’t the type to judge people’s actions. Not on their faces, of course. But he went too far, and this was Winnie Harper he was messing with. She turned to the little blonde creature. “And as for you, ghastly little cockroach, how dare you throw away food, you ungrateful piece of poo! I may not know your name, and I don’t need to know, I bet it’s as ugly as your behaviour, but I never forget a face. You’ll regret everything you stupid gremlin. Mark my words.” Putting her focus back to her distraught friend, she would whisper in her ear, “Let’s go Winnie.” Then she shouted the name of someone that popped out first “N-nick, can you help with the presents, please?” It is not Aurora Ranvier if she did not do something to teach a lesson or two to the annoying short boy. Swiftly pointed out her wand and said, “Immobulus” before gathering Winnie’s stuff.

It was incredibly hard being this sexy, but Pride somehow managed. Once Drakos was given what he deserved, Aurora's hurty juice to the eyes, there was not much that could diminish the Slytherin's day. The sounds of his suffering, even if it drew a small, concerned crowd, were like a symphony to his ears. A smug expression had eclipsed his pale features as a girl, some sort of angry midget, he would expect to see similar at some sort of side-show. The cupcake projectile did him no harm, his dress shirt and belted slacks remained unmarred as he palmed the cupcake and curled his long, manicured fingers around the base and clasped the paper wrapper covered confectionary.

Admittedly he wanted to taste the sweet strawberry adorned treat himself, but he knew better. It was a family rule he always abided by -- you only eat what you know for certain is safe. There was no way of knowing for certain what was in those cupcakes, who had accessed them and moreover who was involved in their construction. He was well-aware of the duplicity of the house elves, about their dangerous belief that they were doing right by the Professors and the youths by imbuing their food with a forgetfulness concoction.

Little did he know, that was about to come to a screeching halt as were several other concerns that had plagued the school for years as aspects of the story came to a close.

He eyed the little girl with a gremlin face (Juniper) and made a tsk'ing noise with his tongue. "You should not waste food," he replied unfussed as he made an offering to Aurora the technicolored goddess of senseless screaming. He peeled back the wrapping and as she started to sing an off-tune rendition of Happy Birthday to Winnie he would insert the edge of the cupcake. Yes, he did so nicely, if Aurora died a sugar death from a piece of cupcake in her lung, he did the wizarding world a favor perhaps. The only person that might miss her that he knew of was Winnie, but her memory was rather short these days, she would quickly forget her sorrows and remember only him. Alas, probably no murder today.

Here comes the airplane.

"Expelliarmus"

Aurelia cast Expelliarmus at Mathias, his (well, Winnie's) pepper spray needed to go elsewhere. Or so Aurelia thought. Nothing happened to the hurt juice, but rather the girl's wand would slip from her hand and bounce across the hard wooden floor to a place that would hopefully keep the both of them out of trouble.

For whatever reason some unknown had decided to storm in, complain and then throw a cupcake at Aurora. None of the aforementioned made any sense to Pride. The cupcake being insufficient, the need to hurl the allegedly inadequate, free confectionary at Satan herself seemed senseless. Not that he argued with the later choice even if it was nonsensical and questionable. The issue he had taken with this scenario was the fact that Cody (not Mathias) made Winnie cry. At least that was his head cannon as the girl was reduced to tears. Party-goers had decided for whatever reason that they were happier throwing and insulting the food she made rather than eat it. He let out a sigh, whatever cupcake remained was consumed by the colorful murder witch.

Apparently his good deed would not go unnoticed as Nicholas for whatever reason had decided to approach him. Fine, be pissed that he was actually playing nice for once, that would learn him real good. Not that the jealous dolt was wrong, Winnie needed him more than the blindfolded princess. “Thanks. I suppose not all of us are blessed with mothers that choose outfits for us.” A call back at his weak earlier insult, Nick's alleged lack of mother making the prod all the more pitiful.

"Thankfully you have houseleves in lieu of a mother's love," he shrugged as he attempted to slap the cupcake wrapper with whatever stubborn frosting, cake and possibly weird girl slobber or lipstick that remained onto McCowan's hand "to manage your laundry." A disarming smirk as the boy lifted Aurora's blinders.
Attempting to smash the rest of Aurora's cupcake (well wrapper) into Nick's hand. If he gets to Mathias prior to him feeding Aurora any and succeeds in knocking the cupcake from his hand, I guess nothing happens.
Regardless of his success, the boy's hands were filthy. He could only hope that he did not contract something from being so close to Aurora. He would take a cloth handkerchief from his pocket, embossed on the corner was the symbol of their order but it was not readily visible the way in which he held it.

Nick seemed to have a thing for Aurora, at least that was how he saw it. If he was going to have a fit over the weird girl being treated like a sugar-rush princess in her self-administered sensory deprivation gear. Yes, her kinks were concerning but those were about to be Nick's problem also. So in a moment of devilish asshattery he would leave Nicholas on a single dying note. "Most romantic thing I have seen all day was this guy trying to feed you a crushed cupcake," Mathias commented leaving Nick to hold the bag as Aurora condemned Mathias for crimes he did not commit.

Have fun sweetie.

