Beautiful, unforgettable, incredible...all words she'd heard time and time again. Arjan had hit on her before, but what she had brushed off as a joke back then was clearly something real to him.

In truth, she didn't know how to feel about it. Was she supposed to like him back? Arjan had never reeled her in like a certain someone else—no one else since had elicited those feelings—but he certainly didn't send her running in the opposite direction either. From what little she knew of marriage and courtship in pure-blood circles, mere tolerance was all a pair really needed, right?

They went far back too, which was a plus, or perhaps not depending on who you asked. Knowing someone since childhood made picturing a relationship exceedingly awkward for most people. She'd felt that way about him too; unbeknownst to her the fault of her undiscovered asexuality. But she was growing older now. Shouldn't she be excited for these things? What could go wrong?

Unsure as she felt, Phaedra didn't want any bad blood brewing between their families if it had somehow gotten back that she was rejecting invitations for little to no reason. Additionally, she was considering attending the Ball anyway. And so, she got to work writing a response, leaving out the details that Arjan had been the only one to ask her this time. He didn't need to know that.

I suppose you should know how coincidentally timed your letter was. I was having trouble deciding on whether to attend, but you have given me the peace of mind that I'll be in good hands. Hogwarts Balls never go too well, you see. I guess you could say it's tradition not to.

I will go with you. Admittedly, it has been over a year since joining anyone at a school event, so please accept this preemptive apology for having to witness my rusty dancing. Nevertheless, I'm sure we'll have a fine evening. Thank you for the corsage. It is lovely.

I am truly honoured you have chosen me and am most glad to hear that I was able to clarify things for you. I'm sure we will have a great time. Unfortunately, I have not fully grasped my way around Hogwarts nor figured out where your dorms are, specifically. However, I will wait for you by the castle doors as I believe the ball is outside on the grounds and would happily accompany you from there.

I am unsure of what has happened in the past but you'll be safe with me, that much I can guarantee. I'm always armed. I have heard that I am pretty good at leading too, so please do not worry.
