2021, Stage 3 Group D: Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff Finished

so sorry about how short this is, i've been pretty busy the past few days

The smoke appeared to be clearing, just a little. Okay, that was good. What was even better was when Lucia realised that her Flippendo had hitten Cade perfectly - although perhaps she wouldn't have felt so good about the achievement if she'd realised that Cade wasn't in much of a position to be dodging attacks at the moment.

Her antagonizing was meant to be her idea of playful, but it still didn’t surprise her any when they’d switched tactics away from her. Cade fell to the platform, his sinuses getting the better of him, and Phaedra could only keep an eye out for herself. One spell flew her way and she dodged it without trouble, the smokescreen helping out for once its entire duration. She could only hope Cade would recover and fast, because little by little, the protective smoke was thinning.

Logan didn't mind that that her spell didn't hit Phaedra. She was just happy that Lucia had managed to get her spell to hit the younger Ravenclaw. The girl glanced over at Lucia with a questioning look on her face when no spells were aimed at the two of them. She knew the Ravenclaw were not giving up, she didn't think that was something they would do, but she wasn't fully sure what was going on.

Cade's troubles were only stacking. It was bad enough that he didn't have any energy to throw one more spell this round, but lying prone, completely spent with the added fact that a well-aimed flippendo arched over to him was just brutal. Cade felt terrible. The first year could barely see and he felt so weakened, he almost wanted to give up. He was disassociating, watching the scene play out before him. The Ravenclaws were struggling, but they needed to rise. With the effort of what felt like ten men, Cade slowly got to his feet, his wand arm barely lifting up. He wanted to fight... he needed to fight.

ROUND SIX

As the round progressed, it became more and more apparent that Ravenclaw was in a precarious position. Cade Darkbound, in probably the best scenario for him to cast a spell in a long while since the duel started, tried and failed once more. Failed badly, too, reminiscent of his opening spell a few rounds back. What was supposed to be a commendable Incendio targeting Logan zoomed right back on its caster, bombarding the unfortunate boy with a beam of flames. Phaedra, for the most part, didn't suffer the same failure as her teammate. Unfortunately for her, her attempted Flipendo didn't quite meet its mark.

Hufflepuff, however, was doing quite splendidly. In a complete mirror of their opponents' actions, theirs were a tad bit more successful. Both Lucia and Logan managed to hit their respective targets, dealing a considerable amount of damage. Logan's spell was especially successful, as his Incendio caught an already-smoldering Cade, enhancing the fire he put on himself and igniting most of the boy's clothes.

Was it looking bad for the Ravenclaws? Yes, but they were still standing. It isn't over 'til the fat lady sings, as they say, and considering they were too far away from the Gryffindor common room painting, well.

It just means they will just have to keep on fighting.

Silence was accompanied with a roll of her eyes. It only made focusing on the girls even more difficult; the onslaught she'd taken doubling her vision. Try as she might to remain supportive, Phaedra deduced then that her partner couldn't really... hold his own yet, and her shoulders could only carry for so long. Missing was one thing. Two backfires were absolutely unacceptable. Tired and very much over it, she brought up her wand once more. Better go out blazing, then.

Logan smiled as she watched her spell successfully hit Cade. The girl had a good feeling that they may win this round, but she couldn't underestimate the Ravenclaw duo as anything could happen. Logan gave Lucia a smile on response to the one sent her way and nodded in a way of saying good job. The Hufflepuff girl wasn't too worried, and hoped the rest of the round went well for both teams, she also hoped there would be no hard feelings on either side for whoever ended up winning.

There was nothing more mortifying than a spell backfiring. But twice in one duel was excruciatingly painful both literally and figuratively. The poor first year couldn't get a break! One minute he was fine and the next he felt as though fate was against him. The look of absolute trepedation crossed his features as soon as flames smothered his already feeble vision. He could feel waves of shame sink into his very bones as everyone eyes fell across. This was not at all going smoothly.

Hah. And there we go. There we have the turning of the tables Dmitri was certain was coming. Phaedra was able to successfully hit both of her opponents with a respectable Flipendo (her ally still in the process of becoming useful, tick tock). He couldn't suppress a light cackle at the way Logan not only sustained a knockback jinx in the solar plexus but also a received small shockwave from his own failure of a spell. This seemed to be a duel of fatally failed spells and Dmitri was definitely cozy in the front row seats.

No place he'd rather be, honestly.

Flapping a hand somewhere in the direction of the medical team, the fourth year called out, "A little pause to the proceedings. Let's get this unconscious body out of the way first."

After a brief moment involving stretchers and some worried looks, Dmitri called for a resumption of the duel.