The rants of a little girl complaining would leave whatever romantic encounter Nick might unfavorably enjoy brief. Perhaps a passionate embrace would be ruined with a shin kick, odd how violence might do the boy some favors in this case. The girl was not the brightest crayon in the box in spite of her hair. Not that she even stayed to subdue her fresh lover or more likely victim, as she went over to Winnie.

Yes, the red-faced, tear-streaked Winnie. Far from the pretty girl he almost always saw without fail.

"Gee Winnie, I'm sorry I ruined your birthday! Why don't you come to mine, and I'll make sure to let you ruin it."

For the love of Merlin -- This was that what was making her cry. Christ sakes, he walked past the circus sideshow and attempted to give Winnie a hug while Aurora verbally berated the underclassman. Why didn't HE get pepper sprayed in the face? "Being the only guest at the kindergartener's birthday would be a one-hundred percent increase from what he had last year," he murmured loud enough for her assailant to hear but for once getting a jab in was not his intention or remote care.

The truth was, the boy had no relevance beyond the attention he could garner with his senseless acts. They had no value, no worth and Mathias did not have the want or the inclination to even bother.

Cody attempted to prod at him with his wand.
Winnie, feel free to roll for my passive evasion attempts from the wand at disadvantage. If you don't avoid the hug, he would not let go but would rather attempt to shift with you.
Jack Warren of course would come upon to the worst possible scene. Winnie crying, Mathias attempting or already in the process of attempting to console her. Levi rightfully dying on the floor and a pair of miscreants running off after they made everything worse. He actually owned clothes with buttons, an impressive feat considering who one was considering. Pride did not look Warren's way, he was too busy looking down towards Harper. She was going to probably ruin a perfectly good shirt, he should care a bit more about that sort of thing he reminded himself. No, he would worry about that later. "I am sorry for causing a scene," he sighed as he tried to hug her tight.

Message delivered, there was no voice less the one in Santario Martin's head. While Vladimir prided himself on knowing everything, in truth he knew little of the attentions the blue-eyed girl had drawn. That other eyes were on her, that his likely fleeting involvement in the Slytherin would derail the prospect of developing something meaningful, something worthwhile, something true. Comparatively he did not feel that he had much to offer beyond disappointment that would come from so many sources.

At times he felt like he was a christmas gift from someone's aunt. Wrapped pretty and nice with a big bow, the promise of something fabulous inside coupled with the merriment of the season. Only once they pull the ribbon and tear away the wrapping paper to find a box from a designer brand store. Again, it validates the feelings from before, perhaps even enhances them as they lift the lid and throw away the tissue paper to discover some box store discounted sweater not in their size. There was nothing good, nothing of true value when they go to the heart of things and worst than that, they still try. They try to make it fit but it rips, an errant string pulls away an entire sleeve.

Yes, Vladimir was a damaged ugly christmas sweater in a designer box.

He had a lot going for him, tall, handsome, well-bred, wealthy and read. The wrapping was quite lovely, also the box. However he was also cursed, he had family dynamics that would make any saine girl's toes curl. He was just an ugly sweater even the freaks that have ugly sweater parties did not want so it was left on sale. He was dying. Before she knew it, a sleeve was just going to fall off when she tried to make it fit anyways.

Of course, I will go with you. If you thought I would say no you are not as smart as you thought you were... but honest enough not to look.
We also need to talk about something... or rather a different V being back... in my common room. It should be impossible, but there he was. I have more to tell, we need to talk.
You have my permission to contact me anyway you deem fit.

"I am surprised you accepted,
but I was hoping for an actual dance."

He was not looking to buy, romance or prod information from the girl. To date he had not had a successful date to a dance and it was on his bucket list. Opeila Seilun, now Winters being a regrettable mistake in spite of being self-aware enough to know that he was about to be targeted, the fact that he used the situation to validate his isolationist stance with his then friends Marion and Victor.

He did not know about Victor, not the Victor that Santario knew at least. Yet there were sightings before the start of the year. In the Owlery Vladimir claimed that he was attacked, rendered unconscious by a boy that could barely carry his own books and who was long dead. Then there was the summer camp [spoiler]. Everything was managed, this much he was foolishly certain.

If you wish to talk, send me word.
I don't recommend allowing yourself
to be needlessly seen with me.

The consequence of such could be dire, a truth he knew well.
I am not here, ignore me in the moderation. I am just talking in Santario's head since she went here after opening the invitation gift.

To his dismay, after a few moments of peace, all hell began to break loose. Food was thrown, words were shouted and even pepper spray was introduced to the fray. It was that close that Santario had to drag him back to avoid the irritable gasses that came with it. He took a few steps backwards and looked at San with a small nod of thanks. But before his eyes could go away from her something sticking out of her hair caught his eye. A beautiful black hairpin, covered in a style that looked like a black orchid shine before him. Gray could only stand there for a few seconds and look at it with a slight smile, secretly happy that she took his gift to heart. He didn't know it meant that much to her...

