RPing as iNPC Maksim Aleksandrovich Preobrazhensky.
Dialogue in italics is Russian.
Maksim was a very cautious man, and that certainly didn't change when he was duelling. The mother hen of his friends, he would do anything and everything to keep those he cared about out of harm's way. So naturally, now that he had stepped in front of Irina, Max proceeded to cast a shield charm to protect her from any further damage. Luckily, the shield would not be needed as no one attempted to attack Irina, although the Vipers' queen leered at his wasted action to his face.

"Cheap looking bastard," Maksim scoffed under his breath, rolling his eyes. He would not stoop so low as to participate in the trash talking on the field... at least, not in a language that the other team would understand. Turning to Amaury, Max added with a low laugh, "Favreau! The little snake can speak." He leveled a stone-cold glare at each member of the opposing team, his jaw clenched and his eyes stormy. "Let us pull all their teeth out then, yes? Yes, a good plan indeed. I'm sure it will not be very hard, they do not seem to be clever." he remarked, his tone unnervingly calm, cheery, and upbeat despite his expression. Out of the corner of his eye, he noted that Felix had hit the dark-haired Viper across from him with a fire-making spell, which earned him a nod of respect from the dark-haired Durmstrang student.

The match was beginning to get more exciting with members from both Sarah's team and the duellists from the other school starting to throw spells at one another. Slightly less exciting was the fact that many of these spells, including Sarah's own had missed their targets entirely. The Slytherin let out a huff as the blonde boy on the other team managed to doge her spell though didn't allow herself to lose focus. She had to stay alert - decide what to do next without dwelling on what had just happened.

She winced as the boy she'd been aiming at managed to hit Astrea, cringing at the flames his wand had released and feeling her skin prickle with the heat she knew her teammate would be feeling. It was a pain she'd known before and was eager to avoid in the future. She narrowed her eyes, ones which had darkened to a deep forest instead of the bright emerald they usually were, and considered her next move.

Adonis was successful in moving over it seemed at first but that was until a spell was casted towards him. A spell in which would get in the way of where he was moving as bubbles began to form around him. An entire field of them to be exact. He found it quite annoying and frustrating as he wasn't quite sure which direction to evade to now if a spell was to come hurling at him in the future. It bugged him. Oh well though! It wouldn't stop him from any of his next moves, he would simply prepare himself for whatever came next in this duel as he assumed his stance once again, whether it was to evade, cast a spell, or move.

Felix felt a deep sense of satisfaction watching the girl from the opposing team's clothing spark up before bursting into a dancing flame. Perhaps this would distract the opposing team long enough for them to launch their next attack. His last attack had ended in failure, but it would seem revenge was in his grasp. He couldn't help but peek over at Ret to see if she was watching him, a frown pulling on his lips when he realized the girl was staring over at Maksim. Fine, whatever. It wasn't like he cared or anything. He also didn't care that he was in the line of fire. They would likely try to take him down, it was a predictable move, but sometimes moves were predictable for a reason.

It seemed the Slytherin Queen had earned his title since he was still, rather dramatically, trying to grab the attention of visiting team with pointless taunts. He was tempted to point out that their team had actually managed to hit someone this round, but it wasn't worth it considering a reaction was likely what he wanted. He would quirk a brow at Maksim, finding his comments amusing. Then came that nod of respect, a sign among 'bros' or whatever word of male kinship the boy wanted to use. It was a sign that Felix would return.

Mostly focused on the immediate threat of keeping her place and internally berating herself for the constant non-hits, Astrea categorised in order of importance first her own status, her team's, the opponents, and then finally any miscellaneous banter. If she had been any less used to the juvenile egging on each team's leader put in, perhaps she would have rolled her eyes in disdain for the tacky wand-measuring contest of bravado. As it was, the transfer of gamely taunts was not helping except to perhaps loosen the tongue, both sides on mostly equal ground.

In her judgement, she was just barely too late to dodge a well-cast spell aimed at her, the hems of her robe suddenly bursting into flame with a first-year incantation, hot and unceasing. She stole a brief glance downwards at the licking heat, shifting her stance to minimise her immediate proximity to the scalding feeling creeping around the floor. Less powerful than she had expected from the hard-eyed blonde opposite her but unpleasant nonetheless. Burns were an unsavoury thing to sustain, especially if left unchecked, and yet she was in no position to focus solely upon her current ailment. At the very least, the destructive force was eating away at more fabric rather than direct flesh, greedily consuming the unintentionally offered robe hem. She, who schooled within the pan and jumped into the fire at her feet, was unfortunately quite familiar with the destructive force. Onwards, the duel proceeded.

