When the name spat out was Levi Drakos of all people Mathias could not do anything besides laugh at the small bit of paper. It was as if the universe decided to say F this one guy in particular. He would have happily bribed someone for this very outcome, but fate or perhaps providence had already decided for him. The threads of fate always had been a friend of Pride, now would be no exception.

He would turn the bit of paper around and show the others gathered including Levi the name on the bitty slip. "Uncanny," he exhaled as he folded the paper in half and slid it into his pocket. "A truth this time?" He needed to hear him verbally verify. He was stepping down from the dangerous prospect of dares, not that he could blame him. With a red, raw, stinging leg and a moist face and either a broken heart or a jealous mind, round one had done its worst on the pre-teen. It would be a night that Levi would never forget.

"I can do a truth," one that continued this evening of ruin. "So Levi Drakos, am I a good kisser?" A cheeky smile, he expected a resounding 'no.' Perhaps a rant about it being 'forced' on him. It would do him no favors to try. It would just make him look like a jealous asshole. Something he would accept, tell the world I am a crap kisser. He was willing to burn himself in the fire he started. There was a way for him to win, to make things awkward and to try to turn it around on him. That would take fearsome confidence he was uncertain Levi could muster. If he did, if he could... well, that would be a new sort of fun.

His "girlfriend" Winnie was there. there was the distinct possibility of unreasonable jealousy, pre-teens and their drama after all. This was the point where if Levi said "yes" it might raise the alarm in the Ravenclaw. A sense of jealousy or worse yet curiosity since he had been actively avoiding physical forms of affection. Winnie was his house-elf girlfriend, not his kissy-person. If he said "no" he would look petty, perhaps petulant. Of course he might not be a liar, although there are not many people that become redheads after locking lips with another boy. Did Levi care if he looked a bit petty? No. The point was not the yes or the no, it was proof of the lie. The claim by Pride that they had been dating, that Mathias was in possession of his first kiss. If he felt the need to claim that they never dated, it would just make him look like a cad. he would get all the validation and verification he required. A slightly jealous Winnie might be a fun afternoon. Might.

Whelp he was gonna find out now.

"Dralt the bad boy," Matthias had said. Pericles stared back oddly, lips pressed into an intentionally inexpressive line. The story with the woods was one of his chief regrets, though perhaps not the explicit meal the stranger had hoped to hear. He abruptly lacked an appetite for the half-eaten bag of crisps in his hands.

“Getting all sentimental on me, Dralt?”
Pericles smiled off to the side, the tips of his ears a concerning shade of pink. "Sentimental" was a term designed in the eighteenth century, when the "cultivation of feeling" became "fashionable". Even in modern times around certain circles, like very cool teenagers, or very stuffy purebloods, it was unfashionable to express too much care or emotion. Yet Pericles had been raised in a house which more or less enabled him to wear his heart on his sleeve. Instead of outright denying the fact, or laughing it off like he should have, he gave a tiny shrug of one shoulder. At least Phaedra moved on before things could become awkward.

“Merlin. That probably sounds really stupid. But you know what I mean. Err...unconditional acceptance?” Hearing something so human from the deified upper-classmen was strangely comforting. His stare stilled instead of averting, and the start of a small, genuine smile started up. "That doesn't sound stupid," the pale heir stated softly. “You ever had someone like that? Someone you can sit in a comfortable silence with without feeling the need to fill it? Those are the best kinds of friendships.” At the question, his eyebrows arched, a stretch of silence playing out while he rolled it over. He was quiet by nature; it was when he was around his friends that he liked to talk, though after tonight, he might practice being a mite more introspective instead of filling that sacred silence with speculation and idle inquiries. Finally, he nodded, concluding. "Yes, I think so." “Now don't go off blabbing, Dralt. I've an image to uphold.” He looked genuinely concerned at that, sitting straighter, drawing breath to explain he wouldn't dream of going around acknowledging the existence of Phaedra Stavrou. Then the jest seemed to somehow catch up with him. A cautious, creeping grin grew. Peri preoccupied himself before he could act too chummy, and looking down, began rolling the bag of crisps closed. "I won't," he murmured, summoning up a sliver of impish snark. "If anyone asks, I'll tell them you are an ice queen." His smile suggested he would never.

