Huh. Well, this was an odd duel. Like a seesaw teetering between both ends, this match seemed to have highs and lows in store for all. With no obvious outcome in sight still, most would call to Lady Luck, but not Phaedra. She'd never believed much in luck. Ravenclaw had gained the upper hand through a skillful play for once and it needed to stay that way. These next moments were crucial.

This particular duel was one of the most difficult that Cade had ever faced. Absolutely everything he tried seemed to be going wrong, and in front of the entire school no less. Cade furiously shook his head as yet again his spell backfired towards him. What was going on? Did he need to get his wand checked? Or was he just a terrible wizard? These final moments would tell. He didn't want Phaedra to have all the fun. He was relieved to see that Logan had fallen. They may yet have a chance of victory. It was just a matter of playing the right cards.

Logan had thought that her and Lucia were doing so well. In general, she had thought she was doing so well, so it was a surprise to the Hufflepuff when her own spell failed. The brunette groaned in pain as the spell hit her, unaware of the other spells aimed at her. Before she was even able to attempt to dodge, everything went black. Hopefully Lucia would be able to pull off a miracle.

ROUND EIGHT

Following the overall chaos and confusion of the previous rounds, this one was... underwhelming. Aside from both active spellcasters Phaedra and Lucia dodging absolutely nothing at all at the same time, the only exciting thing that happened was Cade swatting his burning clothes to stop the flames.

"Alright, we want to see actual dueling here. Get on with it!" Dmitri would enunciate blandly.

Both teams have been given many opportunities to end the duel in their favor but none of them seemed to be keen on ending the fight yet.

It was awkwardly silent in the hall as Cade patted out the flames upon his school robes. Absolutely wonderful, he would have to pay a visit to Madame Malkins in Diagon Alley. When the last of the flames were subdued, Cade stood tensely. He felt particularly vulnerable at the moment. He could feel he was very close to passing out. Hopefully, the first year could hold on a little longer. Cade huffed completely unamused at Dimitri's impatience. He wanted the duel to be over too at this point. But there would be no forfeit from him. And he knew Phaedra would think the same. No matter how long it takes, he would fight. It was time for the eagles to hunt the badger.

With Logan off the board, Lucia was sure that she was about to be hit by multiple spells at once. She tensed, ready for the onslaught, but (surprisingly) nothing happened. Phaedra also stayed still, watching Lucia as though expecting her to shoot, and Cade - was he trying to put himself out with his hands? Ouch, that must hurt. Why hadn't he just used the Extinguishing charm? That would have been easier. The dry words of the referee didn't make Lucia feel any better about Logan not being here. Couldn't he see that she was trying to come out of this without a trip to the hospital wing?

Phaedra would have found the current situation funny had she not felt like she was going to keel over any second now. There were some upsides, though: despite the beating they'd received so far, they were still standing at a numbers advantage. And it did do her little heart proud to know that she'd survived several rounds of double-teaming, she supposed. Dmitri had a point and Phaedra was finding she appreciated his no-nonsense attitude. Enough dillydallying. Time to end this.

ROUND NINE

"Oh goodness!" Dmitri exclaimed, almost too gleefully, as not a few moments into the round, Phaedra Stavrou dropped to the ground unconscious—but not before answering back (too late) with a successfully cast Flipendo, hitting Lucia in the shoulder which would probably be black-and-blue in just a while.

The Slytherin Dueling Captain cast a quick Extinguo over the older Ravenclaw's slowly-smoldering clothes. "I think she's had quite enough. Medics!"

It must be hard being taken down by a second-year, but such is the life of a duelist. He was sure these duelists already prepared for all outcomes; win or lose.

Dmitri can't relate.

Now, Cade Darkbound (who, unsurprisingly, failed in hitting anything, once more) and Lucia Fox both stand face-to-face, with a victory at stake.

It seemed more and more that the next round would be the one to end it all.

The Incendio had been a last-ditch attempt to get Lucia out of this mess, and - somehow - it hit. And Phaedra crumpled to the floor, on fire (oh mother of Merlin, she's on fire), aiming her wand at Lucia. A jet of light spun towards her from Cade's direction and she leaped out of the way, just moments before she was hit by Phaedra's spell. "Ouch!" Her shoulder ached, but it was probably barely anything compared to what Phaedra had been feeling before she'd blacked out. Lucia had never been a fan of Incendio since she'd used it on Rose Moon - ugh - in her first duel, but it had been her only thought. And it had worked. Merlin's beard, it had worked. Lucia faced Cade with a new strength running through her bones. Finally, the odds were just about in Hufflepuff's favour.
