The girl that Jess had recognized earlier from the castle, the blonde one, seemed to agree with Jess that it was strange for their group to have two more people than needed for a date, and the Hufflepuff smiled at her enthusiasm about candy. She seemed really hyper, but that should only make her more fun to hang out with. As much as Jess enjoyed the use of the jellybeans as a maraca, though, the girl's response hadn't answered her question, and neither did the boy's complete ignorance of her words. He quickly started cleaning himself up, too, after Jess came, which confused the girl. She appreciated his effort to look nicer, but why did he only do it when she came, and not before? Maybe he liked her?

All thoughts of possible crushes, however, were forced out of Jess's mind as Elisabeth responded and the girl turned to look at her fellow Hufflepuff. "Yeah, I guess..." said Jess skeptically. "But isn't Valentine's Day supposed to be centered around like... romantic love? Plus, the sign-up form had a section to write in your crush if you had one, I think, so shouldn't that mean that we'd be paired with whoever's name we put?" As she responded, Jess saw Elisabeth blush and look down, filling the young girl's heart with guilt. "I mean, your idea makes sense too!"

Hopefully, Elisabeth's next invitation to Jess was a sign that the girl's skepticism had been forgiven, and Jess tuned back into the conversation of her other two group members, which she had missed thus far as she spoke to the one girl out of all of them that she knew. After a bit of time spent looking at the sky, admiring the beauty of the stars yet unable to connect them into any sorts of patterns, Jess glanced back at Elisabeth. "Yeah, me neither. The stars here are really pretty, though!"

As the blonde girl tuned into the conversation of love once more, Jess grinned slightly to herself. She supposed it was a bit of a relief, really, not to be expected to do anything all too romantic this evening, though the realization that she wouldn't come out of this event with a new prospective boyfriend did also hurt a bit. Oh well. She was only eleven anyways, she'd have plenty of time for crushes and Valentine's Day events later. "Oh, you do duelling? That's so cool!"

The girl proceeded to draw something out on a wrapper and hold it up to the sky, causing Jess to scooch a bit closer to her to see what she was pointing out. "Yeah, I think I see it now!" Realizing she still didn't know the names of any of her group members other than Elisabeth, Jess leaned back on her hands, sitting crisscross-applesauce, and looked around. "You guys might have already said it before I came, but what are all your names? And what houses are you in? I'm Jess, and I'm a first year Hufflepuff."

Jacob once again laughed loudly at Callie's cooperative words, as he felt like the accomplice of a supervillain. In fact, the only difference between them and supervillains in movies was that they were never going to get their ass beaten by a superhero.

"You only say you think I need to reassess my idea of wisdom because you're not wise enough to understand how incredibly wise I am... but don't you worry, you'll get to my level eventually." Jacob told Callie in a super serious tone. It was clear afterall that he was the sensei and she was the student.
Only after saying that Jacob realised that he didn't mean to talk out loud. In fact, he was sure he didn't... either Callie had access to the mind reading spell or Jacob was so impressively distracted that he couldn't keep his thoughts to himself.
It was at this point that the boy realised that his thoughts about the pairings had somehow come out as well... how embarassing! He just cleaned his chocolate from his mouth and kept his head down in embarassment for a dozen seconds at least, not knowing what to say in his defense. However, Callie had called the boy detective Sherlock Jacob (surely not ironically), and that thought reassured and flattered him, covering some of the embarassment.

"I totally agree with you", Jacob invaded the conversation, talking to Jess. "But I think Elisabeth's idea obviously makes zero sense", he said with a slight look of superiority, completely missing the fact that Elisabeth was looking down and blushing. "There are other festivities about other kinds of love, but Valentine's day is about romantic love... not that I'm interested in that creepy stuff. Oh, and sweets, of course!".

The boy went on to look a the start, getting a bit closer to Callie to try and visualize the constellation she just drew and trying to spot it in the night sky: "Yes, I see it too!" he said. Actually, he couldn't see it... but hey, he had to give a good impression... afterall, he was the wisest of the group.

Jess' question was very much welcomed: "My name is Jacob, nice to meet you" he said, with a broad smile. "My parents expected me to be a Hufflepuff, but it turned out that I'm too clever not to be in Ravenclaw. I'm a first year but I'm somewhat of a prodigy, you know..."