In a much more amusing move, Phaedra dared Earl to act possessed. Pale hair, dark eyes, an eerie voice. It was all in good fun, sure, though the hair-raising performance still sent goosebumps shivering over Peri's arms. He smirked outright, delighted in the way a horror-movie junkie is when the killer claims their first victim. Never had he seen metamorphism used in such a way. The fun was disrupted when he heard Winnie crying out at Levi for the cruel dare he had apparently posed to Mathias. Frowning, the Ravenclaw shot a look at the older prefect present, the look seeming to say Do we help? How? He had started to stand when he saw tears in the younger eagle's eyes, but then she was putting her lips on both of them, so the debacle must have resolved. The worried frown turned into a disdainful grimace. Even when they weren't actively locking lips, they were going about it. A polite attempt was made to hide it by moving towards a bin, pretending to prioritize throwing away the half-eaten snack. Honestly, how had he made a point of giving the spin-the-bottle games a wide berth, only to still be stuck in a group of underage serial smoochers?

Before Pericles could spend too much time lamenting present company, or contemplating a quiet escape from PDAville, another name wafted into his hands. He read Earl Gray, Dare with a pensive hum. Was it rude to test their gift of metamorphism? Earl didn't seem to mind using it for play.... Peri would err on the side of caution, keeping his dare ambiguous enough to be performed however the dear Puff found fit. "Earl?" A "please" wasn't customary in this game, right? "I dare you to show us your best impersonation of a teacher."

───Realization was a funny thing, with one small piece of information suddenly the dots between little mysteries could connect with ease and a layer of fog could quickly disperse. Unfortunately for Winnie, this time realization hit her like a freight train. Levi and Mathias. They had dated before. They had history, hurt feelings, and broken promises between them.

Underneath the twinkling starlight, Winnie could not find her breath, a sinking feeling in her gut that felt as though she had swallowed a cannonball. She was uncertain what this feeling was, as she had never experienced it before. It was like anxiety but came with a bit of a twist, a desire to shield Matt from the Gryffindor and intercept all interactions between the two. To make it known that Pride now belonged to her and her alone.

... Jealousy? Possession?

“How... How long did you date? All of first year?” She asked, her voice having trouble finding its volume. Had they written each other poetry? She had found a few rough drafts of poems in her journal that she assumed were for Pride, and one dated back to the night after the blossom ball. She couldn’t quite remember putting pen to paper, but the proof was there. Her feelings so profoundly stated upon the parchment, ink-stained from the damn quills wizards insisted on using despite the invention of ballpoint pens. How could she have so aggressively chased a boy who was still healing from his previous relationship? Perhaps she was his rebound?

“I didn’t even know Levi was interested in men. I didn’t know you were too, n-not that I have an issue with that. I think it’s lovely that you can love someone no matter their gender.” Despite Winnie’s overtly traditionally feminine appearance, there was definitely a tomboy hidden within her. She had no issue breaking gender roles. She just also enjoyed wearing pink and there was nothing wrong with that.

She couldn’t blame Levi for still desiring to stay by Mathias’ side. He was such a sweet boy, after all. Gentle and attending, offering words when the fog stole them away from her. She could, however, blame him for desiring what was so obviously her’s now, especially after he had discarded the precious person that was Matt.

“People tend to desire what they can’t have.” It was something she had read underneath her covers with the light of her wand. Romance novels she had stolen from her mother’s collection during winter break. She leaned in to whisper in his ear. “Does he make you feel uncomfortable, Mattie?” Her voice was now one of concern. Yes, like the knights in children’s fairytale books, she would offer the boy her protection. She was strong. She had been in physical fights, trained for Quidditch. She was a force to be reckoned with. She could protect the Slytherin.

It would seem the game wanted to interrupt their heart-to-heart because soon the flame was giving her another name; Pericles Dralt. Truth. She was a little disappointed she didn’t get to give another dare, but... This would do just fine. She would see Pericles standing not too far from her, nearby Earl. She did not know he had witnessed their... drama, or she would be mortified. She raised an arm and waved over to him. ”Mr. Pericles! If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what book would you pick? Think about it and get back to me!" She didn’t want to interrupt his current quest to give the Hufflepuff a dare, so she would allow him to get back to her with his answer.

