The Swift and the Speedy Broom Racing Finished

Simon tried to take in as much as he could about the course. Through the forest there would be plenty of trees to maneuver around, perhaps some magical - maybe some vines and perhaps even some sort of creatures here and there. One never knew what they would find within the grounds of Hogwarts. Then there were other environmental factors, like the weather. The overcast day meant there could be rain approaching, wind, maybe even some hail if they got high enough in the sky. All things that went through his mind in one split second before he turned his focus back to the task at hand.

"Nah, not nervous. Energized,"
he corrected his fellow Hufflepuff to his side. He glanced over his shoulder and gave her a quick wink, hoping to instill some more confidence. "We've got this, Grant. We've got this," he grinned and then gripped the front of his broom. It was a school broom, and perhaps not as fancy or fast as some of the others, but it would work. This was his first race that he was competing in and he was excited.

Within no time at all they were off and through the course he flew, attempting to help lead his team to victory.

The race started, Theo kicked off the ground and leaned forward, enjoying the tickling feeling in his stomach as the broom went faster and faster- faster than most of the others, it was a racing broom after all. Shaking off his worries about Greta, he finally managed to focus on the race, leaning forwards even more, opening his hands and- Wait what?! His hands were opening. His hands were opening. Theo felt himself lose balance on the broom and tried to press his legs together, against the broom as tightly as he could but it was no use.

He could only use his hands to protect his head when he fell off the broomstick and an oddly alike looking boy nearby too. Groaning the young Thunderbird got back to his feet, rubbing his shoulders. "Well thanks for nothing!", he shouted after whoever casted the spell.

Pride comes before the fall. Literally.

Levi wasn’t well prepared for immediate offensive attacks to pierce his racing bubble. He took off fast, gliding through the raceway with his hazel eyes on the prize and hands itching to begin the true battles. And they came, much quicker than the Gryffindor anticipated. He’d not kicked off at full speed, hands clenching the reins, and this would be his only advantage when an attack from a ferocious racer came biting the air. The incantation barely grazed his ears unlike the streak of light which forced his hands open, sending him and another boy (who, may I mention, Levi found incredibly handsome) falling off their brooms and crashing.

From the bottom, the boy blinked hard at the figures in the air, many of which were alongside his attacker in aiming to immediately rid them of the competition. Levi and his handsome peer were only two of the many that fell from mysterious gusts of wind and other inconveniences that cursed all brooms in the air. Blurs and a deep hazy fog contaminated his vision, though the boy would wander and, soon, begin the race once again, newly humble, but newly determined as well.

When the racers took off, Lucinia flew forward with them. Her broom wasn't half as good as the others but she gripped it tightly, swerving into alignment as fast as she could. There was no looking back. She heard nothing but the wind -- and other players -- whipping past her. She took up the rear of the track, watching fly into the passage ahead. It was narrowed but she knew they'd all make it. The surprises they had to worry about were probably further ahead. Adrenaline rushed through her body, making her hands tremble against the broom but the wide grin on Lucky's face showed her true feelings. This wasn't fear, this was a rush!

The little brunette whooped wildly, excitedly as she raced ahead. Players crashed into one another, tumbling down onto the waiting ground. Lucky dodged them as deftly as she could on the rickety broom but kept her gaze straight ahead. She knew she was racing next to someone but couldn't tell who. They weren't passing her up and they weren't aiming a spell her way...so she figured she was safe enough to focus on the Durmstrang team and whatever she had to do in order for them to win. She slid her hand from the broom, reaching behind her as her hand grasped the broom. With mischievous grin, she looked for targets up ahead.

He had crashed twice. Twice too many times. It was not good enough. "Come on Sébastien." He mumbled to himself, "You aren't that pathetic, are you?" Encouragement was not one of Berry's strong suits but he couldn't focus all of his concentration on making himself have more morale. He needed to be realistic. He needed to concentrate on the obstacles up ahead of him.

The race had barely even started but he was sweating heavily. His heart was beating rapidly and his arms felt like they could fall off at any point. Berry shook his head trying to get stray hairs out of his eyes while grabbing a hold of the broom's handle with all of his strength. There was still a chance of his team winning. There was still a chance to prove himself and Sébastien prayed that it would be given to him on a silver platter.

