The Chinese boy blinked in surprise at the proffered hand, but took it in a firm handshake nonetheless. "Hui Ming, it is rather an honor to make your acquaintance, Miss Decipio."

He has the smallest of frowns upon his face as he said those words, contemplating the name he had just been told. Eve-Lynn the Deceiver? Not a family name most would have chosen, or at least stuck with. Ming had been taught that names were ideals to live up to, aspirations that and hopes of the parents for their children's' lives, manifest. His own name or example, meant "clear-sighted", or "to understand". Ironic all things considered, but he could understand why his parents had named him so. Deceiver, though? What kind of person or family would want to be known for that?

And if the name of this lady had been something for him to chew on, what she said next blew him away.

I imagine you've lived the entirety of your life being told magic wasn't real and denizens of the dark were but a figment of your imagination.

Hui Ming is still a child, prone to fantastical tales brought forth by his imagination. Of course we would not leave our precious heir alone with some unknown 'light person'*

Ming was aware of his jaw dropping from sheer shock. It was only with great effort that he managed to pull himself together, and he doubted that he had managed to recover with much grace. It was a good descriptor of the issues he was having, and frankly how close she had managed to get with her guess was frightening. But then, was it only a guess?

Ming had resigned himself to the idea that he was entering a whole new world, and the rules and norms there might be different. But was this lady actually reading his thoughts and emotions? Was that even possible, or was he going down the path to insanity?

...thrust into a world with values all of its own and rules that seem incomprehensible.

Hui Ming's face snapped up to look at the other girl, his shoulders tensed. Fear coiled around his insides like a snake. His mind, normally so sharp and the source of his pride, now seemed to be both running on overdrive, but also slow and groggy and unresponsive. No way. It was incomprehensible that she can... And yet . . . If someone could read thoughts and emotions, surely there would be some sort of backlash? Could he trust his own thoughts to remain private around lady Decepio? Or...

And stuck in this mindset, the Asian boy completely misunderstood the ensuing invitation of the thirteen-year-old, taking it as a 'polite' demand to accompany her.

"O-of course, Miss Decepio." He was rather proud of how little his voice shook in his own response. "I would be delighted for your company." Ming tilted his head slightly, the jerkiest half-nod, to indicate that he had understood.

A pause, hoping that the older gi-lady - Be careful of your thoughts, Ming! - would take the lead and direct them to wherever she wanted to take them.

"An unrelated question." Hui Ming found himself asking. Immediately, he mentally kicked himself. Why? Why was he asking this? Why would he bring her attention to the fact that he had noticed her name? "Decepio. It is an oddly beautiful family name; unique, even. If you would humor my curiosity...?"

He left the question hanging, a mixture of fear and trepidation rampaging through his insides. Don't think. Don't overthink, Ming! And you will be okay.
*Ming's accidental magic was the manifestation of magical lights, which he called the "light people". He never managed to recreate the effect around people, and of course his parents never believed him about it.

The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

Dunking @Simon Kincaid with @Haley Rose
A warm feeling spread through Cosmo despite the chill water all around, and she smiled at both her friends in pure joy. She met Simon's high five, their hands sending out a crisp clap which echoed across the lake. It was too soon to celebrate though, and Cosmo yelped in shock as she was pulled under the water with Haley. Bubbles rose around both the girls, tickling their skin and bursting on the surface. Cosmo had forgotten how much she loved the water, and when she burst up gulping for air and laughing she wasn't just joyful, she was completely content. Haley climbed up on her back, and Cosmo wrapped her arms behind herself to support her friend.

"Ohh I dunno Simon!" she said between giggles, peering back at Haley flexing, "your girlfriend seems to be doing a pretty good job, I mean you haven't been taken by Herman yet!"

It felt nice to be invited so willingly into their fun, and Cosmo would forever be grateful for how sharing they both were with their time and love. It had taken far too long to meet Simon, but now any fears that he might not like her had completely dissipated. Cosmo grinned mischievously as Haley whispered in her ear, and nodded subtly.