She turned back to the Slytherin just in time to overhear his truth for Levi. She balked over at the redhead at first, unable to comprehend what had just happened. A good kisser? Why did that matter? Especially coming from Levi. "... Matt! W-Why would you ask him that?! I am standing right here."

If the sting of wax paper being wrested from bare shin’s grip repeatedly was not enough for the sadistic hunger of ruthless preteens to feast upon, there were various mental wounds accentuating it. Mostly, it was Percematt’s hand gripping the dagger. Long red marks on tender, languid skin would be peeled open, the bone shed as a spare set of rattles, infected by the pain of fluster. As if they were adding insult to injury, the locked lips between the pair of gingers went on for decades. Further enkindling the scorch were the giggles in the back of his mind, echoing against its chasmic and feral interior, and their ancestral, intimate familiarity would clink obnoxiously in his ears like tinnitus. As cordial as the sapphire core to the orange flame, yet it was that hellacious, basal blaze that seared the worst scar.

The young Gryffindor had been sure to mutter “Truth,” between lowering contortions as his leg ran smooth, in need of a full breath that dangled just out of reach, even if the spiteful dare had hardly been the blue root for the burns he was enduring with gritted teeth. The goblet would spit out a normal person who would ask him his wishes if he had a genie, and Levi would groan some sham sentiments about fulfilling lives for his loved ones and a healthy family, tugging at thin heartstrings. Safety would come, the clock would strike, and the entire crowd would be rushed away from one another in stream droplets. Dirt had gathered beneath his nails from where they clutched the dirt in search of stability, and the boy’s light palms retained a brownish tint from resting on the ground as his chest heaved up and down, lungs inflated and deflated with a certain dark shrivel to the latter.

Sure, he’d heard Winnie hail him with a forlorn emotional cast to her accented call as he stormed away to the safety of the Dragon Cabin, but she had this delicate tinge to her voice that could fade into the sound of the clouds coming and parting. Its waves easily drowned in the sun’s bright beams, and he would go untouched by desire, obligation. Percematt did not have that same virtue to his vocal cords, there was a harsh drawl, a melodramatic sigh to every open syllable word. Spoken with true purpose, the words would knock every part of his ear, leaving fractures in the cartilage, fresh piercings.

"I was Levi's first kiss," Someone, somewhere, shed a single tear. You just learned that a few minutes ago. “Me and Levi dated first year, he dumped me at the Blossom Ball.” What a surprise, the Lorax was spitting ardent lies as weaponry, straight from his arsenal stocked to the inaccessible heaven with fables. Instinct rattled to defend his honor, whatever vestiges left, tell the true story of the Owlery where it was solely Levi and the galaxy’s intertwined moon and stars bearing witness to reality: life and death in the wrong places. However, this instinct would soon dig a grave for the cadaver of a man who unsurprisingly sounded crazier than the one accusing sexualities and failed romances left and right. Any legend of couth would die with him.

"Had no idea you two were friends. Had no idea he was still jealous," Said like a real patient. It was a shame that the youth of their generation was born with such a psychedelic imagination, where hatred crosses with love in casual watery laps, made into a dreamt fantasy where the two bleed and leak together. Jealousy was about the last thing he felt; more as though the young brunet had been undermined. His hard work, his serenading Winnie in the Rehearsal Room with a song that made the heart and its valves dance and twirl, stolen by Percematt. Claimed. His credit. His trophy.

Winnie, of course, took not only the bait but swallowed the hook so it could abduct her heart from her chest and surrender it to Percematt, who would then (appropriately) dine on it. The sweet girl whispered to him, such a sugary manner Levi thought he could hear her and her nothings, but that only her spectral, disembodied affections coming to embrace him. He reached one hand to his shoulder, rubbing it gently, not bothering to defend himself for the time being. An emptiness, a leaden fatigue had filled his will since the shriek, and the silence was utilized for planning rather than collapsing further into the crevices of the vindictive Earth.