A smug grin curled around his lips as he readied his wand and unleashed a spell; a quite malicious one. No one ever said he would play a fair game in this one. The Durmstrang student would hit and watch as two very alike looking boys began to plummet toward the ground; he hadn't have time to properly remember which school the friend of Greta went to and so wanted to make sure he would hit the mark. However they would not be the only ones hit that round as he could feel himself being pushed back by the knockback jinx of a boy in Hogwarts attire, making the selfish boy sneer. His own uniform was nicely fitted and he was going to leave a fearful impression. The worst about this all was possibly that he felt no remorse in using dirty tactics for a game like this, he knew he was in the right to use those spells as they were legal, so why shouldn't he use the system to his advantage? As such he would lean forward with good pose and move on with the race, victory on his mind.

The race was off! Leaning forward, Serena darted from the start line as fast as possible. She soon felt a wind hit her in the face. Persevering through the gust, she managed to continue down the race track. Her eyes were focused on herself, the upcoming environment and the teammates she had seen around. If anyone needed it, she was ready to catch them. Luckily, they were fine for now. Despite not being her focus, she did notice a rather large fellow fall right off his broom, muttering curses to herself. Serena was not able to save him, they weren't even on the same team but she disliked the fact that he had fallen off his broom this early in the game. Though the cause of the fall was not immediately obvious, she figured something had happened - someone had blatched or done something. The former keeper was not exactly going to just fall off for no reason.

With a few groans, she managed to get through a cavern, entering into the forest. Her hands were getting a little scrapped up as she zipped in and out of the trees, attempting to get out of there. She swallowed, disliking the fact that some of these obstacles were kind of creepy. Most of them seemed to be in the dark, which she disliked, after everything that happened. She was not horribly afraid like she had been four years ago but still, it was not something she felt comfortable in. Zipping in and out, she managed to get through a few obstacles but noticed that some of her comrades were no longer in sight.

The race began and mighty Durmstrang began in a matter fitting of their reputation. One of his teammates unseated some Hogwarts girl. While he was pleased with that, he almost felt bad. Hogwarts had excellent dueling and Quidditch programs, but nothing could come close to Durmstrang's racing team. It was almost unfair to the other racers to be so superior. Almost... His spellwork was lacking and he mentally chided himself before continuing.

Long story short, I survived

Hugh had forgotten how it felt to be on a broom. The wind rushing past the sides of his face instantly brought back memories from the time he was still a keeper for Gryffindor. For a brief second he felt himself drifting back to those times, but from the corner of his eye he saw a first clash of bodies. Xailah was out in the first few moments of the game. Without a second thought, the part-giant made haste and followed along with the main group of racers. If this had been quidditch, he might've turned back and helped her up. But this was a race, whoever would reach that finish line first was going to get the team gold. He had to stick to the plan.

They all zoomed into a cave system at the edges of the forest. Chaos erupted in the narrow passageways. Hugh saw two kids falling from their brooms as another clocked a wall he carefully flew past. In the millisecond he took to watch it occur, his own head hit a low hanging rock. His helmet took most of the blow, but he could feel the edge of his brow beginning to swell. Shaking off the pain with a literal sway of his head, Hugh continued the charge.

That's when it happened. Without warning, his fingers began to slide across the wooden handle of his broom. Desperately grasping for something to hold, Hugh's eyes would widen in surprise. In his own panic, he failed to take a firm hold of the arrow and felt himself losing balance. It was a brief fall, but his body recoiled as it hit the rocky surface of the cave. He rolled one, two, at least three times over before stumbling on his knees and hands to come to a stop. Skid marks burned on his palms as he gritted his teeth in holding back the pain. A low growl would escape his breath as he looked up just in time to see his attacker wink at him. A faint "Ciao!" echoing away from him.

The large boy got back up on his feet, grunting as he clenched his fists. He walked over to his broom lying just a few feet up ahead and picked it up. Calming himself down, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He needed to stay calm and focused. "Deep breaths Hugh, deep breaths."

Okay, maybe this was going to be a little more complex than Jack imagined. But, thankfully, Jack's knockback jinx went off without a hitch! With the smarmiest smile he could muster, the boy turned back to grin at his target. See, Jack had the power of Jorts on his side! The jorts were the reason he only had a couple of scrapes and bruises; anybody with a brain could tell that. Were jorts magical? Some would say yes. It is honestly a mystery among the wizarding population. Sadly, the jorts' magic wasn't enough to stop him from bulldozing directly into a stone wall in the cave, and he knew that there would be a bruise after that one.

At this point, Jack knew what he needed to do. Put his head down and go fast, much like a certain oversized hedgehog with a blue coloration. He did have some pretty cool shoes. That's the only thing Jack knew for sure at this moment in time. Best to just buckle down and get going.