"In three... two... oNE!" Cosmo called out the last part of her sentence, giving Simon the barest warning as she launched Haley and herself onto him. There was such little grace involved in their attack, but the full weight of two growing girls on top of one boy would be effective no matter how it was executed.

Roleplayer's notes:

"If you guys want to get swimming, you can chill in the lake from 6am to 9pm. Hope to see you there!"

It was a hot, summer day. When Samantha saw notices about the lake party like the one mentioned earlier, she thought that she could really use some time soaking herself in the cool water to get her mind off of the scorching heat. After all, school doesn't start until the first of September, so she should really just relax for a bit before she finally get to learn in her new school

Before Samantha looked for the place where this lake party is supposed to be, she first changed into a simple, navy blue bathing suit (she had a feeling that she might need it since it was summer). On top of that, she put on a light gray hoodie that's not too thick enough to make her sweat a waterfall, not too thin to make her feel a bit cold. After putting on the clothes for the event, she packed some essentials in her backpack: her wand, a couple of towels, some extra clothes, sunscreen, a few pieces of paper, her pencil, and an eraser. Once she was set, she went off to look for the venue of the event.

It took a while before Samantha got to the lake, but when she got there, it looks like the most fun place in the world she could be in at the time. There were people swimming and goofing around in the lakeside area. Some others were enjoying snacks in the designated picnic areas. The music was enough to get Samantha in the mood to have some summer fun. 'Looks like wizards do know how to make a blast,' she thought.

Samantha didn't get into the pool yet; she didn't know if any familiar faces would be there (which would be the first three people she met before she got to camp). She decided to just sit down on one side of the "pool area" and took out her drawing materials. She decided that she should try and make some sort of sketch about what she's seeing at that time to compose herself before she got into the pool and meet some new friends.

Perhaps in the nature of innocence was oblivion. Ret had ‘ignorance is bliss’ scrawled across her eyelids, it was combed into her honey-blonde hair, kissed into her pale pink lips, epitomized in her gauche yet elegant way of movement, as though her thrill was tainting her. Naivety had been locked on the horizon, where blue water met blue sky, gliding over the tides of laughter and ripples of dancing water, looking everywhere except in front of her, where there was nothing to see but cool grey shade and viridescent grass. The way the sun twirled along the lake’s surface, teased its bonds and tore its tension to caress the lake floor beneath, was no different than the way it flickered in her eyes, and torched them when rage struck.

It could have passed; oh, the cloud nine they could have sailed, the ‘what ifs’ that would keep her up at night as she flipped through some poorly written romance novel stolen from a bookshelf. Light, tightly curled hair could’ve fallen suavely over her shoulders, not a single strand out of place as the girl’s mouth fell agape and a seraphic apology tumbled from it. She’d lean down, ask if he was okay, possibly share a few giggles that symphonized like the opening of a river into the gentle love of the sea. When Ret would leave, they’d catch each other’s gaze once again, accidentally looking back one final time at the same moment. Ten years later meet again, one engaged and the other suffering, and you know the story from there. However, that page was burned the moment he opened his mouth.

All the translation dictionaries the girl had invested in were back at her cabin, lodged under piles of clothing and textbooks, so technically, Ret had no idea what the platinum-haired boy had said. Nevertheless, tone treated a language barrier as little more than a faint line in the sand; his noxious and vexed outburst had not been lost on the Ilvermorny student, whose right eye twitched as she fell onto the blanket with him, still trapped in his rigid grasp. The transfer of balance had passed, the electricity madly becoming searing rather than reviving. Ret had found her legs twisted beneath her hips, but by the time her soul had caught up with her body, the scar tissue had started to fall into place. Ashen skin would flush in a baneful cocktail as she kicked backward, still close enough to launch should gasoline keep pouring from his lips.

"Are you some kind of mermaid who only just earned human legs? I know I’m pale, but I’m not a ghost; I was sitting right here."