Finally snapping his attention away, he looked back to the chaos around him and snarled. Not even at a party could the students keep their barbaric attitudes away, how pitiful. The prefect slowly shrugged his body and calmly cleared his throat, almost in preparation for something big as the more than familiar student Jack Warren shouted from across the hall. Percival rolled his eyes to the attempt, disappointed that he'd even try without some position of power. At least for his sake, he'd be able to help him figure out what the hell was going on

"Enoughhhhhhh!

Shouted the boy with an almighty roar, loud enough for the sound to echo around the lengthy great hall

"Who do you all think you are coming in here to ruin a party, huh? have a look at yourselves and think long and hard about how immature all of you are being. This kind of behavior at a ball doesn't surprise me, but when it's at someones birthday party it seriously makes you all selfish pricks doesn't it. Now, what I suggest is you all calm down, enjoy the fucking food and respect the birthday girl. Before I start handing out detentions quick time, yea?"

Gray took a deep breath and coldly looked at everyone's faces individually, coming to a stop on the only ginger lad in the room "You on the other hand Matt have already earned yourself detention for that party trick. However, since it's Winnie's party we will talk later about your misdeeds..." growled the boy as he finally looked back to San and shook his head "No one ever learns do they?"

“This is only a foretaste of what is to come, and only the shadow of what is going to be.”

Everything really did devolve, and rather quickly, she had successfully pulled Percival back and returned his resolute nod. She, however, would miss what he had noticed as things continued to spiral, with Winnie showing off her famous pterodactyl screech about people ruining her birthday. Santario should have done more, and she would have done more if a very tantalizing distraction had not pulled her head out of the situation at hand. Anyone paying attention to her could notice that she seemed to have pulled back inside of herself as if very deep in thought.

"I am surprised you accepted,
but I was hoping for an actual dance."

She knew he was in her head, but it didn’t stop her from turning around to look for him. Knowing full well how he had reacted when he walked her back to the common room after the Blossom ball last year that he wouldn’t be there. He was trying to minimize the damage against her, yet wouldn’t that thin façade be broken when they showed up to the Autumn Ball together? San wouldn’t argue it, though, even if she didn’t care. San wasn’t sure if Vlad would hear the replies she would give in her head, but she would nonetheless. If she got no answer, she would seek him out.

“I did not plan on talking shop at the dance.
My word is my bond, Vladimir.
I warn you my track record for dances
is about just as good as yours.”

Her hand moved up and subconsciously touched the spots just under her clavicle, mars to her perfect skin hidden under the fabric of her dress, where the dual stingers of the mosp had pierced her skin. Santario Martin was a realist. She knew whatever this was, was not destined to last. She had seen the black running deep through his veins, he had told her he would die, and she believed him. Even more, reason to take advantage while there was still time, right? If he was indeed a casualty in this war, he had no reason to hide information from her anymore… Or at least that’s the angle she wanted to play. However, there were underlying feelings there. In May, she had told him that she didn’t want him to die, and she was not lying, nor had it changed. Santario always seemed to look past what others saw and choose to see what was beneath instead. The things others were willing to overlook because they took everyone else’s words instead of having half a brain to find out for themselves.

If you wish to talk, send me word.
I don't recommend allowing yourself
to be needlessly seen with me.

She shook her head slightly and rolled her eyes, anything that easily could be explained away by the number of things happening around her as the Prefect remained silent to the casual observer. Could he even hear her? It didn’t matter; she kept trying anyway because if he could listen to her response, it was easier than sending another owl to him. She had already told him she wanted to talk to him, and face to face was far more preferred regardless of the convenience of his gift. She couldn’t try to read him like this, not that she thought she really could in the first place.

“Give me a time and a place.
Meeting on your terms will be easier.
I’ll make it work.”

It wouldn’t be hard to make it work either. If it was in the evening and anyone in Slytherin questioned her, she could claim she was going on a patrol, and if it happened to be another Prefect, San would say she already had a partner for the night. Not even a lie, technically, as she would be on patrol until she met with her intended partner. If he told her it was now or never, she’d find a reason to leave even if she had to lie.

Even Jack Warren’s bellow had not been enough to drag her out of her own head. He was across the hall, but Percival was literally standing right next to her when he roared. She physically jumped, wide-eyed, heart pounding in her throat as she stared up at him while he spoke. She watched him as he looked at everyone before finally turning his face back to her, and while she had managed to mainly compose herself, there would still be signs. “I guess not.” She murmured as her eyes slid from his face and back to the people around them, wondering if they would listen.
All words right aligned are mental and cannot be heard by anyone but Vladimir.

Detention? Totally worth it... "Not a problem Gray," Mathis replied (link me). If anything detention would help his cause or at least that was what he told himself as to wave off the concept of consequences for his actions. Percival would yell at the party-goers but he knew full well that it would be useless, they would stop acting like chimpanzees when they were out of poop to throw.

With Juniper and Cody gone, likely in search of fresh poop, the only piece of crap left was Levi. The source of so much drama. Making all that noise, drawing all that attention. He had gained himself quite the following of concerned young women. "Get Levi to the medical wing," out of here "and everything else goes away." Mathias announced talking into the top of Harper's head presuming that he is hugging her and getting a perfectly good outfit ruined.