Levi watched as the couple went back and forth, and the doves flocked to the treeboy in a lonely frenzy, draping him in their coral and lavender ripped streamers, dropping a shimmering costume tiara and veil atop Winnie’s long copper hair. A piece of paper sprung from the goblet at the second it wove in the light breeze, jarring him and settling by his feet, with the letters obscured by grass and the foggy red haze that stayed behind his corneas. When it touched his fingers, a chill ran to his bones, and as it unraveled and revealed the words beneath the folds, the lion knew that was the frigid touch of divine intervention. Winnie Harper – Dare.

When his gaze glided skyward once more, Percematt was hovering in front of him sporting a ballsy grin that resulted in rolling hazel eyes and a huff of exasperated breath. Hit me with your best shot, he wanted to taunt, but he knew that the taller student would take that literally and bring a loaded glock from the band of his trousers. The girl whom it seemed to revolve around was behind him as his shadow, the twelve-year-old with fingerprints along her title and a surface the sunlight was lost in rather than reflected in. Her luster was dwindling the longer his paws lingered.

"So Levi Drakos, am I a good kisser?"

Hmm.

His girlfriend complained from over his shoulder, a wise protest as Percematt laid their “relationship” on the line to do little more than harass Levi, a mere pawn in a game of chess he didn’t want to play. So, he’d flip it. Change the rules. Grab the table and bash it into the ground, bludgeon and crack the debonair pieces, start anew with a board of checker pieces and the dealing of a poker hand. Who was this kid to decide the rules, just as he dangled the truth above the Gryffindor, the truth that damned them both to Hell? And none of his self-righteous thoughts did a damn thing to clear the miasma of hysteria and frustration at the ignorance of it all. At the death around the corner, and each remained frolicking through roses of their own creation, of Percemat’’s creation.

“Not as good as your girlfriend.” The boy bluffed, not meeting the eyes of his opponent yet with a smirk playing on his lips. Percematt wouldn’t know better; Winnie could deny any chemistry sizzling between them, but how reliable was her memory now? “Ask yourself, Winnie. Why would he ask me that? Winnie, I dare you,” He’d flash the slip of paper in her direction, as though asserting his dominance over the situation, “to go on a date with me tomorrow. A short one if you wish, even platonic. A walk, perhaps, with me, mister eyes of warm honey, spun like soft moss.”

That girl named Serena had completed her dare and Irina was very happy. It was nice to see someone else yelling that the drinks were poison, even if she did dare them to. In honesty, this might have marked the end of her revenge for the potions at the ball. She had told the campfire story and now had done this. It would just be being dramatic if she continued going with it. Now there were other things that she would be ready for revenge for. In example, too many of her fellow Koldovstoretz students were exploded with no one held accountable for it. She wouldn’t go after them herself but if they were to ever come across her again, Irina wouldn’t hesitate to take her revenge.

The dare she had to do though, was so weird that she almost puked on the guy (Levi). The tension created from it was so awkward that Irina took a few steps back. She didn’t want to be involved with them for longer than she had to. After moving back to goblet to enter her name again, she received a piece of paper that made her want to do a villain laugh. It said, Mathias Pride - Dare. He was the one who gave her the awful dare of liking the other guys face. It was time for Irina to have a little fun with her revenge.

She walked back over to the group (Matt, Winnie, and Levi) and stood a few feet away while she thought of a dare. Only one idea really came to mind and after listening to some of their conversation, Irina knew it was the right one. The conversation was about the three of them being like a love circle-ish yet the Winnie girl was now dating the Matt guy. Striding over to Mathias, she leaned in his ear and whispered her dare. “I got you so I dare you to make and sing a love song to the same guy I licked.”Now it was time to watch her payback take place and Irina was excited to watch it.

As if Mathias knew... music. Love songs at that. "What?" He did not know 'love songs' he knew... did he know music? Well, yes of course. The sort that involved a violin and sheet music, a darling sonata, he had endured a stirring aria. Nothing ever as pedestrian as a conventional 'love song.' He would give the girl a look, the sort where he wondered what flavor of common the girl must have been.