The boy’s icy eyes pricked her, leaving a crimson stream trailing down her cheeks whilst also circling behind them, and the subtle blush creeping upon him was more color than the rest of him had altogether. That was no lie. It was a shame the smirk he was sporting, albeit attractive, was so damn galling, the way it crystallized the further he dragged his barbs along. “I’m sorry, I know how it is my fault you can’t be bothered to go outside,” She hissed, the distinct southern twang still present even when Ret pushed her voice low, to cut into him and see if any blood was behind that ivory skin.

“I woke up today just aching to chat with you,” Ret would sarcastically note, batting her eyelashes as though this boy had occupied her mind beyond the past five minutes as a critter to skitter across her path. Her visage had been building up to a contracted fury, all the sowing seeds of hysteria and derision before wands would be drawn and blinding colors would flash, leaving the white-haired boy perhaps charred. His, on the other hand, seemed to be doing the opposite, coming down from the nefarious climax of their interaction. He’d give her a jaunty wink and put appreciated distance between them, following it with an inquiry that simply had to be dripping in some wounding joke she couldn’t comprehend.

The cocky impertinence ripped the blonde’s last nerve to agonizing shreds, and her right arm was trembling as she reached to draw her wand, prove her point, hold it to his neck as long as it took him to choke over a million breaths, fill a thousand pairs of decrepit lungs. “You’re going to regret that—” Bam. Something stopped Ret from moving further, her harrying remarks suddenly catching on a limb in her throat and cocking her head at him, as though her wrists were pinned and élan vital poured into abysmal, constraining thought. He wasn’t laughing. “Are you being genuine, mister?”

The blonde seemed to be frozen in time and Felix would stare at her in silence, his heart drumming rhythmically against his chest, the pace quickened by his nerves. More words would try to form in his throat, to bubble forth and craft a variety of snark. He was quick to swallow them, to regain control, to remind himself that this wasn’t a Durmstrang girl. Tripping over him as a tactic to create an open conversation is something one of the crafty girls back home would have done. ‘Sunflowers’, her nickname for the time being, likely did not know who Felix was, and what his surname meant among the Swedish wizarding community.

He took in a breath, ready for her the girl to mumble excuses, asking him to forgive her transgression. Or to, at the very least, apologize to him. He watched as her cheeks burned a wonderful shade of crimson. Then, much to his surprise and pure delight, she would bark back a snippety response. His brows raised, and his smirk transformed into a genuine smile.

"I’m not a fan of the sun like you so obviously are, Sunflower." He would say his internal pet name for her aloud. His accent was not that thick. Most Swedes spoke English, but there was a slight drawl that made it seem like the language was a melody. It was a remnant of his traditional tongue, a melodic language that sounded as if it were meant to be sung. Ws and Vs could be interchanged, his ‘e’s drawn out. As soon as the southern girl was out of his lap, he would push himself off of the ground and into a standing position. Well over the five-foot mark, he was tall for his age compared to most of the wizards that attended the Scottish school. Back home in Sweden, however, his height was nothing to bat an eye at. The boy was likely to tower over six feet before his sixteenth birthday had arrived. "Right, I can see from your attitude that you had no plans to speak to me. Are you that much of a daydreamer?" Maybe he should stop before she really did whip out that wand and send him flying directly into that lake. Hey, might have been the only way he’d get into the water. He expected as much when the defensive girl seemed to reach for her wand, and he even took a step back. Dammit, where had he left his wand? It was on the ground, next to his book on duelling. "Regret what? Saving you?" Even if she shot a jinx his way, he wouldn’t regret it. Felix was a smartass. He was used to being on the receiving end of a few hexes.

