Well, that depends on the situation you want to play out. For a bit of a free outdoor atmosphere the courtyard or the lake might be good, if you want an in-class thread (that would of course only work with other first years) the different classrooms are good (just remember not to godmod the professors- they are played by other people), or if you want a more relaxed atmosphere the great hall or the common room might be good. A study thread can also be nice in the library or study rooms

I mean, there isn't really any best place or worst place from an out of character perspective, it depends on your character and their preferences for places to be