The commotion was primarily caused by two people who were now gone. The catalyst was Levi's infernal screaming. Extract the boy like a cancerous lesion and the wake of a natural disaster could be peace. Winnie's cotton candy hued shrew of a friend said something about getting her out of here. Taking the gifts and finding air to breathe in the tower. It could be a good day, a fine birthday still he decided with an uncharacteristic weight in his gut.

"You should go, I have something to do," he claimed. "Don't worry about the mess," he advised. He did not have any more of that strawberry juice and honestly he did not trust her to drink only a serving. Forgetting as much as she had was unintentional and while the young sociopath was not feeling remorseful over getting everything that he wanted on a silver platter, for whatever reason he did not want her to forget him a second time. "I'll tell the house elves about how I ruined your birthday, how Levi got hurt, how traumatized everyone was," he sighed. "They can bring you something sweet, not as good as what you made" probably "of course. But they have a way of making it seem as if nothing had ever happened." A literal statement he actually meant.

If he ever had hold of her he would let her go. Tear and snot soaked or completely dry, he would clean himself off with the kerchief housed in his pocket. He let his emotions make his choices rather than his ambitious mind and it resulted in disaster, regret and a modicum of fear.

There was a conversation ongoing in the Slytherin's head. A strange itch, almost a tickle. A contrast the the drama and the confectionary projectiles her peers were being bombarded with. Vladimir was a serious creature in contrast to even his cousin, often someone found near the heart of drama more obviously of his making.

A favored place might be the Trophy Room.

He suggested a room on the third floor that was rarely occupied. The small, well kept room housed the awards Hogwarts has earned over the years, varied commendations dating back to antiquity. There was little reason for most to go there, it was not the sort of place many chose to loiter but there was also the option for escape. Yes, he was interested but he was ever cautious. Taking someone to a place too remote, such as the forbidden forest, a forgotten corner of the Black Lake or a quiet place on the grounds was only so good as the murder that was intended.

I can be there...

He had to think for a moment, consider the correct 'when' because privacy was a commodity here in Hogwarts.

Just as curfew closes, Friday.

Why then? Simple, less foot traffic, but her foot traffic would be expected. The only likely interruption, the intrusion of another Prefect and the minor deterrent being the risk of detention which Vladimir truly did not fear. Friday preferable, a late hour still he did not want the potential dalliance to intrude on his or her studies. While incredibly suspicious, the Ravenclaw was a model student.

It was often indicated that social grace suggested that arriving reasonably late to a party was fashionable. In the name of aligning herself to her new article, this was something that Evelynn had considered when initially preparing her arrival to this particular gathering. Habit had won out, however, and she had instead arrived reasonably early. This would turn out to work well in her favour. As it happened, the relative absence of a significant number of guests allowed her the opportunity to really relish in the precious initial encounters.

Harper's had been quite endearing. The way she had lit up with a glow to match the strawberry threaded so carefully across her dress rivaled the most treasured of collectible dolls. But it was the verbal response that had held the greater significance. Before we face off in the field, she had said, which could only mean the girl had joined the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. By what little Evelynn knew of this girl, she would have assumed that an empty jest; she seemed far too feminine and frail to find any interest in actively participating in what could so often be a rather violent ordeal. Interesting. Evelynn looked forward to seeing her fly.

Thoughts of Quidditch would persist with the introduction to the birthday girl's evident beau. If @Mathias Pride had been thrilled to take part in and be present for Harper's day of significance, apparently he had only done so at a partial level of commitment. As soon as Evelynn had turned her attention to him, it was as though a force drew his gaze and a switch flicked his interest. In fact, the energy and exuberance with which he'd taken to shake her hand caught her entirely off guard. Brows flared in surprise, but she caught herself before saying anything and politely endured the greeting. Still, Evelynn was slight, hands dextrous rather than meaty and she had to attempt subtlety when lowering it to clasp with the other, fingers massaging to sooth the fallout of the sudden assault.

Fortunately for her, she doubted he was likely to notice given how quickly he had retreated in self-realized embarrassment and his attention directed him elsewhere. A courteously amused smile lingered in his direction for a moment before she, too, withdrew, more than a little intrigue by that introduction. Massive fan. Never had it occurred to her that anyone might consider themselves such. She'd spent so long trailing Towers' impossibly impressive shadow to stop for a moment to realize her own efforts might not go unnoticed. She had a fan. She had a fan. That was…more than a little unnerving. Games this year would have a higher stake, it seemed.

But there was time to ponder that later. But now, Harper had become more than a little overcome with the multitude of arrivals flocking to give their sentiments and gifts. No doubt Evelynn's own gift would go forgotten for a time, but when the moment Harper did decide to open it, she would pull back the pink tissue to reveal a handbag within. Structured and large, it boasted a playfully colourful design of strawberries on a neutral field. Although technically a design from a couple years prior, oversized purses were the latest in fashion for this fall and this bag was back in vogue. Not to mention, the design was only too perfect for its intended. Evelynn had gotten rather fortunate.

She'd thought she might have to track down a knock-off designer--there was no way she'd have been able to justify or afford a designed back for a barely-acquaintance. However, Lady Luck had smiled upon her when her mother had announced finding a dilapidated model at a local thrift store back home. A quick little bit of magical repair, cleaning and colour correcting later; and it was as good as new. And what better way to make an impression than with a personalized, quality item. Hopefully, the birthday girl actually liked it.

