2021, Stage 3 Group D: Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff Finished

Cade was in very bad condition. Not only were these bubbles completely bothering him, but his head pounded with fever. With a great sneeze, a large dribble of snot ran down his sickly pale face. On top of that, it seemed Phaedra was barely hanging on, managing to cast fog between the two parties just as both Lucia and Logan overwhelmed her. The first year felt relieved that he hadn't been hit this round, but didn't see how he could manage to turn the tables over onto the badgers. They were fine for now, they just had to keep holding on.

ROUND FOUR

Whichever way anyone would see it, Ravenclaw did seem to be undergoing a case of misfortune in this duel. Cade—runny-nosed, weakening, bombarded by both persistent bubbles and debilitating smoke—tried his very best to cast at his opponents, but his body betrayed him. His wayward Incendio zipped so far away from its intended target, it wasn't even funny. Then, not even a few seconds later, the boy would seem to drop to his knees, unable to stave away the fatigue his curse-induced ailment caused. Phaedra, for the most part, tried to heal both herself and her ally with a Reparifors, but must've forgotten the function of the spell as it had no effect whatsoever on her temporarily-out-of-commission ally.

The Hufflepuffs, on the other hand, were on a roll. Sure, Lucia missed her spell this time, but Logan's burning beam hit Phaedra squarely in the chest just a few moments after getting a respite from her injuries via the healing spell.

Tides were turning, it seems, and Dmitri was here for all of it.

Logan mentally cheered as she saw the spark of her spell hit her intended target through the smoke around them. She noticed that a spell had gone flying passed her, but missed by a long shot. The Hufflepuff was happy that at the moment everything was going okay, if you ignored the smoke around them. The girl attempted to look at her partner through the smoke, although that was a bust. The girl just needed to focus on what was going on around her, because anything could happen at this point.

The first year Ravenclaw felt absolutely bereft of strength. At the start of the duel, he felt confident, but now things were looking really grim. And as Cade fell to the floor thoroughly weakened, cold sweat clung to his skin as he wearily looked about the platform. He couldn't see anything but the bouncing bubbles around him. How he hoped Phaedra was still conscious. He sneezed and wiped his dripping nose, shuddering down to his core. He needed to get back up, he needed to go on. This was embarrassing!

This entire match so far could boil down to three words—plan failed successfully. Her intention of Reparifors was to ease some of Cade's troubles, but the poor boy fell to his knees right before her spell connected. Unfortunate; it was so beautifully cast too. For all the practice they'd done in building resistance to the curse, perhaps better healing altogether needed to be their next priority.

“Huh. Nice shot.” Phaedra was starting to see stars now and the smoke did little to ease her disorientated sway. Clutching the ache in her shoulders, she steadied herself with a grimace. She knew this was basically a two versus one with their total ignoring of Cade, but such tactics were well within the parameters of duelling etiquette. Cheeky, but she couldn't fault them for it lest she out herself a major hypocrite. “I understand I must be terribly frightening for you both, but I believe there's someone else you're forgetting.”

Regardless of the outcome, this was already a more balanced duel than her previous two. It did something serious for Phaedra's self-importance to battle it out against two competent duellists who knew deep down that she was the Big Bad on the piste, even if it ultimately meant she was first to fall. It always helped to look on the brighter side of things. She raised her wand. “Though if you insist on flattering me, I better wake up to flowers. The expensive kinds.”

ROUND FIVE

It seems like the lone fourth-year has caught on that she was being double-teamed, attempting to dodge all incoming attacks by weaving gracefully through the arena. The effort was mildly successful, as Logan's Flipendo did not even come close to harming a single hair on Phaedra's head. What she might have not anticipated, however, was her opponents switching tactics at that exact point in time, which was exactly what happened.

It appeared the attack was only made to be a distraction so Lucia—the only remaining duelist unscathed in the midst of battle—can let off another Flipendo towards the helpless Cade Darkbound, effectively leading the older student away from protecting her incapacitated teammate. The spell hit the boy's currently-prone body, just another slight on top of his existing problems.

The fight was far from over, though. The outcome was still up in the air. However much luck might be on Hufflepuff's side, it will still need to hold up until the end of the entire duel.

Would it? Only time will tell.