"Yeah," he could do one. He just did not care for things that made him feel. That could stir some sort of sentiment. He knew the mechanics. He was well-trained, like any pureblood would be. He knew the trill of an instrument. How to make a bow glide across strings in a way to make shivers trace the length of ones spines. How a delicate melody could conjure something deep inside, music had a fearsome power that only the musician wielded. He should be thankful that the girl had put him in a place of power but it was a power he had not mastered in terms of 'love.' Music had a sort of power that made him rarely a passive listener for it gave others a power that he would rather quash. Indeed, Mathias was not a 'music guy.'

A sense of panic would enter him, not because he had to sing in front of people. He knew how to sing, he was taught. Not 'love' songs, but rather how to use your voice as a tool. A tool like every part of his being. A tool that yearned for independence that he was taking one fragment at a time. His issue was in that he did not know a relevant song. For someone such as Mathias, there was a sense of enduring conceit that came from knowing more than everyone else. From being smarter, planning further ahead, always being in control. He disliked it when he was not in control, when he did not have the power and worst of all - when he did not know something that by all technicalities he should. He should know modern interpretations of 'music'. What the muggles listened to. What young wizards enjoyed. He internally cursed himself for what he lacked as he searched his memories for something, for a song that one could relate to 'love.' A concept he understood but never wished to endure.

"Would have preferred to sing to Winnie or you," he told the Koldovstoretz girl. He was buying himself time. He was thinking. The muggles often sung. He had to of heard a muggle song, besides those at the ball. He was erm...distracted that evening. The sounds played that night were atrocious, discordant and he mostly ignored the noise that grated on his mind while his peers gyrated to the primal rhythm. There was one song he recalled, he had heard it a few times. It always seemed to get a reaction when it was heard for whatever reason.

With a cough into the side of his had he would lower his voice and sing his anthem of love to Levi. "I got one for you Levi," he took a few steps closer to the boy. A serious look on his face as with a totally straight face Mathias would try to look down, yes down, into Levi's eyes with a smoldering intensity and start to sing...

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Did Mathias do the dance too? Well, let's say he tried. The moves were not that hard but the pelvis took a bit more from Elvis than Astley. Did he have a decent voice? Actually it was not terrible, he missed his calling - he could have been one of the most prolifically annoying singers of the modern era rather than an annoying wizard. When the song ended he would feel, yes Pride. He knew a 'love' song. A pretty good one in fact come to think of it. Presently his favorite (also the only) song he knew.

───There were no whispers of jealousy when the Russian girl leaned in to whisper something into Mathias’ ear. Whatever her intentions might have been, the mischievous nature was lost beneath the context of the night. Whatever odd behaviour would come next was in part because of a dare. Unless the girl simply enjoyed whispering things into random boy’s ears.

Matt said something about singing to the girl instead. Huh? Why? Then it clicked, what the dare was and how cruel it would seem on her end if she had actually overheard their conversation. It didn’t seem to bother Matt too much, though, because pretty soon the boy had broken out into song. A familiar one at that. Wasn’t this muggle meme? Was Matt a fan of the internet or just the song? Either way, if the intent had been to make her jealous, she was not jealous in the least. Instead, a smile would grace her features. She even clapped her hands after he had finished. The boy’s voice was lovely, but that didn’t surprise her. He had sung for her in the rehearsal room before. She could remember how fast her heart had pounded against her chest, the rhythmic beating almost matching the strum of... guitar strings? Hm... "You’re very talented, Mattie, but that doesn’t surprise me."

Levi... He was still standing there, a figurative spotlight casting a glow on his form. It seemed he had been selected as the nightly entertainment in some cruel twist of fate. He seemed to take the news with stride, or perhaps he was dissociating and had cast out all of Mathias’ accusations. Silence was often quoted as being golden, but Winnie found it to be terrifying. It was a necessary nothingness that seemed to both scream and whisper every unspoken word between the trio. The time between each word never seemed to decrease and left the Ravenclaw desperately grasping for some semblance or clue to decipher his thoughts, to peer into that clockwork mind of his and see what made him tick. After what felt like an eternity, the Gryffindor would finally speak.

"So Levi Drakos, am I a good kisser?" Matt had asked the boy, much to Winnie’s torment and horror.

“Not as good as your girlfriend.” Levi replied.