Quietly standing back, Evelynn fell in line next to Martin to observe the social gathering grow with the same analytical curiosity she might have done with some sort of petri dish in a lab. @Willow Anderson was next to arrive, seemingly bringing with her all the summer sun that had recently taken its leave of the Highlands. Her outfit was something Evelynn might have thought to have been a bit of an eyesore at one point, but the eccentricity would have felt right at home on the runway amidst the bright colours and bold patterns this year. The knitted pillow she gifted Harper was quite quaint and Evelynn offered a smile and dip of her head in return greeting as the renewed prefect joined them, "I'm sure we will have plenty of opportunities with class and patrols this year."

Next, @Leonard Oaksworth. Although Evelynn didn't personally know him, she certainly knew of him given that he was one of @Marshal Mozor's closest mates. And the moment he arrived on scene, she understood why. From his lips spilled a most peculiar verse of poetry, spoken without shame despite its amateurish feel and the growing audience. Given by Harper's comment on his clear practicing, evidently this wasn't a one-off. A smirk pulled at Evelynn's lips at its conclusion. Charming and succinct, she couldn't help but consider that perhaps there actually had been some merit to one of the questions she'd received for her advice column. Harper with her strawberries did seem to attract a lot of bees. When the boy had finished, he spouted a generalized greeting that didn't seem directed to any one individual in particular. Although past time that introduction be made, Evelynn didn't take him up on it.

Next on scene was @Nicholas McCowan, arriving in exactly the sort of dishevelled state to which Evelynn had grown accustomed. It was such a shame. His features could allow him to look quite sharp. He had a wit to match as well, but one that seemed only to emerge under situations of defiance and challenge. If his looks weren't enough of an eye-sore, his behaviour was. Apparently turning it up a notch, he sauntered in as though confident to crash the party. An obvious underhanded comment launched at the hostess, and Evelynn had to commend her grace of reception. Not falling for his ploy, Harper instead built it up as a compliment. Although…a moment later, Evelynn had to wonder if that had actually been a perfectly navigated slight, or if she really was just that entirely obliviously naïve and hadn't seen his cheek for what it was. Even if she had missed it, however, Pride certainly hadn't. Her friend chose to address McCowan with passive aggressive disdain, slinging veiled insults with the dexterity of a politician in the making. Evelynn clucked her tongue against the back of her teeth at the impropriety of it all.

Thankfully, the situation wouldn't seem to escalate, and joy was injected forcefully back into the air with the boisterous arrival of who Evelynn could only assume to be a very close friend of Harper (@Aurora Ranvier). Winnieberry had been the nickname used. Which, admittedly, seemed rather apt. What struck Evelynn most significantly about the girl were the gifts she'd brought. Each of them seemed to have been hand-crafted, every moment injected with care and adoration. The stars in particular stood out, especially as each apparently contained a personalized sentiment when opened. Even Evelynn had to acknowledge that was a very thoughtful gift. She wouldn't have minded something similar from her mother. To be able to read her mother's writing during those times when she most missed home would be heartwarming..

But before she could wander down that train of thought, the girl presented her last gift. Pepper spray. For a split second, Evelynn had half a mind to confiscate it. But she hesitated. Realistically, the pepper spray was less dangerous than a child with a wand. And really, it could prove useful, particularly as no magic would be needed to wield it. In all honesty, it wasn't a terrible idea, even if they did--probably--classify as weapons. So long as they were only used for self-defence… Evelynn would let it slide.

Queue @Levi Drakos. Like a mummer to a ball, he sauntered in with a level of confidence that rivaled the most egoistic among them, his ensemble a garish composition that seemed fashioned to mirror that of Harper's dress. Clearly the two must have been good friends. Or so Evelynn initially thought. The presentation of his gift completely altered that narrative. A sapphire pendant cut into the shape of a heart soon found itself nestled against her sternum. As beautiful as it was, the only thing Evelynn could think was just how inappropriately inexpensive it appeared. This was a gift best saved to be received from a close family member of sweetheart for a sweet sixteen or similarly significant date. Not a platonic friend for an insignificant birthday.

It seemed she wasn't the only one of that mind either. Her gaze flicked at the sound of light tapping to see restless drumming of fingers on a tabletop. Fingers attached to one Mister Pride who soon let loose a breath of air akin to a snorting bull as it sized up the rodeo clown. But he never charged. Instead, he swept up one of his gifts to urge Harper to open it and direct her attention away from what might have been a competing love interest, perhaps. And that's where it seemed the tension would disperse. Drakos took his leave, sweeping his gaze over those near. He seemed to ignore Martin entirely, but for some reason paused momentarily in Evelynn's direction--yes, a brief glance back over her shoulder confirmed there wasn't anyone behind her--with a slimy smile. As though he knew something she didn't and was silently mocking her for it.

Or…perhaps it wasn't. In that moment, it occurred to her his smile actually wasn't so different from the one that Marshal would flash her during those salacious moments where he expected to get a rise out of her. She blinked, brows furrowing as she cast a renewed look of skeptical questioning upon Drakos. Was this his attempt to flirt with her? She'd be left in her state of guarded uncertainty as he settled next to Anderson.