"Mister...?" The way she spoke was nothing like anything he’d heard before. Her accent sounded as sunny as the land she was born in, and it carried with it a sense of home and comfort that Felix would never quite understand. A lilting tone that, despite her earlier rage, seemed comforting and almost... Gentle. Shit, he liked it, although he would furiously deny as much and likely tease her to make up for it. "Why would I not be genuine? You just tripped, of course I want to know if you’re alright." He was grumpy and quick to fire snark at others, but he wasn’t heartless. His brow quirked as his eyes scanned her face. "And my name is Felix. What’s yours? Unless you prefer I call you ‘Sunflower’." He would waggle his brows at the girl before his features relaxed into another smile. That was twice now, for those counting. The dimples on his cheeks looked perhaps a bit out of place, given his usual stoic demeanour. He would lean over to offer her his hand as both a greeting and anchor so she could pull herself up.

Summer Camp The Lake Party Closed
It was the first summer that he didn't attend string ensemble, but he really couldn't complain. It had been days since he last touched his violin, despite his mother's incessant reminders not go get behind on his practice schedule over the past few weeks at home. This was his first time away from home, and he deserved a little taste of freedom... He heard that the lakeside party was going to be a blast, and decided to check it out. Swimming? By the lake? A party? The young boy had no idea what to expect, but all these words sounded like a good time to him.

He had gone to the equipment room to pick up some items, so he arrived at the lakeside with noodles in arm, a towel, navy swim trunks, and a light gray t-shirt. Upon arriving at the lake, he saw laughing children, some floating in the pool and some munching on food, sunbathers, and everyone mostly having a good time. He was impressed by how well the event was organized. Not sure if he saw any familiar faces, he walked towards the pool just to get his bearings and think about where he might get into the pool to test the waters.

He spotted a young bespectacled girl sitting by the poolside as he walked, finding that she looked rather familiar. His memory clicked, and he realized that the girl was Samantha Foster from the Hogwarts Express. A small grin tugged at his lips, and he approached the girl quietly from behind, hoping that his noodles didn't give him away. He crept up behind the girl, who looked like she was sketching, before leaning down and calling out. "Boo! What are you drawing?"

───Winnie's face was still burning a crimson red from her tumble on top of the poor Durmstrang student, who hadn't responded to her quite yet. Another redhead was quick to approach her and ask if she was okay. With a shake of her head she would respond, "Yes, I'm fine. J-Just a bit embarrassed..." She would offer the girl a small smile. With her accent, she assumed she was also a Durmstrang student. Her dive had been a lot more graceful than Winnie's own. She also seemed very familiar but the Ravenclaw couldn't quite put her finger on it, so she simply offered the girl a sheepish smile.

Her face was back to burning a dark pink hue at Scarlet's comment, an older girl who seemed to know Opeila, and she shook her head. "I'm uncertain if I could reenact that anytime soon... Especially after falling on this poor boy." She gestured towards Arjan and sunk further into the lake water in an attempt to hide, as if the refreshing lake water would wash away their memories of the incident. "U-Um... I'm also from Hogwarts. What is your name? The both of you, I mean. My name is Winnie Harper, it's nice to meet you both." She would reach out of the water and extend one hand each to the fellow redhead. "Sorry if my fall worried you both."

She was uncertain if the two girls had heard her introduction, however. Considering they had quickly gotten into a verbal disagreement about Hogwarts, she would assume they had not. It seemed the girl named Lebedev wasn't fond of the school after they had poisoned the potions at the ball. Oh no, that sounded terrible... Some other boy was soon joining it, and she slowly started to back away from the bickering trio. Whether or not any of them wished to interact with her after their disagreement was finished was up to them. Until such time, she would enjoy the cool lake water and try to forget her embarrassment.

Samantha was lost in thought as she continued sketching the scenery around her. She calmed down a bit once she was almost done with the sketch. She was pretty proud with her work despite it not being some sort of "serious" artwork. It's as if she can hear the beach music just by looking at her drawing. She was about to add the final details to her drawing when...

"Boo!"

Samantha jumped up a bit, dropping her mechanical pencil in the process. She quickly picked it up and tried getting the lead out. Just as she expected, only a short length of the lead came out; she knew that the point was broken.

Samantha turned around to face the person who had surprised her. Then, without even noticing the familiar features of the boy who jumped on her, she started rambling:

"Hey, what's your deal? Don't you have any idea how much I spent on the lead for this pencil? Jeez, next time, try scaring someone else... wait."