Blue eyes widened in complete shock, the girl’s mouth falling agape. It happened all at once; the heat rising in her cheeks as if scorched after spending too long beneath the ruthless August sun. The tips of her ears also stung and darkened. The stubborn strength she had possessed minutes earlier was nowhere to be found. ”I... I have never...!" Her hands would raise up from her sides, palms pressed outwards as if the Gryffindor had pulled some sort of weapon. Although his words alone seemed to do the trick. "I’ve only ever kissed Matt, h-here and in the rehearsal room..." His playful smirk would only serve to confuse her further, what sort of unseen confidence did this boy possess and why was it aimed in her direction? He did, however, pose a good question. Matt’s truth still didn’t make sense to her.

The cherry on top of everything-- her name written on a card. Her promise to complete a dare was in the hands of her boyfriend’s ex. There was plenty he could have done with it as well, things to mess with her, to harm Matt... Instead, the boy had asked for a date. A date? "... I have a boyfriend..." She gestured towards the Slytherin as if Levi had somehow forgotten his very existence. It was obvious the boy was planning... Something. Perhaps to pull at her heartstrings in an attempt to use her as a puppet to do his bidding. What did he want? To capture her and break them up, only to run after Matt? It was a trick, but... She would go. She also wanted to speak to the boy privately and clarify that he was no longer with Matt, that she had no plans on letting him go soon.

It was then that Levi would whisper a line to her that knocked the wind from her chest. It was one she had scribbled down in amongst the chaotic musings of her mind. "... How did you--..." She had assumed it was the start of prose for Matt, but... How could Levi have known that? She hadn’t fail to notice his eyes and the brilliant dance of hazel hues that made up their colour. It could not be a coincidence. Those words belonged to her. "A platonic short date." She agreed, her fingers nervously twirling the tip of her hair around her pointer finger.

Well, looks like Drakos had to die. He had lived a good, long twelve or so years. His brazen attempt to ask Winnie on a date, a date she had readily accepted stirred something unpleasant in the boy. A 'platonic short date' he mouthed as the gears started to turn. Fine, his mind snapped. Perhaps Mathias was playing too nice.

He would let her accept, a date sometime tomorrow with Levi Drakos. "Don't you feel that being asked on a date as part of a dare is something like being asked to dinner by Hannibal Lecter? ...predatory." He announced out loud with admittedly reasonable caution. Order her to stay, to deny him and he would simply assure that she would go, that she would enjoy the date 'fully' and that... well, he refused to think about it. Not that he should care. Not that he did care. No, he was totally not annoyed. He was totally not jealous that his house elf was going to run off on a date, an allegedly 'platonic' one with Drakos.

"Had no idea you two were a thing," he actually did not unless Drakos broke the cardinal rule of the game and told a lie. There was a difference between honor and dignity, only the later was lost on a game of truth and dare to reinforce ones honor, the bond of their word. He even sounded a bit glum. A shake of the head, a return of his previous confidence.

"Have a good time dear," a message intended for Winnie but he half expected Levi to snatch it up. "I will take another dare," he announced as he took a seat on his own away from the duo. He would have to call upon Levi's Amazonian bride to break things up he reasoned. There was a minor risk to Winnie of course, but perhaps he could focus her ire on the snake rather than the bird. There was an incentive in keeping her intact and with Mathias - less competition for Nikita. Both Matt and the girl would be otherwise occupied.

He could show up and just ruin it. He would risk looking obsessive, that would never do. He let out a huff in frustration. "Let's get on with it," he demanded.

Oddly enough, no-one seemed to react to Serena screaming that the drinks were poisoned which really said a lot about the wizarding world and how numb everyone must have gotten to strange events and happenings. Or maybe she was too obvious and everyone correctly assumed that it was just a dare.

Either way, Serena walked back over to the cauldron and put her name and the word ‘Dare’ inside once more. It then spit out another name. Unfolding the paper, she saw that it was the same girl who had just given her a dare. Well, that at least would make it easier to find her.

Serena quickly located Irina and walked over to her. “Hey, looks like I’ve got you this time, Irina!”

Serena thought for a moment about what she could suggest for the dare. It was difficult coming up with something on the spot. Maybe Serena should have thought of some before the game and made a list. Oh well, she would just have to keep that in mind for next time. For right now, she would just say the first thing that came into her head.

“I dare you to show off your best dance moves!”
