2021, Stage 3 Group D: Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff Finished

ROUND TWO

Dmitri couldn't help but be slightly taken aback at how well the lower years were holding their own against the considerably more experienced Ravenclaws—though it seemed that the Ravenclaws were more affected by their own blunders rather than their opponents' attempts at attacking them.

Cade missed his attack again, though this time, it did not backfire in his face. Bummer.

The attempted Tarantallegra whizzed by Logan, dissipating in the air behind him as he dodged nimbly. Phaedra, who appeared to have been targeting both Logan and her ally's bubbles with a Flipendo only succeeded in hitting one of them—the target being the poor Hufflepuff girl who did not manage to step aside on time. However, she seemed to be able to brush it off considerably, though it had whittled her energy down quite a bit.

Lucia traded blows by hitting Phaedra square in the chest with a Tickling Charm, forcibly trying to elicit a chuckle from the otherwise serious fourth year.

"A commendable round for everyone. But the duel does not end here. Continue." Dmitri would enunciate, nodding at each of the duelists in turn to signal the next round.

One half of Phaedra's spell fizzled out before it could reach Cade. She sent her wand a look of abject horror, utterly betrayed by its sudden and uncharacteristic flakiness when she needed it most. On the bright side, it wasn't a complete backfire, and the other flash of blue flew towards Logan unhindered. There was nothing more satisfying than countering an active dodger.

Likewise, Lucia's aim was true too. Her tickling charm connected with Phaedra's chest. It took everything in her not to sink to her knees, her hearty chortle emitting clearly across the piste. She knew it was a silly assumption, but she couldn't help but take the Hufflepuff's choice a bit personally, almost as if they were all trying to imply something. She wasn't totally humourless!

Eyes narrowed at Lucia, who she decidedly identified as the bigger threat, Phaedra straightened herself and spared a moment to check on her teammate. “So I lied, but we're okay,” she huffed to Cade after a pained inhale, annoyance rising at the back of her throat like bile. Great Ravenclaw, thwarted by bubbles of all things. “Just keep an eye out and stick with me.”

So the bubbles had been an obvious mistake. They proved difficult to maneuver around and even as Cade managed to cast the dancing feet spell with a near-perfect aim, Logan managed to dodge just in time. Cade would furrow his brows before a nasty sneeze sprouted from his lungs. If anything the curse had become worse. Cade groaned, not at all pleased with their conditions. He turned to see Phaedra laughing hysterically and wondered what on earth there was to laugh about until he understood that Lucia had hit her with a spell of giggles. Wiping furiously at his nose, Cade would nod his appreciation towards Phaedra. She had attempted to free him from the ever-annoying bubbles. "I don't feel okay, but I reckon we can still manage."

ROUND THREE

Once the round started, anybody looking would just see Dmitri's forehead scrunched up in apparent shock and confusion at how everything is turning out.

One, it seemed the chuckling fourth year went ahead and pushed through her bouts of laughter to cast an impressive Fumos which, as it looked, didn't help them that much. On the contrary, it made the already badly-snotting Cade Darkbound even more disoriented; probably the reason why the boy danced in place in anticipation of an attack that wasn't coming. And two, both Hufflepuffs dared to aim at their lone fourth-year opponent—and hit! Poor Phaedra Stavrou would be knocked a few steps backward before being lambasted in a spray of flames erupting from Logan Baird's wand.

Was it a case of absolutely good luck for Hufflepuff and bad luck for Ravenclaw? Or was it really the underdogs pushing through against all odds? Because however it might turn out in the end, things did seem to be going in either way for both teams.

Logan glanced over at Lucia quickly for slight reassurance before she cast a spell. She didn't have much time though, because before she was even able to do anything, the area around them began to fill with spoke. The brunette cough and turned her head away slightly before quickly casting the spell at Phaedra. "Incendio!" she called out as she heard Lucia send out a different spell. Luck must have been on their side, as both spells had managed to hit. Now they just had to keep pushing through while not choking on the smoke around them.

“Fumos!” As expertly cast as the smokescreen was, it would’ve been most beneficial to do so a second earlier. Both Hufflepuffs gunned it for her; the biggest threat—reminiscent of the very treatment she endured her first duel. The Flipendo connecting with her shoulder elicited a sudden grunt, and the radiating heat of Logan’s flame joined it at her leg. Luckily, it fizzled out before growing and she could shake the pangs away for now. Pretty certain of their tactics by now, Phaedra squinted through the heavy fog, prepared for anything else flying her way.
