Seeking a Friend OPEN Closed

Dear Hello Dear Winnie Harper,

Hello. I am doing fine. How about you? It’s my first time sending a letter to someone I have never talked to. sorry if you find this letter boring I got this letter on the grounds, it fell on my head I picked it up from the ground. It seems like you are in the First year, so there is a chance that we both would have already met, maybe in some classes. But it’s okay even if we have not. I am happy to make a friend through owls.

Not everyone is lucky, happy to know that she had fun writing letters but wow...your work did not go unnoticed. I know that your letter has reached someone but I don’t you whether that person (me) is the right person.

Ok, now it’s time for me to introduce myself. I am Vivian Fletcher, the first year Hufflepuff. Just like you, my mother is a muggle born and my father was a wizard. My father passed away I have never seen him, my mother is a doctor. I was grown up knowing nothing about magic, I didn’t even know that magic exists before getting my Hogwarts letter.

Questions...I too had and still have a lot of questions in my mind and don’t know who would answer all those questions and clear all my doubts.

It does not frustrate me but just confuses me sometimes. I am not an interesting person and all. I spend most of my time studying and doing homework. I like to paint. I like to get to know people, I like to talk but shy. I don’t know what else to write here.

Winnie was eating breakfast at the Ravenclaw table when a large barn owl suddenly swooped in and almost dropped a letter into her bowl of cereal. She gasped and quickly snatched it up, a smile on her face when she realized her efforts were not in vain. After reading the letter, she sat in the Ravenclaw dormitory and wrote a response to her new friend.

Dear Vivian,

Thank you so much for writing me back! I was certain that my letter would somehow get lost, but then again, I shouldn't doubt owls. They are intelligent and not quite as unpredictable as the ocean.

You're a first year student as well? That's wonderful. Hufflepuff seems like such a nice house, I've heard the common room is very cozy, warm, and filled with plants. I wish I could see it! I was originally hoping I would be sorted there, but my curious nature ended me up in Ravenclaw. Don't get me wrong; I love my house! I just wish there was more plant life.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father. Your mother never knew he was a wizard? What was your reaction when you found out about magic? When my mum's parents found out dad and I are wizards, they almost fainted. My dad had to preform a few spells before my grandad would even believe us! I'm not sure why mum never told them sooner.

I don't find you boring at all! We seem a lot alike. If you have any questions, we can find the answers together. I also love to paint! What kind of materials do you use? I favor watercolours because I love the finished results. Perhaps we can paint together by the lake sometime? Don't worry about being shy; I'm a bit shy too! After finishing the letter and tucking it away into an envelope, Winnie practically skipped all the way to the owlery. She selected the same snowy owl as last time, affectionately stroking it's feathers with her index and middle finger. "Here you are. You're my good luck charm now." She said with a smile as she handed over the letter. "Thank you."

Vivian was expecting a letter from Winnie and went to the grounds the next day to check whether the letter has arrived. She waited there sometime for the owl to arrive but she was disappointed. She decided to leave but suddenly a letter tapped her head and fell which made her smile brightly. She took the letter to her dormitory. After reading it, she started writing the response letter with the smile

Dear Winnie,

I am so happy that you wrote me back. Actually, I expected a letter from you and was quite sure that I’ll get a reply from you. Owls... just like you said, they are great and I always wanted to have one... maybe I’ll buy one in future.

Yes, Hufflepuff common room is one of the most comfortable places I have ever seen. I just love that place but not more than my dormitory, I spend most of my time there. When I was getting sorted, I only know the names of houses and nothing more than that. Thinking of that now, I would have been sorted into Ravenclaw if not Hufflepuff. Doesn’t Ravenclaw common room have plants? There must be something that you love about Ravenclaw common room, what is that?

My mother knows that my father was a wizard but we have never talked about him. So only when I got the letter from Hogwarts, she told me about that. I thought my mum was pranking me and was slightly irritated. But the look on her face said that she was not playing. Then I was standing like a statue with my mouth wide open in shock. Seems like your father loved living a muggle life. In the future, which one would you choose? Muggle life or wizarding life.

I am so glad that I didn’t bore you. And happy to hear that. Sure, let’s find the answers together but currently, no question about other kinds of stuff is there in my mind. I am so happy that I got a new friend and that too through owls... I didn’t expect this. Wow... I use watercolours too. But I always wanted to try doing oil paintings. Paint with you...Sure, I would love to do that. We should definitely do that someday. I am happy as you are. I would love to send more letters in future as well.

After writing the letter, Vivian walked to the owlery and chose a random school owl to deliver the letter and walked back to her dormitory.

Winnie was delighted when she received a reply so quickly from Vivian. She ran straight to the Ravenclaw dorm room to reply to her letter.

Dear Vivian,

The Ravenclaw common room is very airy and spacious. It's not traditionally cozy, but it does have some nice features. For example, the roof has blue silks hanging from it that reflects the starlight and makes it looks like the roof is made up of dancing stars. One of my favourite things about it is the personal library. I have never had to go without reading material. So I suppose the presence of books evens out with the lack of plants.

Oh wow, I would be upset if my Mum had done that, but I guess she must have had her reasons! As much as I love my muggle family, I would never want to go without magic after having it in my life. I would feel like part of me was missing if I couldn't use magic. I can never understand why my father would decide against it.

What kind of things do you like to paint? I mostly paint humans and animals, but I've been trying to paint more landscapes lately. I've never used oil paints before, they seem difficult!

I really love the idea of a personal library, it is cool. And that blue silk and stars...wow. So have you prepared for the blossom ball? It is on tomorrow.

I was not mad at my mum, she gets hallucinations whenever she starts to talk about him so I have never asked about him to her after knowing this and actually had no one to talk to about my dad. I would have been able to live without magic before knowing about magic and the wizarding world but not now. I can’t live without magic after knowing all this. Maybe your father is more comfortable living a muggle life than a wizard life.

I like to paint sceneries and just anything that comes to my mind. I just leave it to my imagination. I want to see your works someday. Yeah, I think the same and that is why I have still not tried them but someday I want to paint with oil paints.

I do enjoy the library and looking up at the stars. I grew up in the country side so we always had to best starry views. My mother kept a map of the stars, it seems even Muggles would gaze up at them in awe. I am attending the ball! I don't have a date but I'm fine with it. My mum sent me a dress to wear, it's one of her own that she modified, so I have to be careful with it. Are you attending? What are you wearing?

Your Mom has visions? I understand. I suppose even if I were mad I would not stay made for long. I guess he is more comfortable, I just wish I had more wizardry influence on my younger years, maybe I would have been better with my studies.

Oh wow, you can paint without reference? I've always been envious of anyone who can do that. I always need a reference, whether it be a model or a photograph.