And then hell would break loose with an unexpected tri-pronged attack on the unsuspecting boy. The sudden arrival of Pride would see a foot kicking against Drakos' chair to send it skipping slightly off balance; followed by a cupcake shoved into his gullet as though to condemn him for daring not to try his beloved's excellent baking; and a finale of compressed chemicals into his eyes, courtesy of Ranvier delivery. As Drakos dropped in pain, Evelynn rushed forward. Her initial gut reaction was to berate and subdue the aggressor, but @Santario Martin had taken point on that. Diverting instead to the afflicted, wand drawn, she dropped next to Anderson to assist, wishing dearly that they'd learned some way to conjure water from their wands like a spout. The cup of water Anderson produced would have to do for the moment, knowing it would flush his eyes to help mitigate some of the damage. But also knowing it wouldn't be enough.

"He does need to go to the infirmary," she urged quietly, agreeing whole-heartedly with Martin. "Between the two of us, we should be able to get him there without too much trouble, I should think."

And better to get out now. That attack had been something of a spark, and already she heard various voices incanting spells and cupcakes sailing overhead. It was fortunate there was such a prevalent prefect presence, really; if they didn't nip this in the bud soon, it was likely to descend into complete chaos. Evelynn glanced up in search of her peers to do just that and was met with the view of a familiar face: @Aurelia Notrésvace. The upperclassman had evidently turned a page with her wardrobe choices, having selected to wear fashion glasses to complete her ensemble. In other circumstances, Evelynn--not realizing this was supposed to be a disguise--might have commented positively on the outfit. In the moment, however, only annoyance was felt as the girl attempted to take matters into her own hands despite authoritative presence.

"Put your wand aw--" The scolding was cut off as the spell serendipitously backfired, Aurelia's wand sailing from her own hand. "Notresvace!" she started again. "As noble as your intentions might be, casting outside of class or sanctioned event is still against regulation and subject to possible detention. Leave this to those with the status to do so."

Like @Percival Gray, apparently. He must have slipped in unnoticed during the midst of the commotion. With a measure of level-headed authority, he stepped forward to take grasp of the situation. Under normal circumstances, Evelynn likely wouldn't have left him unattended with such a task, half expecting him to hex the entire student body into submission. Or set his cronies on those who somehow evaded. In this moment, however, Drakos' need for Nurse Brumby took precedence. She would have to trust in the competence of Martin to cover should Gray prove insufficient.

"Come," she urged Drakos, attempting to coax him to stand. Then, shifting her attention to Anderson, nudged her head in the direction of the hall exit to suggest they take their leave while they still reasonably could.

Before they did leave, however, there would be one last thing to do. Smooth steps would carry her to where Pride had retrieved the spray, and again where he had deposited the used third one. All three would be swept into her hands. Confiscated. This was why we can't have nice things. And a look back towards him would stir her stomach uncomfortably. He'd taken a step back, his expression holding something of a diabolically amused smile. It reminded her exactly of one other agent of chaos--Barret--who had similarly exploded in the midst of a revelrous gathering only to bask in the afterglow of the uproar she had caused. That same atmosphere was felt now. Pride was the Hades to her Persephone.

Despite the fact that the birthday girl was on the floor crying, a few guests still deemed it appropriate to cause a scene in the Great Hall. This was Hogwarts, so perhaps they didn't know any better and had become accustomed to the chaos that surrounded them practically on a 24/7 basis.

@Nicholas McCowan would attempt to provide a snarky comment back to Mathias, but it seemed the Slytherin's words were as quick as his evasive attempts. After an erm... Light conversation with Santario Martin, he would quickly zero in on a boy attempting to hand feed the love of his life his enemy turned crush, @Aurora Ranvier. The Gryffindor felt the need to guard his territory and let Mathias know that he was the only one allowed to torment the lavender-haired enigma of a girl.

It seemed that poetic muses had finally whispered into the boy's ear and informed him that his heart song would only beat for the Ravenclaw beauty. She would sing a plea for her saviour and in a flash Nicholas had quickly turned into the pastel sweetheart's brave knight, who would attempt to swat the cupcake out of Mathias' hand. It was too late to save Aurora from eating the entire cupcake, as she had already taken a few bites of it at this point.

SUCCESS
Despite the Slytherin's usual evasive nature, Nick had a pretty straight forward target and was able to smack the cupcake wrapper out of Mathias' hand. Because of this, Matt would not get the opportunity to try and squash the wrapper into the Gryffindor's hand later on. He would still have to deal with the Slytherin's sick burns in the form of what was basically a 'your mama' quip.