Ana hadn't the faintest clue what exactly was in the air in this particular flurry of spells and movement. Things seemed to be dramatically failing or spectacularly succeeding, with very little in between. Adonis' Incendio Duo was quite proficient and hit Henrietta despite her best efforts to evade it. He fired off some fire-st-rate spell work, and the odds were in his flame-vor. Sarah cast a quite nice Incendio, truly hot stuff, but as she took aim, a chill would run down her spine or perhaps simply a dissettled feeling would come over her as a result of someone there with a particularly terrible presence. Whatever it was caused her to miss wildly(auto miss), with the spell shooting far from her intended target before fizzling out. Pity, but all's fire in love and war...

Dmitri decided what this situation needed was fog. It may have been strategic or it may have just been for dramatic effect. The fog shot forth from his wand and enveloped several squares near the center of the board. It certainly contributed to a sudden but rather nice change in aesthetic. Ana squinted through the haze to make out the rest of the moves. A Flipendo was Violet's weapon of choice and that turned out to be a good one as the attack successfully left her wand and hit Felix right in the chest.

Astrea was on fire, though not perhaps in the way she might have wished to be. For the third time in a row, she cast Ventus, but for a third time, it was unsuccessful. Likely due to her flame-boyant (hehe pun) situation, Felix was able to dodge her spell without cutting it too close. Ana hoped the other pureblood was alright, she knew fire-sthand what it felt like to be on fire and it wasn't an experience she was yearning to repeat. Still, as fire as Ana knew, the spell would wear off eventually and the girl would be alright, or at least no longer alight.

Henrietta cast the most perfect spell(crit success) Ana had ever seen and time almost seemed to slow as Ana admired it. The Flipendo seemed to dance through the air as if taunting other spells for not being as spectacular as it was, and it was clear that the girl had put every possible ounce of effort into its creation. Perhaps she ought to have saved some of that effort into aiming, since the spell shot wide, in part because of some spectacular agility on Sarah's part. Ana was almost saddened to see such a perfect spell not make contact.

Maksim, perhaps influenced by the beauty of the girl, decided to attempt to heal her. The spell was rather wretched (nat 1 but negated by perfectionist 2) and Ana wondered if it would even leave the wand. Still, it managed to get the job done.

Irina let a Flipendo fly from her wand and Ana marveled at it. It wasn't as spectular as that of her teammate (19 compared to 20) but it was impressive nonetheless. Amaury chose the same spell and it lept to its target without hesitation. Felix opted to change his position rather than cast that round. He likely thought it was for the best given the unpredictable variance of spellwork right then, but it turned out that moving wasn't a safe bet either, as the boy stepped right into the fog that Dmitri had so generously provided.

The other team’s Queen had decided to try and antagonize her and Irina wasn't having any of it. She didn’t want to loose her cool so tried to ignore it and just focus on her own moves. The next one she was going to do was Flipendo on the only person she could hit. Unsurprisingly to Irina it hit the girl. The other Queen went to put smoke in cells rather than actually try and hit a person. For some reason Irina thought that she would return his mocking. “At least I can actually hit someone without smoke in the way.” She said mockingly. Perhaps soon enough he would learn that smack-talking your opponents isn’t how you win.

Sure, the white haired rook in D4 looked lovely with that dark look and white hair, however, not lovely enough for Violet to have any pity for him. Pointing at the boy, she looked at him and performed a wonderful Flipendo that hit him right in the chest. However, her surprise to the success of the spell made her not look ahead and not being able to dodge Irina's attack.

Playing right into their hands, indeed.

The captain of the Viridian Vipers grinned in morbid satisfaction as he watched one of the foreign students walk straight into the fog he conjured out of thin air. It was almost scary how well Dmitri read his opponent's actions even before it happened—in fact, he was more surprised the opposing team isn't forfeiting out of fear.

Good for them. But this was Dmitri's game.

A chuckle would escape his mouth at the other Queen's attempt at a "comeback". "Awww, you tried. But I'll bite."

"I wouldn't expect someone like..." He would gesture vaguely in the girl's direction, the downward curl on the corner of his lip expressing mild disgust "...you to be able to fathom what someone like me is trying to do. In fact, I wouldn't expect you to be aware of exactly what the outcome of this battle is."

Standing straighter where he was, Dmitri twirled his wand in a casual manner. "But here's a hint: the Viridian Vipers never loses while I'm around."

And with that, although he was far from being in line-of-sight with the other team's Queen, he trained his wand straight towards her.

A promise.

A threat.

And if there's one thing that's for sure when it comes to Dmitri, it's that he always delivers.