As she took a closer look at the boy's face, Samantha suddenly felt like she met this boy before. The bright smile, the carefree attitude, and the somewhat bubbly tone of his voice made her remember someone she sat with in the Hogwarts Express...

"Avery?" she asked him. Samantha smiled, finally relieved to see a familiar face around those parts. "You're... You're here for the lake party? That's great! It sure is hot recently; surely we need to cool ourselves down, right?"

Samantha kept her stuff in her bag and looked up at the boy when he asked her about what she was drawing. Generally speaking, she doesn't share anything about her works when they are work-in-progress. At that time, she wasn't really being serious about drawing the scenery, so she decided to tell Avery what she was up to.

"Oh, that thing?" Samantha asked as she patted her bag, indicating her sketch. "I was just drawing whatever I see. It helps calm me down. Besides, I also don't have anyone to hang out with at the moment, so I needed to do something to kill boredom.

"Anyways, you wanna get in the lake? I think it's time we have some fun."

Avery chuckled as the girl jumped up in a flurry, but he backed away when she started rambling about what his deal was. Oops, seemed like that was a mistake! What was he expecting out of scaring her, anyway? The answer to that, he seriously did not know. He just did things sometimes without really thinking, much to his own demise.

"So sorry, Samantha! I didn't mean to break your lead! Please don't kill me," he apologized with a small laugh, surprised to see this usually shy girl fly into a fit. He didn't doubt that she could beat him up if she set her mind to it, as he was pretty small in stature himself and she actually had a lot of hidden energy.

It was then that she seemed to recognize him, and her face broke into a smile. He was similarly relieved as her countenance changed upon seeing him. "So, I'm assuming I'm not going to get beat up by you?" he joked, "You seemed ready to have a go at me, not that I didn't deserve it!"

The sun shone brightly that day, and he agreed that it was hot for an August day. A light breeze blew by the water, picking up the cool moisture from the lake, making the water seem even more tempting. It definitely would've been a beautiful scene to draw.

"Yeah let go! You can take a noodle if you want one," he said, holding out a green and orange noodle in each hand. "I've been eyeing that diving board on the edge of the pier," he nodded to the spring board a short walking distance away. "Want to give it a try?" He was ready to find a quick way to cool down in this summer heat, and getting in the water seemed like a good way to go. It wasn't often that he got to enjoy himself during summer break, and nothing was stopping him from taking that opportunity now.

Water fun with @Cosmo Keith and @Haley Rose

Ah Herman. Was the Giant Squid even around? Simon had suspicion that he was probably angry at this whole Summer Camp idea and annoyed that he now not only had to share his space with the grindylows and whatever else lived in the Lake, but now he too had to share it with all the students at Hogwarts that decided to come to Summer Camp. Even someone who avoided the sun most of the time like Simon was there so Herman truly wasn't going to get any peace and quiet any time soon.

Speaking of peace and quiet, Simon was thinking how there was very little as Cosmo began shouting but then he quickly caught on that what she was doing was counting down. Counting down to what? Sometimes people counted down when something was about to happen - like a spaceship about to blast off to space or a troop was about to begin an ambush. ...And just as he figured it out, it was too late. The girls were upon him, their bodies colliding and forcing his down under the water. He had just enough time to take in a quick breath of air so he didn't meet his imminent doom that day.

When he came back to the water's surface, he laughed, enjoying the element of surprise. Although, with those two he should have known better. Haley herself was tricky enough and then when you got her with her best friend - it only meant trouble.

"Oh, you two have started it now," Simon said as he moved through the water and to where Cosmo was. She was the closer of the two and therefore became his first target. Picking her up (and able to do so with his dhampir strength) he tossed her back into the water and then turned toward Haley's direction.

"You won't be getting out of this one, love," he said to his girlfriend and went under the water to pick up some speed so that she would meet this same fate. Once he got to her, he grabbed her and tossed her as well.

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)