Nick wasn't finished with his declaration, however, he would rip the blindfold from the damsel's face, so that the first thing her eyes may lay claim on was his erm... Chiseled features? Well, the boy was 12 so that likely wasn't the case, but Aurora might have still felt a bit light headed from the romance, especially as Matt claimed it was the Gryffindor who had been hand feeding her. Would Aurora believe his false claim? The girl was already quite smitten with her enemy turned crush, so it likely would not take much to convince her.
It seemed like the first year, @Juniper Kelly was quickly trying to explain herself to Winnie before the second year spat a curse out at her. She had tossed a cupcake at an unknown, without know the situation. "He was defending me, he wasn't being a bully. You should think about what you're doing before springing into action." She lectured the girl. As if she were one to talk, she had tried to tackle Mathias not once but twice during the Blossom Ball last spring. She wasn't certain why she was being so harsh when all the girl had really done was thrown a cupcake, but she was always on guard these days, and possessed a fierce protective nature for her boyfriend after he had ended up in the hospital wing for over two weeks. Even a single cupcake turned into a projectile couldn't be trusted. She sighed and shook her head at the girl. "I don't want a cupcake."

She would leave the screeching Ravenclaw (the redhead--erm, the youngest one) in the hands of Nicholas. He could bestow upon the girl whatever fate he deemed necessary, even if she screamed her claims of him being a bully at the boy. She would storm up to the boy and try to take a swing at his shins with her tiny leg.

It was lucky for Nicholas that he was quick on his feet, because he managed to side step Juniper's attempt to kick him. It looked like the kick would have landed hard, and it seemed like the girl had quite a bit of power inside her tiny body.
Well, @Cody Stevenson still insisted on coming up with his sick insults by attempting to invite Winnie... To his birthday party? The young boy definitely wasn't the cause of the Ravenclaw's tears, so he really didn't have anything to be smug about. It was more so out of frustration that the girl had started crying. "I don't need to attend to ruin it, your complete lack of friends ought to do the trick for you." She had calmed down enough to quip.

Perhaps Cody was projecting something onto the taste of the cupcakes when he claimed them to be bland and stale. Perhaps the boy needed to get his head checked. Erm, his tongue, that was. Either way, he would try and drag Juniper out of the room.

Despite his uncharacteristically bout of strength, the 3'11" boy would not manage to drag his friend out of the Great Hall, he would instead walk alone (unless Juniper ignores this roll and decides to let him drag her) but not without attempting to poke Mathias with his wand first.

Despite being hindered by the hold a certain crying Irish girl, Matt would still shift his body away in time, Cody's wand missing his body completely.
As wild as the brightly coloured Ravenclaw, @Aurora Ranvier, could be, she was a fantastic friend. It was unfortunate that her kind heart was often overlooked, but it just made the friendships, the ones she hand crafted so tenderly, that much more special. After being hand fed a sugary sweet cupcake, which she so correctly labeled as delicious, Aurora's knight would rescue her and set her free from the binds of her father's old scarf and earmuffs. The fluttering in her chest would not be caused by the handfed sweets, but instead by a certain plaid-wearing Gryffindor.

It seemed Mathias was in for an ear full or perhaps another fresh dose of the lavender-haired sweetheart's classic pepper spray. It seemed that the fates themselves were on the Slytherin's side, as he would go unharmed as the Ravenclaw zeroed in on a fallen fellow bird.

Peeking up over her shoulder, Winnie would stare at her dorm mate through blurred vision. "W-What? N-No, we can't go to the dorm, not everyone can... G-Go there." Would it not just be the two of them? A quiet birthday sounded nice after the disaster that ended up being her birthday party, but she also wanted Matt and a few others to come with them. Heck, even the plaid wearing guy could come. She sniffled and tried to make a suggestion. "There's an empty classroom on the second floor, we could go there..."

After Aurora took care of a certain short first year that hadn't learned proper manners, that was.

Usually the Ravenclaw's spells hit, but it seemed as if she were a little off her game. Perhaps from being blindfolded for so long? Either way, Cody would step aside as the spell flew passed him. His short stature seemed to be working in his favour.
Of course @Jack Warren would arrive to the scene during possibly one of the worst times, or perhaps one of the best times if he had taken the opportunity to comfort his sobbing pseudo sister. Well, at least he looked handsome in his button-up shirt. He would use his prefect voice to start questioning the party goers, who seemed to forget they were acting up in front of four prefects.

Whether or not the other's noticed, Winnie had. She stared up at her brother from her position on the floor. "J-Jackie... Is... Is that a goat?" Obviously Winnie Harper noticed important things. A memory came to mind, the pair had been a set of toothless kids, Winnie had told Jack about the animals on her farm and he had shown an interest in the goats. A declaration had been made, the two of them obviously had to raise goats together once they had grown older. Was the stuffed goat Jack's way of reminding her of this promise? It definitely tugged on her heart strings, but she wouldn't have time to react before a pair of arms were offering her comfort.
A case had been made when @Aurelia Notrésvace told Winnie the purpose of the spell she had cast. Winnie knew a basic disarming spell, but she didn't know why the wand had been pointed at her boyfriend at the time. It seemed the Gryffindor would not attempt another spell, but instead strike up a conversation with Jack about the cupcakes. She had a good point, they were almost gone, and not even because they had been tasted and enjoyed. She would also fill Jack in on the latest drama, possibly offering him the opportunity to create a connect with Levi later on. They had both been tormented by Matt in some forms. Well, mostly Levi.
Those nearby @Santario Martin were unlikely to notice any paused movements in part thanks to the internal conversation she was having with Vladimir. Luckily it wasn't enough to distract her from the attack Mathias would make on Levi. Meanwhile, @Percival Gray had been dragged into the safety of his dark-haired heroine's arms, Percival would avoid the fog of fiery spray that may as well have been breathed from the mouth of a dragon itself. What did he see when he looked at the sapphire-eyed beauty? Perhaps white roses mingling with beautiful black orchids, if he could manage to gaze at her through his heart shaped irises, that was.

The moment of closeness between the two would not last. It would be soiled by the poor manners of the guests present. Percival would need to step up as a prefect to try and regain some sort of order. He would use a booming voice that seemed to echo throughout the great hall and scold the group of teenagers. Even Winnie had stopped her crying to listen to the boy. Part of her was thankful for the interruption. Perhaps Percival wasn't so terrible after all... Even though he was handing her boyfriend a 'detention slip'.
Despite getting his eyes blasted with a shot of pepper spray, today seemed to be @Levi Drakos' lucky day. Both @Willow Anderson and @Evelynn Decipio were quick to rush to the Gryffindor's side and offer their help to the writhing boy. Evelynn would suggest between the two of them, they would be able to carry Levi to the safety of the hospital wing. It was unfortunate that Winnie would neve receive the opportunity to try out her gift from Aurora, as the Gryffindor prefect was quite the confiscate the pepper spray. A school wide ban might have been more effective given how many bottles of the stuff the Ravenclaw seemed to be in possession of.
Amongst the sea of chaos @Mathias Pride seemed to be faring fine. He had been quite busy during the duration of the party. When the jealousy had reared it's ugly head at the boy and sent him into a passionate fit, he had left Levi writhing on the ground and Aurora with a stomach full of cupcakes. Fortunately for the redhead menace, both of these actions would be seen as helpful by his girlfriend. Despite her initial hesitation, a realization had dawned on her; Mathias must have seen how uncomfortable she was when Levi entered the room, and that was why he had attacked him with pepper spray. Perhaps the no good Gryffindor had even attempted to spike the cupcakes at the center of the table.

"Mattie..." As if the girl would ever reject a hug from him. Perhaps the warmth of Mathias' arms was what the girl had been craving, because her own body stopped shaking when they embraced. With her arms sliding around the boy, she would press her face against his shoulder and weep. His suit would be damp, but thankfully she was wearing waterproof mascara, so he would not have to deal with any black smudges. "N-No, it's not your fault. You were protecting me from Levi. I froze up when he entered." She admitted, her voice wavering. She would spin her own reasoning behind Matt's actions, craft the narrative until it made some inkling of sense in her jumbled, flowery mind; her thoughts taking on their own strange trajectories.

He would say something about the hospital wing, and then he suggested she go with Aurora. When the Ravenclaw realized Mathias had no plans to follow them, she jerked her head backwards so she could stare up at Matt. "What? No... I'm not going anywhere without you." She blurted out so quickly that she surprised even herself. She blinked, her brow furrowing as she listened to him. Hadn't he told her a few weeks prior not to trust food from unknown sources? What if Levi had somehow tainted the food supply? "I don't want anything sweet to eat..." She claimed with a shake of her head. In all honesty the thing she wanted most was another attempt at her birthday. A quiet one where she hadn't invited the entirety of the Great Hall. "Mattie, I just want you by my side." But his warmth was escaping her as he drew back. Her hand would reach forward in an attempt to grasp his hand.

Happy Birthday, Winnie Harper Filled

"The girls tend to get mad when I sneak into their dorms," he joked when she said she was not going anywhere without him. He was not going to war, nor was she moving across the country to a place where he might be able to see her a few times a year if lucky. She was just going back to her dorm, her happy place, at least in comparison to this mess.

Her attachment was both sweet, convenient and troublesome. There was a sense of regret, fleeting of course. A logical mind knew that the heart often lied. Of course there were circumstances that he was unprepared for, yet in his juvenile arrogance he thought that everything was meticulously planned. He should not have pepper sprayed Levi, the high he felt was irrelevant if it was not a part of the bigger plan. It was an impulse, it was a bloody mistake!

Mathias Pride makes no mistakes.

It would be fine, just another bullet point to add to the laundry list of reasons they wanted him to provide. To prove the incongruity, the incompatibility, the inherent risk and the incredible consequence. "Stand up," he would ultimately growl in a low voice in her ear. Stand on her own two feet. "Stop crying," he was still holding her tight but he would feel his grip slacken. He was far from a powerful boy, the sort that needed someone else to open his jars or carry his books. "They will never care," he breathed. Likely the worst birthday gift he could ever give her, but the truth. She saw, she lived and she suffered from the chaos. She was nothing more than a decorative piece, a talking point, at best a tool. "Go back to your dorm, let the girls lie to you and tell you have devastated they are on your behalf and know they did not do anything." Unlike him. Even Jack was strangely passive to her suffering, he delivered a stuffed goat to the tear-soaked girl as a token of what? Affection. Regret. Obligation. "Put yourself together and be better, give them less opportunity in the future and cut them down when you get the chance."

In truth, he was going to hurt her more than any of them ever could.
